Glad to see some fellow country boys country boys having some fun. Love a .22 mag and a .17, but damn at ten yards even off handed y’all should be able to do a little better than that. Adam, it seems like you win almost every time you guys play PIG. I’ve been watching Paul’s videos every morning and he is really improving! It looks like he was ready for you tonight! This was fun!
Hello, I’ve got a 22 WMR and a 17 HMR that both shoot sub MOA , until I shoot them another day. Both are free floated and bedded at lug and tang. Both have smooth and light triggers. I’m using same rounds as the first time. They blow up to 2 and 3 inches at 100 yards. I’ve tried cleaning the barrel and not cleaning it. I’ve run a couple or several fouling rounds thru it. Still scratching my head. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
" If you can shoot a penny you can shoot a squirrel" is right up there with " If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy!" You need to put that on a shirt. I bet it would sell😁

My favorite .22 rimfire is the Long Rifle. The "Magnum" rimfire rounds are too expensive. What's wrong with the .22 Hornet? Don't people handload any more?
That looks like some fun shooting. But at ten yards I think I could dust all four pennies with my old H&K .22 mag revolver without reloading. Not really boasting, just saying. LoL.

I have both 17hmr and 22 mag myself. Both shoot lights out. I just bought a Henry lever action 22 mag today. I haven’t shot it yet but will before the weekend is over.
.22 mag is still my favorite. Look at the much bigger hole the .22 made. Even though the .17 is faster, the .22 hits harder and leaves a much bigger hole because the bullet has more that twice the weight and bigger diameter. I absolutely love my .22 mag.
That's fun. Two old guys shooting small targets off hand. Real skills to do this. If your like me my sight requires optics. Great video, thanks for posting.
When my boys were little we would do the same thing. We also used to see who could be the first one to shoot the tip off an aerosol can too. Great video
My Marlin .22 mag bolt shoots 1 inch at 100 yards from the bench. But not freehand, I have to have a rest. My scoped Torus .17 shoots a lousy bench rest group, one inch at 10 yards, one cylinder has a flier.
Yikes!... defacing currency during a coin shortage, huh? Wait... do I hear a train coming? Excuse me while I run out back & put some nickles on the tracks...😁
I think the Marlin with the bull barrel has a tad better close range accuracy, especially if it has the micro groove rifling. Out at 75 to a hundred yards or more I think the 22 mag would out do the 17 hmr. I'd love to see a longer range competition between the two.
I was shooting my 17HMR last year at 50 yards , knew I hit where I was aiming once but never saw another hole , turns out they were all going though the same hole. Savage Model 93 bullbarrel in 17 is the most accurate rifle I have ever shot and definitely the most fun. I'd shoot my 17 over my 6.5 300 and 338 all day long
My Marlin 22LR with a wood stock and standard barrel was my first gun I got as a kid and it never got any less enjoyable over the years despite having fired many types of weapons. I think every family should own at least one of the rimfire varieties for learning, practicality, cost effectiveness and overall enjoyment.
@@revolutionarygentleman8105 I have to agree , a Rimfire , eslically a very accurate one will make you a better shooter , my 17 has taught me to breath and how to steadily hold a rifle , you can blame misses on flinch and recoil with every other caliber , but a rim fire would cannot , they have ZERO recoil , where you pull the trigger is where ots going
I have a friend that shoot the 17 her and the 17 hornet He shoots the cat squirrel at a hair over 200 yds with the hornet He was a sniper in nam in the mis sixties
That was a cool challenge between calibers. Got me wanting to try this with my Airforce Condor SS .25 vs Hatsan bullboss .22. Both are high powered air rifles and are match stick accurate. Should be pretty fun to try this.
I think my preference will always be the 22mag. I'm in Australia and I found it to be sweet on foxes, rabbits and feral cats out to around 100 yards. I'm really enjoying your channel 👍👍
try the 17 hmr version of what WTW was shooting...thats my main coyote gun..super accurate awesome trigger...and i dont have to worry about a miss going super far and hitting a house or anything cause they drop after flying straight for 200 yards and ricochets are rare as any time they hit something solid they just vapourize
So you all still have firearms in Australia? You may want to keep them on the down low to use against the tyrannical powers that be up in your life. You’re children will thank you 😊.
If you train with your firearm, you should be able to hit whatever you're shooting at. I have a NEF 17HMR and it shots just as good as any high dollar 17HMR I have.
Those are the shiniest rounds I've ever seen. I have one of those heritage revolvers that fires both .22lr and .22hmr I love the mags. They blow a nice fireball
When I was young, I took my dad's Marlin 22 target shooting. I set up 1 dime at 25 yds and hit it with the first shot. I kept that dime for years but lost it.
Way back in the day when I was a spec-4 in the army, I challenged my squad leader to a 100 yard contest with the old M16A2 rifles. We put 1 quarter each centered on silhouettes. This was peep sights back then too, from the prone unsupported position. We both went 3 for 3 but his 3 were tighter grouped. My last shot was on the rim of the coin, all three of his were inside the rim. To this day he's one of the best shots I've ever known. He thinks I'm a great shot but I know he's better
At 10 yards, should have just done, iron sights, straight up, no scopes. Both are accurate up to 100 yards, so 10 yards. Depending on gun, shooter etc. This is all comments before challenge, follow up to see what happens. Fun to watch. I've shot 22 WMRs, want to get a 17Hmr just for fun target plinking. Been going back and forth for like a year on which I want. If I was a rich man, I'd have both, and a .338 lapua, whole bunch I want. I really want that lever action Marlin 45-70. Personally I think the Savage A .17 HMR 17 grain is the best bunny gun on the market right now, shoots straight and over double the velocity of the .22 LR. @@WHOTEEWHO Check out SHORT LANE, you can Google them. They are rifled and are pretty accurate IMHO. Of course, I have never put them to the test other than paper at 25, 40, and 50 meters and they hit the target. The 17 HMR kinda drifts in wind BTW. They make them in all handgun calibers. I also found a guy in Alaska that makes them in rifle calibers that are the length of the shotgun barrel!
Great idea! I'm going home today and making up a bunch of 4x4s with pennies siliconed on so I have them at the ready for competition! I think i want to try them at 50 yards though.
Tack driver. Start at 25 yards. Then 50 and 100 yards. Drive a roofing nail in the center of a paper plate. When you knock the plate down, move to next distance. See how many shots it takes to drop the three plates. Fewest shots wins. Caliber of your choice. Not timed, but fewest shots. (Safe). Use same gun or personal favorite. 22 LR can be a good choice. Change it up and use a different gun at each distance.
The mechanical offset between the height of the scope over the bore is pretty great at that close of a range. It requires you to aim nearly as high over the target as the center of the scope is over the bore.
Great vid... my first gun was a 17hmr. Remington 597 semi auto. They had a recall but it was a ripoff and I kept mine because I don't have any problems with it..... we were at an outside dnr range and with my father-in-law we got it sighted in. We were hitting dime size groups at a 100 yards... Later went out with the wife. We used clothes pins to hold up our paper targets. As we left I had the bright idea to shoot the part of the clothes pin that you squeeze to open it, thinking the paper would fall.... they didn't thought I was missing. I walked up to the target. I had broke the the tops of the pins off that I was aiming at.
Shooting close with a scope is definitely harder than it looks because of the sight curve and your right, you actually have to hold over to hit at such a short distance.
Nice video! I got my savage 93F on the way. Was a steal not to grab immediately. I got a major coyote problem in my backyard come fall/winter time. Seems to be the state predator here in Missouri! Will have to talk to my neighbors and see if they're OK with me takin these dogs out from my deck this winter. Ordered the Hornady 30g vmax and A22 CCI 35g game points. Can't wait to zero in the rifle this week. Keep those 22WMR vids coming!
Both are great rounds but I went with .22 magnum since I can use it in pistols too plus if it’s windy which seems like always that .17 will be all over the place. I think you’ll like the CZ rifles for these calibers if you give them a shot
22 mag is a great round I'm in Australia have shot with a 22 mag for more than 20 years lots of dead foxes out to 100 meters even further at times. Nice comparison keep up the good work

