  • From Wikipedia:
Keys to Ascension 2 is a double album by the British progressive rock group Yes and was released in 1997. It is the successor to the critically acclaimed Keys to Ascension 2-CD set from 1996. It is the band's sixteenth studio album and fifth live album.
Like the first seven tracks on the previous album, the first six tracks on Keys to Ascension 2 were recorded live in San Luis Obispo, California in March 1996. The second disc features studio recordings made in November 1996. Rick Wakeman wanted these studio tracks to be released with Jon Anderson's working title Know, with the disc of live tracks thrown in as a bonus. Wakeman's preference was not honoured and by the time Keys to Ascension 2 was released, he was no longer in the band.
Keys to Ascension 2 features cover art by Roger Dean on an outer sleeve that fits around the package. On the sleeve, the image's predominant colour is magenta, but the booklet features the painting in its original blue colouration.
Note: "Mind Drive" would be Yes' eighth and last song over 18 minutes until "Fly from Here" in 2011.
"Mind Drive" was originally a concept that the band XYZ, which featured Chris Squire, Alan White and Jimmy Page, wrote and demoed in 1981.
    Lyrics:
Dont forget to seek out the world
If you want to stay [stake out]
Your actions speak much louder than words
    And you get to realize
Just as long as you have control
    Holding the fire
Just as long as you can control
    This point of your desire
Great days, it will all come to you [wait as it will ...]
Feel another future response [feel it as a...]
You get the heaven you like
    You get the heaven
You get the heaven you need
    You get to heaven now
Just as long as you bring the power
    From the inside
Just as long as you hold the key
    From the inside
    Ascend and create
    Ascend and create
    Ascend and create
    Ascension
    They will bring you rain
    They will move the sky
    They will give you light
It will lift you long [it will live you long.]
    To the eyes of child
    To the song of songs
    It will bring the moon
    It will transfer you
    Whole [home]
Pushing for the time to call
    Dancing on the moon
Giving it out [digging it out]
    In the night of nights
    It will shine for you
    With the wings of flight
    It will make it through
To the eyes of child [through the eyes...]
    And the test of song
    It will comfort you
    It will make you feel
    Whole
Looking for the chance to call
    Making the world
    Independently
    Whole
Watching for the place to run
    Dancing, dancing, move
    We will make it right
    We will dance for you
    On this night of nights
    They will make it through
    Through the eyes of child
    And the wish you are
    As the thought that comes
    From a distant star
    Whatever thoughts you have
    Can become a new dream
    For the perfect stance
Take you there and back again
    And you believe you are
    Independently whole
Waiting for the signs, whole [home]
    Reaching for the farside show
    Whole
    Dancing for the moon
    Dancing for the light
    Whole
    Pushing for the mind drive
    Dancing for the hour [earth]
    Dancing for the light
    Whole
    Dancing for the light
    They will bring the rain
    They will make it right
    It will transfer you
    Each and every night
    With her wings of hope
    They will cover you
    They will make it right
    They will shine for you
    With the golden wings
    Close around your soul
    It will count for you
    It will make you whole
To the eyes of child [through the eyes...]
    And the song of songs
    It will make you move
    It will transfer you
And so it comes to this now
When you walk into the bliss that
    Holds down the fire
    As pleasure will divide [divine]
So close, so let your heart enter
Succumb and let your heart enter this [so come, and let...]
So close, and let yourself lose control
Heaven help the love that you send
Heaven has the love you send.
    Reeeeeeeea _ llly [breathe]
    Whole
Watching for the time to call
    Dancing in the light
    Making it right
    Dancing
    Dancing
    Whole
    Waiting for the signs
    Whole [home]
Reaching for the sight to show
    Whole
    Independently
    Whole
    Pushing for the mind drive
    Dancing on the out [earth]
    Dancing in the light
    They will bring the rain
    They will shine the light
    Understanding this
    It can come tonight
    For the love of love
    And the answers, too
    It begins with me
    It begins with you
    Whole
Wishing for the time to call
    Looking for the sign
    Making it right
    Dancing
    Dancing
    Whole
Waiting for the time to call
    Dancing in the harmless sun
    Entering the mind drive
Dont forget to seek out the world
If you want to stake out
Actions speak much louder the words [than words]
    And you get to realize
Just as long as you have control
    Holding the fire
Just as long as you get to keep
    This point of your desire
When tense, it will come to you [wait as it will come to you]
Fear of the future response [feel it as a future response]
You get the heaven you like
    You get to heaven
You get the heaven you need
    You get to heaven now

At one time I thought this song to be inferior to Gates of Delirium, but the more I listen to the lyrics the more I am impressed by Jon's wisdom. These words are beyond belief! This song is one of the best ever tunes to be invented by anyone. I am glad it was Yes who did it. These guys are absolute Monsters, as far as Prog goes!!!!!!

