I REALLY appreciate that you make these videos over a couple of months span, so that we get to see the whole process all in one video! It's always super helpful!❤🌿😊🌞
thank you for this ! i just propagated my gloriosum in the same way, and i was worried i'd messed something up...but your video gave me confidence that everything will be just fine :) if you ever want to test shipping to France, i'll adopt one baby McDowell ;))
another great video! I just have to disagree on the xtraflorals (sorry!) they are not necessarily an indication that pest IS present. Rather they are there to protect the plant in case pest appears by providing food for predatory insects + its' plants way of kind of getting rid of "waste" or food it didn't absorb. Oh also full name is Dean McDowel, has a lovely story to how name came about. One of my favorite plants.
I m so excited every time you upload a new videos!! I learn so much!!! Honestly I wouldn't tell apart a MC Dowel from a Pastazanum!! Another terrestrial philodendron is the Mameii.. isn't it?? I have one and I removed the moss pole since it didn't bother to climb up at all.😂
Thank you for this interesting and informative video! I learnt so much. My Dean is outgrowing his pot and I now know what to do! Also, I don’t know about your plants but mine is producing SO MUCH sticky stuff on its stem and not just those tiny dots near the veins.
@@onlyplants No plant above that would be dripping sap, but scale is a possible cause. I did have a scale infestation but I thought I got rid of them and the sap still oozes out. I will double check. Thank you! xx
💚💚 i propagated my silver cloud about a month ago.. both the cuttings have started new leaves now ... I took help from your plowmanii video .. so thanks! Just a side note.. in the description , you say it's a hybrid of a glorious .. i think you actually meant gloriosum.. maybr try to edit that up , because some newbie might be confused. Since gloriosum and glorious are different plants 😅
OMG Thank you sooo much!! I've been searching for the way to propagate my P. mcdowell and didn't find the proper way for not to cut the growing eye ( I didn't know how to spot the growing eye before this video) and then I found you T____T but can I do this with the juvenile P.Gloriosum (it has around 5 leaves with 6 inches long and already has growing eye) and Thank so much for the tutorial!
Thanks for the video! Why many dark spots with yellow edging just appear in both leaves of my Dean McDowell? It might be fungal? How can I treat it without chop any leaves..
Usually if its on the edge its watering issue, most likely overwatering. I would spray with fungicide anyways, and give it good care. Lightly fertilizing will help it build up immune system against further infections
I love love love your videos. If you bury the growing eye in sphagnum moss, how do you get a new leaf? Does the node create another growing eye outside the moss? Or does the growing eye underground facing downward sprouts inside the moss and somehow find its way out of the moss to grow upwards? I had the same problem, but you don’t seem a bit worried about this. There must ba a way then. Also, does that clear container have a drainage hole?
Thank you so much for the tips and sharing. But I would like to ask for advice. My McDowell is on cocochip, pumice, perlite. I only water it when it dry on surface. But not sure why the edge of the plant is turning yellow also have some brown polka dots on the leaves.i just move it near a humidifier and shaded at bright area. Any idea what's happening and can share your thoughts? Thank you
Since my plant is extremely large, would it be a problem to cut the extended roots that are 1/2 inch in diameter? That is how huge the philodendron is . Leaves are 24 inches in length.
Can you site your sources on the differences between Pastazanum and McDowell? I bought mine as a Pastazanum but it definitely has red cataphylls. I'm away from home to check the other signs.
Hi Sean, can you please share if you use activated charcoal or simple charcoal in aroid potting mix? It's a struggle getting all the contents where I am (Germany) and I really want to copy your mix as much as I can. :D Sorry my question is not directly related to this video.
There are apparently few types of charcoals, I believe mine came from charred wood. Not those powdery ones you use for BBq haha. Looking for orchid or horticultural charcoal is the best way to go.
I thought we here in indonesia have the same problem when we thought we buy pastazanum but became mc dowel 😂😂😂 … i try found any pastazanum but cant find one always end the same mc dowel 🤣🤣🤣 … so i give up find pastazanum 🙄😂😂😂
They ARE epiphytic. Crawling IS epiphytic. Epiphytic simply means that it sits on something, instead of being buried underground. It literally crawls on TOP of the soil or tree or your cupboard, so it is epiphytic ;)
Love how we don’t have to wait for a second video for the results!!! You’re the best.

Dang back to back videos. Thank you for your time!!
Best info for keeping Philodendron Dean McDowell. Looking forward for others plants too.
That staghorn covered tree was something I never knew I needed to see oh lord 😭❤️
thank you for this ! i just propagated my gloriosum in the same way, and i was worried i'd messed something up...but your video gave me confidence that everything will be just fine :) if you ever want to test shipping to France, i'll adopt one baby McDowell ;))
I rewatch your old videos sometimes and your confidence from before and now has like skyrocketed it's amazing.
Haha thank youu. Im really happy with the journey thus far!
This video will help me propagate my philodendron luxurian. Crossing my fingers 🤞 Thank you for this video 🌿
Good morning to you vary nice plans they all so beautiful and amazing thank you for sharing have a blessed day my friend
c 'est vraiment très intéressant, le retour sur ces plantations quelques semaines après, merci pour ces vidéos très complètes Shaun!
ur video and explanation are very therapeutic, almost the same effect as doing the gardening myself! thanks!
😀😀

