Thank you so much for posting this video and the detailed information. We've had the same problem and this solution solved it. Truly appreciate your time making this and sharing with others!
I found that wasn't the problem with mine, although one is stiffer than the other. Take the cover off the roller and remove the roller. Check for hair build-up on the very end of the roller. Mine is a month old and had a mass of hair stuck there. No problems after removing it.
Brilliant! After taking apart the bottom roller completely and cleaning out all the hair and debris, I still had error 2. After seeing your video, I removed the two side brushes, added 100% silicone lube and put the brushes back on. Now the machine runs perfectly. No babysitting necessary!
So many comments which is awesome! Stubbled on this video searching for some parts. Most of what I read hits right on the money so I may be repeating a lot. Everyone may be affected by a different part of the over all issue with vacuums. Build up of dirt. I've been repairing, selling and buying many versions for the last couple years. This issues can cause you a couple errors like #2 (shark). The Main causes are: - Dirty sensors. -Stuck/not freely moving bumper. - Dirty/old side rotating brushes. The motor and cylinder crevice is dirty/clogged, slowing the brushes causing resistance. - Dirty/old rolling brush. The motor and cylinder crevice is dirty/clogged, slowing the rolling brush causing resistance. -Dirty wheels and wheel wells causing resistance. -The most obvious is stuck items in these areas. Clean your sensors often as they cause the most malfunctions. I have self empty robots so usually do it when emptying the base. It really depends on the cleaning environment . I have dogs so more often is better. I have no issues with my scheduled cleanings by doing this. Use soft cloths to avoid scratching. None harsh cleaners or warm water I would recommend. For example I used a soft terry cloth and tv screen cleaner. The bumper is an easy fix. Moving it manually while the vacuum is off to break up debris . Cleaning the areas where it moves. It does come off with a few screws on most models if you really need a good cleaning or to replace the sensor beneath most bumpers. For all the brushes and wheels. Pretty much the same... they need cleaned and/or replaced. Resistance beyond its normal threshold causes malfunctions and can lead to shorting the longevity of any vacuum. I find using a shop vacuum, cloth, tooth brush , or air gun/blower does the trick in no time. If you have encountered a very dirty vacuum with possible liquid , mud, or clunks of dirt and hair, a deep clean is best. This takes about 10 minutes depending on your skill or knowledge how to take the proper things apart. Super easy to find online and hard to mess up. Taking off panels is a great way to get this clean done and it back to new and less errors . Most only have a few for the main area panels and less the 10 screws total. If it had a lot of liquid make sure you dry it out the best you can before putting it together and using it again. They can take a lot of abuse but liquids cause rust, degradation of of some of the plastic/rubber parts and of course electrical problems. (mop and combo versions have a seals that prevent most of this) Also vacuums , especially older or high use ones sometimes need a little lubrication in the motors and crevices. Usually this also helps clean the gunk out too! Just make sure you are not voiding your warranties . There are many out there that work. I usually use blaster dry lube, helps clean easy to get into gear holes and tight crevices and does not make a mess. I find this the easiest solution to most issues. Judging by the sound of the shark in the video (which seems normal) I think cleaning or lubrication is the solution . :)
I figured it out thanks to your video! so the one crush that runs tighter, unscrew it, then take the little silver clasp out and bend it open a little more! the reason why it rotates harder is because of this little piece that is too tight on the white plastic part! yay! my vacuum runs again !! thank you so much!
Thank you!!! I have cleaned it as much as I could without totally disassembling it - but still kept getting that error! I couldn’t get the brushes off but squirted silicone spray around the brushes and it’s working like it’s brand new! You rock!!!
I just fixed this issue on a friend's iRobot. You have to take it ALL apart to get to the drive units for the side brushes. They are underneath the main board. 3 screws in each unit, pop the gearbox cover off carefully with a small flat screwdriver, and then you push the drive sprocket down on the motor shaft. It walks up the shaft and causes binding against the next gear in the transmission. Reassemble, and it should work again for a while.
I'm astonished at their horrible customer service having no less than 5 shark/ninja products in our home and seeing from this video alone it's the exact same issue in everyone's product which means it's faulty. But thank you for some sort of relief. It took the same thing for ours to work. We also tried taking it apart to see why the one was so hard to turn. The Shark company is despicable. They did kindly offer me 30% off my next vacuum. Rolling my eyes.
