Chris, you have such a deft touch with your equipment, I guess it's from years of using them, or maybe you are just a gifted operator, but it's a pleasure to watch your work.
For those unsure what the red device is that Chris is using at 19:16, it's what is know in the industry as a "Shoo-V-Well". It's a Specialist tool only used by the most careful Craftsman, and it is shaped by hand to allow it to be used for fitting pipes into the ground, and moving things in a way that amplifies the merest twitch of the human fingers into precise changes in soil and yay, the very rocks of the earth! You know that an Operater has arrived at the pinnacle of his career when you see the blessed moment when he is advanced enough in his skills to be entrusted with his very own Shoo-V-Well by the Keeper of the Tools at the Blessed Home Depot.
Nice job boys, looks a whole lot better. Hope they don’t slice the top of the pipe again when mowing!! See you on the next job boys. All the best. Graham🇬🇧🇬🇧
Watching you operate equipment like its an extension of your arm is like an art. I repair a fleet of equipment with about 30 operators, and none of them can operate like you. Like I said before, come to ohio and I will hire you.. I need final grading done and a creek 6" pipe exit fixed. Cant find anyone local worth a crap.
Among the things I like about letsdig is he doesn't have the ego that demands his face in 75 to 90% of his videos. God some of these videos makers must think they are the best looking thing ever happened.
I was going to say about the same. A couple of fiberglass yellow posts with plastic flags to mark the end of the pipe. Maybe 1/2'' flex whips. (driveway markers)
Looks like that swale could eventually utilize a shallow French drain down the center to help dry up the surrounding field. Utilize pea gravel mixed with a little bit of topsoil on the surface to maintain a grass layer.
My Kubota excavator had a similar thumb to your mini. I ended up cutting the ends off and welded up a 4 tine setup. Found it way better for grubbing off sites and grabbing smaller roots and branches.
I know you must operate the boom, bucket, thumb and tracks without looking but it would be interesting to have a camera angle that lets us (me) watch your hands and the bucket at the same time. I am somewhat in awe of the orchestrated rhythm you develop on the job as every thing seems to work seamlessly without any wasted moves.
someone donate him a gopro and a suction cup mount so he can have split screen/cycle screen shots in his videos or dont he probably has money to buy that kind of stuff...¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sometimes, Ya just gotta knock the Hell out of it a few times to make things work !! Lololol... Great as always Chris !! Have a Great Evening...Stay Safe !!
Another suggestion make the pipe a foot or two longer in the pond so the mower guy doesn't hit it again if he does he would greater issues. I enjoy the videos, Chris
Watching you doing the precision work you do makes me wonder... you could be a surgeon or at the least a wonderful cake decorator. LOL Great video! Tim is a monster with that grapple... lots of practice and access to great mentorship.
I don't know how many people have but I've been watching Tim some over the months and if I ever get the chance I've got a free coffee for him along with Chris. Tim's becoming a regular beast. Couldn't help noticing him wrangle that pile of brush like a pro.
Wow, you almost wore the label off of the leaning laborer support device! Where I used to work, the laborer's leaning support had a perfect label and shining paint.
Nice job man as usual ty for sharing. I bet they'll spray round up around barns now. Or weed wack it. Funny how everyone tellin u put a post by drain LOL. Like yeah homeowner's can
Thanks for saying “Concrete”. Having worked in the industry I can’t tell you how it irritates me to hear people say cement when what they really mean is Concrete. I’m not surprise coming from someone in the construction trades, well done.
It doesn’t matter where you are in the United States the soil may be different but if it’s a farm it looks the same. I wonder how much broken down machinery is in the tall grass or in the weeds or the woods. LOL. My son worked for a farmer because he was a friend of his son for a few weekends during the summer the tractor had one flat tire in the front which they didn’t fix the tractor wouldn’t start so they parked it on the ramp by the barn and the steering wheel had to be turned almost halfway around before it would steer and then the farmer looking for a piece of machinery he left on the side of the field the previous fall ran over the implement and blew out some tires on his truck. My son said I can’t believe this and I said he’s a farmer. Edit: My son mentioned everything was held together with bailing wire I forgot that little tidbit.
Hey Chris, Love watching your fun and games! Good to see you have a skid steer with a 4 in 1 bucket in America, Why don't you go the next step and build yourself a spreader/leveling bar which you can grab with 4 in 1 and you would find leveling and spreading materials so much quicker and easier.
Shovels are so versatile, you can use it as a hammer, a hatchet, a spear, a rake, an impromptu "tripod." Heck, there ain't much you can't do with a shovel. 😁
Chris, could you get a thumb made for the mini like the bigger machines that has a tooth in between each bucket tooth? Would it be of any value for this type of clearing?
I'm always surprised they don't allign the bucket teeth on all the buckets so they can make a good interlocking thumb too. The thumb on the Volvos is really nice although I always think it moves kind of slow.
When is a shovel a hammer? Answer @ 20:08. LOL You should upsell the owner on the notion of armoring the drain to protect it from future such damage. coffer dam (scrap piece of 36-48 inch plastic culvert, trimmed to fit); rebar, pipe or other serious steel anchor driven vertically (total length ~ 6ft, top about 3 inches below the inlet); backfill with vibrated concrete; paint as appropriate. If you wanna be fancy or if you think an idiot-strike is likely with a mower, reinforce with chicken or hog wire -- inside perimeter wrap with chicken wire; flat stacks of hogwire; everything tied well together. Assembling the reinforcement will be a pita, but the end product should last dang near forever. It might be a bit more complicated to do, but an "inverted, truncated cone" with rounding from the top onto the slope might provide better protection against bush hog strikes. If there's fish in the pond, have the owner consider installing something like a jib crane, to swing a bug light out over the pond (and back in, for maintenance/replacement); underground wiring in PVC or similar conduit; the main pole could also mount a security light, camera, etc. Just an idea: you'd be amazed at how many fish can eat from just a few relatively-cheap (
Interesting video Mr. Dig. Just curious, you never said what that red stick thing is that you used on the pipe is called. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you use one of them before. If you don’t know the name for it perhaps they call it a hammer thingee. Best wishes and stay dry.

