Maybe use a bit of beta Canon and use the time when andoria temporarily left the federation and you can have the drama of a andorian captain struggling to decide whether to stay in starfleet or leave.
And the adventures of the ship could contrast his loyalties to his home with his oath will starfleet and the relationship of his crew

YES. The Andorian episodes are great, because you always wonder what shenanigans they're going to get up to (and let's be real, they're always up to something.) The hell of the thing, though, is that though they cause chaos, they actually mean well, and always seem to have a lot more in common with humanity. Even though they look down on United Earth technology, one gets the impression that they also kind of respect our efforts to explore despite being at such a disadvantage, and are kind of rooting for humanity to advance and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them.

The Andorians were better friends to Humanity simply because they were more relatable than the Vulcans were...more human. They taught us that the other alien factions in space, while different, were human enough that we could relate with them. What did the Vulcans do? The problem with Vulcans, Andorians etc. in the ENT - can be explained with one thing. They cancelled the freaking show - So after fixing Vulcans, and showing us a glimpse of Andorians and Tellerites, they finished everything with a Bullshit episode. So the entire path from First Mutual Operation of four Powers (Well 3 and Humanity, but Humanity was a glue) to making the Coalition of Planets was the PERFECT time to show us at least the four species in it's fullest. I really wish they would make the follow-up - I am usually against Prequels in ST, but it stops, when the Federation is formed - I would love to see the building of what would be in future Federation.

@@LoreReloaded In the beginning of ENT Vulcans were annoying, but it was fixed (whether you like the quality of fix - is VERY subjective - I like it for most part, but I can see people yelling "Bullshit" - and understand them too), and it seemed to be going in right direction where you had right amount of Diplomacy/Action/Exploration and opportunity to deliver A MASTERPIECE that would not destroy the Lore, but add to it (and it would be relatively easy - since 95% of the lore is about the time after the federation was established), and make a show that would not only be a good Star Trek, but a very good show overall. Unfortunately they wasted this potential with the last Episode being a farce and fan-baiting. And now I have enough head-canon of what happened between the last episode and Establishment of Coalition that I could write a book (unfortunately I'm not a good writer and as you can see, English is not even my first language). Or two.

