One of your best videos to date. I would say that these tips are also very applicable to the home enthusiast that may not have the time to invest many many hours in doing a 100 step process, yet still wants their cars to look as good as possible with the time they have available.

Larry, I'm just an engineering student. I don't detail cars, but I love your videos. I appreciate you sharing your business sense with us in this video. I really enjoyed it. Especially when you talked about your early days when you would go beyond what the customer wanted. And how you no longer do that to balance work with your life. I just like to hear tips like these from successful business owners. Thanks a lot.

Guys lets make this man richer by buying more of his products. If anyone deserves a profitable business is Larry. Instead of advertising his products by saying the names of his products every 15 secs, he tells you how to do the job even if it doesn't involve using his products. Larry you done change the game player!

Dude what you say is 100. I'm an automotive tech and specialize on higher end cars myself. When I started my independent career, there was no time for extracurricular activity. I was a slave to my trade. That is true of any person trying to get started. It's hard on your relationships, but the way I see it, if the person you are with cannot support you, then you are probably better off without them.

Larry I have a tremendous amount of respect for you, and thank you for showing the general public the level of work that we produce. You're getting the "high-end" and boutique detailers everywhere, more and more business. I've had numerous customers mention that they saw your youtube videos when they contacted me...so a sincere thank you!

That is fantastic advice thank you I really appreciate it. When I over compensate it even sometimes comes across as a bit needy and approval seeking...I used to attract a lot of abuse by people who would take advantage of my good nature!!
Thank you for confirming that a quoted price is all that is being asked for by the client!!🤝🤝🤝🤝

Great job, im a PDR technician and was just like you, i would go way 2 far, do to much at first, sometimes overcharging for something the customer probably dint even care about as much as i did.
Sometimes Leaving the customer somewhat unhappy for not meeting his needs fully!
I enjoy watching someone that really uses his head to understand every aspect of what he is doing, i think doing that is what makes you good and ultimately faster because your understanding and know how helps you bypass
    time wasting steps!
Love the the vids keep em coming

Very good advice. I used to work as a computer builder and repairer and I would often go the extra mile to make things a little better for the customer. It wouldn't always work out that way, sometimes I'd do something that they actually didn't want done or just made a mistake. The more unnecessary work you do the more risk there is of making a mistake. Then you've gotta deal with that and fix it.

    • @stuvs830
      @stuvs830 9 років тому

Exactly. It's the "No good deed goes unpunished." Customers don't want to hear you did extra work that didn't add to the job. Customers want the job that was agreed on, and for it to look as you promised. -I learned the hard way, too.

You are absolutely right about doing what the clients wants, that way you are not missing out on other things i.e. family moments. Believe me I did it my self and I came around to the same outcome as you. In the pass I just needed to perform and be the best that I could be in my work. Now after 23 years of hard work, I finally saw the light and only do what is needed to be done to be able to look my self in the mirror and be proud of my work going further than that is just not healthy. Some guys never learn that and miss out on a good part of there life. funny enough, I'm not a big fan of cleaning my car, I just enjoy to learn new stuff and I respect the methods and the professionalism that you are putting in your vids.
Some of your tricks are very handy for us guys leaving in Quebec, lots of salt on the roads.
    Salut!

    Larry,
Awesome job every time and extremely helpful tips! Unfortunately, as a new detailer, I'm stuck at doing more for the customer and this is bringing me to a point of giving up! Spending more time and product on a car where the customer might not even recognize the extra 20% you do is not worth it anymore, just like you mentioned! Its tough to break the habit but somehow I'll learn my way out of it, thanks to you sir!

I enjoy watching ur videos. I get into them so much I think because, the more I watch, I'm seeing that you thoroughly think things out and consider what is actually taking place in the materials, products, or equipment that you are using just as I do. Your mind seems to think within the same lines as mine. The way you explain things and think about how they work and perform a certain task is spot on, in my opinion. Some people think I give things way to much thought sometimes and.....well, I have to agree on some occasions. But that's just how I am. And that's the reason I get the results that I do (through trial and error of course). You do good work from what I can see. Being someone who is, at times, slightly weary and unsure of which direction and the steps it takes to be a success in this business, I must commend you on ur sucsess and what you have accomplished so far. You seem to be a person who wishes to never stop learning and never claims to know all, just as I. That makes for good things. Keep it up and plz continue to post videos. If you have any suggestions for a relatively "new" detailer and tips on creating successful business, I would be happy to hear them. Thanks.

I can relate Matt, I obsess over the little details. I don't think it's a bad thing at all. As Larry shows it's just a matter of making sure it's what the customer wants. In my case I work on my own stuff as a hobby and I'm very picky so the only person I have to please is myself and sometimes I fail at that too :).

Great as always, I've also tried the chemical guys micro fibre pads as shown on this video, and they were awful, just fall to pieces!
Looking forward to trying the new Rupes micro fibre, with the good looking backing plate.

yeah for sure, if you got car thats going to need paint correction, is it worth going the whole foam thing,. to me, the foam lance is for keeping a perfect car , perfect! if your doing a full detail on a car then id hit it with APC like g101 or another citrus pre wash and just use the 2 bucket method. then paint correct it. then you look after it by going crazy with the foam etc. great vid larry. come to WAXSTOCK UK, coventry 27th july 2014

Man I've learned a lot, so many steps I've been missing completely or not doing long enough for full affect. Tomorrow my cars going to get a really good go over.
Hey what's your opinion on mothers 3 step polish/wax line? I've been using it and its saved my paint big time (previous owner never waxed the car and the whole passenger side clear coat was starting to fail, was all hazzy and dull) but I want to make sure its a product that's worth continuing to buy.

Definitely a fan of "do the job you're paid for." Not because other problems arise, but it's because the exception will become the expectation. You'll have people wondering why you included a service for someone else and not for them, or worse... you have a repeat customer that you did a little extra work for earlier and didn't do it again.

When you use soap with the clay bar, can you use any soap, or does it really matter? I agree that spending money on lubricant for the clay is crazy, but it's what i've always been told. If I can just use the same soap I use to wash my car with, it'll save me some $$.
    Let me know!

Awesome video. I have learned more than 50% of my detailing steps and processes from you, and continue to do so. Thanks for all your passion and dedication Larry. Where can I get more of those plush red microfiber towels that you send in your Ammo regiment kits? They are the best microfiber towels I have used hands down. Take care,

Larry you just earned extra props in my eyes by giving solid credit where credit is due to Mr. Buffdaddy himself Kevin Brown. You could have simply said I've done the Rupes washer mod, but I like that you mention Kevin in the video especially after the work he did in being one of the first to bring the bigfoot polishers to the US

What kind/brand of polish did you use? Its hard to find a polish that stays moist like the one you used on the 550.
