These videos have become a massive part of my week. Every Friday I finish work early to take my little girl to ballet. She goes off into a separate room and I’m left for 30 minutes to just relax and enjoy some me time……these videos are uploaded at around 4:15 uk time and I’m sat watching by 4:30. Thanks for keeping me entertained in my chill time 🎉
Xbox Project Scorpio(Xbox One X) Devkit. There is 1 HDD for Retail and 1 SSD for Build Deployement. The OneX was supposed to have an M.2 Inside for faster load times but the idea was dropped because of price, that's why there is trace, the PCB of Devkit and Retail is different. Apparently, someone tried to populate it, but it does nothing, the Software just doesn't care. The Additionnal Memory is for all the Debugging that happend behind. Activation works with a Token that is send by Microsoft Server when you connect it to internet, each Devkit has Unique ID, Devkit that are not supposed to be used are Blacklisted. I don't think it could play Games, even it retail mode, but if it does, you actually have a pretty nice Xbox One X Pro because the Devkit is more powerfull in Raw Power than the One X..
Definitely try that retail mod (and any similar mods you know of). A LOT of folks wonder about that stuff, but we lack the hardware to execute. You've got a boneyard of supplies!
I would love to see that M.2 video. Now I want to try it myself! Would seem like the hardware portion would be simple - it would be a matter if the software would be set up to recognize the presence. Sounds like a fun experiment!!!
Never would’ve I imagined that fixing electronics would become therapy sessions for me , but from one electronics engineer to another : keep up the great job, as long as you keep uploading I will keep watching.
that cracked and smoked component is called COF (chip on film) that directly connect to the glass on LCD screen with its TCON (timing controller) board, you will need to source the COF flex and attach it with specialized bonding machine, OR replace the whole lcd+COF+TCON assembly (not sure how generic they're) either way doesn't seem viable to do
The broken OLED can be replaced with any 256x64 OLED that has an Solomon Systech SSD1322-Controller on it. After looking up on google I found the CFAL25664B-Y-B1 but there should be some more that fit. So you could get that work. :)
I think you can replace the front screen with an oled 20x4 that has got the same "model number" but you will have to take apart the entire front. Edit: not 20x4 but 256*64
For sure, i doubt it'll work since it might need an m.2 controller but if you compare and add what's missing I'd love to see that. I'm sure Microsoft wouldn't be happy if it worked lol. Great video as always Steve.
Im not sure it would, from what happend to linus's kit and the kit on reddit, the second the conslole connects to any network it deactivates the console. Prob a prevention system they implemented
@@Notharius1 the prices are rediculous! i'm glad i purchased 9tb. it looks like buying that ammount now is a $450 price hike. pretty insane! where's the 4tb microsoft, you promised.
Never good when your Xbox rattles! This Xbox Dev is in good hands! Funny it still has the clear plastic protector on the back with everything else all scratched and dirty. Lol
am guessing it disables extra ram on retail mode? repairing display with custom one or any extras that dev kit has is kinda mute because you cant test it. nice vid
This isn't an Xbox One (Durango) devkit, this is a Series X (Scarlett) one. The Xbox One devkit had the ventillation on top and had no front panel LCD / buttons.
I'm interested to see what all could be done with the XDK these days, even well after the release o.o been a big fan of your videos for a long time, keep up the good work :)
The devkit and your ip are registered to microsoft to use the xdk mode. I have actual xbox 360 devkits and the psu on those needs to be pretty beefy too...like REALLY beefy. This is basically a fancy retail xbox now.
I figured someone in the comments would know how the devkit mode works. Sad that there would not be an easy workaround but I get why Microsoft would lock it down like that.
An M.2 slot transplant video would be interesting, but I can't imagine it wouldn't end in failure since you'd have no way of directing the motherboard to actually use it over the SATA connection; as far as I know, neither the Xbox One nor Xbox Series consoles have been successfully jailbroken in the last ten years (easily accessible devkit mode has removed a lot of the impetus to do so). But maybe I'm overlooking something; still, it'd be a neat idea.
That wasn't a devkit drive that you wiped, was it? If so, unfortunate. Always dump the drive before you wipe it. The devkit activation is done over the network, MSFT verifies you're authorized to use the kit and can disable the dev functions if not. This is what you ran into.
I would be really interested on that m2 slot I love this kind of projects no one has done it before so it would be really interesting and a good idea for a video !!
It will be great, if You try to run this m.2 on retail xox. Cactus_fabG_retail schematic shows that few more components missing than only m.2 connector: to enable m.2, to enable power for m.2, reset, serial lanes caps (etc) and probably reference clock from U35. You run this devkit in the retail mode so the chance is pretty huge for m.2 in retail console.
According to Scorpio Engine specs it has gen3x4 PCIe lanes dedicated for m.2 slot, that means we potentially can significantly improve drive speed. Another question does Xbox come with the nvme driver ? Also it won't boot from m.2 drive, coz it requires some sort of BIOS support, which is most likely missing. Still it would be nice to have extra storage for games. I vote for "m.2 video"!
I would suggest trying to get this to boot from the m.2 before trying to mod a retail board. (or at least see if it is available as additional storage)
Yeeess definitely yes !!! Edit: Does the SSD appear as a storage to install games? That could give everyone the unknown answer if it will work on retail
Excellent video! Can you see the SSD in the retail mode? if so try and copy a game from normal HD to SSD, think it may be hidden in normal retail mode?
I love to seeing hardware mods in retail devices. Definitely do that M.2 video

Hey Steve! I’d love to see a performance comparison between the retail XBOX ONE X and Dev Kit. Seems like this one has a lot more/ better hardware.
