    Thank you so much for this review, I was one of the people who requested it. I’m so glad to hear your positive review of it as after trying just about every high priced food on the market this is the only one that doesn’t make my dog scratch himself until he’s raw. Within one week he’s acting like a puppy, tons of energy and is happy. I’m looking forward to your videos on corn!

    Glad I found THIS particular review of yours. We've been troubleshooting our dog's allergic reaction, for about 2 months now. Went from taking her off Farmer's, which we believed to be the culprit, as we had switched her to that, to then trying different kibble. You name it, we tried it. Finally, after 4 previous vets, went and saw a dermatologist. After a bunch of tests and views under the microscope, he recommended we take her off the z/d (been on it for about a month with no improvement), and put her on Purina Pro Plan sensitive skin/stomach salmon, in conjunction with 4 once a week doses of ivermectin(possible mites, not detectable). We let him know she is allergic to at least chicken, and the z/d as you know, has hydrolyzed chicken liver. He stated he did not have great confidence in the z/d when it came to some pet's levels of allergies to chicken.

    I looked at the dry matter basis for Kitten Chow and it also seemed spot on. Why is it so much cheaper than other Purina food? Are the ingredients lower quality?

    • @AnimalDocRea

      It may be that they use lower cost ingredients, doesn’t mean they aren’t nutritious obviously because they can make it fit a nutrient parameter even more expensive brands cannot. It may also mean they don’t add any of the extras like vitamin packs or glucosamine, probiotics

    it’s the percentage of ingredients. If both food brands have 21% protein and one has 16% of that as chicken and another one has 16% soy protein. Both meet the 21% protein checkmark but they are not the same quality

      @johnviera3884 and that’s fine, but we are talking optimal nutrition of animals as a species, not humans. soy allows you to balance minerals and keep protein high. Pet food is about performance and need, not human desire. At least that’s what we are talking about on this channel.

    Can you explain to me what the heck the ingredient animal digest is?

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  5 місяців тому +1

      Animal digest is a high-quality ingredient made from animal protein that is often used in pet food. The term "digest" refers to the process used to produce it, which breaks down animal protein into peptides using enzymes and acids, similar to digestion in the body. The resulting digest can be a liquid, paste, or powder.

    • @deleqtronica8733
      @deleqtronica8733 7 місяців тому

      @alesanchez87 not every dog needs the same kibble, but corn being the primary food source for any dog is not optimal for them. Corn is the hardest grain to digest, even humans have a hard time and our intestines are much longer than that of dogs. Corn has very low food value to dogs, and will usually come out the way it came in. Corn is beneficial in small quantities as it's rich in fiber but that's the only advantage it really has to an alternative food source. Purina isn't loading corn in Dog Chow because it's healthy for the dog, they do it because it's extremely cheap and brings down the cost of production and the price they can sell the product at. At the end of the day you can feed your dog whatever you like, the science behind dog food and their nutritional requirements are not where it should be at the moment, we can only do the best we can based off of the knowledge we have from whatever limited studies there are, I personally would never feed Dog Chow or any dog food with the primary source being corn to my dogs based off all the readings I have done.

    Hey, appreciate the reference pintd but I gotta say, this is not good advise. Jsut because this dog food is considered ok dog food for meeting the basic requirements does not mean it is good. You can feed your kids McDonald's and tacobell every day, it is food so you are feeding them... Or you can feed your kids good nutritious meals. Corn meal as a main ingredient...again meeting the bare minimum requirements. Corn meal is known to be a cause obesity, digestive issues and intestinal blockage. Don't feed your kids tace bell and mcdonalds every day, spend a little more money if you can to feed them a good diet.

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  2 місяці тому +2

      I think what you are missing is what most pet food marketers want you to miss. This false metaphor to McDonald’s is very common and unfortunately misguided. The difference between McDonald’s and a pet food that is “complete and balanced” is stark. McDonald’s doesn’t formulate there food to be a nutrient balanced meal for a humans entire life. It is made to be tasty and to be an occasional treat. This is NOT what budget foods are. Budget foods are 100% formulated for everyday feeding. McDonald would be more like a milkbone. Tasty treat but not made for nutrition for the long run. Think more along the lines of baby formula…complete and balanced to sustain life. We would not say that enfamil is McDonald’s. The analogy is just inaccurate and misleading and whoever started it had a complete lack of nutrition education or was banking on people repeating it lacked knowledge. I am trying to gently educate that this mindset is incorrect and give you the tools to help yourself work through it. I would recommend you watch the following video and read through the comment section, I think you may find dit an interesting perspective.

      @AnimalDocRea sorry but no. Purina dogchow is cheap garbage. Balance nutrition with cornmeal as a primary ingredient is a joke. And no my opinions are not just me following other blindly. I've seen what a dog chow diet does to a dogs overall health. The only claim dogchow has for itself is that it is considered "dog food"
