To anyone trying to learn TCF timing, the charged shot travels at 10m/s, use your laser pointer and count the seconds

@@aperks The speed of the charged shot -- what they mentioned -- does not change. The normal shot that follows it up can vary, of course, so you do need to adjust for that.
Thanks for sorting this out. This trick always felt like some pro-gamer mystery to me.
I like 22122 with Energy Rerouting so I can use the normal shots more for killing far away bugs. I would even say that it's better than using Heat Pipe 22222 because although the charge speed isn't nearly as fast, it's still fast enough to be able to use your implosions as grenades during combat while also being able to shoot anything that is too far without quickly overheating, it's also just as ammo efficient.
I just started playing a week ago bc of the steam sale and found your vids very helpful! I unlocked the epc gun today and have been practicing using it bc of your vids!

8:37 I always use the *outer rim (red triangles) of the crosshair, lining them up with the surface I wanna remove.* Works like a charm, never hits the surface, but is always very close to it. Best EPC lifehack I've discovered. And you're actually demonstrating it right there ( 8:55 & 9:48 ) but not saying it lol

@@agustindora1701 Once you promote your first character you will be able to start deep dives and unlock the forge. This is when you will be able to start making overclocks for your characters weapons.

I've always liked the pure speed build, personally.
It's AMAZING for clearing downed allies of bugs on Haz5 as well as intercepting Mactera swarms as they spawn in or cluster up to fire on you.
I used to prefer the heat pipe setup, but found that in a number of niche dire situations, those extra few moments of charging time can often be the difference between life and death.

I'm a driller main and I'm blue level 60 constantly going for driller attachments and still haven't gotten any of the beneficial ones for EPC :'(
You didn't mention how great EPC is against egg stuff, or Mac bombers
I think he didn't mention those benefits because it's not that great for eggs, because of their shape you have to use more than one charge shot and because the actual eggs are in the center you have to try and epc them head on, which is not easy. Plus, engineer could make a staircase or help a scout, scout can easily mine a foothold because eggs are one hit, or a gunner could zip up, driller could drill up. You get the idea, high up eggs are not an ideal use for the epc.

Thanks for the guide I'm looking forward to getting the relevant overclocks, but I'm also curious about the EPCs non mining applications, do you have any tips on how to use heavy hitter and the unstable overclocks?
Heavy Hitter could be good if you’re running the Cryo cannon as well and come up against bigger targets, but I find it not to be as useful against dreadnoughts unless you have another driller with you freezing as well, which is super fun! The unstable ones I’ve only gotten entertainment purposes out of it:)
Heavy hitter is for normal shot combat. TCF is very strong but its weakness is that it still only does 240 damage to frozen targets. Running 12322/HH alongside the cryo cannon, you can deal 120 damage per normal shot to frozen targets, which matches the 240 damage of a TCF implosion with just two ammo. So basically you use it like you would the Subata with the flamer: freeze your target, then blast them with M1 spam until they're dead.
The unstable OCs aren't very good mathematically, they are a bit fun to play around with but if you don't know what you're doing and just want a good charge shot build, I'd suggest sticking to what Axis says in the video.
the fire mod in the last tier coupled with the cryo cannon is pretty nice to temperature shock for a nice bit of dmg. like for praetorians, freeze, 1 axe, and usually about 1-2 epc shots kills em
Surprised nobody mentioned Persistant Plasma. It's a pretty good Overclock and has 0 downsides if you are using TCF. It's good against swarmers and other pesky bugs

