- Awesome race! Thanks to GDQ for having us.
Games Done Quick is a semiannual video game speedrun charity marathon held in the United States, originally organized by the Speed Demos Archive and Speedruns Live communities. Since 2015, it has been handled by Games Done Quick, LLC. In the summer, there is Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) and in the winter there is Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ). The events are broadcast live on Twitch. Viewers are encouraged to donate for incentives during the stream such as selecting the file name or main character's name in a run, having the runners attempt more difficult challenges, and entering raffles for the chance of winning prizes. Over $22.5 million has been raised across 24 marathons. I am proud to have been part of some of these marathons: I ran Pokemon Yellow at Awesome Games Done Quick 2016, participated in a Pokemon Red 4 man race at Summer Games Done Quick 2016.

Pokémon Gold Version and Pokémon Silver Version were the first core series games of Generation II for the Game Boy Color. Unlike earlier games, Pokémon Gold and Silver take place in the Johto region, west of the region that the original games take place in, Kanto. However, Kanto can be traveled to later in the games. Pokemon Gold and Silver were followed shortly by a solitary version with minor changes, Pokémon Crystal, as well as remakes two generations later in the form of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver for the Nintendo DS. The games were released on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console on September 22, 2017. The Current World Record for the Any% Glitchless speedrun is 3 hours, 13 minutes and 46 seconds by Gunnermaniac. Any% Glitchless means that you beat the game as fast as possible, without using glitches. Feraligatr is used in the Pokemon Gold Speedrun, as it evolves early, has great stats and can learn great moves moves.

I remember playing silver version as a kid, and man that miltank and rollout made me cry 🤣🤣🤣🤣
If they allowed trainers to shoot Pokémon that would be the one I choose 😂😂😂
I'm not alone
Think everyone suffered there as a kid 😂I mean, unless you knew about the machop trade, you realistically had nothing to 2 shot that Miltank with.
"Okay children cover your ears we're facing Haunters and they like to CURSE alot." 😂 That made me legitimately laughed out loud.
Legitimately one of the least funny 'jokes' I've ever heard

@@awenner good for you
Dude I don’t know wtf is going on but I appreciate the fact that they are trying to explain what is going on.
Basically they were manipulating mechanics inside the game to make certain things happen. Think of resetting a game over and over to get a certain outcome you like. That's a poor man's explanation for ya

The comedic relief's shot in the dark attempt at a Pyukumuku cry was actually really close at 3:12:42.
This is essentially a run with decent luck vs an unlucky one. Gunner definitely played better overall but also got luckier with flinches, crits etc, especially in the first hour or so
Can u explain to me why pokeguy reset the game twice ? When they pick pokemon
@@moonshot4593they are trying to manipulate the random number generator in an anticipatable way so that they can get one of two Totodiles that are viable for the run. He reset cuz he missed the key input to get it
Loved the couch dynamic. The jokes were so bad but so much fun.
Thanks for posting this guys, was fun to watch.

I watched 32:58 like 100 times over because the Totodile on PG’s screen and the Kakuna on GM’s screen came out at the exact same time.
I slowed it down and it's frame perfect. That's fucking wild.
So cool 😎

I remembered doing it the old school way with a hard reset for a perfect EV started. Took me six freaking hours. This would have been a lifesaver back in the days, but the internet was dial-up, and youtube didn't exist.

It’s weird how slow the hp goes down. It’s like scary waiting to see if it’s a KO
with all those manips I wonder how they can so freely proclaim this as one of the easier pokemón runs to get into speedrunning with
Hi zack it’s me
I am doing a manipless run and it is considerably easier. RBY you need to learn the nido manip but with GS it isn't needed. They have a manipless category now.
seems like only totodile & master ball are really necessary
Easy is subjective, the minips aren't demanding on a technical level and it isn't as likely to just destroy you with rng like say sapphire, but it isn't as straight forward as some of the later games but is less reliant on rng as the later games without the minips.
amazing run, glad to see you at GDQ gunner!
Favorite battle?
Top 2 are Shorts trainer in Gen 1 and the Keckleon Steven fight where Steven calls our battle style intruiging

