I love the way you show that you are a real person as everyone has times when everything wants to happen at once. I’m glad you showed your leca experience as I have been having reservations about using it too, I have been trying its use but it just doesn’t seem the same as getting your hands in the dirt so as to speak 😀
LMAO! Omg, your expressions when you say you have somewhere to be, but there you are, elbow deep in some soil-spillage situation is hilarious and we can all probably relate lol
I have a Plowmanii and a Gloriosum and can confirm the Plowmanii grows much much more slowly. My original single leaf Gloriosum is on its 4th leaf while my Plowmanii is only about to unfurl its second, and they’re both in the same lighting conditions. Great video as always, Sean!
I knew you could not get through a whole video with out propagating something! 🔪🪓✂️ I have spilled so much soil, so many times! Love how real your videos are! ❤️✌️🌱🌿🍃
I understand how you and many other people prefer the traditional way of planting through potting mix. The only reason I switched my plants to leca/semi-hydroponics is for sustainability! Semi hydro is costly but I tried to convert my plants little by little, not investing too much money at a time. Some plants actually do better in semi hydro than in soil so it’s worth giving it a try 👍🏻🫶🏻🌏
In tropics the pest never really gone ... cause no winter no start or sterilize season .... that why here on tropics is hard when our plant already contaminate with pest ...
@@Foxy11123 yeah you make a good point. I’ve grown plants all around the world. Currently I live in the sub tropic. Hey Shawn, I’ve had a plowmanii for about one year! She is a starter plant. She had 1 small leaf, she lost that! The end of her one petiole, it’s looking like it’s turning into a Y. These must be so slow! Her petiole is only about 8” inches long. I’m going to repot into terra cotta, she’s in plastic now. She’s always been in soil. She looks like she hardly has grown at all? Any suggestions Shawn? Thanks you! Love your video! Mealy bugs screaming! LMBO
I would grow her in a 99% propagation tent, do not over water just keep it really humid. A tiny dash of nutrients, and good light. Theres low probability she will make it but I would give it my best 😀
can you explain your soil composition. what you put in it? i cant maintain 3 leaf with out the previous turning yellow. my pot consist of charred rice husk (sekamp bakar) mixed in with a bit of organic compost and topped with peat moss on top of soil. it gets plenty of direct morning sun, its undercovered on the enclosed roof top. the room itself is warm and possibly low humidity. so yeah i am trying to figure out what is the ideal conditions. cheers.

Hi Sean, is it normal for plowmanii leaves to be slightly yellowing on the edges? I haven’t checked the roots but I guess it’s healthy because it just sprouted a new baby leaf. Thank you!
Hi Sean, my plowmanii was attacked by thrips, and I had to cut down its beautiful big leaves from 5 down to a quarter (not even one complete leaf because the infestation was so bad), now after almost two months, it got a new leaf bud emerging from the soil, and has grown about 10 cm long, but I don’t see any improvement on it so far within this week, it just seemed like it stuck and stop growing, have you encounter this kind of problem before? Hi Shawn! Nice video, just wanted to check something with you. Ain't ants a big part for Philodendrons and their life? I mean I once read that there is a symbiotic relationship between ants and philos. The plants gets protection against other insects due to the aggressive nature of ants as well as gaininig nutrients from ant nests, while ants get to profit from nectars from the plant (not necessarily from the flowers but also the extrafloral nectaries).
Yes you are right I mentioned extrafloral nectaries a while back. Not much is understood about this relationship but not all philodendrons do that. Presence of ants and mealy bugs are a totally different case though. Ants and mealy bugs also have symbiotic relationship and the mealy bugs eat the plant while the ants eat their poop. Also on plants with extrafloral nectaries you will see the spots on leaves and stems where they release sugars for the ants 😌
Hello. My question has nothing to do with the Philodentron Plowmanii, but I couldn't find a video of yours about Dumb Cane. I've had mine for a year, and it's doing good, new leaves keep coming out, but... they all curl down. @@onlyplants Looks like you have really lovely terracotta pots. Not so plentiful where I live (Vancouver, Canada) plus they're so heavy to drag home on buses. BTW, get a real kick out of your sense or humour and real-ness. Best to you!
May I know plowmanii narrow same as Plowmanii black face?
Very different. Narrow is a mutation but if you put any plowmanii in low light they will become blackface
a day in a life of sean pls hehe
Haha I dont have a cameraman 😅
Yo, I bought like 10 kilos of Leca because I saw you use it in one of your videos. LOL! But I never used it on its own. I just add it on my potting mix together with coco chunks, perlite, Orchid bark etc. to make my soil mix extra airy, my philodendrons and monstera seem to like it. Maybe you should do it too, don't waste the balls. 😂👌🏼
Lol yes I use it in my hoyas and aroids. And they can be used over and over again.
How about spraying mixture of baking soda & water to remove the ants, does it help?
I’ve never heard of this trick... for ants now I use this product called conant and they do the trick
How is the garden you planted for your dad coming?
I dont think I will start this year 😅 too many projects on hand
👋 Leca lover here! But I won’t take it personally that you don’t like it 😉
I have a few plants in clear jars and leca now and Im reaaaaally digging the look. With roots all over the jar.
if you had to choose..philodendron plow or mamei
Plowmanii hands down
@@onlyplants thanks! does plow have white specs on lleaves?
I almost forgot
She has no spikes…on her petioles yet either?
Hey Sean, hope you’re doing well! I was wondering where your Instagram page went?
Hello I just released a video explaining my ig account was hacked. Its unlikely they will be able to restore it but Im waiting if IG will respond to me.
lol I put SO much neem oil when I do my spray
Omggg haha hope the plants can withstand it
ooft those corrigations
🤤 I know right...
Honestly, tried leca out and didn't really worked out for me. Not going to look back.
I never looked back with Leca either
i want one sooo bad
I don't get lecca either. Even pon makes me nervous. I'm a chunky soil girl myself and strictly sphagnum m zoss to propagate. I've had almost 100% success with that! Don't fit it if it ain't broke!
High five haha
Ants 😭😦😱 I had them too in my onions.Which is surprising you think they wouldn't like the smell. They carrying there babies too. I had to evict everybody lol.
Awwww Use ant bait products they really help
@@onlyplants Trust me I did that. They so smart they left me note you thought I was going in there lol. I got under control.
Knp neem oil bukannya antracol?
Antracol is chemical fungicide, dia tidak bunuh hama setau aku 😀
@@onlyplants ooooooh i see , mks Sean
When he put that plant on the side and grabbed the pot to look at the roots... 👁👄👁💦
Noooooo!!!! Not the lekka agaiiinnnnnn!!! You need rest and relaxation! Too much stress for you is too much stress for the plants. Not good. Take some time for yourself, you deserve it.
Thank you 😌😌
