thanks for enabling the subtitles in the video, so I can read it already translated, I don't speak English, I'll try to fix my DS lite with the same problem, thanks!
Looks like the previous owner shoved a game in backwards and then yanked it out while the pins caught on the plastic of the cartridge. Looking as a DS cart of my own, that's what seems most likely.
Check the soldering of the pins to the pcb. I'd also partially insert a game and with the slot open and exposed look at each pin to make sure they are contacting. If all that looks good then it's probably an electrical issue deeper in the board and not mechanical.
Howdy mate, I did the same... took the card reader apart and put it together just to find out the cartridge wasn't clicking ... searching around me I found a little piece , which I believe is the same you had lost. Can u explain where or how to put it back... no idea where it came from or how it's mounted lol. Thanks
I explain the three parts around 10 minutes into this video. Basically you need to insert the plastic slider bit that clicks into the side of the cart, then the spring through the hole in the back and then finally the L shaped metal piece that goes into the end of the spring and carefully put the metal shielding lid back on top of the whole cart slot. The L metal piece may need to be pushed in far enough so it clicks into holes in the top metal shield, which is what holds it in and stops it from pinging out.
I followed the same process, got the L-shaped piece in to hold the spring but the cartridge won't latch in, it gets pushed out by the same spring. I figure the slider doesn't lock into position somehow - did you experience something like this?
My ds lite only reads the games sometimes, 😢 the pins seem to all be good, I've tried putting game in before I turn it on, after, reinserting etc.. any suggestions? Thank you
Not a good idea inserting/removing a game with power on as it can damage the game. The fact it intermittently reads games suggests the pins either aren't fully clean or slightly misaligned. I'd carefully inspect and clean them before ruling them out.
I have the exact same blue Ds and the hinge broke in the same spot. I’m gonna order some parts to fix it all. Also my volume doesn’t work anymore I think the speakers may have broke. So imma replace it all.
Either the contacts under the button metal snap dome need to be cleaned, the bottom of the snap dome is dirty, or the metal snap dome itself is worn and needs replacement (they sell replacement stickers of these). I've made a cleaning video for a 3ds non-xl version for this problem a few years ago.
When I inspected the ribbon under magnification the tear was on the end with super fine traces and quite a few of them seemed to need repair, unfortunately it would've just been too difficult for me.
I have a white evolution card and i can open it on my DS but it only shows a white screen and when i take out the card while my DS is on it shows the loading bar for a sec and then my upper screen is black and my lower screen white- what can i do about it?
I've only used r4 cards so I don't specifically know what's up with your evolution card. I'd try reloading the firmware file though in case it's somehow soft bricked. You'll have to google the process if your card has upgradable firmware.
ive been trying to figure out why mine wont read. it reads the r4 card sometimes but crashes back screen when i launch the cart. there was once i pushed on the back shell pretty hard flexing plastic and it read the cart and also showed the games so was hopeful. was able to launch the game folder up and game for 4 seconds then crashed . after that i got it to read couple more time for quick sec now it wont read it at all. none of the pins have corrosion or bend left to right . hard to tell if maybe there just pushed too far down not making contact anymore. also the ds had a paper shim in the slot when i got it im assuming to add extra pressure . thinking i can pull the pins down without taking the shell apart if they need to be at a certain height . any thoughts on the pin height would be much appreciated.
Sounds like all the pins are not making good contact. I wouldn't suggest trying to pry them up from the slot opening without opening the case though. Way too easy to misalign them as the metal is quite thin/fragile.
I'm having a problem with my New 3DS XL in being able to eject my cartridge from the slot. Your video is the best one I've found as to what the mechanism of the cartridge slot spring is (I'm certain that's where the problem is). How much will I have to take apart to try and possibly fix it? Unfortunately don't have any experience taking apart a 3DS XL and the most I've taken apart is a GBA/GBA SP. So I'm guessing the complexity of the process increases exponentially by the generation. 3DSs are getting really expensive now and everything else about my device works perfectly fine. If I take the back cover off and eject the cartridge then, it comes out easily but the issue is that taking apart the back cover of a 3DS XL every time I want to do it is a big hassle (with the two screws that I'm constantly afraid of stripping) Would really appreciate it if you could guide me in the right direction!
The general process will be very similar to this video, except the number of screws and their location. If I had to guess something is gumming up your eject spring mechanism so you'll have to open your cart slot up (very carefully to avoid damaging nearby components) and give it an inspection and possibly clean it.
@@sjm4306 Aah gotcha. Thanks for the reply! Watching a detailed video of a 3DS XL being opened up is probably going to be my first port of call. But watching this video of yours all the way through and seeing all the challenges you had with the cover of cartridge slot have not reduced my anxiety about this haha
My biggest suggestion is to watch out for the spring or tiny pieces pinging off when you open/close the metal lid. If they fly off they will probably disappear into the ether lol.

I had to replace a pin that was broken, and just finding out I could take the plate off really helped .. thank you. Now I can play Pokemon Pearl
Nice fix. The pins turned out great 👍👍👍
Thanks, my favorite fixes are the ones that dont require me to order and wait for parts to arrive lol!
@@sjm4306 Likewise!! 🤣👍👍

hello, i have this problem too, but the pins are perfectly fine. not dirty, no damage. do you have an idea of what it might be? :(

Hey man just opened my DS lite to clean with 96 alcohol both cartridges. After cleaning they still don't work. What do you recommend friend?
Mind if I ask what song you used for the intro? It slaps!

nice..! thanks for letting us know this kind of technique.
I need to understand where to put the C inside to make the spring click properly and that part of the video was not uploaded to UA-cam! 😑
What microscope do you use? Can you link it for me?
It's an Andonstar AD407 ebay.us/dWfhza

Not sure what’s wrong with my 3ds xl but the b button has to be pushed down hard to read the input any clue what could fix ut

Are you still fixing ds lites! Mine is old and it won’t read the ds card.
Did you ever end up fixing the black DS lite's screen ribbon?
When I inspected the ribbon under magnification the tear was on the end with super fine traces and quite a few of them seemed to need repair, unfortunately it would've just been too difficult for me.
@@sjm4306 thanks for the quick reply! I'm facing a similar issue and am going to probably have to swap the whole screen out as well.
Yes I need this tool no the tweezers but the other one
