It was a genius marketing plan from Taylor and her team. It broke records (highest US grossing tour) and the album was really good! It's acceptable if you don't like that era. For me, it's her best! But the thing is, if Taylor did not plan on doing that era (letting all the drama slip by) I think more people would come for her again in 2017. In the end, Taylor is in disadvantage. But the fact that you turned those hates into your own weapon is a genius thing.

I know Amanda doesn’t like REP, and that’s ok, but I love that REP Taylor found a voice, whatever voice that may be. Maybe she was lashing out, only on 3/15 songs, but still she grew up a little bit and found strength to stand up for herself. After years of people labeling her a victim, which she was for the VMA debacle, but ever since then no matter what she did she was labeled playin the victim. This album stopped that in her mind, found some strength inside her, stood up for herself, and said that old push-over, nice girl next door is dead! I’m not going anywhere, I’m going to stand up for myself, and here’s the real tea. It’s a defining moment in her career. Either you crawl away, fade into mediocrity.... or grow, stand up, and forge a path forward where you want to go instead of being defined by where other people want you to go. This is when she became an adult and an artist. People don’t like that she lashed out on 3 songs.... but she had to. The 16 yr old Taylor had to go away to allow 28 yr old Taylor to be born. Without the old Taylor being dead.... she would not be be here now at age 31. Sharp pen, thin skin. Two things we can count on.

I feel like Taylor needed to release Reputation in order to get her feeling out. During the time of the release people still believed that she was the liar, so she had to come back strong. She went away for a year most likely very angry about Kim turning everyone against her and she couldn’t do anything about it but write music about the situation. If she had released something that wasn’t about Kim, I would have been disappointed because that’s what Taylor does best write songs about people and situations she’s been in!!

I think people feel that way because early on in her career, she was young so she didn't handle situations as well. Like making a big deal about how Joe Jonas dumped her over a short phone call when at the end of the day she was the one who hung up on him. Like I said she was young and its hard to be in a learning environment when you are also in the public eye. But these instances can be seen as playing the victim, so when real drama happened and she genuinely was victimized people couldn't differentiate it from the times before because her credibility at that point was a bit spotty.

I was preoccupied with the stress of life when this all unraveled in 2016, I was shocked by how a Kardashian convinced the world Taylor Swift was bad. I had zoned out of the 1989 era, stopped following Taylor’s life so closely because it was unhealthy for me. I think Taylor said it in the video, she was reaching overexposure and that is in fact what drove the hate bandwagon catapulting downhill.