What is most disappointing is the proposed next season of Enterprise which would have had a lot of Andorian influence, since Shran was going to join the Enterprise crew as an advisor. He was to instruct and assists with the new Andorian tech that Enterprise was going to be retrofitted with as a secondary hull (there are mock ups of the new look, which is proto TOS Enterprise, and why wasn't the NX referred to as the Enterprise class?).
And also Andoria would have wanted him there to counterbalance T'Pol and maybe make sure there wasn't too much Vulcan influence. The interaction between the two would have been interesting as they have a bitter history of conflict, but are trying to get along for the common good. And they would both agree on how crazy humanity is, and would make observations from an outsiders perspective. Imagine them sitting down with Flox and discussing human quirks. Then over time Vulcans and Andorians discover that they actually can get along and like each other, once they get past the posturing. And having to endure humans may be a bonding experience.
As for the story arc next season, apparently Trips death was faked for the history books, and he goes full Section 31 (against Romulans), which was what that last crappy* episode was about showing that the history books lie and the dark lie at the centre of the idealistic Federation.
Off topic but in another recent video I discussed in a thread why did the Federation go with the ship layout of the least advanced member, when pumping out Andorian ships with Vulcan tech add ons (or vice versa, maybe a hybrid of the two) would be the most efficient and battle proven design.
And the one reason (besides political) I could think of is that because of the rapid tech upgrades from the other powers, Starfleet ships were uniquely able to be retrofitted easily since they were built with the expectation that new tech would be installed regularly because they were playing catch up, while the other powers ships were built on the assumption that they were state of the art and there would be only minor refits with individual parts.
Perhaps that's why Starfleet refer to completely changing the look of a ship as a minor refit, when you've added extra hulls and completely replaced the technological basis of your ships in the past, new looking nacelles and a different bridge are minor.
      *Even worse than Voyager Endgame?
The Enterprise final was a planned red herring set up for shadow ops next season, not a quick 'the series canceled let's get them home with a deus ex machina' that ups the power level so much we have to get convoluted to explain why the Federation isn't kerb stomping everyone (Romulans, the Dominion in home turf if they get testy or don't reform) with ships that can one shot a Borg cube and can shrug off enemy fire with contempt. Seriously "we don't want the Borg to adapt to this" is the only argument the writers could use to explain why all Federation combat ships aren't ubermensch.
And if so why isn't the Federation building a bunch of Quantum slipstream battleships from the ground up to go take out the Borg before they recover from the transwarp hub (and adapt)… "So Seven, where are all these other hubs located?" Go to each one, maybe use the nearest left standing to get to the others fast, and blow them all then QS home in a few months or explore the new regions and keep hassling the Borg, knowing that reinforcements are being constructed and on the way. Destroy any Borg superstructures in space, and if being nasty deploy biogenic weapons on Borg planets (like with First Contact's plasma leak…hmm, I wonder if Section 31 got the plans for the Scimitar?).
Or just fire first when encountering Borg, rather than waiting for them to knock out half your shielding before one shoting the lot.
Admiral Janeway's tech is as big a leap as the concept of hyperspace ramming, except it's a controlled technology, not just a tactic anyone can use (Imagine if Leia from the future appeared and gave the Raddius an upgrade that could destroy a ISD with one shot and made it able to withstand point blank shots from the Supremacy).
Really the showrunners could have gone with a depressing final just for shock value (see Blake's 7), they crash land and have to set up a colony on a isolated world, go through a wormhole that leads to another galaxy, sacrifice themselves stopping some major calamity, or they end up joining another multi species alliance after Voyager gets trashed (I believe that's a parallel universe novel).
So basically the first wars with the Klingons and Romulans would have gone a lot better with Andorian battleships leading the way ?

    • @jhmcd2
      @jhmcd2 5 років тому +5

Okay, I know a lot of people have stated this, but your the one I am responding too. They actually had to fix the Vulcans because the problem with the Vulcan's started in First Contact. Recall, they were a major exploring power who clearly knew of Earth and had ships in the area and only came because of Earth's warp drive capability and saw the need to stay. This is in far contrast to how the Vulcan's operate in the 23rd and 24th centuries are as they seem to stay out of most of the affairs of the Federation, preferring pure pacifism and logic over all else. I believe in an interview with the creative staff the intent was always to show that development arc with the Vulcans but it was always suppose to be leading to a conflict with the Roumlans. It just didn't get that far because UPN was closed and Paramount didn't market Enterprise to any other network.

There is absolutely no way to create an ongoing extensive fictional universe that is absent any and all logical flaws or contradictions. And as proof I offer the fact that no such universe exists.
I also would remind you that among your favorite bits of trek lore are bound to be plenty that can only exist because they contradict something that came before. You seem to think that before some arbitrary point trek was some perfect cohesive thing, it never was.
Only people with no experience in producing their own compelling stories would fail to understand this.

The reason all ships use the same bridge layout is cultural contamination. As soon as a race makes first contact it see's how the more advanced race organises their bridge when they appear on the viewscreen. And it's not like being able to reverse engineer a warp core, putting consoles on certain locations doesn't require examining the ship physically.
As for the blue lighting, that does make sense. Klingons have dull muddy lighting that matches their skin, and humans use bright indirect light because we come in different colours.
Having blue light just flatters the skin tones and makes you look more confident, important for gaining that little psychological edge.

Honestly I think Andorians have largely been ignored by Trek. Sure you see occasional ones via licensed material, or books (which both aren't cannon sources) but otherwise outside of some episodes of TOS, some dialogue in TNG and DS9, and how they appeared in ENT largely Andorians aren't really even touched upon. The funny thing is the Tellerites have it worse. These are founding members of the Federation and you don't see them on Federation ships.
The Enterprise D has a freaking Klingon on their senior staff and not one other ship has an Andorian or Tellerite to speak of? Get the hell out.