Had no idea what GDQ was checked this out while I couldn't sleep. The big guy was by far the best part, followed by Gunner and his participation. Pokeguy seemed a bit out of it (understandably with how rough his run was) and he did get better as it went on. But man The announcer and Swaph? Really made this whole vid watchable Get Gunner, Swaph, and the announcer on another speed run and I will watch the whole thing again. Lookin' forward to more on your channel.
Gunner could easily solo carry the commentary and keep it interesting, but agreed.
Best battle music. Gold Vs Red. No contest.
Completely agree!
For the favorite cry, Kricketune
DELELEWOOOOOOOP
the announcers for this are like 4x better than the people who do league of legends. I went from thinking this was dumb to being pretty riveted and vaguely understanding the hardcore competitive side of it. Also I loved that it was the players themselves commentating
Gotta be honest: GUnnermaniac is really good at it (commentating and playing at once)
you're listening to the wrong league casters
and Gunnermaniac sounds like Synderen from DotA 2, very informative and sounds good doing it
Dude that master ball trick is dope asf in the lottery, you should do a solo video on how to get that from the lotto
The "none of them have chaos emeralds" underlying commentary was brilliant and went unappreciated. I'm here to appreciate it. :D
imagine if the sound was playing from both players lol
That Hyperbeam was super effective!!!
That’s why in the new games they made it weak because in the first 3 gen games it was like the most powerful move
Manip. Everytime he says that manip it has me cracking up
I feel bad for pokeguy, he had a rough start that set him back for the rest of the run
That's an issue with so many complex manipulations, if one thing goes wrong it loses a lot of time. I guess it's a lesser of two evils thing since the alternative would be to be subjected to RNG (that may be better for a marathon race, imo).
Normally they would just reset when they don't hit those manips. But that doesn't work in a race so yeah that really sucks. There is a reason all the manips are early on in the run. Would be hella frustrating if you were to miss a manip 3 hours in.
Just enjoy the vid instead of feeling bad for stuff you shouldn't feel bad about
@@blablabla12a just enjoy the video instead of complaining about people voicing their opinions in the comments? Now you see how moronic your statment was?
@@edxander7169 Maybe read it in another tone? This doesn't even seem like a complaint, more an upper, like... Just enjoy the vid instead of feeling bad for stuff you shouldn't feel bad about, you know? Why ruin the entertainment of the video over something so small :)

WOW
"I could never be a medium... I'm an XL." 😂😂😂
3:28:16 ouch. Pokeguy trying to break the ice but the Gunner wasn't having it lol.
Snivy's the best starter because you can name it Sir Pent.
1:04:19 That jolteon was insane
Its cool that they got Danny McBride
Lol
I love how they know exactly what to do and what is the fastest way
Special attacking moves include eevee evolution + dragon type
Dude on the couch sounds EXACTLY like Danny McBride
Jynx at 3:21:50 god help me
The country guy on the couch is hilarious and reminds me of Danny McBride 😂
To get a lottery masterball in a speedrun, I wish I had such luck irl
Edit: Nevermind, just heard that was a manipulation
lol same thing i had my jaw open then he mentioned the manipulation lol
"Glitchless"
You mean a manip lol
Arjun Singh It’s not a glitch, they just know what/when to press to make the (not-so-random) RNG generate a favorable outcome. It’s no different than timing a triple 7 on the slots.
The announcer man lol I couldn’t do those damn Pokémon noises lmao
Take a shot every time the bench of cringe made you skip forward

