Thx for watching! (And the mike Lohr for owning such a bad ass car. Great guy)
AMMO NYC I
AMMO NYC Harley Davidson uses a powder coat like clear coat on their bikes. Bought a new all black low rider s, want to detail it out a bit to remove towel marks from the dealership. What do you recommend?
It's not a single stage paint job....acura forumla red is a tri coat ....orange base coat with a red tinted clear coat....that's why you see paint transfer. ...I have done two nsx in that color
nyrep1 I was wondering how in the world he was getting red paint transferred on that car lol thanks
Thank you! i was also about to ask how in the world was this possible unless there was no clear.
How to spot a guy who LOVES his car: the thousands of detailing equipment/bottles on the shelves!
I have spent more on car equipment than the cost of my actual car lol
At least 6 bottles are oil
@@renaulttoyota6794 hahaha😂😂😂
Watching this channel makes me so knowledgeable for when i start up my mobile detailling service!
Judging by all the motor oils and car stuff on the shelf in this garage, that NSX owner is very loving towards his car. This guy is definitely owning his NSX the right way.
Jesse L
best thing is that without the gas all the cars are just pile of scrap.
I just saw this video got posted! Very exciting... In relation to the paint, this car has had some repair work done (it got hit in the passenger side). Not very bad but certainly enough to get repainted on that side of the car. I imagine this is why the paint hardness and softness changed a lot (although Larry explained this could also be due to different types of panels between plastic, steel and in the NSX's case, aluminum). -The proud owner
The NSX has a clear coat. The difference is the Formula Red for the earlier year NSX like the one in this video uses a tinted clear coat from the factory. All other NSX colors use a "Clear non tinted" clear coat. I'm not sure about the later years Red when Honda/Acura changed to "New Forumala Red", but I believe it too has a tinted clear coat. More research info can be found on the NSX websites.
Chris Kam Finally, we get an educated answer. This makes perfect sense. Mazda is now using some tinted clears on their vehicles. Their Machine Gray is an example.
Test each panel and separate component starting lowest least aggressive pad and work your way up. That’s the plan man thank you
Recently stumbled upon your channel, awesome videos. Nice to find someone who is a fellow detailing "geek" & pays attention to detail! Keep the vids coming
I agree with you about the lighting.. I like position light when I do paint correction
When you determined that some parts of the car had soft paint due to seeing the paint transfer on the pad, how can you be sure that the owner of the NSX hadn`t used Colour Magic or whatever it`s called in America (polish with a red dye added) and that it wasn`t in fact that what was transferring?
I`ve been detailing cars here in the uk for about 18 years and have come across that loads of times when power polishing cars especially red ones.
video was awesome and so helpful. i cannot believe thought that the ad before the video was a ad for chemical guys... why would youtube play another detail company ad over another detailers
I love how you post these videos to actually teach. Not just to show your prody
The point about having 'too much light' is well made by Larry, it's a phenomenon known as visual acuity.
Great Video that shows how important it is to do these test-spots. Keep up the good work! I would like to see how you clean standard fabric seats, because i think that's way more complicated than leather. Greetings from germany!
Hi Larry, I just want to add to this that you could have increased the cut by spritzing the pad with detailer. I think it is important to note also that even though you used a light abrasive polish the pad will still cut on its own even with water. I also tend to use different polishes once I feel a pad is perfect for a job. The reason why I do this is I can guage easier the abrasiveness of the polish much more precisely than pad cut. //Fullwerkes Detailing, UK
P.S. Love your videos.
"Don't fall asleep at the wheel" Best statement of the month. Thanks for the video
Great video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge as it is really helpful.
This video was fantastic dude. Thank you Larry. Gave me so much more insight based off this video. Keep em coming
informative ...good presentation!
+Nick Heinz Thank you for the kind words. And thanks for watching!
My friends dad has this exact NSX! Except his is a slightly more later model without the flip up lights
It is amazing to me I have 15 years of experience doing details/restoring cars or refinishing for dealers and I have the same technics as this guy and also same knowledge after so long I normally don't do exotic cars butt ism the most expensive guy in my town and you know what it feels good by the way a average detailer charges 80 dollar for a full detail I charge 200 to 350 and most of the times even more. The more knowledge you have the more you make, don't get me wrong I also had bad days back on the day hehe
Holy fucking shit, what is punctuation guy?
Hey my phone sucks so don't judge me what are you spelling police
So Larry you only change the pads based on your finding if the paint is soft/hard? It's a system I like. Because usually you have soft, medium and hard pads... but in addition polishes with varying abrasiveness - so you have like 10 or more possible setups, which complicates things.
