It was mine! And while I did like the music aspect, the plot pissed me off so much because of all the questions I was left with. And now that I am pretty much caught up with the whole story, I'm even more pissed lol So much was left out for no reason.
I think they should have instead done an anime about TDD, that would have been much better.

For a bit more expansion on Gentaro: Gentaro speaks in "classical Japanese" or "literary Japanese", which was developed during the Heian era (794-1185) & was the form of Japanese that ALL literature was written in. As spoken Japanese evolved with time, written Japanese did not. Then, in the Meiji era (1868-1912) (think Victorian era), writing in the spoken dialects became more popular among authors as part of the modernization movement. While the subs are technically more accurate as a textbook translation, they strip away the context & connotation the rest of Gentaro's character has

I'd never heard of this before, and I started watching about when episode 2 came out in English.
As soon as the OP hit and illustrated a unique voice and hip-hop expression for each character, I was instantly hooked, and haven't looked back. I remember pulling up the OP and sharing it around to everyone who might listen like 'THIS LOOKS SO COOL???', hahaha. Immediately started listening to the songs, watching the VAs (enjoying their performances without understanding a thing) and reading any lore I could get my hands on. If there are any sort of lore or character videos you'd have personal interest in making (especially about Ramuda, because I read vague stuff about clones and got REALLY confused), then they'd be a phenomenal watch for newer, thirsty fans like me.
After diving into more of what little I could get my dumbass English-only hands on though, I felt like the anime was a little too simplistic and could actively tell the plot-device set-ups or minor twists for each episode as I continued to watch. I did enjoy the songs in it though, and it helped establish a fascination with the characters' designs in their art, HYPMIC aesthetics and unique traits. Not as much as the actual non-anime tracks at all, mind you (especially the YT videos with the VAs and two additional Divisions). I also found a lot of the dynamics and interactions between the characters to be wonderful, and I was LITERALLY on my feet cheering on my Matenro bois during the tournament. Interestingly, I ended up not being that interested in Fling Posse's dynamic at all, but went on to be arguably most impressed with their music once I got around to listening to them. I feel bad they weren't represented better, 'cause their music is SO damn cozy - constantly got that Stella and Shibuya Marble Texture on repeat. I would've much preferred to see a hedonistic Dice, that sounds hysterical.
So as someone who found the series through the anime, I definitely think it's a good entry point to the franchise. My interest grew extremely quickly, and I'm definitely glad I found it. I would probably watch it again sometime on the basis of getting to see these characters that I adore animated and visibly interacting, but I'll be mindful to take it with a grain of salt, to some degree. Now I just gotta dig around at some point and find some proper English resources (wiki seems very barebones) with lore and additional information sometime 'cause I keep putting off learning Japanese. I get iffy about manga sites and whatnot, so I've only managed to find one of the T.D.D. mangas translated to English. Hopefully the anime will be successful enough that more of these resources will be released with translations. I DESPERATELY wanna play the rhythm game.
For the most part though, I'm just gonna keep this phenomenal music on repeat and wish I understood the drama CDs.
Thanks for the awesome HYPMIC videos! \o/

As a person who became a fan of Hypnosis Mic overnight, I absolutely enjoyed the anime and the music that came with it. Even till this day I'm still listening to the music from the 2nd DRB. I have to admit that they did made some changes compared to the drama tracks and manga, but I think they only did that just to get people like myself who were not fans of the series originally. This anime was just an advertisement Hypmic series and it is not supposed to be taken seriously. As for why the Nagoya and Osaka were not mentioned in the anime? My guess is that they are saving them for a possible Season 2 whenever the 2nd DRB ends. I also enjoyed your previous video on Hypnosis Mic as it really gave me an idea on why Hypmic is about and I look forward to seeing more videos on the characters from Hypmic.

I got into the albums around the middle portion of the anime and i think i'd enjoy it more if those songs were in the anime. You are right that the anime does leave more questions than answers. I did some research for myself and became more interested as i read on. I am curious if you'd make a video about the characters backstories, mostly the leaders. I know ichiro and samatoki hate each other but the anime didn't provide much detail. Same with ramuda and jakurai, i was confused why they dislike each other and the anime didn't explain much about that guy in a coma with ramuda suspected to be the cause of it. I speak english so my knowledge is very limited sadly. So videos like this really explains things better. I did enjoy your Hyp Mic explained video. Wish i saw it before I watched the anime. I love the songs and Matenro is my fave (hifudopo stan)

The reason The Dirty Dawg broke up wasn't entirely clear until a few months ago. It's revealed in the " - Before the Battle - The Dirty Dawg" manga. Fan translations exist but you'd have to hunt them down yourself. I'm glad I can help fill in some of the gaps. I could make a video on it if I there's enough demand. Matenro is indeed the best \(^-^)/

As a new entry on the hypmic fandom (hi everyone), I appreciate the anime especially with someone who needs to get used to 12 characters (+2 girls) (without the other 6 altho ConMan is there).
I got curious of other adaptations (especially what the heck happened with Samatoki and Ichiro and that button thing) and I'm currently on ch 8 of the TDD manga.
A reviewer on MAL said it's a bad entry point but I dont feel it is lolol. It's a part of a franchise after all and I know you just can't understand the story from the anime.
P.S. I LOOOOVE the singing part of Iris! Her VA has a good rap into her too!!