@@felice_picks_sticks lmao I got mine because I got it on Black Friday and it was so cheap vs the regular price. We actually had ours for close to 2 1/2 years before we started having this problem. I think my family's issue is they're half being cheap half being lazy. I have a live in ihss worker that's a family friend, of whom I've asked to do the cleaning out of the self empty bin once a week because we have 3 dogs, a cat, and 3 girls with long hair. She never does. I've asked her to do the maintenance cleaning on the sensors, rollers, etc, but she refuses and says that my dad can do all that. Note: this is a vacuum I bought, and she is supposed to help me with doing the things around the house that I would normally be doing if I were not physically disabled. My dad, on the other hand: he has done a really good job in taking it apart and using an air duster to blow out the areas you can't really reach, using a shopvac and a small knife to cut hair off rollers etc. He hasn't cleaned the sensors, though. And I explained to him the timeline of the lifespan of the different brushes and rollers, and I'm the one that purchased with my own money a multi-pack of replacement parts that, on that timeline, would last literal years. Despite him not being the one that purchased the replacement parts he will not replace the parts (this again being something I would do if I were able) because he wants to "get the money's worth out of the rollers and the brushes" (it's not even your money!) AND by trying to do that I think he's inadvertently doing more harm than good as the brushes accumulate sticky caked on gunk that can't be easily wiped off, and not even easily visibly seen once you try wiping it off because the cleaning solutions just dilute it and spread it along the bristles so theyll catch on and hold more large debris when spinning that then gets clogged/wrapped up above where they screw in. So by trying to save MY money on the cheap thing he may be causing damage to my very expensive thing, and the other one is no help at all I'll literally ask her "did you empty Steve [our vacuum]'s base today?" Or "did Steve's base get emptied this week" and her response will be "I don't know" or "How am I supposed to know?" Like girl, because I straight up asked you to do this individual thing as a regular task every week, so if you didn't do it, then that's how you know!!!! 😰😣 I've tried telling them both to just FIX it already, it's been months! I stopped my schedule, I've run him multiple times by request- "I didn't see you run him how do I know" 'Let me try cleaning him again" "hey can you run Steve tonight" - and he still gets stuck. 🙄
I had this same problem. Called support and this is how they solved. Remove the long roller brush in the middle by pulling back the 2 grey tabs above it. Don't just clean out the brush of all the hair rolled around it. The real "issue #2" lies in the endcaps of the long brush. Clean both ends of the roller brush out and replace. My unit works fine now. Hope this helps someone else out there.
This. Remove the middle roller brush and pay particular attention to the end with the larger plastic piece. I found a lot of pet hair in there that was basically not visible without some poking and pulling.
I have waist length hair. I followed your instructions for the beater brush end caps. Yikes! Took a but to get all the hair off, but I did. No problems now. Thank you for your advice and to the original lady who made the video.
Both of my robots have started doing this. One last week and one this week. Thank you for posting this video even though it's a couple years ago. I'm pretty sure that this will help me fix the problem.
I took the center roll out and cleared a ton of pet hair. But it only worked long enough to get to the dock. I tried to get the side brushes bout and couldn’t. My next step was to buy a small Allen wrench to try and get them out. Then I tried the man handle side brushes and it worked!!! THANK YOU SO much for doing this. I don’t have 400.00 to throw away. Waiting to see what happens after it stops to empty
That worked YAY After cleaning the brush bearings cleaning off all of the electric eyes etc etc still same issue. That whisker flick was what did it. I was starting to worry my little robo vac was a paper weight. Great video Thanks
Ohh. Did you name yours Jeeves? Mine are Light and Switch, and both now have googly eyes. My 6yo son loves robots. Wish I loved this vacuum as much as he does. 😄
My "fix" with Technical Support was to power off, flip over, manually spin the sweeping roller about 10 times. This of course was after popping out the roller and removing the hair off of the "ends" of the roller. That task needs to be done roughly every other day at my house.
Same problem here! There is no hair, obstructions, or anything I could find, but it shuts down all the time. It is supposed to save me time, and hassles, but has added a new set. I will definitely try this! Thanks so much!
Thank you! Ours is only a month old and is doing this. I knew it was the side brushes but didn't realize one wasn't spinning until just today. It does seem to fix itself after a few times of having the error but now that I know what to do I'll be sure to "manually" spin the brush from the get go.
I found a ball of dust in the housing of the side brush. I pried off the side brush with a screwdriver and cleaned the housing. Then I replaced both side brushes after cleaning the housing so that they would be balanced. Both of them spin in the toe-in direction, so it would be more difficult to go one way than the other. Thanks for clueing me in with the side brush issue.
