Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

My rescued lab mix ate chicken most of her life (this was when I was young and less educated). She developed a severe allergy to chicken and the vet pulled all poultry around age 11.5. She had lost 15lbs and I thought she was going to die. I did hundreds of hours of research on how to make my own dog food for her and she is still here at age 14 and has gained all her weight back. Now that she is nearing the end of her life, due to age, I am continuing my educational journey. Thank you for all of your time and sharing so much with us. 🙏🏻❤️

Despite having dogs my whole life, i have been voraiciously reading dog training and psychology books lately given my little "maligator" has a mind of her own (extremely smart but obstinate) , and this one ranks among the best.

We used The Farmer's Dog DIY Nutrient mix to home cook fresh food for several months, and it was about a quarter less expensive (including the price of buying foods from the grocery store) than their regular dog food, and I was able to use organic ingredients. It would probably be even cheaper if you aren't using organic ingredients. It does mean having to cook, but their recipes are easy to follow and don't require any difficult to buy ingredients. The downside is that one of my dogs had problems with how high the carbs were in their recipes, so we had to cancel and put her on a lower carb dog food. When I contacted them, they said that they were considering creating lower carb recipes, and I'd love it if others let them know that they're interested in lower carb dog food.

My 2 year old mini Aussie has been eating Ollie for about 8 months now. We started with the mixed meal plan. She loved it right away, not much difficulty with transition (we followed steps provided). Around the holidays a lot of supply issues started to occur. The baked food was no longer available so Ollie was nice and switched to fully fresh food for same price.
Once the baked option became available we decided to just stick with the fresh food. She rotates between all the flavor options. She is happy and healthy and loves meal time.
Cost is definitely expensive but y’all know how it is that’s our child so we make the sacrifice so we can have as much time with her as possible

We feed Farmer’s Dog, one package a day, half in the morning, half in the evening. We don’t cut the bag in half like you did. We cut the top and then pinch the food in the bag to split it. This makes it easy to empty only half in the dog’s bowl and leaves you half the back to fold over and clip to seal it until evening. It doesn’t prevent all leakage but with a folder paper towel in the bottom the container Farmer’s Dog sends will usually last the whole 3 week cycle. I’m curious why you didn’t address the lack of grain in both products. There are almost no vets not recommending a grain free diet due to the heart conditions that appear to be caused by a lack of grain in the dog’s diet. We add cooked barley to our dog’s food to make up for this shortcoming.

Does anyone else have misgivings about very small quantity of food contained in each portion? Our two smallish dogs love the Farmer's Dog food, but it looks like such a tiny portion in their bowls, and takes them around 30 seconds to eat. FD will tell you that this is because their food is 'nutrient-rich', but I worry that my dogs will still feel hungry after they've eaten, because there's no bulk (what used to be called 'roughage') to this food. (I've noticed that the actual portion size is absolutely NOTHING LIKE the huge portion shown in the FD television ads!) So does anyone else feel there's not enough bulk in these foods to fill up your dog, or am I worrying unnecessarily?

You write: "If they maintain their weight then the recommended portion sizing is right for your dog." But if you read my post I'm not talking about the nutritive value of the portions, I'm concerned at the small SIZE of them - their lack of bulk. No matter how well-balanced are the portions, if my dogs are still hungry after they've eaten because they aren't satiated, then they'll be looking for alternative food sources all day.
You further claim that making the food yourself at home and adding calcium vitamin/mineral powder "gives the owner complete control over the quality of the meat." This sounds terribly naive. Unless you're raising cattle or chickens on your own farm and killing and processing them yourself, you have no control whatsoever over the quality of the meat. American food quality regulation is extremely lax compared to other developed countries - for both pet and human food. Quality control usually consists of companies cutting whatever corners they want, followed by people getting sick (or dying), followed by a limited recall, followed by...well, business as usual.
Also, you cannot know what's going into the vitamin/mineral powder, because like all US vitamin and mineral supplements, that stuff isn't regulated either. It doesn't have to comply with any FDA standard; and we all know what a terrific job the food and drug industry does of regulating itself.

I had my Silky Terrier skin tested for allergies at Michigan State U. vet clinic with a dermatologist. Skin testing in humans and dogs is usually considered the "gold standard." My dog was definitely allergic to some trees, grass, dust and mold. I gave him allergy shots from the special mixture of serum made up at MSU. It takes a while. After about a year, I could see a marked difference in the scratching. It was much better, almost gone. This is just my experience. I hope this is helpful!

