    I feel the same way. I own a 2022 Kia K5 in ebony black and the clear coat is super soft. I should’ve had it professionally ceramic coated to harden the paint a little more when i first got her in September last year. But I recently found my go to for her when it comes to paint correction. Precision P4 polish with a white pad by chemical guys is the perfect combination for these Kia’s/Hyundais.

    Excellent work. I manage to run into the same issues you've run into on many cars I work on. The hazing thing happens on my own car with almost every product I use. Interestingly enough, with cquk 3.0 I notice a hazing that won't come off, unless you let it set for a good while, then wipe it, and then it will finally come off. Owning a sof black paint car has really turned me into a good problem solver! 😄

    Just want to say I love watching you guys as a team tackle a car. Vids are awesome and informative. BUT this is what "my" life is. I am a Structural Inspector for the state of Florida. I am certified in ALL United States and I took my International license, So I am certified to do my job in 55 Countries as well. I studied hard and passed all my tests and I really like my job a lot. I am really good at it and I make Great money for my family.
    BUT I LOVE WASHING CARS and detailing. It brings me such satisfaction seeing something I did look so good. From dirty to clean. I am torn between wanting to detail cars for a living or stay at my Job "yes I am happy". You guys are great to watch. Such is life right?. Do something your really good at "Inspector" and make a good living or do something you LOVE and take a chance of making money some days "building a rep for yourself" and maybe some days not so much. Thanks again for the great vids. Love watching you 2!

I like the fact that you take different chems from different companies and use them with different pads and products. Your work is fantastic
    The CEO's of them companies are pulling there hair out, I love it. This just proves a point, you don't have to stick with Item A and match it with another Item A, you can use A and D or whatever.

    I fought soft black paint just last weekend. M205 and LC white pad removed defects but if I overworked the area and the polish dried, even a little, it would cloud. I ended up making another pass with HDO black finishing pad and sprayed the pad down with some quick detailer to reduce cut and open up work time. I tried sonax PF, but that just wouldn't finish down. The struggle on soft black paint is real...

    Full Detail jobs where a customer only wants wax… I’ll give a price. Paint correction jobs I’ll run through the wash prior to giving a price. I’ve learned my lesson when giving a price on the exterior only to wash it and find out it’s worse than I thought!! Hard for you since it’s getting hand washed. However on exotics like the Rolls Ghost I coated… I hand washed it and called the customer prior to agreeing to anything. Once they get a feel for me and read my reviews. They trust me.

    The dreaded soft black paint! Yikes!
    Menzerna 2500 and 4000 have always been able to keep me out in those situations in the past.
    Thankfully 3D AAT502 has been doing a great job finishing marr free on soft black paints. Sometimes 3D ONE can handle it too.
    We had a black Porsche last week with soft black paint. I was able to use my Porter Cable 7424xp, 3D ONE, and the blue Buff and Shine Grip pad on most of it. Some sections needed the strength of the green foam to remove the damage, but the green left its own mark on the paint.

    Great job Phil, how often do you change your pads when polishing and do you throw your microfiber towels away after leveling the coating?

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  2 роки тому +6

      Hi. On jobs like this will go through about 5 to 6 pads. We don’t throw the towels away we simply wash them and downgrade them to other areas of the vehicle. Or if they feel OK after washing will still use them on paint but not on polishing or ceramic coating jobs.

  • @AMP8424
    @AMP8424 2 роки тому +1

    Phil, did I hear you right? You said you use the Kirkland mf for coating removal with no problems? Even though they are an 80/20 blend you don't have any scratching or marring. Since we have to downgrade/throw towels away, I'm always looking for the cheapest/safest towel for coating removal. Spending $3-5 per towel sucks when you have to toss it/downgrade it.

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  2 роки тому +3

      Hi. Yup thats right. Its weird...I think some guys have had bad batches of towels, I know I have in the past. They felt crunchy and almost hard and I had to return them. A few batches get through quality control and some guys get them and right them off completely. But I wash them first, they fluff up better, then I just use a light touch leveling as we always do. We don't have any problems. 😎👍

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  2 роки тому +8

      Thanks! The softness or hardness of paint really just depends on the manufacture and where they get their chemicals from even within the same year and make and model the clearcoat can vary slightly. Sometimes you just never know. Some of the best paint that we’ve dealt with has actually been from Ford.