Honestly, the bluish cast to the lighting just kind of makes sense outside of stylistic stuff: Andorians are probably very used to seeing light filtered through water ice, which scatters blue light, presumably that's associated with daytime and alertness when maybe warmer colors would be associated with gathering around a fire and chilling. :)
As for ship class nomenclature , there's only so many logical ways to do it. Basically, "A ship like the first one like this," ie, class names, ...model numbers, like the Klingons would often do, or maybe date of introduction, also like a model number.
It wouldn't make sense for, say the US Navy to call all destroyer types "American Destroyer" cause that could be like the USS The Sullivans or something far more high-tech and not even looking much like the first 'destroyers'.

ST: ENT established that the Vulcan society was being influenced by covert Romulan infiltration at the time the show started. Manny Coto restored the Vulcans to a more recognizable state in the fourth season. As for Andorians, I sort of view them as being a less malevolent version of the Cardassians... they're a military race at the time of ENT, but unlike the Cardassians, they can be reasoned with and aren't really seeking to expand themselves into an empire. I like that Andorian ships looked more like aircraft than ships. I would have enjoyed this video more if you hadn't taken so many unfair and, frankly, callow digs at ST: ENT. You almost never sound like you want to be doing a video when you do a video, also.

I will admit, that I have only ever had a chance to see the 2 part pilot of ST ENT, and it was "OK" compared to the original cast movies and was also "OK" compared to TNG... (thinks of STD) rrrrr, now that I think about the other episodic Trek shows of late, it was EPIC Real Trek!
Maybe, if, The Axanar that CBS shut down and promised us STD would be is allowed to actually happen as it was hinted at being in the 'Prelude' vid, then maybe I'll consider giving CBS money to see the rest of ST ENT. As of now, considering how Stage 9 was treated, I just can't feel good about Trek. I guess that's why I find Lore Reloaded's sarcastic continuity jokes just that much more enjoyable.

Enterprise is quite good. Although it's cramped and uneven - especially first 2 Seasons - but to be fair we got a bit of what ST is about- exploration - just seems that not EVERY M class planet has sentient life - what a shocker. And while I like the Time arc - without spoiling too much - it made things convoluted. It shouldn't have been used so often. Though again to be fair it is important in like 8 episodes at most? Of all four seasons.
And for me it has almost as good re-watch quality as DS9

I dislike writing, directing and the cast of ENT. But god damn I loved it's internal continuity. (Note I said internal. Not series wide. Wider cont. would have been better of course.)
That's why I appreciate ENT far more then VOY.

    • @jannegrey593
      @jannegrey593 5 років тому +3

@@randms2fake Yes - the whole Vulcan Arc for example - I would also be mad why Vulcans are such assholes - but then we find out. And not just off-screen - I think it was 3 episodes - this making change to Vulcans. As I wrote in another comment I wish there were more seasons because we could have gotten Diplomacy/Action/Exploration balance that would make it Great. I want to see how Coalition of Planets was established, even if it's from Enterprise perspective - they have updates, some more missions with Andorians/Tellerites/Vulcans etc.
As for your criticism - Cast is very subjective - I liked it although could have been better (Excpet Shran - Combs played him spectacularly - as freaking usual). Writing, especially in the beginning was horrible, but they were making progress, and by season four they were far better. Directing - that's hard to tell, because it is so intertwined with Writing, that it is hard to judge it on it's own - for me at least.
And if You're looking for a series that has the best continuity ever - Check out Stargate SG-1, if you haven't already. You don't even have to watch the movie - most of it is explained in the pilot. I just hope that you can look past the cheap props and little cringey first episodes (especially pilot). When you are in Season 8, and discover that something that was talked about in season 1 or 2 is still valid and important - they just made one mistake - continuity-wise - and they had to nerf (well not technically, but they stopped using one property) one of the alien weapons - I'm not going to spoil it for you or anyone else - just check it out - it's 10 seasons of Epic!

