General Lee I discovered Yes when I was twelve going on thirteen!!! Upon involuntarily listening to GFTO!!! That experience completely guided my life for years to come...
A masterpiece music composition, mind-expanding prog rock still exists. This is for those of us who require more than a 4 chord/4 minute song about the mundane to satisfy us.
I have been listening to Yes since the Yes Album. Early 70's and it blew me away this song was released back in 2001 and didn't hear it one single time in the the past 20 years. Didn't know it existed until a couple days ago! Crazy.
Much the same as my experience, Dave. First Yes album: CTTE late '72, just turned 14. Never listened to anything by them after Tormato (I mean, apart from hearing a few singles, but I hated Owner of a Lonely Heart). Just started to catch up with later stuff this last 6 months. I love Keys to Ascension so far. It's like discovering a new band. Cheers.
Yes has so many of these awesome long pieces that go completely unnoticed by most people. Endless Dream, Mind Drive, Dreamtime, That That Is... Also, that little harmonic change on the "Whoooole" motif around the 13-minute mark is a beautiful little touch.
An absolutely glorious song. Around the 8:50 mark the beauty is almost heartbreaking, especially when the lyrics kick in shortly thereafter and the song touches something magical, if not mystical.
cheekbrown Please check out Going For The One: that’s what sucked me in when I was twelve going on thirteen. My unadulterated child-mind was transformed.
At one time I thought this song to be inferior to Gates of Delirium, but the more I listen to the lyrics the more I am impressed by Jon's wisdom. These words are beyond belief! This song is one of the best ever tunes to be invented by anyone. I am glad it was Yes who did it. These guys are absolute Monsters, as far as Prog goes!!!!!!
There are really a lot of different emotions in this song! This is one of the best way of spending 20 minutes of your life! "Yes" are true masters, and.....awesome images!! They fits great with the music!!! :)
Thank you for featuring. Couldn't find on Spotify. Used to have in CD but lost. Fond memories of helping my Dad choose a new amplifier, trawling Hi FI stores, CD in hand. This and Steve Hackets Valley of the Kings, helped us choose a nice marantz. (After about 3 weekends!!!).
This song is seared into my being in the same way that all Yesmusic is: as this song plays in my mind in the absence of any other tonal sounds....this song morphs into Parallels from GFTO. I attribute this effect to the superior musicianship involved in making both beautiful songs!!! This song also morphs into the the latter parts of RSOG; I am not complaining!!! Thank you for the upload and the beautiful videos
I think the studio tracks from the Keys to Ascension albums get overlooked by some Yes fans. I think they were a throwback to the long epic songs that made Yes such a great band. I especially liked That, That Is.
One of the last lyrics gets me every time 'Look upon this life as just a picture you are painting There is a reason for this being Look upon this place as just a part of all that is It is a spiritual part of being.' Wonderful...... xx bikingbirder2016.blogspot.pe/
The Keys to Ascension studio tracks were really the last very good and impressive new studio efforts by the band. Now I go running and duck for cover....
I was introduced to both Yes and the Qabbalah in 1973. I am not sure if there is a direct correlation between Jon’s lyrics and the Qabbalah, although the symbolism that can be drawn from them speak to numerous concepts of spiritual reality and cultivation. That said, 1973 was one of the most significant years of this lifetime. Yes became my all time favorite band and Qabbalistic thought has since been the framework for my understanding of God, creation and man’s place in it.
I love this. YES has other unrecognized long epic songs such as, "Endless Dream" and even "Gates Of Delirium" and "That, That Is". The late Squire's bass playing here is phenomenal.
Endless Dream and That, That is are definitely unrecognized, but I wouldn’t say The Gates of Delirium is unrecognized. Many Yes fans consider it is one of their best epics.
@@nickavenoso7851 Check out Dreamtime from the album Magnification, other example of unrecognized song. Magnification is a magnificent album similar to keystudio/ascention but much less recognized.
Earlier I listened to Endless Dream and concluded afterwards I hadn't been paying enough attention to the 80's and 90's material Yes produced. I have to admit that I love their lengthy tracks from this period. Next time, but not now for it is a bit late in the night now, I will explore "That, That Is".
Your comment made me look up Chris Squire to see if you were right, and unfortunately you were. I'm shocked. I can't help but think that if he and the rest of Yes had slowed down and waited for Jon Anderson that he might still be here. I was and will always be a huge fan of his. A phenomenal bassist and founding member of Yes. He will be sorely missed.