Got a bit out of breath there, with that small shovel Chris. Your not out of condition are you Chris ?😉👏👏👏👍🇬🇧 Thanks for the Video , really enjoy them . Very well filmed and edited by you 👍👏👏👏👏
I'm in great shape I've been working in construction for 10 years it doesn't matter what shape your in it's plain simple getting old sucks my elbows knees are all bad locking up most of the time it seams each day they are getting worse
Watched the county road department guys mow the tops off two pipeline markers last summer along the edge of the road even though they were both clearly taller than the weeds being mowed ! I just shook my head 😂😭😭😭😭
OK, I'm going to put my hand up and admit it took me a few seconds to work out why you were not using the thumb to lift the concrete out of the pond at 18:30. 🤦
also have a suggestion maybe have a 1x1 fence area around it would help keep it from maybe being mowed over again but that's urs and there call to make
Back inn the 1960'swhen that pipe system first came out, you were supposed to chamfer the edge of the male end of the pipe so that the straight part of the male pipe didn't act like a windshield wiper and wipe all of the solvent cement out of the female fitting. And cause the pipe to jam up and leak.
Tim come to Birmingham! I need to move a few cows mow the lawn fertilize the pasture go to Florida and get some hay and well then there is the honey do list
Better than most Hollywood productions Chris, please keep them coming, we need entertainment right now! Thanks
Love your videos, @19:35 I won’t lie, was hoping to see Tim laugh if you fell in.
Your an expert operator with a great outlook on everything you do
I enjoy the plumbing struggles the most on the this channel

Those root grapples are really nice. I have used that Wet-R-Dry glue several times. The kind I got you didn't need primer.
Another great job Chris..!!
Nice job boys, looks a whole lot better. Hope they don’t slice the top of the pipe again when mowing!! See you on the next job boys. All the best. Graham🇬🇧🇬🇧
Loving these daily videos! Excellent job, as usual!🙂