As we left I had the bright idea to shoot the part of the clothes pin that you squeeze to open it, thinking the paper would fall.... they didn't thought I was missing. I walked up to the target. I had broke the the tops of the pins off that I was aiming at.
Gotta love 17hmr
Always great with you and Paul!! 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching Chuck!
Great video glad I got to watch live also
17 hmr.brutally accuracy
I love my Savage Model 93 in 22 Mag! I have the FVSR with the Accutrigger. Its sooo feather light!
Very nice
I have the .17 hmr in that same gun. Love it! Agreed that trigger is a feather! I think my next rifle will be a savage accutrigger
Essentially the same quqlity rifles and sights with comparable ammo. Best shot wins.
Awesome video! Man, I’m really torn on this one. I own both, and love both. I guess I answered my own question!
I love em all!
Where you at in MO? I took one last year while squirrel hunting, and took him down with 22 lr, (two holes in him)
@@usa-rb5fi just west of STL. They're also some democratic coyotes out here that I've seen wearing masks and social distancing. 😁
Nice comparison keep up the good work
Man i love the 22 mag, i have a marlin 25mn bolt action and a ruger 22lr/22 mag single six pistol love them both.
Love the 17HMR over the 22WMR
Went shooting a while back..had a 9mm, 40sw, 2.23 and a 2shot 22mag. The 22mag was louder than everything.
At such short range guy's, Centerline of scope to centerline of Bore difference is your hold over!
KnifeMaker
The gun that shot Lincoln was a .44 caliber derringer...
But you couldn't just leave it at that could you?
Good video again Who Tee. I like both rounds.
I love em all!
They’ve got a new ammo out, it’s called Norma snockers.
I thought the name was E Norma Snockers.
What range were you pre sighted in at?
25 yards
I hate pennies too. But this is a whole new level of grievance.