I really enjoy your informative/humorous chatter 😊
😍 it's gorgeous. I couldn't help but notice it at the end of your last video.
Just got my self - gloriosum ... baby little thing so lets keep fingers crossed and hope it will grow well :)
I appreciate the info and how to be mindful of pesticides
You are awesome! Thanks for sharing all your experiences and knowledge so that we could do well in planting ❤️
At 9:07 when you said that a new leaf can come from the petiole, that is actually where the inflorescence comes from!
Ooooo so not a leaf but only inflorescent ya
I was about to write this haha
Sean, be safe. I am praying for your country and the against the Covid that has hit Indonesia. God be with you.
Thank you 🙏🏽
🥰😍Stunning leaves!!!!😍🥰
Always enjoy your sharing and very good information you give. Thanks a lot Sean. 🙏🙏🙏
Enjoyed your video. So much info to absorb.
We finally are getting rain..love our monsoons
i learn alot here and thx for the fast reply on tips that i was asking the other day.
So glad I’m not the only one who likes the smell of the gloriousum & hybrids 🤤🤤🤤 would definitely buy aromatherapy oil hahaha
Watch your new video at an enjoyable and hello, my dear friends wish the most beautiful day
If you plant the stem a few inches under the soil it grows around the inside of the pot rather than outside it.
Sweet. But high chance of rot this way ya

Yes i just filmed mamei actually, and accidentally proved that it didn’t like/want/need a moss pole 😀
You are so funny. “ Spoiler alert, it rotted” 🤣😂🤣 The McDowell with the billowy leaves is stunning 💚
The caterpillar posing for the photo 😭😭 what an expensive taste that funny lil guy has!
Haha yes it loved its 3 seconds of fame
Sean And Philodendron Great combination! :)
Thank you so much I be learned a lot to this video, waiting for your next video.

Sticky sap may be caused by scale? Is there a plant above this that may be dripping it?

Good job Sean..
If that's how prolific is it then it will be a good investment..
Hope to find some here that I can afford..
Get a kick out of your inserted comments…”it’s a boy” 😂🤣, thanks for your videos.
Man I've been missing your videos! Loved this one. Still hope you have a dubia care video coming soon! 😁

Woww… 70K already??? You fast, Sean. Ikut senang.
Thank you 🙈
I love your content Sean
Thank you Pai 🥰
I wish there was enough time in the day for you to make one of these propagation videos at least three times a week.

Haha you’re welcome dear
its really anxiety inducing every single time i see Sean untangle any roots 😂
This video makes me want to experiment and chop my one 😅
Lovely....
Sean… you’re funny! Love your videos..!
🙈
Can you make the video about philodendron pedatum and Florida ghost difference between?
Thanks for the video! Why many dark spots with yellow edging just appear in both leaves of my Dean McDowell? It might be fungal? How can I treat it without chop any leaves..

The growing eye will find its way through the moss
Yep all my growing pots have drainage holes. Its 110% a must

That might be fungus/bacteria, caused by misting of moisture on the leaves in less than ideal air flow. Feel free to DM with pics
Thank you
What is the sprinkles of blue atop of the MacDowell propergation cuttings ?? Hi from Australia 😊
That would be carbofuran, a controversial pesticide…
How can someone be so handsome 😍
🙈🙈
Realy nice
Can I propagate giant philodendron I to a pot for safe keeping in my collection before my move
Plant behind you but much bigger
I love how you seem to have limitless supply of planting pots at your fingertips anywhere anytime 😂
My Chinese evergreens and peace lilies are blooming..
Since my plant is extremely large, would it be a problem to cut the extended roots that are 1/2 inch in diameter? That is how huge the philodendron is . Leaves are 24 inches in length.
It shouldnt harm them to cut some of the roots 😀
Can also propagate it so you have a few 😅
😍❤️
Can you site your sources on the differences between Pastazanum and McDowell? I bought mine as a Pastazanum but it definitely has red cataphylls. I'm away from home to check the other signs.
Does it gave slight pink around the edge of leaves, and especially at the back of leaves where it meets the petiole?
@@onlyplants just got home, and yes it does. My seller told me that she grew it from a chonk so maybe she didn't know
Nice very nice

@@onlyplants Thank you so much! Ordering it for my Gloriosum that I also intend to propagate following your video. You work is AWESOME! :)
❤️💚
What type of pesticide do you use on the gloriosum?
The same as I do with all my plants 😀 I have an episode titled pest control that explains both the natural means and chemical means to control pest
😍💚
💚💚
Nice
Damn pretty 😭 where can i get that here in the Philippines
☘️❤
👍❤
Did you water them right after you propagate?
Always
Inscrito ❤🇧🇷
i never thought i will be this early Sean. it's good to see you again. 💚✌
At 17:20 I am literally taking a deeeeep breath
What is that purple speck of dust and what is it for?
Its called carbofuran, for pesticide. Its actually banned in some countries for its harm…
@@onlyplants Thank you.
Is it the same way propagating an Sp Columbia?
I have a feeling it is. That species is new to me
I thought we here in indonesia have the same problem when we thought we buy pastazanum but became mc dowel 😂😂😂 … i try found any pastazanum but cant find one always end the same mc dowel 🤣🤣🤣 … so i give up find pastazanum 🙄😂😂😂

Wooh interesting… they tend to creep sideways than climb upwards though, but your definition is correct!
How to hybrid it to become mcdowel?
Hehe you have to get a gloriosum and pastazanum to bone 🥰❤️🥰
@@onlyplants don't you wanna try to bone any philodendron and create yours new id's? who know you might success to bone or hybrid one.
I still can’t tell difference between this one and pastazanum ^^”
I am gonna have to disagree on the cataphyll. It is red on the pastazanum as well.
Interesting… I do need to pick up a pastazanum to see it up close.
dude use shears to cut - makes life so much easier lol
My gloriosim cost me more than my mcdowell 😢
Woooot that is the opposite here 😅
I think i killed her🥲…
If the nodes are not mush you can revive with single node wet stick propagations.
Thanks!
Time stamp your videos :)