I would be keen to know how you maintain your cloths and pads....and fantasic show as usual!
Love your videos. I saw you at the Caffeine and Carburetors event today June 16th but you were always mobbed with people and Mike Spanelli lol. Wanted to come over and introduce myself.
Love watching his videos
great video as always and nice work on the Acura NSX :D
NSX original paint is a tri-coat system, maybe at the same time is soft but the clear is tinted so the pad will always come up with color
Years ago I thought I knew my shit with detailing and cleaned my friends cars here and there, Pfft I know nothing. Larry knows his shit, you have a new subscriber
when compounding/polishing what type of microfiber towels would you recommend from getting micro marring from the mf towel?
The NSX is absolutely beautiful.
What a late night surprise! Always thank you for the info and great videos.
Loving the NSX!! Great before and after shot at end of vid.
Hi Larry,
Would this paint difference come from the car being resprayed at some point? Could you shortcut the testing process by knowing if the panels are metal, carbon fiber, or fiberglass? What's the easiest way of telling if the paint is base/clear opposed to single stage paint?
Thanks!
You don't really ever explain what hard and soft paint even is. You just say how to tell if it is hard or not when you're polishing. What even is it? Is there any difference in quality between the two? Why make a paint hard or soft?
The best explanation
thx!
are you using your leveling fluid or some other kind of polish?
I can't wait for your new products to be released soon!
The same tinted clear coat is used on New Formula Red Honda S2000s.
If you're getting paint transfer then it's either single stage paint or whoever painted the car mixed color in with the clear to give it more depth. But if the car is just normally clear coated then there should be no color on your pads.
@AMMO NYC Larry have you released you're leveling fluid and pads yet?
Great video Larry!
Thanks again
You are awesome...thank you
Thanks for the education Larry.
Sweet car wish I could afford one , and thanks for the tutorial.
Also, is there a good way, that you know of, to remove swirls and some straight line scratches by hand?
Larry when polishing a car with sharp body lines, what advice would you give? Polish up to the line, or just go over the area around the line quickly to ensure even correction?
Larry:
I think that the Flex XC3401VRG would have given you more cut with the forced rotation than either rupes or the griots. Should like to see you use the 3401 in some of future videos.,
Thanks for this video. Can you tell me how much pressure should be applied when using polishers and is the pressure you are applying different for different pads? Thanks.
If I got paint transfer like that I would stop polishing that panel immediately. Is it ok to keep going when this much paint is coming off? Clearly there is no clear coat left on this panel and you can't be far from blowing straight through the paint to the primer underneath.
07:17 paint transfer on the pad means there is no clear coat on that panel, OR, the clear coat was tinted red.
I am also confused about the clear coat on this car. Does it have no clear coat? Did you polish through the clear?
If the car has clear coat on it, how did the base color get through?
Question from a newbie. If you cut through to the paint, does that mean the clear coat is gone? Also, when you refer to hard vs soft paint are you referring to the paint or the clear coat? I find this confusing as a total novice
this is kind of far fetched but if you've had experience detailing jaguars, would you say they're typically harder or softer?
Cant wait for you new products larry love are of your stuff they work great
Beautiful car.:-):-) can you please do more detailing on first gen nsx thank you
another top video :)
your back plates are different one from other, one have holes, the other don't.
well, the rupes have more heat than the DA? cause i think the DA have always more heat in the gear head. in my DA the pads actually get very hot and the glue in their velcro start to melt :S what cause deformation in the pad...
some tip for that?
What i wonder is, since we are only removing a microscopic layer from the clear coat, how can the pads color red??? doesnt this mean your actually removing base color??
Are those regular halogens that came with the light or do you use any specific type?
Larry, where is the video in which you talk about re-painted cars...
Did you switch to a compound when you went with a more aggressive pad or did you stay with polish on the soft paint?
Are you making your own pads or selling pads from other manufacturers that you like using?
Would a compound on a polishing pad be more aggressive then polish on a cutting pad?
+Ctyler93 there are different grades of polish, and compunds. Think of it like a spectrum. Likewise the pads are available in all sorts, like all grades of sandpaper grit. So there are unlimited combinations, its just a matter of trial and error in many cases to find the perfect combo (as larry shows).
