Many of these Sikh immigrants were influenced by the Khalistani separatist movement, which sought to establish an independent Sikh state called Khalistan in Punjab, India.
In the 1980s, tension between Khalistani supporters and the Indian government escalated, leading to acts of violence and terrorism in India. Some Sikh-Canadian individuals and organizations were accused of providing financial and logistical support to Khalistani militants.
One of the most notorious events was the 1985 Air India bombing, where Flight 182 was destroyed, resulting in 329 deaths. This incident remains the deadliest act of aviation terrorism in Canadian history, and Khalistani extremists were implicated.

Nikhil contradicts his own statement- On the one hand he is saying majority Sikh in Canada don't support khalistan and on the other hand he says that there is vote politics.If majority of Canadian Sikhs are against khalistan then politicians should have gone with anti-khalistan notion.
it's true. the majority of canadian sikhs don't support khalistan. only the generations of sikhs who moved to canada during the 80s and 90s support khalistan. Those who went there after 90s, the mojority of them have spent years of their lives here in india. they know things very well. so, they don't support khalistan. yes, it is also true that they don't speak against it. if they do, they will be threatened and attacked by khalistani supporters as they come in gruops.
as a sikh, I don't want to live in a country that will be surrounded by two nuclear powered countries and one of the nuclear powered country has the history of invasion i.e. pakistan. and, since these khalistanis hate india and attack indians, the relationship will be bad with india as well

Information is incomplete. Pakistan side Punjab is not included because it was agreed upon during partition by sikh leaders. INC promised Master Tara singh a Punajbi suba so as to get sikh support and also in return Baldev Singh was appointed the defence minister. The promises made were broken and the Indian Punjab was further divided. Punjabi suba lehar was suppressed. Further escalation took place because Indira canal and SYL issue. This created a situation of mistrust. Some elements took advantage of sikh sentiments and spread terrorism in Punjab. Pakistan aided this movement as a revenge for 1971 partition.

Although it is practically impossible to create Khalistan, even if we consider it as a genuine fundamental demand despite its violent methods. However, there are a few points that we shouldn't miss here.
1. Punjab doesn't mean a Sikhistan; Sikhs are less than 60% in Indian Punjab; out of 20, there are 3 districts in Punjab that are Hindu majority like Nawashaher, Hoshiyapur and Jalandhar and 7 have 40% + Hindu population. Factually khalistanis can't claim these, infact the Khalistanis should be thankful to the Hindu population of Punjab that they were able to retain the present-day Punjab in India and are in the position to demand a separate country now. During partition, had Hindus not been there, no district apart from the Faridkot state could have been given to India, as Sikhs were in the majority in none of the districts apart from the Faridkot state; it is a clear backstabbing on Punjabi Hindus.
2. India has around 2.5 crore Sikhs, out of whom only about 1.6 crore live in Punjab, rest all are in other states; what will happen to them? In this subcontinent partition has always been bloodied, Khalistanis are already so anti-Hindu, for sure they won't allow any Hindus to live with them, but what will happen to a crore Sikhs living outside Punjab? The way Jinnah thought about Indian muslims, khalistanis want sikhs outside Punjab to be slaughtered for their fantasy ?
3. I know a large number of Sikhs, specifically jatt sikhs are either supporters of this demand or dont oppose it, but what will happen to those who want to live in this country, which has traces of their gurus in almost every part of India ? first for the fantasies of Muslim separatists, they lost Talwandi sahib, Kartarpur sahib and lot many other holy places, now they will lose access to so many holy places from Hemkunt sahib, to Patna sahib, to Sachkhand etc.

The lack of publicly available statistics on asylum grants based on Khalistan persecution highlights the need for further investigation. Somebody needs to collect all the statistics and publish them and open the Canadian government's eyes. Please have your staff, analyze those statistics and bring the scandal into open.
