- And still sounds sweet to me.... Ladies Night in Buffalo Vibes. I just came across this clip from the Steve Vai Episode of Guitar Gods I did during lock down and I thought I'd share it without all of the talking over it....😂 Who else loved the David Lee Roth years? And the Whitesnake to be honest.... A great era in Vai's career I think....

@@yoteslaya7296Sorry, but you‘re wrong. Steve developed the JEM with Ibanez on the basis of his other guitars played at that time. The RG series was in fact designed after the JEM, a superstrat more appealing to the masses.
He really perfected his unique sound on PaW and I would never want to take that away from him. It's one of my fav albums of all time, but he came up with some of the most thoughtful riffs and solos of the hard rock era on Eat em and Smile. Limited to the 3. minute pop song format made him squeeze out some absolute diamonds from his playing. I'll die happy if I ever own one of those floral pattern JEMs. Amazing playing Alex, you did that justice!

To this day I still consider the Eat Em And Smile album to be one of the best guitar albums ever, and Skyscraper also come close to that same level. That JEM sounds wonderful, as do your fingers playing it. 🙂 Merry Christmas!!
Skyscraper was crapola , not even rock songs on it . Loved eat em and smile did security watching. Ais dressing room for the whitesnake tour , and saw DLR first tour with Vai Bisonette and Sheehan . But skyscraper ? Even the hit was mediocre ( paradise )

If I’m not mistaken, the Floral JEM had the Dimarzio PAF Pro pickups in it. Great sounding pickups!
it did indeed, I had one in the 80s, as well as a Desert Yellow one. Unfortunately they are long gone.

Wow! I always preferred the PAF Pro pickups over the Evolution, does it have the 250k pots? That was the biggest roadblock to getting great tone out of the JEM
I have a 1990 jem in desert yellow. Unfortunately the previous owner had replaced the PAF Pro in the bridge position with a non F-spaced Duncan. I replaced it with a Tone Zone.
Wonderfull album with David Lee Roth, and Billy Sheehan, great titles in this one !

Yeah, these Fujigen Ibanez guitars are build like tanks.
A friend has a 2001 RG570 Prestige, which he upgraded the pickups to Dimarzio EVOs and that thing is an absolute workhorse.

My PL2550 absolutely smoked my Jem for inherant tone. I had this exact guitar. I wanted it more than anything in the world… it ranked as my biggest gear disappointment of all time. I changed the bridge pickup 3 times, mounted the pickups to the wood. I eventually went back to my PL2550 which every sound engineer loved.
Oh Wow, what a shame man... That's the first time I've ever heard an account like that.. Very sorry to hear it... Although at least you have a guitar you seem happy with in the PL2550. All the best 👍 🎸 🙏

I remember when I was 15 years old I worked at my local guitar store for 2 weeks(through my school as job training) and mostly I just played guitars all day, it was magnificent. This was around year 2000. One of the guitars I tried was a Steve Vai signature model. It was like the most expensive electric guitar in there, which was cool to me as a kid, and my goodness it played so beautifully! It was white with some details/scrollwork on it.
Anyway, the one you have there looks much cooler imo

I sadly purchased my dream guitar (Jem 7VWH) when I could actually afford it.
... I got a premium version as the 7VWH wasn't available and I simply didn't want a PIA.
The 7VWH was my dream guitar since I was around 15 years old. I'm 36 now.
It was a disappointment.
Certainly won't be buying any "premium" Ibanez guitars again so long as my lungs breathe air.
But, I'd give a kidney for one of the old stock.

I used to work for an Ibanez distributor in the 80's. There's about a one out of four chance that I set that guitar up. Growing nostalgic here.

@@AlexHutchingsMusic I worked for Chesbro Music Co. in my hometown of Idaho Falls Idaho from 1981 - 1997. There were two other Ibanez distributers at that time, Hoshino in Pennsylvania, and Hoshino west in California. My first few years there I worked for the wholesale side and set up Guitars that were sent out to dealers. I eventually moved over to the retail side and sold band and string instruments, Guitars, and sound systems. Shortly after I left and went back to school to get an electronics degree, Hoshino in Japan cut them off. Glad I wasn't there when that happened. It was fun while it lasted.

I have to say I lost interest in all the shredding business years ago when I grew tired of hearing and watching everyone (even kids) kill the fretboard with their insane technique and mastery. However, few captured my attention as not many had phrasing and musicality like you do! I’m actually inspired again, thanks to you Alex!