Yes has so many of these awesome long pieces that go completely unnoticed by most people. Endless Dream, Mind Drive, Dreamtime, That That Is...
Also, that little harmonic change on the "Whoooole" motif around the 13-minute mark is a beautiful little touch.

    • @atlasking6110
      @atlasking6110 7 років тому +4

Dreamtime is criminally underrated. The only annoying thing is the orchestral part tacked onto the end that has nothing to do with the song.

Much the same as my experience, Dave. First Yes album: CTTE late '72, just turned 14. Never listened to anything by them after Tormato (I mean, apart from hearing a few singles, but I hated Owner of a Lonely Heart). Just started to catch up with later stuff this last 6 months. I was introduced to both Yes and the Qabbalah in 1973. I am not sure if there is a direct correlation between Jon’s lyrics and the Qabbalah, although the symbolism that can be drawn from them speak to numerous concepts of spiritual reality and cultivation. That said, 1973 was one of the most significant years of this lifetime. Yes became my all time favorite band and Qabbalistic thought has since been the framework for my understanding of God, creation and man’s place in it.

I attribute this effect to the superior musicianship involved in making both beautiful songs!!! This song also morphs into the the latter parts of RSOG; I am not complaining!!! It has been said that great minds dwell on ideas, common minds are concerned with things, and small minds with people. YES has given voice to ideas like no other band.

I remember back to the days of the past when I frolicked through the fields merrily to and fro singing plucking wildflowers gayfully wistfully wondrously gazing all about me and then,,,I get bit by a timber rattlesnake. Only thing I remember after that is squealing and screeching running through the now hideous woods and forests in sheer panic and stark terror dear God don't let me die !!!

@@lucidonoccasion5012 The drum/bass part beginning after the first 2 minutes of the song, repeated later. Also the part when they sing "Whole [home] / Pushing for the time to call / Dancing on the moon / Giving it out [digging it out]".

From the "XYZ" sessions, short for "Ex Yes Zeppelin", a short lived collaboration between Jimmy Page and Chris Squire, not sure who else was involved. Based on this, could have been a really interesting outing.

Yes is the best band group forever and ever if that's something like twenty members there's been two years groups you're so amazing and they put up Spiritual music they have one risque song Rhythm of Love they're the best forever and ever and ever and ever and that comes from on an audiophile

    • @tonyanderton3521

Kirk, I think that Rhythm of Love was Trevor Rabin's idea. I think that he was behind it. I've also been listening to "In the Presence of" off the Magnification album. Another deeply Spiritual song about how we are always surrounded by the Divine. Check out the Symphonic Live version.

A mathematician or scientist might tell you that understanding things through the lens of math will give you a deeper understanding. I agree to a certain extent. But as someone who gives great value to the creative process, I make the same claims about works of art. All of this might be difficult for some to understand. Listening to this closely might help.

    • @buminbeer2
      @buminbeer2 8 років тому

I might agree with you, but I don't with regards to the lyrics. I have been a Yes fan since the 70's and NONE of the lyrics ever made sense, as in not one. Roundabout lyrics was because Jon simply liked the "flow", it meant nothing. Owner of Lonely Heart, nothing as well as Leave It. Just whatever sounded good in the mix is what Jon has always said. There is so little meaning, you are reaching my friend, hehe...
Example of a Lyric of mine and see what you get from it?
What man is he who lives - and shall not see his death
That man will surely parish - and there he will rest
I know what is means to me, but 99% won't...

    • @dexterdog717
      @dexterdog717 7 років тому +2

I agree with you but it is still art and the meaning can be interpreted by the listener.
