That's a massive difference between the 22LR and the magnum rimfires. I'd love to see the comparison between the 22 Magnum and the 17 HMR at say 50 or 100 yards were they are used for hunting. Greatly appreciate your time in doing and sharing these videos. Cheers!

I have Henry Golden Boy lever action in 17 HMR.... I typically use CCI Varment loads that travel at 2550 fps. Very accurate rifle up to 200 yards (limited distance on my range) and tears up small game. Both calibers in this video are great rounds that pack a lot of punch for the money.....very affordable rounds even these days. Good video, I'll have to duplicate the paper plate test with a Varment load just for fun. Thanks for posting!

That's 39 more plates & a bigger hole for better bleeding if you happen to take bigger critters. To me 22 mags & 410's make great survival / prepping rifles. You can find them in very small & light carbines / rifles / guns & or even hand guns. The ammo is lightweight & both offer a wide variety of options. Both can be used in a pinch as defensive gun & both can put medium sized game on the table if needed. Great video mate.
I love all of the rimfire & 410 videos.
A chiapa little badger 22 mag / 410 would be close to perfect imo.

Cool vid. Thanks. Wished some pistol manufacturer would make like a 20 round small sized 1911 .22 mag. pistol. One with smooth clean lines. The .22 mag is way more powerful and destructive than most believe.

How in the world did I miss seeing this earlier! This is the best test you could have done with rimfires! The only other similar tests that you need to review that you haven't yet is the comparison between your .500 Jeffrey and the .50BMG with the full metal jackets!
With regard to this test, the fact that the
17 HMR tumbled somewhat, as you mentioned, and thereby expanded was responsible for it's poorer performance.
I've tested them both many times in the same types of medium, and the .17 HMR will almost always win...as long as it doesn't tumble (which it rarely does)! Your paper plates actually are a surprisingly tough penetration medium as it's effect on bullet upset is pretty pronounced! Thanks as always, for another excellent video and again, please consider the same comparison tests between the two
.50's, as noted above! If I can be of any help with that, please let me know! Take care and keep your powder dry!

That was a fun and interesting test, but I was distracted by:
    1) Unaware that chambers were empty
    2) Chambered another round in both guns after completing the 1 shot test
    3) Set 2 presumed loaded rifles carelessly on the edge of a mattress....guess what fell?
That was some sloppy firearms handling.

Surprised at the BIG difference between 22LR and 22Mag. 22Mag vs 17Hmr, not so much. Well done, Who Tee!

I'm going to say the .22WMR will penetrate deeper. The .17hmr is a sizzler of a round; but I think it will expend all or most of its energy early.
    How many plates?
    .22WMR: I think 50 +/- 5
    17hmr: I think 35 +/- 3
Paper is tough. If I remember correctly, Edwin Sarkisian managed to stop a 20mm with a ream or 2 of copy paper.

Good show Wtw, love my Marlin .17 hmr . Can you do paper plates and water jugs with the Bad Ass .444 Marlin . Haven't found much info on them. Factory ammo 240gr at 2500fps, should be a fun video, thanks Wtw have a good day

1:45 at the school I went to, the .17hmr is exactly half the weight of the .22wmr in this comparison 😂👍

that explains why the paper plates i picked up at Sam's had holes in them .😁

Great video, I'm a. 22 and. 22 mag fan 1st and foremost. However I would really like to see you do a video at say 50 to 75 yards. Approximately at game range. Thank you and keep up the great work.

my only comment is maybe the pinching of the plates is what caused the 17 to stop sooner? (more compressed/denser?)

    I haven’t found a 17 that’s opened up yet even with a polymer tip

What do you mean opened up? The fmj bullets don’t expand very well but the ballistic tips expand to the point of explosion inside animals or targets of any kind.

.22 mag has almost 3x the muzzle energy, most people don't realize that.
