This was nostalgia for me. I used to go to the hair salon every two weeks growing up and all of the women in the salon would get this hairstyle. The rollers and all took me back. So glad styles like these are coming back as I am in my adult years now. Thank you
Tip for you guys, if you want more volume at the root, we do something called on base, which is where you hold the hair straight up when rolling. And off base is what she did at the front and when you hold it slightly down, so it’s more curly at the mids and ends and less volume at the roots. The former helps if you have thin hair.
In the 1980s, when I was at HBCU and we did a “wet set” ourselves or had it done at the salon, these hair rollers were called “magnetic” hair rollers, at the time, due to how the wet hair, also spayed with setting lotion/solution “stuck” to the rollers. However, when we were wet-setting our hair, we had a relaxer, at the time.
@ Wet hair sticks to the surface. Also, some of them don’t have a “snap on cover.” Some have to be secured with pins, but still look the same, still wet hair sticks to them, even with out the snap on thing. All “magnetic” hair rollers.
Bring back so many childhood memories. We had the pink ones. Then when my hair grew out more. My mom just got all colors. Then we popped on a classy scarf. Pink lotion and setting lotion and pressing comb was a staple in black househols. Dont forget the Blue Magic hair grease❤❤❤❤
Great video and tips. You look beautiful. The curls are fire 🔥 Tip: you could store the snap inside the roller to help it have a tight grip on your hair when you use it.
I used these plastic rollers in the 1970's. Loved the curls they made but they were terrible to sleep in. I can still in my mind feel the pain and headache sleeping in those things.
This took me back to the 90's ..I remember how beauticians would instead prefer the roller pins to keep the rollers in place, but I like this method over a period of time when I was able to style my own hair. Thanks for creating this video content ❤
Beautiful video and results. You took me back to my teenage years. A little tip for you, place the covers inside the rollers for a tighter grip next time.💛💛💛💛💛🍒🍒
Yes. We had to have those papers. Lol My teacher said that it gives you a smoother look. I took Cosmetology all 4 years in high School. This roller style was the way we were taught to do a roller set.
I do, this video is for a perm rod set but I do the same nightly routine: ua-cam.com/video/kYsNt7N3i9M/v-deo.htmlsi=fKQVfQZhvrYtfxYw I just wear a bonnet at night, the curls last about 5-6 days depending on you active level.
Girl where you been back in the day that’s all we used was rollers and my hair was down to my waist and when I tell you, the curls were tight, they were tight and right and you look absolutely beautiful👍
Hello 🤗, can you please share how you survive humidity with this hairstyle. It comes out beautifully but the humidity will reverse everything- what products do you use for humidity control and how do you manage? Thank you ☺️
Super cute! And your hair is growing beautifully. I’ve been enjoying the step by step’s my curls always look like rev. Al Sharpton! 😢 sorry rev. I’m going to keep trying until I nail it!
I'm so glad I bought the same rollers. I watched another video, and my wet set came out 💣. Only problem I had was a few of my rollers had my hair tangled. I blowed dried 30 minutes and let the other 30 minutes air-dried. My curls were shiny! My new way of doing my hair so I'm not flat-ironing as much. This time, when I do it, I will comb out my curls and wrap it.
Aleia I love it. It came out beautiful. Thank you for the process I was wondering why my curls were all over the place. Looking forward to setting some this week. ❤
I love a good roller set. Classic and never went out of style for me. I have rollers in right now. I will try rolling sides up next time. Thanks. I look forward to checkin out some of your other videos.
So beautiful! 😍🤩🥰🔥 I tried to do a roller set one day on wet hair, but it didn’t turn out the way I wanted. I’ll try it on blowdried hair next time with a mousse like you have done. Thanks for sharing! 😊💯
Hello Aleia, I was inspired by your video to roller set my hair. I don't have a hooded hair dryer, so I used my blow dryer to get a head start on air drying overnight. Can you tell me where you purchased your satin bonnet, please?
Your hair and personality is beautiful I’m old my hair not long as it use to be and getting thin in top but you my dear is lit that is beautiful TYFS and be BLESSED 🤩
You have inspired me to roller set my natural hair! I haven't had a roller set since I had perm in high school! Question, how do you maintain it when you are sleeping?
Hi love I used the RevAir to blow out my hair before starting, it has a zero heat setting that works great! Here is my discount code if you want to give it a try AsAlwaysAleia7
Thank you for the video. Appreciate this and love how roller sets done at home never go out of style. Plus magnetic Roller are so much easier. Would this work on non relaxed hair?
I don't have this hair texture but this is very helpful and I love this tutorial. I recently got some magnetic rollers and I always struggle with getting them to set properly, will defiantly be trying these tips
Hi. So should you blow dry the hair 1st AND THEN wet it with the styling mousse? I assume the result will be different than rolling with towel dried hair w/mousse before rolling. Will the hair NOT turn out as straight IF one does not blow dry 1st? Genuinely curious---don't know🤔🤔🤔 TY in advance if you respond. 🙂
@@Amywaterbeeoo I see. Thanks because I’m going to be trying this within the next week or two.. trying to wear my natural hair out more often instead of braids… and since it’s cold now , timing is good
@@SHaqq-wv9hnIt takes longer to dry if you style your hair while it’s wet with mousse. That’s the only difference, its a better method if you don’t have an overhead dryer

Amazing tip!
I used these plastic rollers in the 1970's. Loved the curls they made but they were terrible to sleep in. I can still in my mind feel the pain and headache sleeping in those things.
Yep. Then we changed to sponge rollers. Better to sleep in.
We wore these in the 60’s lol every night to bed in high school. With Dippity do hair gel
Whew! How long would it take to put in each night?