Any chance of a tutorial on farming overclocks? I'm a driller main who EPC mines often but I still haven't came across heat pipe.
Doing your weekly core hunt and both deep dives can net you up to 6 possible weapon overclocks per week, however you can also earn more weapon overclocks through the forge mastery if you have spare credits and minerals. It cycles between weapon and cosmetic with every level, other than that brother it’s a waiting game until everything refreshes. Took me until player level 140 to get them all because I took a break from the game for like a few months but you could probably get them sooner!Hope this was helpful, Rock and Stone :)
There really isn't a way to farm OC's because you only get 3 blank and 3 preset cores a week, and there's no way to guarantee that you'll get a machine event. On top of that, there's only two weapon slots for infusing blanks so you might not even get driller ocs out of those blank cores. Like the other guy said, just make sure you do your dd's and core hunt every week.
I've personally started to run 3 complex 1 hazard Aquarks missions. Machine events tend to spawn there. And you don't need to finish the mission if you finished the event. And deep dive solo is possible to do too, with scout and bosco's 3 revives that rephresh every stage, it usually takes me 45 minutes to do the normal Deep Dive.

cause the only 2 builds i see for it are sticky flame and facemelter, which always means use other weapons more often than the flamethrower,
is there a way of full time using it and just literaly set the underworld on fire ?

how do I not overheat when using heatpipe? it feels like it's a one frame window between overheat and fully charged
This was effected by update 34, your best be now is to use 22122 with energy rerouting. It’s the closest thing to old epc we have, that said it does feel pretty poor compared to the old spec

Well builds for this after U34 hasn't changed except for heatpipe since it's so much more difficult to use with it but you never want to use it nearly as much for mining giving how it can be very punishing but it's still great for combat so I still run 22122 and energy rerouting cause I still find it absolutely broken for combat and apparently that wasn't the thing that needed a nerf this update

Devs talked about the EPC in last weeks stream. From the way they were talking.... It's 100% getting nerfed or completely removed and i understand why they think the way they do. It does make the Driller super self reliant and makes mining non existent
got a clip of the vod? just for context. I understand that EPC is strong, but whats frustrating about this whole situation is that its the most fun mechanic in the game currently. Not just because of its strength but for how rewarding it is to learn and master. If we're gonna sacrifice fun for the sake of balance in a PvE game I see it as a step in the wrong direction.
@@AxisKronos sadly no, I don’t remember what deep dive it was either. But it was a solid 5-10 minutes discussing it. They acknowledged the skill for it and want more things like that in the game. But the EPC takes away from the co op nature of the game as well disturbs their co op philosophy and design. (Simplified but that’s the just of their conversation) I think the biggest issue for them is that it’s restricted to one class. I can try and look for it

I also want to say they talked about it in the other deep dive. But can’t confirm. It’s just one of those questions that gets asked a lot. Like the firing range.

EPC mining makes the minerals get launched when I am mining, but in this video it does not. How did you do this AxisKronos?
This was a change made in update 34 as an attempt to balance EPC, a lot of people, myself included, are not thrilled by this change. Just the way it is now...

It has to be oufitted with the "Thin Containment Field" upgrade,

Yes, although the stats have changed slightly. At its core however, EPC mining is still amazing

Actually the best build for the epc is 2 2 1 2 2 and the energy rerouting overclock. Heat pipe's charge speed is lower than energy rerouting and the only benefit you get from heat pipe is less ammo consumed by the charge shot but other that that it is inferior in every way and you get extra ammo from energy rerouting so use the clean overclock version instead.
taking crystal capacitors in the 3rd tier gives us much more charge speed when using heat pipe for the same ammo economy as with rerouting. i think you may have misread the stats somewhere, please take a look at 22222 HP vs 22122 ER ingame at your earliest convivence.
@@AxisKronos Actually according to the in game stats with the all 2 build for heat pipe we would get less charge speed but it would still be better than the base of the heat pipe over clock by 50 but we would only lose charge speed which is not really a problem in some cases but if it really is a problem then pick heat pipe otherwise you can actually use your primary shot better with more ammo.
@@AxisKronos and if speed is an issue then use regular shot of epc as you could freeze your enemies.
In order to beat the charge speed of 22222 heat pipe you cant take ammo efficiency in the 3rd tier while using energy rerouting. This will cause you to use 9 ammo per shot instead of a very slightly slower, and massively more ammo efficient build with heat pipe. This is shown both in the video and in game stats. I can't quite make out what your point is here, if you are wanting to use the normal shots more, than you are better off just taking heavy hitter and going without EPC mining. If you try to mix and match you are going to get a lukewarm version of both build that excels at neither.
@@AxisKronos its not fast but you have a cryo cannon and its only about a second to fire and its pretty good at both because you have the power of the mining and the speed of the regular shots and would you like to have kill a menace with thin containment field? My point is is that its charge speed isnt too bad or too fast and can dish out regular shots which could help off load some of the ammo consumption of the cryo cannon if you want to take out a few enemies without overheating and its pretty decent at both. You can try it but I don't expect you to like it but at least I will be the only person running this epc build.

