  • I Paid $144 Each for 3 Broken One X's - AND Made Money! The eBay seller I bought these Xbox's from said they had the following problems: #1 wouldn't download games, #2 had error 203, and #3 showed no image. Of course I had to check them out myself and figured out that all Xbox #1 needed was to be updated. I love easy fixes like that. For Xbox #2 I found that it wouldn't update so I tried replacing the wifi board and also replaced the hard drive and then reconnected it to wifi. Once I got Xbox #3 open I could see someone had already tried to replace the retimer chip but hadn't done the best job so I replaced the chip with a new one. Overall the repairs weren't too difficult and I should be able to make about $80 each (less fees) when I sell these!

About This Video: I'm trying to fix 3 broken Xbox One X's that I bought on eBay for $144 each. They had a variety of problems including not downloading games, not updating, and not showing an image. After replacing a retimer chip, replacing a hard drive, replacing a wifi board, doing a USB hard drive update, reconnecting to wifi, and finally making sure all the consoles were updated I spent about $50 in parts and should be able to make about $80 (less fees) for each repaired console.

Didn't you try to fix a bunch of Xboxes before but couldn't get very far due to there not being schematics available online? Did something change? You certainly seem very familiar with problems with the system now. Did you ever fix those old Xboxes?

@@Tronicsfix I saw that you said that below. Also that you have plans to add a video about what you did with those old unfixable units. I await that with interest. Still, it seems like you did up your game when it came to fixing these. How did that happen if schematics were unavailable?

    • @Tronicsfix

@toddevangelista All of the fixes here were just based on my experience fixing them. There are a lot of things you can do without schematics but with many motherboard problems it can be pretty tough to figure out.

It can pay off, if you're lucky and know what you're doing. Recently I bought two PS3 slim for 20 Euro from a guy who does household clearances, both sold as defective, both working fine. I am going to keep one of them for my collection, the other one is up for sale on ebay at the moment, I have put custom firmware on both of them (that's basically all I did as a repair) and I hope I'll sell the PS3 on ebay for around 60 Euro. After shipping and ebay fees that would mean around 30 Euro profit and a free PS3 slim. On the other hand I also bought three gamecubes on ebay quite recently for about 50 Euro and all I can hope for is to break even on these. One is definitely not fixable, I am not even sure if I can use it for parts, because it has heavy water damage. The layers of the mainboard have started to come apart because of corosion. The other two I haven't tested yet, only opened the cases, they look ok, though. If I am lucky I can sell both for 20 Euro each (probably less, the cases have deep scratches and I'll have to add power supplies, which I still have laying around). One of the Gamecubes came with a Gameboy Player, which on it's own is also worth around 20 Euro, with the software I hope to get around 50 Euro. I wanted to keep one of the Gamecubes for my collection, but the condition is just too bad.
I am not doing this professionally, I mainly buy stuff I want to add to my own collection or want to try and fix.

I highly recommend checking out dewalt’s 8v max screw driver. It would be more precise than the orange one you were using, and it has a lot more power, actually enough power to drive a 3 inch wood screw into a 2x4. I recommend checking it out, I have one my self, and it is a very handy little tool.

I would recommend that you take out the hard drive as soon as you expect it‘s failing and plug it into a pc using a SATA to USB adapter. Then check it with a HDD test software like CrystalDiskInfo or something like that.

Loving your videos, thanks for the awesome and informative content. Much prefer watching this over something that I won't learn anything from, especially since this is still super entertaining.
My switch has liquid damage and after I cleaned the corrosion out like you showed in your videos, it works normal in dock. Only problem is that the back light won't turn on, so no display in handheld mode. Unfortunately I think it's because of a circuit path that's blown out, which I won't be able to fix myself.

Great video, love all of the ones I have viewed. I just love this kind of stuff. I am a helicopter mechanic and do electrical troubelshooting and repair as needed, but they don't let us do circuit board things because of those pesky federal regulations. I do want to ask if you have ever repaired a Razer Wolverine Ultimate controller or know of a place I could send mine to as I have one with a sticky A button. I don't have a problem attempting to try it myself, but these babies are a bit pricey for me to experiment on.Thanks again for the great video!

The more i watch these videos the more i want to learn how to fix electronics. Rlly don't know why i didn't go to school/uni for that. Had the chance several times (was always interested in electeonics, repairing stuff etc) but never though much of what i wanted to do in my future. Now i'm stuck with something that i don't rlly enjoy much...
Though i'm proud to say that i managed to clean the fan of my ps3 and put it aak together without any problems and it got so much more quiet (and doesn't occationally overheat anymore). Didn't feel up to taking it apart anymore that taking the lid off, power thingy out and the fan part out. Still notcompletely clean and definitly not as clean as my broken ps3 (played it a lot though it never collected any dust. Opened it up once bc i though dust was why it did what it did)...

Always wondered, how do you get started in the electronics business? Every time I watch one of either your or Rossmann's repair video's, I really think of trying to do this on the side. But how and where can you get the necessary information like ... how does this chip work, what is that capacitor for, what does this error code mean, etc., etc.