You make it look so easy Chris 👍
Every tool looks like a hammer!!!!
Just a suggestion. but putting a "T" post painted orange next to that overflow pipe might prevent another mowing accident.
I was going to say about the same. A couple of fiberglass yellow posts with plastic flags to mark the end of the pipe. Maybe 1/2'' flex whips. (driveway markers)
I was thinking same thing
2 T-posts, one on each side.
Big rocks are free though, and most are smart enough to not try to mow those.
Your so right but #&$%&$ you know

His mini is a red Yanmar, this is his uncles... he has his own LetsDig18 branded thumbs and buckets from AMI attachments!

I agree. That would be great.
When you operate any thing long anuff you become one with it .
It's not a art but then again it is.
Yeah, a cab view split screen in the normal outside view.
@@heithdotysadventures7824 that's it exactly. It just becomes an extension of your arms and hands. I just call it "the flow."
someone donate him a gopro and a suction cup mount so he can have split screen/cycle screen shots in his videos

Drive a steel post next to the overflow and put a piece of 2" pvc pipe over the post. We mark tile outlets that way.
00:15 to 00:17 this man used his machine to point to which he was speaking. Dudes a legend lol

Always enjoying Chris' videos and reading all the wild comments lol!!
Tim's operated that grapple a time or 2!
Looking nice around there you do great work
Better watch it, tim might take over your job cuz he is doing a great job with that skidsteer
I don't know how many people have but I've been watching Tim some over the months and if I ever get the chance I've got a free coffee for him along with Chris. Tim's becoming a regular beast. Couldn't help noticing him wrangle that pile of brush like a pro.

Looking good chris nice job putting the pipes there.
Nice job man as usual ty for sharing. I bet they'll spray round up around barns now. Or weed wack it. Funny how everyone tellin u put a post by drain LOL. Like yeah homeowner's can
More proof that every tool has a hammer end.
Every tool can be used as a hammer but a hammer can’t be used for every tool
You handle the shovel with such professionally.
As ever great day great job 👍
If they keep mowing it, would it not be better about a foot or so out into the pond or would that just end up with it snapping off eventually?
right, OR cut the shore back there away from the pond would be the same difference .
I'll third that solution. That's exactly what I was thinking... Cut the bank back a little or extend the pipe out and that won't happen again.
I like how you pick up little pieces with the thumb like you are picking up a dime from the table.
That's control. 👍
I like the little ditch👍
Thanks for saying “Concrete”. Having worked in the industry I can’t tell you how it irritates me to hear people say cement when what they really mean is Concrete. I’m not surprise coming from someone in the construction trades, well done.
Look like a fish out of water with a hand shovel.... lol good video
Just tap it in, just give it a little tappy, tap tap taparoo!!
You are very skilled with that mini! I bet you could tie your shoes with that grapple. Nice job!
How are you doing down there with the virus? I'm up in NJ and we're already past 50. Stay safe and stay healthy everyone!
Im fine, I stay away from people and work/ live in the country
That swivel bucket is the shit!

Enjoyed the video bro. Ya both stay safe up your way
Personally I think the world would be a happier place if everyone owned a Yanmar.
I can only imagine all the "Yanmar parking only" signs I would be seeing everywhere.
Yeah but imagine family conflicts, school massacres..
The only family conflicts would be.......Hey, It's My Turn!!!!!

He's good at playing with sticks all day
Chris, could you get a thumb made for the mini like the bigger machines that has a tooth in between each bucket tooth? Would it be of any value for this type of clearing?
You do a fantastic team job.
I am going to get you to decorate my next birthday cake with the mini.
Some good shovel hammering . Dam good.
Listening to the mud being dropped, reminds me of the chicken a la king being dropped on plate at the mess hall.
Needed a warning sign saying no muppets mow here lol
Do you like that thumb on the mini. It does not seem like it grabs good. To big a space in the middle.
not really but its the only kind that works with all the other buckets
I'm always surprised they don't allign the bucket teeth on all the buckets so they can make a good interlocking thumb too. The thumb on the Volvos is really nice although I always think it moves kind of slow.