Way back in the 80’s and early 90’s with all the Fasa content it was said that it was the Andorians that introduced phaser and photon torpedo technology to the humans. They were supposed to be the inventors of the photon torpedo that was eventually emulated by all other races. Their ships were usually designed to be torpedo heavy. Even the Starfleet ships design by Andorian shipwrights were often designed as “torpedo cruisers” like the Andor class from Fasa. I miss all that early content. Way better than what they have today for cannon

Much like Vulcan High Command in Voyager, 31st century Vulcan cruiser in Enterprise and Vulcan Expeditionary Group in Discovery where Vulcans still kept a fleet of their own as well. Which means Starfleet alone was federalized. While MACO was disbanded and UESPA still remaining. TOS did mention Earth Forces sent to rescue Tarsus IV but we don't know much about it.

On lore's comment about the bridges all looking the same. This could be explained by the fact the Vulcans and Andorians were in a cold war and it is suggested that the Vulcans have better Tec and so the Andorians having a lot of info on Vulcan bridges would make scene and make scene in replicating it. Also Star Fleet while being slowed down by the Vulcans would have a lest a little knowledge of Vulcan and possible the bridges. Furthermore other races what are less advances or don't place value in advancement would find it easier to copy the largest powers in the reign. The Vulcans and the Andorians and the Klingons would likely just copy past for there ships.

Speculation: In all things warship related, the Vulcans are probably just half a step ahead. If either held an advantage over the other, open war would occur and that lesser side would be history. We know that Vulcan ships are able to do warp 7, with a secondary class rated at 6.5. It is feasible that Andorian ships are slower.
As for the comparison against the NX series, it spent most of its time at 4.5 and rarely more. Even if the Andorians can do warp 6 that is a huge difference in speed even if the NX is moving at warp 5.

It has been a while since I have seen an up close clear picture of an Andorian ship. Several of the details I think lend credibility to a theory I have been mulling over that fills in some gaps in franchise logic and helps draw evolutionary lines that better connect the ship designs in Discovery with the rest of the franchise.
The issue I have seen is that despite being a coalition of dozens to hundreds of worlds Starfleet ships seem almost strictly human in design and compliment.
We never see Andorian or Vulcan ships at Starfleet/ federation battles, they never seem to show up to defend the capital planet from probes or Borg or... other probes... or more Borg, and once or twice Romulans!
I already have a working theory as to why they chose the weakest of the member worlds to be their official military fleet, but the diverse styles of ships in Discovery I think go a long way towards showing that perhaps there was at one time more clear input from the other races.
The Andorian ship shown has similar nacelle forms to several Starfleet ships seen in DSC, they seem to lack the line of sight requirement usual to earth like starships. It's likely that ships like the Magee class are at least somewhat Andorian in design and structure, with a clear trend toward homogenization with what would be the standard Starfleet saucer based Design. The Magee in DSC was named the Shran no less!
So, in brief my theory is that after the founding of the federation the members were leery of each other and so chose the least capable of them to be their "standing" military arm with the other worlds fleets largely standing down unless required.
This right away reinforces the idea of Starfleet coming in piece and preferring not to fight, they didnt exactly have the means to stomp around the quadrant starting shit.
A century later around the time of DSC the status quo had evolved to a point where member worlds were actively contributing to Starfleet in design and personnel, remember Sppck was the very first Vulcan to actually join the organization that had existed for nearly a century! It's not surprising that we see ships more resembling Andorian tech than Vulcan ring ships, though we do see a Vulcan shuttle in TMP perhaps 15-20 years later that has nacelles similar to DSC era ships.
But it's around the DSC era that we see a noticable trend, the hodgepodge of designs and features of the old fleet are replaced with a more modular design ethic very much rooted in old earth Starfleet with the introduction of the Constitution class starship.
From this point the fleet takes on the commonly seen "kitbash" Look we are mostly familiar with. Instead of a bunch of ships vaguely adhering to some standard they are all designed to fit perfectly within a set of classes and sub classes. Each generation tending to start with a new flag ship sized model that gives birth to several sub classes sharing similar architecture and tech, and each subclass gaining several variants.
This tactic makes sense since federation space must be getting quite voluminous at this point and they are still actively pushing out into deep space. Even though we mostly see ships alone or in pairs the fleet must number in the thousands at least to get even the thinnest coverage of their space.
Then, I like to think things came full circle, in response to the Borg threat they must have done the only logical thing. A fleet of technologically identical ships is the last thing you want facing that kind of enemy so they drew on what would be the one asset the Borg would always lack, diversity. Instead of every new ship in the fleet coming from variants of the same mold engineers and designers of all types across the federation went to work designing ships that attacked the problem from their unique perspectives. So by the time of the battle of 001 the ships we see are not all of the same mold, they are nearly as diverse in form and function as the old pre Constitution fleet.

