MAN OF STEEL was a 10/10 in my book😍Henry Cavill was so freaking awesome as Superman (I think I have a new CRUSH lol)🤩I wasn't sure if he was going to win me over since I am already such a big Christopher Reeve fan, but MAN OH MAN, he definitely won me over. His performance along with all the other actors in this movie -- Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Lawrence Fishburne--- were just marvelous. I gotta say I really liked General Zod despite him wanting to kill everyone and take over the planet... was pretty sad to see Superman ultimately kill him in the end. I could tell that was really hard on him🥺That gut wrenching scream Superman let out, tugged at my heart. The cinematography was STUNNING, BREATHTAKING-- the fight sequences and music were EPIC. Honestly, this movie was better than I could've ever imagined! So glad I gave this one a watch and thank you to everyone who recommended it to me. I hope you enjoy my reaction!
I have to giggle everytime I see your face, the first time you see Henry after he saves the people on the Oil rig, when he comes from behind the house. "Not gonna lie. He's pretty dreamy." Lol. And, the first time you see him in the suit. Hell, I'm a guy and I thought he looked great. Zack literally ripped Henry from the pages of a comic book.
One of my favourite parts of this movie is the soundtrack. Hans Zimmer is a beast, he never fails to send chills down my spine with his breathtaking scores, definetly one of the greats of modern music.
Criminally underrated movie. This was quite the masterpiece and will always go down as one of the best stories told of Superman. Christopher Reeves would have been proud.
Reeve* and sorry, but me being a Reeve fan, I think Christopher Reeve would have been extremely disappointed and appalled by this version of Superman being so careless about the destruction he caused, and Jonathan saying “maybe” he should have let those kids die on the bus. He probably would have been opposed to Superman killing Zod. Reeve understood the character and what Superman represents. Zack Snyder did not.
@@harryclarkhulk The damage was realistic. You are not going to have superpowered beings fighting and not cause any significant damage especially when some of those superpowered beings are hell bent on destroying everything. What was Clark supposed to do? Say pretty please and ask Zod and the others to fight outside of the city? Superman was trying to steer Zod away from Metropolis in the final battle but Zod kept on drawing the fight back to the city. Zod was going to destroy the city anyways. So, I don't see how any of the damage would have been realistically avoided.
@@harryclarkhulk Well, he is a rookie in this movie. Why do you expect him to make expert moves when he fought as Superman for the first time in the movie and against a bunch of Kryptonians? Even if he didn't cause some of that damage you mentioned there was still no way damage was going to be avoided. Plus, the military fought as well. You expect them to avoid damage too? People need to realize Snyder gave these films a more grounded and realistic approach. This isn't the '80s anymore.
Also notable about Zack Snyders approach to this movie. He is well known for his love of slow mo scenes (Sucker Punch, 300). He purposely chose to have NO slo mo scenes in Man of Steel. This was done to help portray the Sheer speed and power of a Krpytonian under a yellow sun. Not just from the perspective of us (humans) but the perspective of the Kryptonians...example, Clark chasing Zod through Metropolis among the buildings. He also conveyed this God like power in Clark and Zod using the buildings themselves as weapons. Truly incredible piece of film making.
People give him crap for his excessive slo-mo scenes, but he does it so the audience can digest the fast paced action in his movies. He also shoots them like true comic book panels. The hate he gets from some people is baffling to me. Snyder is the best CBM director -- bar none!
I agree except he should've played the hopeful and optimistic Superman like he is in the comics and the animated series not a dark and edgy one Superman is too wholesome to be dark and edgy Henry Cavill is the nicest dude ever the role of Superman was meant for him it's a shame he never got a chance to play a true Superman
@@callmejacob3234 cope notice how everyone in person who reacts LOVE man of steal most I talk to in public say they LOVED Nan of steal rarely in person or hearing from somone speaking on man of steal do I hear that it was trash. Only when I see snyder hate cultists do I hear that "it's trash"
When the Colonel says "You're right a good death is it's own reward" and pitches the plane down into Zod's ship I get chills everytime I watch this. It's literally the most badass moment I've every seen in cinema.
I have to say, I always did like Zod's statement to the Kryptonian Council, showing he and Jor'El were once something resembling friends..."Jor'El was right, You're a Pack of Fools...Every. Last. One Of You!!!"
