I am not happy with performance in the sand.... OK I'm sure it is my skill level. But, deep soft sand, forget it. Front tire sucks in and the bike goes over.

I've watched many videos about the 790R. This video is the one that convinced me I must buy that bike. I ride a 1290S and love it but it needs a little brother! I want to play in the dirt! Ride fast... Enjoy!
Do it!! I just bought one, it is awesome! got the akrapovic and quickshift option from the getgo. I recommend taking those options asap but you can get EVERY option (KTM powerparts) aftermarket, same price. But where I bought it they told me you just gotta pay assembly if you buy aftermarket and you don't put the stuff on yourself ^^.
Seriously SERIOUSLY thinking about getting off my SDR for one of these - or the 890 Adv R. If I can find an unsold 890 R Rally, it will make my choice for me.
Would be awesome to get a suspension cam mounted to show how good the 790 R suspension handles the bumps. Really hope you take the 790 on a big adventure ride.
Great video Tom, that looked like fun - wait till you try it with good rubber! Rally mode 3 with throttle in Street mode is a good all rounder setting (yes, you can wheelie then). Also, if you like the mirrors a bit lower you can remove both the spacer adapter thingys and swap sides (the adapters are both opposite threads top and bottom, so don't force them). The 790's are deceptively light and fun - right up to the point where suddenly they aren't, enjoy finding that limit :)
Keep an eye on the rear shock for leaking and the front headlight mounts for cracking with all those jumps! My 790 has been treated easy and only on 3000km but have a suspicion some corrugated roads on a quick 4 day trip caused the shock to fail and headlight mounts to crack. Shock is waiting on parts, frame warranty repair has only just been submitted and waiting to hear the outcome.
Bob Sacamano yes. I thought I was quite lucky after reading some of the issues and not experiencing them. Then spotted the reported oil sump leak, then leaking rear shock and then the cracked headlight mounts. The headlight mounts being most worrying as it requires a complete frame swap as they are not allowed to weld new ones on, it apparently being a design issue with the 1090’s and other models and breaking is common enough for multiple manufacturers to produce reinforcements.
Here I was thinking you were pulling power wheelies in 5th gear until you explained the modes 😂. I did wonder why the number wasn’t changing as I heard you changing gears.
I love this bike and I also love the 1200 Xe Trumpy scrambler, and I want to chose a favourite. The scrambler is supposed to go well off road, but I need a comparison. It's lighter than 1200 adventure bikes, all torque, top brakes and suspension... retro frame and motor = less performance?, but whatever the competition has, I like the 1200 motor more... just has to be light enough for me to throw around. More like, pick up from when I drop it on 4WD tracks. Same tracks like you just did... quite possibly there, coz that looks like VIC to me. Whaddya reckon?
I'm curious about what bike you would prefer for long distances on unpaved roads - the 790 or the 690? Despite you being really unlucky with yours, wouldn’t be the 690 the better bike if reliability wasn’t a factor?

Rally throttle response is way too agressive for me. 'Offroad' is very soft and doesn't feel direct/natural either.. I keep it on 'street' all the time but I'd love to have something between street and rally
I had already bought the wolfman, and Kriega gave me the Kriegas so I got the slim ones to be different, I will give a review on them in the next video

Tom havent you learned your leason, KTMs dont last in you back yard, should have bought the Yamaha, they much better, slower but better. Nice bike. Hope it give you many happy miles.
no doubt the ktm is a better machine then the yamaha. BUT ktm you do pay heaps more and in the past bikes have some issues with reliability. The mt-07 motor is very strong and reliable. The T700 will be a far better machine in terms of Price and less technology to go wrong. Ktm will be bitch to repair in 10 years, The MT-07 sounds better as well. Less engine gear whine and more exhaust note. Cant beat the 270° 4 stroke sound. The nuda 900 was is the best sound you can ever hear :)
I would highly recommend viewers do NOT take this riders excitement without a pinch of salt - the BMW GS series has far more to offer. Refinement and stability beyond all peers. The mother of the entire adventure category and still the best, better than many dirt bikes off the road, and better than many road bikes on the road. The true swiss army knife of motorcycles. See a documentary called "The Long Way Round" starring Hollywood actor Ewan McGregor. BMW is the only option for critical productions. Is your adventure a critical production? just trolling
They do look so good though. Can't have it all. You could have the best road tyres but anywhere there's not some good tarmac you're completely screwed. Even grass

In my opinion you should take a look to the new yamaha 700 teneré! It's a lot more capable offroad, while maintaining the comfort on the road
