      @@joeldiramon8538 It's coming in the mail Monday, My goal has been the best HDR, non shitty g-sync monitor on the market and I have been stuck between this and the Neo g9. However the Neo G9 (and pretty much all of the Odyssey Samsung monitors seem to have poor quality control and customer service. The Samsungs seem to have a ton of negative reviews and personally I am not a fan of extreme ultrawides because of how few games are optimized for it, while the Neo G9 has more dimming zones and higher brightness but also doesn't come equiped with G-sync ultimate. Honestly I didn't want to roll the dice on quality and felt that ASUS was a bit more reputable. and since I got it on sale for 1500 ish, it came in a grand cheaper than the Neo G9. Considering this is my first non 60hz monitor I feel I will be blown away. Probably will keep it to 120hz 12 bit color or 144 10 bit I'm not that competitive.

    • @TheHCPro
      @TheHCPro 2 роки тому +1

      @@joeldiramon8538 Just got mine in the mail Monday, its gorgeous in every aspect, but my biggest criticism isn't the FALD like I thought it was going to be. Due to it being a Full gamut monitor most things in windows appear very warm. While delivering almost perfect blacks that truly blend into the bezel, it seems to have trouble with cooler colors, youtube and steam instead of having a cool grey look are more of a warm grey. Depending on what you are viewing it can sometimes look like a very mild version of the night mode of other monitors. In game and when viewing hdr content it isn't very noticeable. Greens, yellows, oranges, and reds are incredibly vibrant but blues aren't quite as vivid when compared to an OLED. Contrast is incredible, bright bright colors next to dark colors and blacks look fantastic. The haloing is very mild and I can deal with that easily. It all depends on what you are looking for in a monitor. I am blessed by my dank oled TV and the average scmuck might not even notice the warmness of the display. Personally I was envisioning my endgame as having dual of these monitors I think I will end up getting a different secondary monitor for content consumption that doesn't look so warm. Maybe something like the new Samsung QD-OLEDs that will be out eventually if I can find one for a non insane price. (That is if they step up their quality control and customer service, I have seen a ton of quality issues with the new Neo G9's and pretty much all the odyssey monitors)

      Depends on the game, graphic quality dosent really matter in very quick paced games where the extra refresh rate is needed, even the GTX 1050Ti can handle 4k CSGO at really high framerates but other games like assasisns creed oddysy, ultra settings 120 fps is all a person would ever want

      200Hz causes the desktop to be much smoother. You can tell the difference vs even 144Hz. It's not just about games. And yes, an RTX2080Ti can get over 100FPS on a lot of AAA games. Tomb Raider series, Wolfenstein I and II, Witcher 3, Sniper Elite 4 and many others.

    We need more 200hz Ultrawides to drive that price down to ~$1200-1500. I really want a replacement for my 100hz Acer X34, but a 44hz jump (often with worse response times and/or black smearing or overshoot) isn't really worth it or justifiable looking at monitors in the $600-1000 range. It's a little crazy to think this monitor has been out almost 2 years and there's very little competition and price has not come down at all, though given the semiconductor shortage I guess it's not that unexpected.

    • @photonboy999
      @photonboy999 5 років тому

      I think you mean "lack of Freesync" but you do have another option if this concerns you. Just look for a GSync Compatible Freesync monitor. NVidia has added a lot of Freesync monitors to its driver support so they work with NVidia cards and obviously work with AMD cards... also, why would they make their GSYNC monitor work with all AMD cards? That kind of defeats the investment they made into the GSYNC MODULE without which we may not have asynchronous monitors at all... we'll get fully open source at some point. Don't worry. But again, NVidia is a business. I dislike walled gardens too but you do have an option as I said, and I think NVidia has every right to do what they want.

    • @davidfrisken1617
      @davidfrisken1617 5 років тому

      @@photonboy999 Yep, that was a double negative. My complaint is the lack of longevity of such an expensive purchase, without Freesync/VESA sync. Some other top end units do/will have support for Freesync and G-Sync and it is a shame it is not included. I suppose if you are paying this much extra just for HDR, and willing to accept the negatives of a VA panel, money is not an issue.

    For a little math:
    4K 3840x2160 144Hz is 8,29 MegaPixels
    3K 3440x1440 200Hz is 4,95 MegaPixels
    That is ~40% pixel count increase from 3K to 4K while going from 144Hz to 200Hz is rougly ~39% refreshrate increase.
    So everything is balanced. With 4K you get 40% more pixels for 39% less refreshrate and the opposite for 3K.

      And just FYI but DSC (Display Stream Compression) monitors are coming so the more recent cards that support DSC (GTX1000 and above?) will be able to hit the FULL native refresh at 4:4:4 10-bit... It's not really necessary to redo benchmarks with new cards to get a pretty good idea of performance for Destiny 2. They're going to scale about the same as most other similar games. Expect perhaps a small performance jump so the GTX1080Ti at 4K, highest, smaa gets about 50FPS: www.techpowerup.com/review/destiny-2-beta-benchmark-performance-test/4.html
      The non-super RTX2080 would be about 30% higher, and the RTX2080Ti about 66% higher than 50FPS... depending on the price the RTX2080 Super or similar might end up the best value... unless NAVI is getting a noticeably higher FPS vs Dollar ratio I'd go with an NVidia RTX2000 series card as NAVI doesn't have RT/Tensor cores which don't benefit much now but they will so again I'd not necessarily assign too much value but I'd assign at least a 10% price difference vs similar performing NAVI cards... I'd not get a card with less than 6GB of VRAM so I'd start with the RTX2070 and up

      @photonboy999 5 років тому +1

      err... that should have also said "... on the PG278Q's eight-bit panel." So the 10-bit signal comes from the GPU, the GSync module first does all its normal processing, then at the end it converts from 10-bit to 8-bit via temporal dithering before finally outputting the new frame to the LCD panel.

    • @photonboy999
      @photonboy999 5 років тому +1

      More info here about how Temporal Dithering works: smerity.com/articles/2013/dithering.html
      If it's alternating between two colors then it must be comparing a new frame to the old frame so that it is able to figure out how to alter the colors to dither. You'd think that would add a little latency but i guess it's minor.

    • @SlyNine
      @SlyNine 5 років тому

      @@photonboy999 I appreciate the information. However, Windows will output an 8 bit + dithering signal. FRC makes sense internally, because the monitor understands the timings of the crystals.
      But when you throw gsync on top, which gives you variations in frame time and it's windows sending out the signal. That's a whole new level of complexity. I'm wondering if dithering is operating at a separate frequency from the 8 bit signal.

It's a Quantum Dot screen, which the reviewer didn't mention once. Though, the specs are what they are, so whatever, I guess. As long as the viewing angles are good enough and there are no deal breaking quirks compared to an IPS based panel, this should breath quite a lot of life into even regular SDR content. After seeing the reviews of this monitor, it's sure looking like high zone count local area dimming(at least as we presently know it) is a stop-gap technology, not a solution. We really need the more advanced pixel-by-pixel style technologies for local area dimming to truly be 'without asterisk' if you will.
    When this is the "best of the best", it's clear that REAL HDR is multiple panel generations away from being truly viable as an outright SDR replacement rather than an "optional feature".
    None the less, this thing is an incredible example of all of today's most advanced mass production viable display technologies