I agree. I TOTALLY agree with EVERYTHING. I state that, before seeing the anime, I got to know Hypmic through the songs that every now and then YT recommended on the home, more than anything else, and when I knew that it would have had an anime transposition I could not be other than happy! 😍😍I was very curious😍
However, I must point out that I had read nothing about it before seeing it. I've read all the mangas AFTER seeing the anime and having perceived, even without knowing basically anything about the plot, all these deficiencies at the base and all the open questions left, well perceptible even if I didn't know the story (I LOVE THE MANGA. SERIOUSLY. It's so clearifing and well thought!😍). Overall, I managed to find the anime enjoyable (for this very reason) and I'm forcing myself to consider the two things well separated, but I admit that I had expectations (probably unconscious hahaha) that have been a little disappointed (and I add that I found the 3D animation disturbing). However, I'm hopeful for a possible second season! 💪

In my opinion, I think animes are usually the first and easiest thing that people look for when wanting to get into a new franchise, so this would have been the absolute perfect opportunity to adapt canon material from the drama tracks and mangas so new fans can use this anime as a gateway into the franchise. I was kinda disappointed with how they chose to go about it story-wise but I guess it's better than nothing because I was thrilled to finally see them moving compared to looking at JPEGS for years lol

I honestly love the anime tbh. It was my first exposure to the franchise and I deeply fell in love with it, but I can realize that some people may have their problems with it and accept it's faults. I feel like it's just very frustratingly hard to get into anything hypnosis mic related because English is my first and only language, making every subsequent listen to the drama tracks and manga look-throughs a hassle mostly because I have to go to tumblr or some shady website to find the manga or pull up a separate window to try an read the subtitles for the drama tracks. It's kind of embarrassing to admit it but I've watched the anime about 8 or 9 times (if not ten) and I just love to sit down and enjoy it again with a new group of friends.

And I'm kinda mad about them messing up the character development of Jiro and Saburo (the warehouse scene in ep 1 vs the manga) and making Ramuda much more evil (in the manga, he was hesitant about using the true hypnosis mic on Jakurai bc he still cared. In the anime, he wanted to bring Jakurai down with him)
but other than that? I think it was enjoyable

  • @BerryBearBeaver

I'm super late to this video, but I really like how analytic it is, especially for the Fling Posse character readings, great stuff.
For context, this anime is what got me into the franchise but honestly it was bc I was looking to make fun of it more. Was watching the show while it was airing and thought it was hilariously cringey so I went to find the manga to put it on blast. Little did I know how much more serious things got, and I came out a fan after reading the TDD manga. Started hunting down the drama tracks and had listened to all the 1st DRB ones before the anime had even finished airing.
Now I agree that adaptations are not obligated to a hundred percent match source material, but to me, there's no excuse for what is simply poor writing. I understand that the show is supposed to be pretty goofy but it seems less like the show was intentionally trying to be light-hearted and fun, and more that plot points weren't well thought out and/or executed.
One of my biggest complaints ended up being the battle with Secret Aliens, and their general handling as characters. I'm not super familiar with Rule The Stage, but from the clips I've seen, those original characters seem to be written with more depth and story in mind than Secret Aliens. The whole thing with holding Secret Aliens hostage to battle the four divisions was delivered pretty poorly in my opinion, just overall very convenient and convoluted as a plot point, and it seemed kind of cheap to need all 12 guys to win against those 3. It was too obvious that it was done just so the guys could sing the opening. Now I also do not have a problem with Secret Aliens, I just think the writing in the show was pretty shoddy unfortunately.
That said, there were lots of unintentionally funny moments, and I can look back and laugh now that I'm familiar with the rest of HypMic. I really liked the music though, have to admit. The opening itself is a banger.

      @otaple  3 роки тому

Okay so the Hypnosis Mic manga is split into 3 series focusing on 2 groups at a time and 1 prequel series that focuses on the OG group. The easiest place to start is the prequel series: "Hypnosis Mic -Before the Battle- The Dirty Dawg" and then from there you can read based on which groups interest you. Don't worry about reading things out of order, that's how the franchise is intended to be consumed! If you feel overwhelmed then just pick your favorite group and start with their manga. But if you'd like a recommended order then next in the chronology would be "Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle - side F.P & M" and "Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle - side B.B & M.T.C". Then "Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle - side D.H & B.A.T" (which is still currently being published). Then come the sequels (which are also still currently being published) "Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle - Dawn of Divisions", "Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle - side F.P & M +", and "Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle - side B.B & M.T.C +". I hope that helps!