The puptainer and scoop that comes with Ollie is amazing. I love that it is included in the initial order. I use them both every meal time. @@zander1971shorty Wow. It's a shame that you feel that if your dog is "hungry", that he is Healthy. That is 100% NOT true. Hunger does NOT equate to being healthy and they are not related at all. What goes for dogs, go for people as well. When ANY living being is healthy, this means they are getting the PROPER NUTRIENTS that the body needs to be healthy. When a dog is HUNGRY, it means it is NOT getting enough food to make them feel satiated. SO, if YOU as a child had parents that raised you saying "A hungry child is a healthy child", then you would be absolutely miserable growing up. To keep you hungry, then have the nerve to say THAT"S what's keeping you healthy? Do you know how you felt as a child growing up, and you felt hungry at times? Actually your stomach would hurt at times from it. You felt miserable. I hope you are a decent enough human being to NOT REALLY feel that you should have your dog hungry. And I certainly hope you don't have kids as well, and do for them the same. As an adult, by now, you know what that would feel like. And if you are a decent human being, you would would never stoop that low, trying to convince yourself that that is proper thinking. Let's all be responsible pet owners and good humans and treat our dogs how ***WE*** would want to be treated. They deserve it. This is coming from someone who has a vet as a relative, so trust me...I know what I'm saying is true. Take care.

my dogs have been eating farmer’s dog for about a year with very good results. a good way to get the food out of the packaging is to thaw it halfway. then cut and empty into container. it usually all comes out in one piece.

I’ve never tried either of the brands, but from what I saw in the video, I think I’d rather choose The Farmer’s Dog (mainly because I felt it was it was more customizable and because of the amount of carbs compared to Ollie). I also LOVED this video and thought it was really interesting! Although I don’t have any specific brands that I want to see being compared, I hope there are more videos similar to this in the future :)!!!

I’ve been feeding 50% Farmers Dog (rotating chicken, pork, and turkey) and 50% Bones & Co (rotating lamb, beef, and duck). My pup gets so excited for her food at mealtimes!
However, I do plan to travel with her internationally and bringing frozen food with us will be a customs issue - I would love to hear a review on non-kibble travel alternatives! (I’m guessing freeze-dried but don’t know much about the best options brand by brand yet).

I have received two Farmer's Dog orders now and I received the disposable container with both boxes. My Boxer/Beagle checks out her bowl every time she goes by it when going in and out. And about 30 min before feeding time, she gets in my face until I get up and follow her ... to her bowl. She loves this. I have a wire tray thing in my chest freezer that stores the food great She followed me down to the chest freezer when I got the second box. That is something else she now does. Takes me to the top of the stairs. I haven't tried Ollie. I also ordered your pumpkin. She doesn't seem to care much for it. But on the Farmers Dog food she sniffs, looks at me, sniffs again then eats. Without the pumpkin she dives in and gobbles it up. Thank you much for your review.

If you're having issues with loose stools, I always recommend Fresh Pet. There's just no comparison. It's not that their food is the best or most nutritious, so I wouldn't say only feed your dog Fresh Pet. But I've noticed many times as soon as you get a dog on Fresh Pet their stools are picture perfect, dark and compact. I don't know what they figured out at the company but it's impressive. There isn't any transitional period either as the food is hydrated / fresh, it won't dehydrate a dog like kibble.

I watched this video because I am planning to switch over to a raw based diet for my dogs. The farmer's dog offers venison, which I really like for dogs. I get some from my neighbors who hunt but would like a more consistent source. I did have to smile at the care you take for switching your dogs to a different food. My dogs are actual farm dogs and you never know from day-to-day what they get into to eat, from horse manure to some long-dead roadkill that even the vultures left. But I did enjoy this review and found the information in it useful.

Thank you so much for your video! Wonderful. I have been doing the Farmer's Dog DIY for about 3 months. Previously, I home cooked for my Gus on my own since 2015. He is 11. I have to admit, I was not used to (or comfortable) with feeding him carrots and sweet potatoes all the time, and white rice. Their DIY recipes, at least for turkey, don't have much variety. I still don't know why white rice is the preferred grain and not brown. They suggest to not substitute ingredients. When I cooked for him using my recipes, I would usually rotate 3 different veggies every 3 weeks (ex. broccoli, zucchini,, kale then next cook, green beans, spinach, cucumbers). So, really not used to there not being a lot of variety to work with on the Farmer's DIY. I guess jury is still out, for me at least. Gus is having a blast. Then again, he has been loving meal time since he was a kid.