@@leem4279 it's completely random, you have no more control when it comes to mining with EPC. The only way it's worth using for a lot of minerals is if you have a scout that's very eager to go pick up minerals laying everywhere on the ground

Every time I place a platform down under a mineral vein and scout goes to get it. Then Sometimes I see this god damn purple ball coming in and just doing it all for us. Tbh I feel like the weapon shouldn’t be able to mine since it decreases teamwork and is just straight up boring.
More boring than it is for the scout who people would tell that his entire job is holding right click on veins of nitra? if you haven't tried this weapon for yourself i highly recommend it, it's fun to use and far more difficult and interesting in practice than you might think
Has EPC mining been removed / nerfed hard with the latest patch? Haven't played in a while until today and I was unable to consistently not-overload on the very first overcharged projectile D: Using the heatpipe build. I only got 2 to work, is the timing harder or something?

Correct, the game sees fire damage and temperature differently. Breach cutter also does fire damage, but doesn't burn enemies. Fire damage has lots of utility effects, only thing it misses out on is temp shock.

Great video! What if you have an experienced engi and scout working well together, so the EPC can be used as a sidearm? What would be good builds for long-range, area, and frozen enemy combos?
I like to run vampyr on my cryo / epc driller to refill health while fighting by drilling into frozen enemies. But if you're good at mining with epc, health usually wont be an issue as you're just shooting down all red sugar thats available.
heat pipe is annoying as hell to use
I realy like drg but I don't find it as fun without friends and none of my friends have it so yeah
By and large, the community is really friendly and willing to goof off. I've had a lot of fun playing with internet randoms, but your mileage may vary.
pro tip never disturb a EPC miner
as long as they aren't shooting me while epc mining I'm cool with it. Some drillers can't seem to be able to discern a vein of gold with a dwarf.

It seems like you get a lot less minerals when knocking them down with guns that you do mining regularly with the pickaxe.
A few months ago, I heard on Reddit that this was tested on a deep dive where the same nitra vein will hold the same amount. Both pickaxe and TCF mining came up with the same about.
The only exception is when you factor in beer buffs like dark morkite or pots of gold. That bonus is pickaxe only.
This timing damn hard to learn

Damn i spent all day getting heat pipe and 22222 just for 22122 no overclock to work better. I should dislike this video but that wouldnt help anyone. You should take this down or at least put a note in the title or description saying its outdated and none of it works anymore

Enjoy it while it lasts, devs probably are going to remove this feature from the EPC as it's fairly overpowered in terms of the game's design philosophy.
Hopefully they'll remove it quickly. EPC mining ruins the intended synergy of scout + engineer. Getting tired of drillers blasting away minerals quicker than scout + engineer can mine them.
Not a big fan of TCF mining. Especially in coop most players dont even look and dish out regular friendly fire damage. Also Scout feels even more useless in full teams. I really hope they tackle the whole TCF Situation soon.
A good Scout does a lot more than mine minerals. So if anything this frees him up to do more in combat and accelerates traversal overall. As far as FF goes, those people should be more careful for sure.
Agree with axis on this one. Anyone who looks at TCF mining as a negative to scouts, definitely is an ass scout.

PvE game, balance is significantly less important than fun and unique game mechanics. It's far less boring then holding right click.