I haven't tried to fix it yet but I think this is exactly what's happening and maybe why one of those was missing when I got it because I bought a product that had been returned and I bet somebody got so frustrated they just sent it back to Amazon. I'm going to go in there now and try and fix it. It worked with the one brush, it's been since I bought the new brushes that I'm having a problem! Thanks!
That same thing, exactly, just happened to me and while I was researching it, my husband popped the roller out and saw that end was bound with hair. We removed the hair and voila, it’s fixed!
This is what fixed it for me. I refused to lose the "schedule" function. That was the main reason I liked it. I run it at 9:00 AM every day. We took out the main roller and the end with the cap on it was bound up with my wife's hair (I don't know how she isn't bald). Once we got all the hair out, it ran just like new! While the "flick" wasn't the answer, it led me to it, so thanks!!!!
I have had my IQ Wifi self cleaning robot for two weeks. I tried everything: replaced side brushes, took out the big brush roller and found lots of cat fur tucked in the very end, cleaned it out. Still no luck, so I tried taking out the filter and cleaned it and emptied some cat fur stuck in the filter box too. So much for self cleaning! I empty the dust bin daily. Nothing I tried seems to work which saddens me because I actually really think the suction on this device is awesome and does a great job on hardwood, ceramic and carpet alike! It cleans up pet fur great! We have a husky and two long hair cats and no problems with the cleaning... we just can’t get past this Error 2 Obstruction issue. I called for support but was on hold for 15 mins so I hung up! I guess it’s going back to Costco!
I appreciate you posting this video I tried everything but when I did that it worked perfect I just took the little flapper off of it and then use it thank you very much.
If you have a small torx-head driver, you can remove the side brush and clean under it. There may be some yuck that is causing the friction that is preventing it from going 'round. Also, Amazon has very inexpensive side brushes and roller brush replacements. Thanks for the video, it helped me! 💛
The long roller brush in the middle can throw error code 2 as well. Take it apart and pull all the wound up hair out of the ends. This was my problem. The side rotating brushes are directional motors, so if you manually rotate them the wrong way, you'll feel resistance. It doesn't mean they're blocked, they're just rotating in the opposite direction of their design. They come apart with an allen wrench as well so if you think it's clogged up with hair, mine came off with the smallest wrench I could find.
Exactly. It's been frustrating! However, both of mine spontaneously started functioning correctly again. I can't explain it. I didn't change anything. Just...one day...it ceased having the problem, on both robots! It's like the robots conspired together to aggravate me, and then got bored and decided they'd had enough of this game. 😫
Thanks for the explanation, I have identical problem as you did, here is what i did to fix mine: I use WD40 & Dyelectric Grease, 1. remove the brush assembly (1 screw), this will expose that white axle where the screw comes out from 2. i basically took the patience using its spray nozzle to drawn these lubricants in mix of both cans, through the axle hole which the lube will find its way into actual gear box chamber, let the lubricant sink in little by little as you spray it, eventually it will flood the gearbox chamber and hopefully it will find its way to the motor deeper depth inside. there is no need to disassemble anything aside from the little spinning brush. but patience pays off in my case. let the lube travel its way through the gear box and find its way to the motor.. hand spin it time after time while you are lubing, it wont make much difference at first, set it back on the charging station, an hour later, my was free from being stuck and so far its running all over the house with out an issue. note: not just one squirt, i estimated about half an oz of each spray can let your vaccum sit up-side-down so lube can travel deep in for an hour before putting back in charging station. fingers crossed.
Thank you for the heads up, between this video and Tony's comment about the very end sides of the roller brush not the bush itself catching pet hair, I know what to look out for. However, it was advertised as not having to worry about this lol. I am going to return mine if this is a problem.
This might help you… I pulled the side brush off and used 3-in-one Garage Door lube… sprayed a little in the hole where the side brush is and put the side brush back in. Twisted it a couple of times to get the lube in there pretty good. It worked like a charm. Hope it works for you 😊
@@kathleenkane1502 You just pull up on them., they will snap right back on. They have replacement brushes on line as well. Another thing that has helped me is to make sure on your app to have it set on evacuate and resume if you have a lot of pets. Hope this helps 😊
I was having the same error after having it for only a week. I had to clean all the hair off of the end of the roller and that seems to have fixed the problem.
