Chris, If you use a non-woven geotextile (needle punched and heat fused polypropylene) you will find that it allows water to flow horizontally across the structure. It is superior to woven tape geotextile for drainage both vertically (gravity) and horizontally (wicking). I really enjoy your videos. Thanks.

an old fashioned culvert, shallow trench across the driveway, then since you have it, fabric along the trench, some of the bigger rock, fold fabric over then do the fabric and rock / fill on the driveway. the trench will allow more water across to a lower level than the driveway swale, the fabric and rock in it will keep it from getting silted in.
I hate that fabric when we have to fix driveways with it. Here is a few months you will have to fix that right and deal with the fabric peeling out all over. Wish you would have told him you need to cut some ditches first with the grader and used that to build up the road. Would have lost some crop ground but it would have dried out in a few days. Then you could have tailgated a bunch of gravel on it and used the grader to smooth and pack. You have an awesome grader for this.

Great video 👍. I’ve just never understood why people want to build back so far from the road without first putting in a proper drive way. It’s not like you would not be planning on driving up and down it multiple times a day. Looks like that would be a first priority , because stone trucks or construction vehicles will still end up coming and going over the years.
At least the road got some good compaction I would like to see how it holds up this time I did the same thing on my road minus the big rock going through a bad clay spot and it has held up really well going on about 3 years now see you in the next one
People always budget for the house out in a field but they never budget for a good road out to it. Depending on conditions and length you could spend thousands putting in a decent driveway.
@@broc212 haha... for sure. My favorite is so and so will do it for half that much, so I tell them to have them do it and when you call me a couple months later it's going to cost even more because I'm going to have to clean up that mess too. There's definitely the right way to do it and then there's the cheap way to do it.
Curious how much doing a road out to a house in the woods correctly like this would actually cost? Just that amount of rock and fabric plus machine and operator had to be a couple grand.
Imo that first layer is too small. Dig it out and back fill with demolition waste, big chunks of concrete and kerbstone. Then top it with whatever you want cos it ain't going nowhere. Best roads I've built were done like that.

4 in 1 bucket until you operate one for many hours you have know idea what your missing. Lite dozer, grabbing/lifting, working alone, stripping grass, cutting 1-2",spreading material. Spent over 10,000 hrs with one what a blessing. I could remove the hat from your head and set it on the ground pick it back up and put it back on your head. It was not til I started watching others use equipment that my approach was wrong (ranchwork/ag) with a sub compact tractor. I have learned how to finess to get desired results. What’s a rough estimate on skid steer work like this per hour or do you charge by the job?
If it's like our company it depends on the job
@@williamuskoski1385 Well that was informative.
In southern ok bucket work is usually 100 an hr mulching work is 150 ish per hour. Some more some less.

35 an hour wouldn’t even cover a union labor for 1 man and a rake