I am glad I saw this. I didn't think to try it on dry hair. It gives me hope now that I can do it that way.
Beautiful video and results. You took me back to my teenage years.

We use too put the lil white paper around the the rollers b4 we rolled our hair...
Yes😂❤
That’s awesome ❤ I don’t do any extra steps that I don’t have to, we already know how long it takes to do our hair so I try to simplify the process ❤❤
Yup, end papers
Yes. We had to have those papers. Lol
My teacher said that it gives you a smoother look. I took Cosmetology all 4 years in high School. This roller style was the way we were taught to do a roller set.
On the sides though,we rolled them in the downward position. ❤
Thanks for this video, I feel encouraged to go back to using my rollers and perm rods.
Do you have a video on how you wrap the results at night? Do you pin curl or ponytail to keep the curls?
My exact question 🙋🏾♀️
Yes I would really like a video on how to sleep with the style.
I’m wondering the same also

I normally don’t comment on videos… but I can’t help it. I LOVE IT SIS ❤❤❤
Why do you first blow out your hair, then roll,, then have to sit under a dryer. Double heat process.😮 You explain quite well. Thank you 😅
Do the clamps work better than roller pins? The clamps don't look like they hold very tight. And, they look like they could leave dents.
So beautiful! 😍🤩🥰🔥
I tried to do a roller set one day on wet hair, but it didn’t turn out the way I wanted. I’ll try it on blowdried hair next time with a mousse like you have done.

You have inspired me to roller set my natural hair! I haven't had a roller set since I had perm in high school! Question, how do you maintain it when you are sleeping?
I like the soft satin rollers ❤
Love it! Do you think the results would differ if I don’t use a hooded dryer??
No the results won’t be different. Sitting under a dryer just helps cut down on the drying time ❤
This is good teaching!! How long does the style last? Also can I do this on flatirons hair?
Yes just make sure you apply a styling product to your hair so your hair will curl ❤
Love this turorial. Ive never set my hair up at the sides...always set it down, but your method looks amazing. Will definitely try this. Thank you❤
Hi, great video ❤
Is your hair natural or do you have a relaxer??
Hi, I’m Natural ❤
Your hair look so good! I haven't use snap rollers in so long, I'll have to try it sometime soon!

Mousse gives the hair dandruff
Hi! I loved this tutorial. What is the size of your rollers?
HOW do you keep a roller set from reverting in under 1 day in hot humid weather ~ Florida.
What shampoo and conditioner are you using?
How large do I make my sections back? About one inch? I understand I make it a little LESS wider than the roller but are these 1 inch margin sections?
Love the bonnet
Beautiful results girl, you remind me of Syleena Johnson!
lol thank you!!
@@AsAlwaysAleia You’re welcome.
Absolutely Beautiful!❤ I have the rollers and I just purchased the comb and the setting lotion.
Am a new sub I noticed. You do roller set often. Is it your go to style?
What products? Just the setting lotion? No oil for the scalp serum for frizz? What order? How much? Im lost
How many packs of the rollers did you use?
6 come in a pack and I ordered 3 packs, they’re linked in the description ❤
As I Am is a great line.
Did you start with damp, wet, dry or washed & blow dried hair?
Love this, especially, since 1yr natural ❤
Provide other options for me… thanks for sharing
How’d you dry your hair but it was no heat required? I’m a little slow
Is this mousse a MUST or do you have recommendations for what works best?
Any styling mousse is good
Where’s the bonnet from please😍
Hi,
So the middle section is rolled forward, and the 2 sides are rolled over, upward? Thanks I need to know the roll pattern.
How did your hair get straight in the beginning? Blow dry?
Right! That’s what I’m tryna figure out.
My go to style! I just hate sitting under the dryer, takes me at least 3 hours 😒
Thank you for this I am excited to do this style ❤❤❤
Kurlee belle don't seem to have the blue bonnet you were wearing. Any other suggestions?
Beautiful head of healthy hair 😍
Thank you so much 🎉
This came out sooooo good! 😍😍😍
Do you have to blow dry your hair before?
You do not have to blow dry your hair before hand but it will cut back on the drying time ❤
Do these styles help you retain length as well
Yes this is a low manipulation hairstyle ❤
I'm white, and as you know, our hair is different. I have short hair and it's permed. And I use brush rollers without picks, the new kind out today.
Brush rollers can be damaging to the hair fibers
Would you consider using the hair color wax?
I have about 5 hair color videos on my channel, check it out
That’s was refreshing and pleasant!
Thank you 🎉🎉
Did you blow dry your natural hair before this process?
I used the RevAir to do my blow out, but you can certainly start on wet hair in needed ❤
New subbie! Your hair is beautiful! ❤❤❤
Beautiful hair.
Hey, do you have a relaxer?
Hey no, I’ve never had a relaxed ❤
That was my go to style!!!❤
and still is sis!!

Beautiful. Thank you
