    Pokémon LeafGreen and FireRed are the first remakes in the Pokémon franchise. The games revisit the original pair of Pokémon games, Pokémon Red, Blue and Green Versions. The remakes feature the characters, plot elements, and challenges from the originals, along with several updates introduced in Generation 3. For speedrunning purposes, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen are considered to be the same category. Any% Glitchless means that you beat the game as fast as possible, without using glitches. Blastoise is the Pokemon that is used for this speedrun.

    how hard is the rng manipulation for getting the starter? that seems like the most precise and important part of the run

    • @Gunnermaniac
      @Gunnermaniac  3 роки тому +11

      The starter manip is quite difficult. First you have to choose the Squirtle you are going for. The game runs at 60 fps and a new Squirtle exists every frame. Then you have to track NPC movement because this alters the RNG. Then, when selecting Squirtle you have to hit a 1/60 frame which is 16,67 milliseconds.

It is really insane to watch and as a casual speedrun viewer I never understood what are behind the scene. Now I understand better, and realize how much you @Gunnermaniac and Pokeguy are so much talented ! I would have two questions :
    - How many runs did you have to get this excellent RNG all along this run to Lorelei ? Because we watch on the timer that you can still save 1 minute that you lost on Lorelei RNG, so is that realizable from your opinion ?
    - Why Leafgreen version over Firered ? You did not explain that during your video.

    Idea: Does the dept store sell PP Ups? Probably not but my thought process is youve seemed very concerned with the amount of moves youd have available during your splits. Things like megakick and pulse mostly. Since shopping there is part of your strat anyway an extra pickup can make you "safer" on long splits.
    You would hate to kill an awesome run by the simple die rolls making you miss kick 1 too many times.
    If there isnt one in the dept store look up hidden tiles. You seem really good at memorizing hidden tiles for candies, ethers, antidotes, and restore. Memorize a couple of good spots not too far from your route. Could make the difference.

    • @jamham9000
      @jamham9000 3 роки тому +15

      The gen 3 remakes are a lot more polished than the original generation, so the AI is a lot different. Also, Nidoking's moveset was changed. Furthermore, (don't think I said that to make me look smart, I just didn't want to say "also" a second time) the "Special" stat was switched to "Special defense" and "Special attack." Another reason is a lot of the moves used in the speedrun are harder to get in the remakes. Gen 1 Nidoking uses ice beam by giving the girl at the top of Celadon department store a drink (can't remember which one), and the same goes rock slide, and Surge gives shockwave instead of thunderbolt. The "X Accuracy" item was changed. In gen 1, it turned all moves to infinite accuracy, but in gen 2 and onwards, that was fixed, making horn drill less viable. Gunner or Bulbapedia could probably tell you more though.
      Edit: I hope you meant "slow for the speedrun" and not "why does he have a bad speed stat," because if it was about his stat, I just wasted my time.

    • @Gunnermaniac
      @Gunnermaniac  3 роки тому +7

      A huge reason is because you can't get him until after Route 3, where you already basically have a Wartortle. It just isn't even close to competitive.

    42:49 wow that’s insane. The odds of getting it on the first can you get, AND the 2nd one on the next can you check is a 1/210 chance. Or less than a 0.5% chance.
    EDIT: okay wow 1:50:23 is so much worse. Dude literally gets crit + paralysis in one turn, crit again the next turn, then ANOTHER crit the turn after that. 3 crits in a row plus a 30% paralysis is literally a 1/13,652 chance... or a 0.007% chance of that happening. Meaning you’re more likely to get a damn shiny Pokémon in 1 try then get those odds. My god what is that luck

    He used the word "torrent" a lot. What does that mean?

    • @Gunnermaniac
      @Gunnermaniac  3 роки тому +8

      When a Pokémon with Torrent uses a Water-type move, the move's power will be increased by 50% if the user has less than or equal to ⅓ of its maximum HP remaining.

    Why did you talk to the old man for the pokeball training? Isn’t that optional?
    Also did you ever calculate the unchangeable time in a run? Aka the chat text, animations to start a battle, etc? Or do you have a rough hour or % estimate? Curious how much is in a player’s hands and luck based
    And wow I assumed the trainer next to misty was mandatory
    How does the last trainer in victory road not see you lmao

    • @Gunnermaniac
      @Gunnermaniac  3 роки тому +2

      No that's not optional. Nah I have no idea, but there's a TON of variance in the run

    So am i correct in understanding that to get the right squirtle in the begining you need to do a frame perfect input with no audio cue? Or is there a window of multiple frames that will produce the same squirtle? I find it difficult to understand how a frame perfect input would be done with little reference for when to do it.

    • @CherryBlossomStorm
      @CherryBlossomStorm 3 роки тому +1

      It is frame perfect bit he does have an audio cue. Not sure why it's not audible in the video

    I think you did good decision making in the first part of the run, combined with good luck, to get way ahead. Towards the end a finger slip cost you some time, and - in hindside - a few decisions were suboptimal. But you managed to play it quite safe and pull home the WR anyway, despite the pressure you start to feel and the frustration from the mistakes you start to make. I think you can be happy with this run, but I understand you are not completely satisfied.

    What’s the reason for not using Nidoking like in red and blue? And using blastoise instead?

    • @Gunnermaniac
      @Gunnermaniac  3 роки тому +4

      Nidoking is generally terrible for the speedrun compared to gen 1, but the obvious reason is because by the time you can catch a level 6 Nidoran on route 3 (much later than gen 1) you already pretty much have a Wartortle.