Thank you Felice! Mine started doing exactly the same thing (about 2-3 weeks old). "Check for an obstruction" is not a very informative message, is it? I too was surprised to not find more info about this online. My right-hand side brush is much stiffer than the left, and it turns at only half the rate of the left brush now too -- about 50 RPM vs the ~100 RPM of the left brush. Your video put me on the right track. I might disassemble it looking for a string wrapped around an axle if it does it again.
Haven’t fully solved it, but I took a torx bit and really cranked it and it started semi working. Like yours with the brush that is having issues moving slower.
hello! So today I woke up to hear my shark screaming “obstruction error 2” looked at this video, still didn’t work very well but here’s a tip, check the rollers in the middle and pull out all the hair, you might find a whole dog in there like me lol. Seems to have fixed the problem for now! Hope this helped
Well presented video. And I guess on your next robot purchase, just don’t get a shark. I see other reviews for the product, people saying they’d rather have paid double for a roomba, and the roomba’s quality vs shark. Sometimes lower or middle end product ideas workout and sometimes not.
I encountered the same error message and flashing lights. For me the solution was totally different. I found that the self cleaning brush actually had a spool of hair caught in it (underneath the part that comes out with it when you clean it - so it's not noticeable at first). Once I removed the hair the message went away and the vacuum was back to normal. I didn't do anything to the side brushes. Hope this helps.
You literally saved me. I didn't realize the end cap of the spool came off. I found hair under it that was preventing mine from spinning too. I felt like I was going insane trying to clean this thing and not finding anything in it.
I’ll try the silicone spray next time, but what I did notice is after a time the side brush seems to get permanently bent and the rubber part of the brush arm seems to rub the floor enough to cause the error. Putting on a nice new straight brush solved the problem for several months (until that brush got bent). I don’t know how to prevent that but a package of brushes will allow me to fix it for some time.
I was having the same problem this morning. I tried moving the side brushes but didn't work. I got out the owner's guide and looked under troubleshooting. Each error code number will describe the error code light. In my case it was Clean (Blue) + 1 (Red) flashing. The solution said Blockage in the brush roll. Remove any debris from around the brush roll so that it can spin freely. When I checked the brush roll I found an ornament hook! Pulled it out and she is working fine now. Hope this helps!
I did the same my code according to the book red flashing Dock says bumper is obstructed. clean bumper....the problem is, there is nothing in the manual regarding the bumper...ie how to clean/remove
I had the same problem, but when I removed the center roller the one side had a huge amount of hair built up. It was on the side where the two screws are. When you remove the bottom guard around the roller you just pull up on the one side and the roller comes out. I would check it out.
Same. We've had it about a month. I'm so glad I saw this and will try it out. I am going crazy looking for an obstruction. Taking apart, cleaning out, and nothing. I hope Shark sees this and tweeks the issue.
Hello Felice, I have this same error#2 and unfortunately your fix didn't work for my robot. the spinning brushes seemed to act with the same resistance and watching them spinning on a hard surface they didn't appear to act out of sync. I called Shark and they are sending me a replacement robot, and only charging me $25 for shipping. I believe I have to pull my roller, side brushes, and battery from my current robot. I asked Shark if I am mailing back my old robot and they said to dispose of it. Of course I am keeping it, I would love to find a business with a reputation for fixing robots to fix my broken robot so I can keep it. Sad that Shark just throws out the broken robots rather than fix them.
Oh no! Sorry that didn't help, but I am glad Shark will send a replacement. I kind of feel like they shouldn't make you play for the shipping, though. It's not your fault your vacuum is a lemon. 😥
@@felice_picks_sticks Update : So I received the replacement and Shark sent me a brand new robot. Exactly the same packaging as buying from Amazon or Best Buy. So I set it up a few days ago. But, I didnt give up on my robot with Error #2 flagging. I was able to fix it. I pulled the roller and sprayed some WD40 to the side the turns the roller brush. I put the roller wheel brush back on and snapped the cover back in place and rolled the brush roller by hand for about 20 seconds. I could tell the brush roller had less friction than before spraying the WD40. I turned the robot back on and now it is cleaning the house! So the next time I get Error #2 , I plan to spray a little WD40 on the piece that turns the roller brush.
I had the same issue with the left side brush giving error #2. I called Shark, they had me do a video chat and saw the left brush wasn't spinning as fast as the right one, so they said they'd send me a new one. They also wanted to charge me $25 for shipping, but I complained that the machine less than a week old and under warranty, so they waived the charge. The new one seems to be working perfectly. They also didn't make me send the old one back, so I'm trying to fix the brush to get the original one working. That way I'll have one for each part of my house. I'll try some of the tips in the comments, but I wanted to let people know that Shark will send you a new one and you can get the shipping charge waived if you complain. Why can't they just say "Side brush isn't spinning" instead of "error #2"? Even the app doesn't say the side brush is the problem.