Hey Chris, how bout a link to where you got your swivel bucket?
You should park the mini next to the 250. Then the doubters can see the 250 does have a 54” bucket.
When you was banging on that pipe I could picture it cracking. I no it's tough pipe but things happen ya know. Keep da vids coming boss!!!
Just drive a wooden pole into the ground next to the inlet and paint it white or so. That way you can easily find it and it won't be mowed over.
Putting an extra foot of pipe on it would off kept it away from the mower.
Watched the county road department guys mow the tops off two pipeline markers last summer along the edge of the road even though they were both clearly taller than the weeds being mowed ! I just shook my head 😂😭😭😭😭
To prevent further mowing accidents with the pipe, it seems like it could have simply been extended out further into the pond.
then it will try to float up
@@letsdig18 And get by the boat
Chris
See you should borrowed some of those matts from the sawmill. When they show back up might have time to dry out. 🤔😁
OK, I'm going to put my hand up and admit it took me a few seconds to work out why you were not using the thumb to lift the concrete out of the pond at 18:30. 🤦
haha only tilt with that bucket
correct me if im wrong, but didnt yall buy a new yanmar mini with a cab?> where the hell is it at lol
What’s that green stuff in the trees? We still have snow in Michigan. Getting warmer by the week now. 50 degrees today. Love the content.
big thumbs up for the skid steer grab
watching this on full screen had me smelling the mud as you cut the swail across the field
Why no post beside drain so people realise something there?
also have a suggestion maybe have a 1x1 fence area around it would help keep it from maybe being mowed over again but that's urs and there call to make
Just watching and waiting for you to disturb a yellow jacket nest. If I was doing that, I definitely would.
I saw the first wasp activity of the year about an hour ago, in TX. Won't be long before they are all over the place.
Ugh I hate those ground nests. I just park my mower on them for 5 minutes to clear it up.
It wouldn't be job security if they put a T post in.
One of the best comments hehe.
@@ut000bs how is ur reply before the comment?!?
19:30 you know you can’t PRE glue it. It starts to setup fast.
yeah but not in less than a minute
I wouldn't do that in a house, but that pond isn't going to leak out that joint even if it didn't have any glue at all.
Back inn the 1960'swhen that pipe system first came out, you were supposed to chamfer the edge of the male end of the pipe so that the straight part of the male pipe didn't act like a windshield wiper and wipe all of the solvent cement out of the female fitting. Chris Gordon I always have but that’s a good reason why it’s done, thanks
Attaboy 7:00
Chris, how did you get into shovel operation? Did you start working and training with a company? Or did you start your own business right off the bat?
Great job
I also vote for vertically placing a short length of 4x4 post beside the elbow as a stop.
😲 so the shovel does fit his hands!
Like the “wrist” for the Yanmar bucket!
Awesome video thank you
Concrete up to the end and around of the 90 would help prevent a repeat of it getting broken!
Could you drive a couple of T post on each side to keep from being hit again?
This is probably the weirdest things I've ever said but when you use that yanmar it sounds like a little hydraulic symphony. Weirdly relaxing.
i would of put a t in there and up top put 6ft of pipe sticking up and paint it orange to help with visibility and as a vent for the overflow!
I mowed over lol oooh u forgot to burn the wood lol
You have great control of that grading bucket, you make it look so easy …but it’s not…!
Awesome video enjoyed it
@19:35 you now know how Tim feels when you're holding the camera and he is struggling Lol.
I'd sure like me one of those to clean up the buckthorn on my property.
That was fun to watch
Nice one
Why not extend it further out into the pond?
Good stuff, I’m getting bored every thing round the house is done. I’ll be down to help ya out👍!!!
Tim come to Birmingham! I need to move a few cows mow the lawn fertilize the pasture go to Florida and get some hay and well then there is the honey do list
I guess the 250 would be overkill for this clearing😁
Chris...... You don't need a trash guard over the pipe entrance?
wouldnt be a bad Idea but only grass no real trash to flow in and clog it
