I get it’s a British show first even though I’m an American but as one whotuber channel pointed out that the uk is heading into a heavy sports period and trying to simulcast it with the BBC 1 airing like they did with the anniversary specials and Christmas special probably wasn’t going to work to make it consistent across the board as far as when it releases due to the sports events possibly delaying it and as some have pointed out this isn’t a new thing for the BBC to do cause easterners would do a similar thing even though I didn’t really watch it when pbs had it so it not like is a new thing and at least they have a linear television way to watch it cause BBC America and ABC Australia for example lost the right to air it forcing international fans onto Disney+ that a lot of us fans probably can’t afford just to see it and their 60th anniversary celebration was better then what we got cause they got so much exclusive content Disney didn’t get all we got was the anniversary specials and the Christmas special and that’s it making the anniversary celebration feel lackluster internationally
Honestly I think this is a prioritization of the UK market with the midnight release. It's a prestigious time for movie events and they treat certain TV shows like movies now If America was getting the priority, it'd be dropping at midnight New York time
Personally, the new release schedule works perfectly for me (NYC time) yet this show is fundamentally British at it's core. I'd have been totally fine with it airing around 3pm for us to make an 8pm airtime on BBC One on Saturday nights as it always has. That said, I can also understand why Disney would be very hesitant to release a show in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday. It's very unlikely many Americans would be able to watch at that time.