I took the actual motor out and found it spun very hard they seem to have compressed the motor casing too tightly on the armature. I did press on the gear side shaft and loosen the prongs that crimp the motor casing and loosen it up. It seems to be working. Not very good on sharks part they did send me a new replacement one I haven't tried it yet. Hopefully the original will keep working.
That's really cool, Darrin! I couldn't get mine opened up that far! Owning this machine has made me feel like a mechanic. You need a good set of screwdrivers to get anywhere with it!
I had the same error but my brushes seemed to be working fine. I checked all the dumb stuff first. Brushes, filters, dirt, whatnot. The side brushes have more resistance in one direction then another, i noticed you do that in the video. They naturally spin opposite of each other, and one way should have less resistance than spinning the other way. One of my brushes makes a slightly different sound when i spin it, probably gonna crap out eventually but for now its fine. I even charged it fully after it spent all day away from the dock. Still gave the error. Then i wiped all the sensors with a qtip and now it works fine. We'll see if it acts up in the future.
We had this problem after replacing side brushes. My husband noticed a certain way to put the new brushes on the screws to position them out i had only just took off old and put on new, not paying attention just popping the replacements on. We are watching ours now to see if we get that error.
@@felice_picks_sticks I agree I mean it is suppose to have a warranty on it. Mine started doing this right before my knee surgery so floors didn't get cleaned for a week because you know how males are lol so my husband got it to work all of one day and now doing the same thing again. Going to go try what she said in the video.
I just looked again… there were huge clumps of hair stuck in the sides Of the brush. I cleaned it out. We’ll see if it keeps stopping still. Or at least returned to the dock.
First you are trying to turn the brush the wrong way which is why it is hard to move. Also any ideas on how to fix a error 2 message if both brushes are moving just fine?
mine is still not working. It starts with both brushes moving and then after 2-3 minutes it stops. i can't just watch my vacuum like a hawk to see it it needs a little lift, following it everywhere. So annoying because I cannot return/replace it anymore. It was 2019 Christmas present and it was sitting in a box for almost a year. We used it maybe 2 months until this error started happening. Ugh. What is weird, that my Shark is a different model, but it's the same side brush that is experiencing the trouble
My error #2 had nothing to do with the brushes. Hair wrapped tightly around the brush . Had to use small knife to pull it loose and free the brush. Of note - the brush still turned, but not as freely and that set off the error.
Same problem.. Cleaned thoroughly. Nothing is dirty and everything spins freely. Just out of nowhere in the middle of a clean floor.. I get the same error. I have had a Roomba for 8 years and only had to replace the battery and brushes..
Recently, I had this problem again (I posted 2 months ago) and took the big brush off, there was a plastic piece on one side I removed and cleaned and the problem went away for me.
I had same 2 error and i tried everything posted and i set it down and pushed it out the way and thought maybe thats it I pushed the button and off she went. I don't know if that did the trick or just luck as it was just 10 minutes ago and its still going If it works please comment back here remember this is for 2 error.
I have had the same problem with my vacuum. What I found that solved the issue was to take off the side brushes, put WD40 around the plastic the side brushes attach to, than I use a pair of plyers to work the wd 40 down into the machine. Put the side brushes back on and it works.
I had the same "clear obstruction under robot. Shark error #2" problem happening. I cleaned all the usual spots and tried again. And again. And again...... Very frustrating. I finally pulled the "L" shaped end off of the main roller brush and found dog hair wrapped around the inside. Cleaned it out and the robot is back in action. If you pull your main roller out and turn it in your hand, I noticed a spot or resistance while turning it. Wasn't much but it did not rotate freely the full 360 degrees. If you feel this, it may be packed also. The part needed some help to get it off but slid right back on. Hope this helps someone.
this is what my problem was as well, I removed one of the roller ends, and dog hair was INSIDE the end, I remove that, and so far, my robot now works - Thanks for the tip Chris!!!!!
That was it! I can't thank you enough. A ton of debis and hair was hindering the main brush underneath that part. Cleaned it off and it works like a charm again. Not an obvious issue at all. Thank you!