Easily one of their most underrated songs. I first heard of it when my uncle and I were watching the 35th Anniversary concert and they played this. "The computer is our guide...the computer is our friend..."
Been listening to Yes since 1971 and still discovering music I didn't know had been released. My 2 favorite groups have been YES and Pink Floyd since 1971.
Maybe the best work Yes ever did. It certainly stands up, in every way, with Close to the Edge, The Revealing Science of God, The Gates of Delirium, or Awaken. Awesome visuals here as well.
Keys to Ascension 1 & 2 were the last Yes records I gave a listen and I’m kicking myself for having taken so long to give them a chance. Absolutely stunning.

A 90's Yes masterpiece
16:34 really kicks in. This song showed that after 28 years they could still wipe the floor with most other bands.
That is SO TRUE 👍🔥
The section on 10:58 is also mind-blowing.
Yes has so many of these awesome long pieces that go completely unnoticed by most people. Endless Dream, Mind Drive, Dreamtime, That That Is...
Also, that little harmonic change on the "Whoooole" motif around the 13-minute mark is a beautiful little touch.
Dreamtime is criminally underrated. The only annoying thing is the orchestral part tacked onto the end that has nothing to do with the song.
Atlas King i like that ending
Like that ending too. A nod to Genesis "Supper's Ready" for a while there, followed by some wild Howe-Wakeman moments.
The opening of this song is so "Beautifully Bitter Sweet"....Captures what other artists only dream of.
A stunning, incredibly underrated piece of music. Thank you for sharing it.
Quite simply the best change of key I've ever heard...sends shivers down my spine every time. Genius
Yes, and the choice of notes was brilliant.

"Mind Drive"
Don't forget to seek out the world that you want to stake out
Actions speak much louder than words
And you get to realize
Just as long as you have control, holding the fire
Just as long as you keep control, this point of your desire
Wait as it will all come to you
Feel it as a mutual response
You get the heaven you like
You get the heaven
You get the heaven you need
You get to heaven now
Just as long as you bring the power from the inside
Just as long as you hold the key from the inside
Ascend and create
Ascend and create
Ascension
They will bring you rain
They will move the sky
They will give you light
It will live you long
Thru' the eyes of child
Through the song of songs
It will bring the moon
It will transfer you
Whole, pushing for the time to call
Dancing on the moon, giving it out
In the night of nights
It will shine for you
With the wings of flight
They will make it thru'
Through the eyes of child and the test of song
It will comfort you
It will make you feel
Whole, looking for the chance to call
Making your world, independently
Whole, watching for the place to run
Dancing, dancing, move
We will make it right
We will dance for you
On this night of nights
They will make it thru'
Through the eyes of child and the wish you are
As the thought that comes from a distant star
Whatever thought you have
Can become a new dream
For the perfect stance
Take you there and back again
And you believe you are
Independently, Whole
Waiting for the signs, Whole
Reaching for the foresight shown
Whole, dancing for the moon, dancing for the light
Whole, pushing for the mind drive, drive
Dancing for the Earth, dancing for the light
Whole
Dancing for the light
They will bring the rain
They will make it right
It will transfer you, each and every night
With their wings of hope, they will cover you
They will make it right, they will shine for you
With their golden wings, close around your soul
It will count for you, it will make you whole
Thru' the eyes of child, and the song of songs
It will make you move, it will transfer you
And so it comes to this now
When you walk into the bliss that
Holds down the fire
As pleasure will devine
So close so let your heart enter
So come and let your heart enter this
So close and let yourself lose control
Heaven help the love that you send
Heaven has the love you send, free
Whole, watching for the time to call
Dancing in the light, making it right
Dancing, dancing, whole
Waiting for the signs, whole
Reaching for the sight to show
Whole, independently, whole
Pushing for the mind drive, drive
Dancing on the Earth, dancing in the light
They will bring the rain, they will shine the light
Understanding this, it can come tonight
For the love of love and the answers to
It begins with me, it begins with you
Whole, pushing for the time to call
Looking for the sign, making it right
Dancing, dancing, whole
Waiting for the time to call
Dancing in the harmless sun
Entering the mind drive
Don't forget to seek out the world that you want to stake out
Actions speak much louder than words
And you get to realise
Just as long as you have control, holding the fire
Just as long as you get to keep, this point of your desire