Yeah thats single stage. Pretty much the difference between single stage and 2 stage paint is the amount of steps that when you are in the paint booth actually spraying the paint. Single stage is a 1 stage painting process, You have the color of your car (base coat) mixed with a material that acts as clearcoat to add the shine. Single stage is much faster/cheaper/Maaco paintjob. 2stage is you spray the base coat, and then bring out your separate bottle of clearcoat to spray. Great vid
Hey Larry, great video as always! The title needs a 2nd look at though. The grammar is off 😵
Anyone have thoughts on whether the harder paint on the rear quarter correlates to body work histories. Or could this be natural result of original factory paint processes?
I checked out the website and i havent seen any cutting/polishing pads? When are you going to come out with them?
Amazing videos/shares here, thank you!
Question for ya...
If I'm not able to wipe the compound off successfully with a microfiber cloth, what exactly is causing this? and would isopropyl/alcohol spray help in this situation? I first suspected it was too much product, but then I toned it down and thought it could be time to change the pad. Could it be a poor wax stripper that I used, causing leftover wax residue?
love this guy
Larry- Have you polished any Challengers lately? Trying to figure out what Im dealing with on my black 2016 Challenger.
Have you ever used a Dynabrade head?
Great video. I was wondering what your thoughts are on hand pads for removing swirls & water spots? I'm thinking of trying those just because I don't have the money to spend on a "Porter Cable" product. I know that you like applying wax with an applicator pad. I have been putting off using paint sealant because I hate that I would be temporarily sealing in those water spots & swirls.
May I ask, for how much do you polish a whole car for ex :2014black BMW 5 and how much time does it take for you if it is in a quite bad condition?
Larry, where did you get your brown leather detailing gloves?-- I love it!
Larry i have a question when you do polishing does my paint have deep scratches swirls everywhere the worst paint out there should i buy a dual action polisher or should i repaint my car one more question my car is 2001 BMW 740il its old paint do you have to do a different regimen
These vids are so great
larry do you still with that idea about the lights? in my garage there is not a light enough, is a little dark like in this video, do you think what you do in that video is a good idea? because in in your new videos you use rupes pen light and I cant see the this led lights
Which is best hard or soft clear coat?
Is it single stage paint or it is clear coated ?
ok . I got your point that it is soft paint because of material removal from polishing compound. What I don't get it is that how come paint trace on the form pad. what I mean is that there is clear coat between the pad and paint. Does the pad remove all clear coat and contact to paint?
if paint color shows up on pad, then it's a single stage paint. no clear coat to begin with. Thanks for watching
can you make a video using the shag carpet cleaner and your spray wax? Thanks:)
Hey Larry, I am attempting to detail my car this weekend for the first time with Griot's 6" polisher. I've been looking through a lot of your videos and I hope that I've gathered all the information that can help me do the job properly. Also, I am trying to learn from your paint chip tutorial. I am debating whether I should go with green or orange pad for compound for my Audi A6 (Navy) and MB C300 (Black). They are both 5 years old. I've heard that I should use green pad for german vehicles but there are a lot of swirls and scratches on the car and am trying to go with orange pads. Which pad do you think I should use?
wow that paint on the front was super soft! :o
One of my favorite cars
How do you wash those pads with paint transfer?
If you want to know a hard from a soft finish, talk to a" painter, restorer " and Yes, as a few savvy posters noticed with clear coat their is no color lifting unless your thru the clear or on a single stage paint. The early nsx is a four stage application as a criss Kam mentioned several months ago. and that changes the polish results again another way
ohh what a surprise it's nonmetallic paint :D i have never ever seen nonmetallic paint clear coated from factory...
when you're getting that paint transfer does that mean the clear coat is almost cut all the way down?
No, I think that that car was painted with single stage paint...which will give you the paint transfer while buffing
Great video! I know earlier you mentioned a IPA wipe. What is your ratio or IPA to water?
I go over this in my video here: ua-cam.com/video/i3uoxCmGWLM/v-deo.html
Hey Ammo NYC i was trying to get in contact with you by email a few days ago about some hard water spots on a new car but havnt really got a response. Thanks id appreciate all the advice i can get from you.
I have a couple of question but can't ask(to many characters). Is there any way I can email you acouple of question I have to ask. I'm also super anxious, I can't wait any longer I want your polishes and MF pads to hit the market already.Thank you for all the videos, not everyone does this.
I want to buy some new paint for my car. How do I know if it's going to dry hard or soft? I want hard paint that will last me for years.
more please
Unless it's because "hard" single-stage paint doesn't transfer to that first particular pad as it wasn't aggressive enough.
Can you do a cloth seat clean video please :)
What makes paint hard/soft? Weather?
love all your videos. very informative!
It would be single stage paint yes. The paint transfer on the pad is not going to be the transfer from a burn through, it would be far, far less. :)