Thanks. I didn't know if that cap on the main roller would come off without breaking it. I suspected hair inside because of some resistance to rotate, although you can see inside. The cap should also move slightly right to left back and forth if there is no Debree inside . Mine did not. I have two robots. I placed the main roller from the other robot in the robot that kept erroring and it worked fine. So I said to myself, I am either going to break the main roller prying the cap off, or buy a new roller. You need to push pretty hard with your thumb to pop the cap off, but it will come off. If you don't have the strength, use something to pry it off. Inside there is a brass bushing that rests on a tiny shaft. I couldn't believe how much gunk was packed into a tiny compartment around the shaft and bushing. After cleaning the gunk out and a little spray of lubricant, the cap popped right back on. Now the robot works flawlessly.
I have my shark set to clean before I get up in the morning. Unfortunately, every morning when I get up starts with a game of "Find the Robot." It's ALWAYS stuck with error number 2. The unit is brand new (1 week). It gets stuck every time I run it, usually within seconds. None of the fixes suggested here in the comments work. Everything is clean, and I don't see my turning brushes getting stopped like in the video. I'll give it another week before I send it back.
The roller in the middle can be removed and cleaned. I kept getting the error message so I called the phone number on the app and the gentleman walked me through how to remove the roller. Mine is only 2 months old snd had a huge wad of hair on the end of the roller. Now it works fine. It will give the error message if the wheels are not turning or the roller has trouble turning.
UPDATE! I took the brush off and gave a shot of WD-40 into the hole that the brush mount comes out of, put the brush back on and spun it several times. The slower brush is now spinning just as fast as the other brush. Hopefully the issue is resolved. UPDATE!! Side brush went back to not spinning again. Took it back to COSTCO and they replaced with a new IQ Robot and it's worked perfectly for the past 2 months.
I get an obstruction fault and it is because one of the side brushes does not turn as freely as the other. If I give it the sweeper a couple turns when I turn it on, it will work for the rest of the cleaning. It still turns slower. Seems to be the same issue as you. I may try shooting some WD-40 down into the sweeper assembly.
I had the same problem so (because it's a refurb / low $$) i dropped some bike chain lube into the mech and it "seems" to be working. I'll find out over the course of the week to see if it damages anything.
@@bobwassell I brought mine back to Costco the other day and exchanged for a new one. The replacement has worked perfectly. It really is a great little robot.
@@SWIFTY5150 I got a refurb, so it's a risk... but I have two of them, and no complaints. seems like it's working now (and it's a 2nd gen model) So much of a time saver, it's ridiculous.
If you guys are able to afford a new side brush motor and a TORX security screw set. Then I would highly recommend swapping out the motor. It worked for me!
Not sure if you still have this issue, but I was experiencing the same thing it was it due to bunch of clogged pet hair in the roller brush. I took the roller apart and removed all the pet hair from the roller brush from the middle to the end and it fixed the issue for me.
I am having the same problem. My vacuum is very clean. All sensors clear. Very frustrating and your fix did not work with mine. But again no obstruction.
Cleaned everything. Removed all gross matter. Hair, dirt, dust, debris. Still error. Wiped all sensors with alcohol. Error. Came down to a hard restart - depress both buttons.
Brand new, day two, and I have the same error. So sad because it worked great on the first day. Don’t want to have to send it back but this is crazy for this amount of money
Thank you so much for posting this video and the detailed information. We've had the same problem and this solution solved it. Truly appreciate your time making this and sharing with others!

The Main causes are:

- Dirty/old rolling brush. The motor and cylinder crevice is dirty/clogged, slowing the rolling brush causing resistance.

You rock!!!
I have two of these units as well and it’s very frustrating. The hack I did was to just remove the side brush entirely. Thank you for posting this.
THANK YOU so much.... I was driving myself crazy obsessively cleaning my new $300 vacuum!! Its wrong that Shark isn't fixing this error.
Lol, 30% off? You'd get a better deal on Black Friday!
Yeah, I would not recommend this product or line, for sure.
I was getting ready to call customer service. Guess I won’t.
I've tried telling them both to just FIX it already, it's been months!
You literally saved me thank you!
This. Remove the middle roller brush and pay particular attention to the end with the larger plastic piece. I found a lot of pet hair in there that was basically not visible without some poking and pulling.
Yes!!!! That was my issue.
Thank you for posting this comment. Saved me!
Thank you for taking the time to create this video! My Shark was on his way to the trash (Poor Jeeves!)
Ohh. Did you name yours Jeeves? Mine are Light and Switch, and both now have googly eyes. My 6yo son loves robots. Wish I loved this vacuum as much as he does. 😄
@@felice_picks_sticks Mine is Landshark - the Saturday Nigh Live skit.