    Do you know if genesis and Hyundai have same soft paint as Kia as I got a genesis gv70 and it’s black and will be polishing it and coating it ?

      Hi. Not sure exactly because each year and model the paint changes slightly. But usually the black paint on those are on the softer side.

    Bummed to see this. I have a pearl white Kia Soul and to me, it’s the best paint (clear coat) I have ever worked with. But, I bought the car new and skipped the dealer prep. So it wasn’t even washed before leaving their lot.
    Taking care of it since day one, well…it’s all on me. I did a polish with P21s paint cleanser, and CarPro Essence. Coated with CQuartz UK 3.0 and topped with Gliss in July 2020. Soon, I’ll polish off the coating and try something new.
    Thanks for all your videos. 🤙🏻

      What tire cleaner are you using? I seem to be unable to get my Sprayer to Fan out like yours. I’m using the sprayer by “Chemical Guy’s”Even after adjusting the Sprayer Nozzle. It still doesn’t seem to want to fan out properly. Inquiring minds would like to know.

      I believe I had P&S APC in the IK foamer. I have the purple tip installed on it but I also installed a Schrader valve so that I can pump air into it with my air compressor. That makes a big difference also.

    Hello what do u mean by soft paint?

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  Рік тому +1

      Hi. Clear coat on vehicles come in varies thicknesses and depending on the clear coat manufacturer can be either hard or soft. It’s like hard or soft wood. Some wood is easy to cut and chop and other wood is very hard and difficult to split. When polishing or compounding it’s very similar to that analogy.

    I am a weekend warrior/enthusiast, my car is black tint coat on a subaru. totally soft paint, drives me crazy. A lot of work to maintain, yet also high risk of washing induced scratches. Proper method is everything. Outdoors 24/7, and may i ask, would Xtreme solutions Finisher be a good product to do a quick refresh of adams 7 year graphene coating? Thank you

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  2 роки тому +3

      Hi. Oh yeah Subaru paint is soft for sure.
      Not sure on using that polish on a coating. I would try CarPro Essence Plus first with a black soft pad. That is designed to “restore” coatings. It basically cleans the top surface of the coding and revives a little bit while adding its own SIO2.

  • @thinkforyourself5672

    Does anyone know what the difference is between ceramic paint coating and trim coating? I've always wondered. Is it less Sio2 in the trim formula, different carrier agents, cure time??

    • @chrissemsch8781
      @chrissemsch8781 2 роки тому +3

      Generally, different bonding agents (chemical that acts as an agent between the substrate(plastic/glass/clearcoat) and the “ceramic”). Usually it has less sio2 solids in it because it has to flex more with the plastic. Different bonding agents is especially prevalent in coatings designed for extreme heat(brake calibres, rims, exhaust tips).

    I would say this is your best video showing us the coating process. Real time applying and removal. That was cool. Now the polishing......oh boy....let's say you didn't have Dr. Beasleys (which I dont). Would you have been satisfied with LVR 403 and the job it did? Is it necessary to do a paint prep wipe after polishing after an hour? What if you had the time (24 hours) would you still paint prep wipe before coating? The 24 hour curing for the 403 and 404 Helios is very inconvenient!
    Man that was a good video showing how you tackle finicky paint. Lord knows I'll get some! Hi wife.

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  2 роки тому +2

      Hi. Thanks! Yeah this paint was annoying! But we made it work!! Yeah you could totally let the LVR 403 and 404 cure for 24h and then cost right over it with no Panel prep. I try not to have the vehicle in for any longer than we need. I would have to have it an extra day for that, and it would clog up our schedule. 😎👍🏼

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  2 роки тому +2

      With primer polishes like the Dr Beasleys NSP polishes there is no need to use a panel prep, in fact the NSP polishes are designed to use in this way. It helps the coating bond better. Pretty awesome stuff! I hope other companies get on and make primer polishes that require no panel prep, it would streamline the process and eliminate any risk when using a panel prep. 😎👍🏼