It's great knowing Zod even respected and acknowledged Jor-El's opinions and beliefs. In some distant field, maybe they were comrades, only with different ambitions.
I love the fact that Zod, who was literally custom grown to be a Leader and a Fighter, got absolutely worked by a Scientist. It was a fun little action scene, but it really hammered down what Jor'el would say later. That he thought Kryptonians lost the ability to discover and decide their own way, to choose. He had no business being a good Fighter, as he was supposed to be a Scientist, but he chose to train himself in Combat. It's a small detail but it shows that Jor'El did venture beyond the purpose he was bred for.
@@CedricBassman Thank you for pointing that out. Zod did get stomped...easily and decisively by, what was determined by their own society, an egg head. Jor'el took him apart with relative ease.
The scene where he says you are my son makes me tear up everytime, and Zod is honest the whole time his loyalty to krypton is amazing I love this movie.
I had the HUGE privilege of seeing this film in the theathers, for a 12 year old it was a magical experience, and now with 21 years seems to me getting better and better 😂 I'm extremely emotional that you reacted to this movie So damn gooooood !!!! 💙💛❤️
I will never forget that day! It's the only movie I've seen twice on a premiere day! That's how shocked I was, still am! My absolute favourite superhero movie!
I know a lot of people LOVE the 1978 film (myself included) & my fellow comic nerds dislike this film, but this is my favorite live-action Superman film so far. It feels a little more weighty. Plus, I prefer this version's Jor-El, Lara, Zod & Martha Kent. Also, the maestro Hans Zimmer's score is a blast.
it does, I really wish the Routh Superman universe had better writing. I still think it has some of the most iconic scenes. Saving the plane, getting shot in the eye....
Behind the movie, you have Christopher Nolan, Zack Snyder, and Hans Zimmer, along with a solid cast. This is why Man of Steel is an amazing film. Personally, I love the more serious versions of Superman and Batman. This is definitely still one of my top favourites. I also really love how they brought a whole new extra-terrestrial technological element to the film. It makes it feel a bit more realistic.
Hans is a BADASS in his own right. And he knocked it out of the park for an untested theme in theaters after more than 30 years. An ideal of hope is SPECTACULAR
I love how the military is incorporated into the movie. The general was about to lunge at that Kryptonian even though she just decimated his crew. And then at the end they still took the fight to the kryptonians. I can only imagine how insanely epic Darseids invasion and Earth's forces and heroes AND villains would be if WB wasn't so damn afraid of taking risks.
I think about how that final battle scene in Justice League Part III would have gone down. Superman unites the world: the humans, Amazonians and Atlanteans fighting together like they did thousands of years ago. Zack Snyder's storyborards had "the entire world becomes a Justice League" written on it and I've never been able to get it out of my mind since. Such a massively missed opportunity from WB.
Fun fact henry as a promo went out in public with a clark kent outfit. Glasses slouch and ballcap and did interviews with random people in NYC. Right underneath a billboard with his giant face on it as Sups. And nobody was the wiser and nobody recognized him.
I really enjoyed your reaction Laurenn. Finally, a reactor who sees this film the way I see it. So many are unable to see past some of the film's shortcomings, to everything that this Superman movie does so right. It captures the spirit, energy, and look of the comics, while at the same time adapting some of the more old-fashioned superhero tropes for a modern audience. The cinemetography, action, special effects, performances, and music are all awesome. It is my personal favorite Superman movie, and I'm so glad you loved it as much as you did.
I didn't care much about Superman until I watched this movie. This movie actually made me care about the character and see the humanity and power behind him. It was incredible.
Breaks my heart people don’t connect with Jonathan’s death scene. Regardless of the fact he didn’t want his son exposed what father wouldn’t want their superhuman son to protect their wife. I’ll die in the hill defending this movie
@@spectrexr1 i don't think that people dislike that scene because it's too dark in tone..... i hope at least, that most people diskike the scene because it's melodramatic and shlocky
@@stefanforrer2573 it's not melodramatic. Not like his dad was crying or yelling for help or over doing it. He took that tornado like a man lol. Plus it was just to show how much his dad believe the world wasn't ready. Clark said it to Lois. But anytime I see comments about that scene the first thing is see is why didn't he save him. He could have went fast enough so no one would notice. It's stupid his dad didn't let him save him. I've seen lot of those comments. Guess people forgot how boring and a waste he died in Reeves Superman when he just had a heart attack and fell out in the yard. And that was it. People just not use to that much. Going on in a Superman movie. They think every Superman should be like Reeves. He didn't give his dad a 2nd thought after he died.
