While I liked the flow of the OVA more than you, we more or less have the same general outlook on it. And on Decode. Decode was awful. Anyway. You missed the opportunity to mention the best part of the OVA: Birdy's smile. It makes me happy and giddy inside just by looking at it. Second best smile in anime after what Abe consistently does in his works.
You didn't like Decode? Well, to each their own I suppose. I liked Decode. I did think it could have been handled much better, but I found it enjoyable. Still wished it felt more complete though. I could have seen it going 4-5 seasons if they really flushed out the story.
It's not just one volume. The rebooted manga is much better and is translated up to volume 17
Update: the scanlation is complete, and the follow-up, Birdy the Mighty: Evolution, has been scanlated up 2 volume 3! :D