My "fix" with Technical Support was to power off, flip over, manually spin the sweeping roller about 10 times. This of course was after popping out the roller and removing the hair off of the "ends" of the roller. That task needs to be done roughly every other day at my house.
@@felice_picks_sticks Ours is Irving.
Ours is sharkiesha
Same problem here! There is no hair, obstructions, or anything I could find, but it shuts down all the time. It is supposed to save me time, and hassles, but has added a new set. I will definitely try this! Thanks so much!
I removed the side brushes, saw nothing wrong, swapped sides and reattached, it worked, thanks.
Thank you! Ours is only a month old and is doing this. I knew it was the side brushes but didn't realize one wasn't spinning until just today. It does seem to fix itself after a few times of having the error but now that I know what to do I'll be sure to "manually" spin the brush from the get go.
I watched all the videos this was my problem. Thank you!
Thanks for clueing me in with the side brush issue.
thanks Felice. Would never have known. Appreciate your hack and your taking the time to make this video!!!
Thanks!
I had the same problem and my husband found stuff wrapped around the end of the roller and removed it. It works perfect now!!
That same thing, exactly, just happened to me and while I was researching it, my husband popped the roller out and saw that end was bound with hair. We removed the hair and voila, it’s fixed!
I had the same issue - it did not like our dog's hair.
Same... I removed a ton of hair from ends of brush and it works fine now
I have had my IQ Wifi self cleaning robot for two weeks.
Omg thank you for taking the time to post this. Youre a good human! ❤ it worked!
Thank you!!
Literally god bless you. Was so frustrated with this thing for the past couple days. You are amazing 🙏
Thank you so much! Mine has only run 5 times and now trouble! Appreciate your help.
Thank you. I was having the same problem and had no clue what to do!
Thank you! I have the same problem. Irritating that I spent so much on this thing and have to do these workarounds.
Exactly. It's been frustrating! However, both of mine spontaneously started functioning correctly again. I can't explain it. I didn't change anything. Just...one day...it ceased having the problem, on both robots! It's like the robots conspired together to aggravate me, and then got bored and decided they'd had enough of this game. 😫
Thanks for the explanation, I have identical problem as you did, here is what i did to fix mine:
I use WD40 & Dyelectric Grease,
1. remove the brush assembly (1 screw), this will expose that white axle where the screw comes out from
2. i basically took the patience using its spray nozzle to drawn these lubricants in mix of both cans, through the axle hole which the lube will find its way into actual gear box chamber, let the lubricant sink in little by little as you spray it, eventually it will flood the gearbox chamber and hopefully it will find its way to the motor deeper depth inside.
there is no need to disassemble anything aside from the little spinning brush. but patience pays off in my case. let the lube travel its way through the gear box and find its way to the motor.. hand spin it time after time while you are lubing, it wont make much difference at first, set it back on the charging station, an hour later, my was free from being stuck and so far its running all over the house with out an issue.
note: not just one squirt, i estimated about half an oz of each spray can let your vaccum sit up-side-down so lube can travel deep in for an hour before putting back in charging station.
fingers crossed.
Thank you. I have the same issue..sounds like this is a common serious issue that they need to reengineer or redesign the brush .
Thank you for the heads up, between this video and Tony's comment about the very end sides of the roller brush not the bush itself catching pet hair, I know what to look out for. However, it was advertised as not having to worry about this lol.
I am going to return mine if this is a problem.
We tried this, thanks for the info! For us it ended up just being hair, but in case we get the error messages again we'll keep this in mind too.
Thank you! Popped my side brushes off and cleaned the crap out and now works great 👍
How did you pop the side brushes?
This might help you… I pulled the side brush off and used 3-in-one Garage Door lube… sprayed a little in the hole where the side brush is and put the side brush back in. Twisted it a couple of times to get the lube in there pretty good. It worked like a charm. Hope it works for you 😊
How did you get the side brushes off?
This worked!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much!!!!
My GF sheds like a dog, can confirm this helped, thanks!
OMG Same! Thanks for the tip!
Thank you sooo much this fixed mine !!!
Not sure if this has been mentioned....the motors spin different directions....the amount of resistance felt changes related to direction of rotation.
Well presented video. And I guess on your next robot purchase, just don’t get a shark.
I see other reviews for the product, people saying they’d rather have paid double for a roomba, and the roomba’s quality vs shark.
Sometimes lower or middle end product ideas workout and sometimes not.
