    Honestly my favourite thing about Blood and Water is that it’s an African show with dark skin, black main characters but the plot is nit focused around the fact that they are black. Also, it shows the parts of Africa that some Americans didn’t even think existed, rather than painting all Africans as underprivileged and miserable, living in huts and constantly facing hardship, it’s just a regular drama where the characters happen to be South African.
    Let’s just hope that it doesn’t become Riverdale 2.0. i.e Season 1 is good, Season 2 is eh then after that it makes no sense and both the cast and people watching are miserable.

      YES and that is one thing that South African shows do best. I'm African basically all shows on DSTV (a South African cable network used basically all over the continent) are mostly like this. GREAT plots, developed stories and black and/or darkskin leads. Because it is such a norm, the shows don't usually focus so much on the blackness of the characters and as a result the characters are versatile and nuanced. The representation is real because it's Africa, so as a result the shows are great. South Africans also really value their cultures and they know the importance of representation so virtually ALL shows have black or mostly darkskin leads playing versatile characters.

      Yeah, it’s finally a show I see that doesn’t show Africans as living in huts. I’m a proud African who has gone to a school similar to the one in Blood and Water in Africa. I’m so glad that this is a great drama show which celebrates South African culture.

    My ONLY criticism is how the show kinda romanticizes Fiks relationship with the coach. He’s a predator and he was grooming her-a CHILD. I was so annoyed with the characters shaming fiks when all the blame should of been on him PERIOD

    • @rosaleejarrett8048
      @rosaleejarrett8048 4 роки тому +176

      Ajaratu Adisa You sound like R kelly- their relationship can’t be consensual because he had structural power over her. Same reason it’s unethical for a boss to date his employee. Legal or not she’s a CHILD and a victim completely. What does her parents having money have to do with him being a predator and grooming a teenager at his big married age.

    • @rosaleejarrett8048
      @rosaleejarrett8048 4 роки тому +179

      Ajaratu Adisa She said a couple times how he told her he was leaving Riley and how he loves -clear manipulation tactic. She’s a inexperienced teenager and he’s a grown man. Teaching her to be sneaky, telling her to delete messages this is clear grooming. Like Amanda said-age of consent doesn’t mean right and not disturbing. He’s a predator and used his position as her coach to take advantage of her point blank.

    • @dayoolorunnisola162
      @dayoolorunnisola162 4 роки тому +52

      R.K.C omg yess!! They did the same thing in pretty little liars! They made Ezra so hot so we wouldn’t really call out how disturbing his relationship with his student was. It makes teenage girls think well it’s ok for my teacher to touch me inappropriately as long as he’s hot which makes them not report it.

    I'm South African and can I just say that I'm so happy that my country created a show where a dark skin girl is pursued by a dark skin man. Here it's normal for us because we know what black girls look like but I'm so glad this type of show is going mainstream. Also the fact that it actual has a plot that doesn't center around her race 90% of the time is great. Also can we talk about the fact that the show doesn't center around Africans in poverty. We can go to private schools too and we can do normal teenage things like partying and not all of us live in huts. I'm so proud of my country and imma need this show to go mainstream to teach Americans how to give dark skin girls representation!

One thing I didn’t get is why she didn’t tell the group that Wendy changed her article, everybody in the group doesn’t like Wendy they know Wendy doesn’t like them so it wouldn’t be a stretch for them to believe that Wendy wrote bad things. As an African girl who lived in South Africa for a few years, I can tell you that shows like this are the norm. Black South African are very proud of their culture and South African make GREAT TV. Even kids who are privileged/westernized are proud of their culture and speak their native languages. As a result, South African shows (and most African shows for the most part but South Africa does it best) usually feature darkskin/black leads. Not only that, but the plots are very well developed, the stories are well written and thought out and the characters are nuanced. Shows with all black casts or mostly black casts are just the norm, so they don't have to focus on "blackness" throughout the show. It is just normal black people BEING. That is one thing that I truly love about South Africa, and Africa as a whole, they are unapologetically proud of their culture and know the importance of representing their image in the media. Black women are featured in a RANGE of different characters. From the damsel in distress to the strong woman.
    I'm so glad that our African American brothers and sisters get to see this and so happy you loved the show!

    I also feel like KBs dad has ALOT more dirt on him than stealing babies. The way Pulengs house got vandalised and her laptop went missing? I know that was him and Fikile's psychotic 'mother'. And when he and Puleng met outside the court and he said it dangerous for girls like her to be out and about in those particular ends...? very much sounded like a threat TO ME. and him saying he was looking into a high profile case on behalf of his client or some sh!t, I have reason to believe Fikile's adoptive parents wanted him to eavesdrop on daddy Khumalo's hearing. Considering how much he was helping her, she could've been a better friend. I got the impression that Puleng suspected his true feelings for her, but since she needed his help to find her sister, she kept lying and hiding things to keep him on her side. And sure, in most teen shows the "nice guy" always ends up being a prick, so I can understand her hesitation a little bit. But I still think Wade gave more than enough reasons for her to trust him and Puleng should've been more honest too. Communication and snooping weren't really her strengths.

    Did anyone find it weird how there was a head girl competition but there was no head boy competition. Because in my old school we had both and the votes went on at the same time.

      At most schools that I know of atleast, the spot for headgirl is highly went after but usually the boys aren't that fazed for the spot of headboy

    I swear Wade actually became a Nice Guy though. Like he got all moody with Puleng after he saw her and KB kissing, then said he wasn’t going to help her anymore. That kind of implies that the only reason he was helping was because of the prospect of a relationship

    I was so annoyed when Fikele blamed Puleng for losing head girl. Like Fisk your speech was not good.... not everything in your life was Pulengs fault. I loved wade tbh. He was so sweet and a good friend. Also liked KB and how he was with Puleng