We do the Farmer’s Dog DIY, rotating between beef, chicken, and pork. (The odor of ground turkey cooking makes me gag.) DIY is about half the cost (or less) of their ready to eat, so that saves some serious money! Yes, it takes time, but only about 90 minutes if you’re organized. I feed straight FD DIY, no kibble split. It runs about $2 or so per day, so quite affordable. Of course my little Maximilian (a Pom-Chi) weighs less than 8 lbs. And when I occasionally don’t have time to cook, I feed him Ollie. FD isn’t sold in stores, but fortunately Ollie is sold at Petco. Since they are essentially the same thing, fresh food gently cooked, Maxi can switch occasionally without any digestive upset. 😊 A one pound pack of Ollie costs $11 and lasts him 2 days, so that’s $5.50 per day. More than double DIY!

I can’t say enough about how convenient it is for us as Sophie’s parents but after a month she is showing signs of not wanting to eat. So now I am not sure what to do. She loved Dr. Marty’s food but now I am afraid of how harmful it could be to her. So the plot thickens and we go on a search for something she likes but is healthy for her. Thank you for this video.

I have been using Farmer's dog for over a year now as I keep rotating 3/4 meat recipes every 2 months and agree that my Mango (goldendoodle) needs variety. He is excited to eat his food every single time, very energetic, never had issues with poop and coats healthy. I agree to the packs being a bit difficult to takeout/feed but I love Farmer's Dog through and through and so does my pup.
I was a bit concerned about the additives but I think this is the best human grade food I could feed my pup during our busy schedules. And I also agree to the long term health effects of feeding kibble (high in carbs) compared to fresh food and the meat byproducts instead of organ meat in Farmer's Dog

I can only give her the pork and beef options so she gets bored with her food. I'm going to try both Ollies to supplement Farmers so she has more options. I prepare my dogs' food each feeding. We feed varied proteins and veggies cooked and raw. We change ingredients randomly as things become available and as it seems needed. They get pumpkin almost every meal. We keep our pumpkin in gallon freezer bags in the freezer and when defrosted it is super soft. We never see any negative reaction to food changes. It may be because we change things so often or the pumpkin or maybe they are naturally not so sensitive. We add turmeric powder. If I feel the benefits it should be good for them. I have read where some vets recommend it. What do you think?

Not a nutritionalist but I’ve had a biology level nutrition class (A in the class if it matters to you).
Based on what I learned for humans and applying it to dogs: diversity of protein types/sources is a GREAT THING. It will allow your dog to have a wider range of the different amino acids. In short: this makes it easier/more efficient on your dogs body to build/repair/maintain.
It also may help your dog not get bored of the same flavor.

I started my puppy on Farmer's Dog in April 2022. She loved it at the very beginning. But as time went on she lost interest and it was hard to get her to eat it. Then when Farmer's Dog made the packages a lot bigger my puppy refused to eat it at all. The food would seem watery after defrosting, and the packs were so big I would be feeding only 1/4 pack per day. At that point it was very messy. Then I turned to Ollie, and I much prefer the small packs because my dog only weighs 8 lbs, so I feed her half a pack of Ollie per day. The consistency is not watery. It's over all easier on me and my dog prefers it. With Ollie she runs to her bowl and stands up on her back legs with excitement. She gobbles it down immediately.
The only thing about Ollie is I can't really tell how many calories there are in a pack. The info says 1298 kcal ME/kg. and I don't know what that means. How do I translate that to regular calories?

I’m pretty sure that my new 8 week old mixed breed puppy is going to be fed Farmers Dog. She’s not even weened yet and she’s not here at home with me either. I’m just waiting for her to be 8 weeks old and I’m researching for the right food for her to eat.
I’ve looked at the Farmers Dog website and I tried to figure out what it would cost me for her, but it was asking for information about her that I don’t yet know. I’ve seen some other videos that review that food and give it a relatively good rating.
Whatever raw food I end up feeding her, I know I won’t let her eat much kibble at all. What I’ve learned about that kind of dog food is practically scary and it seems dangerous for her.