I’m starting to wonder if I can return mine. Way too expensive to require a babysitter.
I have a shark and a roomba. They both have issues. No winning
This happened to me too.
Omg. I tried the long roller removal.. and 8r worked! Thank you
It works!! Thank you. I also added some lubricant on both sides
There is a simple fix here. I had the same issue, took a hex key and loosen the screw that holds the mechanism that turns the brushes
Hex key…will get one
This helped me figure out why I wasn't moving, but I just flipped it over and spined the slower flipper fan, and then it worked for a good bit
I’ll try the silicone spray next time, but what I did notice is after a time the side brush seems to get permanently bent and the rubber part of the brush arm seems to rub the floor enough to cause the error. Putting on a nice new straight brush solved the problem for several months (until that brush got bent). I don’t know how to prevent that but a package of brushes will allow me to fix it for some time.
so far this has worked for me! thank you so much! Mine is still within the return window, I wonder if I should send it back...
I just got mine. It lost one brush and can't find it. Lol
If I have any problems like she has I will most definitely return it.
This fixed mine-thanks! He was ready to go in the garbage can...
Same. We've had it about a month. I'm so glad I saw this and will try it out. I am going crazy looking for an obstruction. Taking apart, cleaning out, and nothing. I hope Shark sees this and tweeks the issue.
Taking out the middle roller thing and removing the wrapped up hair fixed it for most of us. Try that and I think you'll be happy!
One of my front brushes doesn’t spin. Error 2. Took it apart and put wd40. No dice. Any ideas?
My shark long brush is moving but nothing else is happening. The lights aren't even on abd the vacuum is clean????
My issue was a long thread locked up the main scooping brush in the middle.
You are a genius!!! 👏🙌 shark should pay you as a technician 😆
Haha, lol. Maybe they could just send us all a vacuum cleaner that works! I'd go for that!
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!! It's been making me crazy and it worked! Thanks hon!
I just looked again… there were huge clumps of hair stuck in the sides
Of the brush. I cleaned it out. We’ll see if it keeps stopping still. Or at least returned to the dock.
First you are trying to turn the brush the wrong way which is why it is hard to move. Also any ideas on how to fix a error 2 message if both brushes are moving just fine?
This worked for me, thanks for the video
You have to remove the long brush underneath. One was full of hair on one side. It works perfectly now. No more error message.
Thank you!!! This fixed my problem too. :)
mine is still not working.
This worked! Thank you so much for the info!!
I ended up just changing out the brushes and that seems to have worked when nothing else did. Weird.
Thinking about buying a shark iq. Is yours still under warranty?
It might be. Feels like I bought it 10,000 years ago, given the times we're living in. 😭
Thanks! Your tip worked!
Sounds like Roomba is the way to go!
So you were moving that side brush that was resisting you backwards. Both brushes are suppossed to move inwards
Haha, yes, I am in the video! 🤣 However, the resistance is the same mess for me whether I go one way or the other.
Thank you this helped me greatly!!
Thanks. This worked for mine!
This helped me with mine! Thank you so much
That was it!
Sooooo... the brush is difficult to turn because it’s supposed to turn opposite of the other brush. Like an egg beater.
Do you mean "now" spinning, not "not spinning"?
@@char-pref yes, I meant "now". My fix didn't last, so back to Costco it went. The replacement has been working great!
@@SWIFTY5150 Thank goodness for Costco's fantastic return policy! Glad your new one is working well. Thanks for responding. :)
Thank you
It works! Thank you!
I had the same error message and had a ton of hair wrapped around the ends of my main brush. Cleaned it out and error was gone
Just bought one 2 days old - the same problem - decided to remove that brush - seems to be doing the mapping and job now....
how did you remove it? I cant even find a screwdriver to unscrew it
Is it still working now? I'm just wanting to take the brush that doesn't spin off
If you guys are able to afford a new side brush motor and a TORX security screw set.
That worked. Thank you
Cleaned everything. Removed all gross matter. Hair, dirt, dust, debris. Still error. Wiped all sensors with alcohol. Error. Came down to a hard restart - depress both buttons.
THANK you so much!
could be capacitor for the motor faulty
On Off switch on the side of the Robot fixed the error for me, after cleaning it out
Brand new, day two, and I have the same error. So sad because it worked great on the first day. Don’t want to have to send it back but this is crazy for this amount of money
Exactly
In fact my daughter and my sister have cheaper robots and love them. No problems with theirs.
Right! It's totally crazy! Frustrating like mad!
Omg you fixed mine!!!!