While it may have taken some time, within a few years the new starships would have had the best technology available. By the time the Constitutions were built, certainly they would represent the best of all the Federation member worlds. That said, the Constitutions might well have Vulcan transporters, Andorian phasers and the best warp drive the finest minds in the Federation could produce. It almost certainly far surpassed the 22nd century Human, Andorian and Vulcan ships in almost every respect, so the best speed we could expect out of a Vulcan or Andorian ship of this era? 3:36 I never realized Voyager's captain's chair was genuine Andorian leather.

Nothing personal, but I loved the Last episode of Enterprise, I love it and watch it every day (then I hacked up a lung). No, I think that last episode was thrown together at the last minute as apparently the creative staff was already well into planning the next season when the cancellation was announced. As a result, they wanted to use it in a way that would hopefully drum up more approval for the show and traditionally that's been a Diana and Will cameo episode. But the Andorian ships were tough, but since they aren't the hero ship of the show, they don't get much love which is pretty typical of the franchise as a whole. To be honest, sometimes its better that way. Just think of how people saw the Borg before Voyage, then afterwards. Sometimes its the mystery that makes them seem better.

6:00 I thought it was good just had a issue with the placement of it, it should have been riker finally pandering over his promotion and it being a longtime coming for the titan and yadyada archer inspires him.

By the end of STE, I came out liking the Andorians more than the Vulcans... The Vulcans came off to high & mighty

Given that even in TOS, Vulcans are seen as arrogant, that means they were doing it right. :)

I think the Kumari got pretty good coverage for being a guest ship. Pretty cool design too. Practical but with flair. Too bad Eaglemoss is out of stock.

this is ridiculously nitpicky but technically the klingons were a beta quadrant (based) power... it always bothered me in DS9 when they talked about having to save the alpha quadrant since the other two major powers fighting the dominion were the romulan star empire and the klingons- both in the beta quadrant.

TOS 10, 11 and 12 equate to roughly TNG 7.94, 8.65 and 9.32. So probably warp 8 capable.

Damn I’ve got to watch this show again. I never made it all the way through and now have to see the final episode. My wife has (finally) discovered Star Trek, and we’ve been going chronologically- and are in Season 3 of Voyager now. (Her fav so far, although she’s super partial to Nog on DS9). Can’t wait to get to Enterprise. #thatTHEMEthough, #andoriansrock

you are wrong, the most advance species in enterprise era of alpha quadrant is definitely romulan, they already have stealth and a single unmanned ship of theirs capable of effectively waging a covert war, not to mention extremely hard to destroy with insane dogging capability
while vulkans often get a serious bitch slap from many other race, such as tholians

A good video once again but just had a thought. Was thinking of the purposes new patrick Stuart show coming. Well I am just after watching star gate sg1, the episode where jack O’Neil was cloned but the clone was a younger version.
Well wouldn’t it be a good new show where the younger O’Neil is now with the sgc but now he is like the carter character, the brains (remember he decided to go back to school) but with the O’Neil sarcasm.
I think it could work and oh ya have carter as commander of the sgc as well.
    What do us all think