shiny mega gengar. yes
I cant even finished this game in 1 day yet they did it in 3 hours?
But they'd spend days resetting halfway through runs until they get a run all the way until the end.
I haven't seen anyone mention the 2:16:41 smooth transition so here is it.
Great run!
Also, the announcer lady seemed awesome... singing the songs, doing the voices... shoutout to her!
The donations during the final battle was a little annoying to me though.
They were remarkably close at the end all things considered. Luck had a lot to do with the outcome.
Primarily, Pokeguy messed up the starter manipulation which staggered him a bit, but yes, overall, Pokeguy got very unlucky
1:57:15 It helps to realize hot dog(typically a frankfurter but sometimes a bratwurst etc depending on who likes to get technical at their grill outs) is to hoagie is to Rueben is to hamburger...in a sense. The name of a sandwich not including 'sandwich' in the name doesn't make something not a sandwich. Generally anything, anything at all, put between two slices of or in the split center of any bread is a sandwich. There are many subcategories of sandwiches, too, so depending on the bread used and the interpretation of the crafter many things can be made a sandwich; I mean you got wraps, hoagies, burgers, banh mi, gyros, sliders, tortas, rolls, po' boys, muffaletta and even various biscuit sandwiches.
Yea do more races
To this day, it still Ps me off that the Pokemon Centre wench HOPES to see us again.
Can you imagine being the player in the game that has to walk, battle, shop, swim, bike, heal, socialize, battle champions, go through caves and tunnels, and go on a train and ferry all in 3 hours? Fuck that lol
I always wondered how a croc turned into a gator lol.
Childhood relieved
What the fuck are you guys complaining about? The couch was very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Can we take a moment to realize that pokeguy got destroyed by rng and it wasn’t even fair lol
That's pokemon for ya
Anyone willing to answer why GDQ didn't upload this run and some of the others from the final day on their UA-cam channel?
Good question
They just didn't upload it yet, it will be soon
i remember how a very few of the final edits were uploaded like 2 months after they were done last time.
Most get uploaded in a week, some get released 3 weeks after with "heavily?" editing and some just appear later.
But in some time, everything will be on.
I still wait for TAS BOT and all AwefulGDQ Games.
Beacuse uploading a +3 hours or a +9 hour video takes alot of time
at one point i thought the table was pokeguy's legs
the cringe at the pokemon theme song XD
The love is the STRENGHT
you can fly to rock tunnel pokemon centre in red and blue
Can’t in this game unfortunately :/
I wondered why Pokeguy was behind the whole time. 2 fails =\ If the 2nd fail didnt happen this would have been a fun watch but the whole time it felt like Gunner was so far ahead that it wasnt competitive.
Idk but its funny seeing that especially with how much he tries to back seat game on gunners stream and how much he acts like a douche. Boy needs to sit down.
He lost more or less 5 minutes at the start with rng based things (poke aggro/crits coming from enemies or not coming by his pokemons) on the other hand Gunnermaniac had a very good run (rly good rng with pokemon aggros and good crits). But I think he still would have won the run because at some point pokeguy didn't managed to dodge one guy and had to fight an extra battle. At first he was 4 min behind and at the end it was more like 7 min.
They started that the reason why Gunner is choosing to battle the bridge trainer at 20:00 is as he needs to l.12 for watergun before the cave.
However Pokeguy is already l.12 and chooses to battle the same trainer, why?
They were both level 12, and got watergun after the fight, when levelling up to 13.
That master ball lottery... squealed my ass off
Does anyone know what set up they are using so that this can be played with a Gameboy Advance Sp but also be streamed to the recording?
The SP is only a controller, the game feed is being captured from a gamecube gameboy player.
@@Gunnermaniac i enjoy your speedrunning commentary man. Makes it fun to watch
Shiiit the how long to beat your first Pokémon game, I wouldn’t even know. My first was Yellow. I just remember my older brother did some school project and had to draw family members, and his drawing depicting me was laying on his stomach with his feet up with a gameboy in front of his face. Labeled “gamefreak”, for obvious reasons haha
Also with Pidgeot being most underrated, I made sure to have one in every team in all the early games as a kid.. love pidgeot. And then Swellow was a must in ruby and sapphire.
