मेरे वालीद जो मुरादाबाद के देहात के रहनेवाले थे वो मेरे बचपन मे अक्सर सुलताना डाकू के किस्से सुनाते थे उन किस्सो मे सुलताना डाकू गरीबो को जमीनदारों और सरकार के कारिन्दारो के जुल्मों से हीफाज़त करता था आज का एपीसोड सुनकर मेरे वालिद जिन्हे गुजरे चालीस सल से ज्यादा हो गए उन की याद ताजा हो गई

Sultana daku occupied patthar garh fort built by najib ud daula long after him
when he was about to be hanged by British
British officer asked why he became dacoit
He said
They were too poor in their child hood
One day there was nothing to eat
He stole a hen or egg from somewhere
His mother appreciated him for the theft by giving him shabashi on his back
He said
" agar uss din meri maa meri peeth pe shabashi ki jagah mere muh par thappad maarti toh main kabhi daku nahi banta"
He has Robin hood kind of image among locals
even today
Sultana daku has more respect than Uttar Pradesh Police for sure

We were in Ranikhet in year 1962. We were class of geology field trip . We were about 10 guys. Can’t find any accommodation in any small hotels or guest houses. One Kumuni gentleman named Mr. Pande a small time contractor living outside Ranikhet accommodated us in his home for about 10 days. He won’t accept mine! We used to be in his contact for years and are grateful! Corbett was right!

The Lallantop also make a video on human- wildlife conflict in Uttarakhand. It is a very sensitive issue. Also there are some modern day Jim Corbett of Uttarakhand like Mr. Joy Hukil who is also my friend and has killed nearly 43 man eating leopards in Uttarakhand.
As I write this comment, Mr. Hukil is present in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand in search of a man eater leopard who killed a 6 years old boy recently.