I gotta disagree. Jon Kent is meant to die of old age or heart disease. Something that Clark can't physically save him from so that he has a personal understanding of mortality. His death was 100% avoidable in this movie and served no purpose imo
I respect that this movie committed to its tone above all else. Right now superhero movies have completely replaced comedies but sometimes I want to enjoy a superhero action movie. I want stakes, I want to feel things, I want to see characters overcoming impossible circumstances. I don't need every superhero movie to be on HYUCK HYUCK mode start to finish. I miss this kind of style. This film is a fantastic mix of Style AND Substance. The action is to date UNMATCHED in it's quality, and the storytelling is a lot deeper than people give it credit for.
One of the best super hero movies ever made. And the best Superman movie made. This from someone who saw the first Superman with Christopher Reeves in a theatre. That one's my number two.
10/10 on this. 👊🏻👌🏻 Loved your reaction and your editing was literally PERFECT. This movie the directors, the producers and actors especially Henry deserve so much more love for this movie. I don’t know any bigger Superman fans than me and I loved it.
Thank you so much Apollo! I worked hard on it so I'm glad you liked my editing for this one and my reaction😄I agree this movie deserves a lot more love than its been given. I think it takes terrible movies to come out for people to be able to go back and appreciate good ones like this, which is unfortunate (kind of like the Star Wars prequels too, everyone hated those--now they are starting to appreciate them). I read that when this came out people were split on it, which was baffling to me. People just don't know a good thing when it's right in front of them. They'd rather pick it apart and criticize it for what it didn't do than appreciate what it did do. For me, I thought it was incredible and they knocked this out of the park. I am becoming a BIG FAN of Superman which I never thought I'd say. Always been a die hard Batman kinda girl but damn, Superman has been stealing my heart lately lol. Thanks for watching Apollo!
@@LoveLaurenn Loved your reaction Lauren😍, I would just like you to suggest to moderate the volume of movie and your reactions (no offence😅 ) on occasions when movie is little silent and there is an element of surprise from your side. (26:02).. and sudden jump in pitch (25:55).. otherwise its a great video and watched it till the end.. 🤩🤩
OMG!!! Lauren, this was so well done. You got ALL of the great scenes and you kept the pace of the movie. 10/10. That included favorite scenes...The doors of the ship opening to reveal him in the suit. Him taking off the top of a mountain after his first flight attempt. During his 1st flight, you showed the momentary pause he had...so we could see a man 'Standing in the Sky.' The first meeting of Clark and Lois. The incredible and massively destructive fight in Smallville, The shot of him drifting out of the ship into space (a REALLY cool shot indeed.) The last second rescue of Lois, from a damaged escape pod that was about to explode (I've heard a few people complain over the years that he could have caught the pod and set it down.) The final Epic battle between Clark and Zod...'When Gods go to War.' And No, I don't believe Clark wanted to kill him...Zod gave him no choice. Lauren, this was a wonderful job. This is a long movie to have to edit down and I think you hit it beautifully. Thank you soo much for this. It was also really fun to see you oogling at Henry, and hear your thoughts on the suit.😁I am so glad you have entered the world of Henry Cavill's Superman. This was a joy to watch with you. @@AkaiAkuma_ that Batman movie much like End game are grossly overrated movies. When partisans Batman is punching a street thug over and over people were amazed but that was done and done a lot better by Ben Aflecks Batman in the warehouse scene in Batman v Superman.
@@tonysoto8949 I do not like Ben Affleck Batman for a number of reasons, not the actor the writer, Snyder. Ben Affleck’s Batman has no problem killing low level thugs as we saw him do so in Batman v Superman, but he won’t kill DCEU Joker? Let me clarify though that yes i know other actors of Batman have killed, but killed indirectly or because back in the day people weren’t that big into comics. You’ve seen it though Ben Affleck’s Batman NOT indirectly, directly kills low level thugs and a good prime example is the car chase scene in his batmobile, if you’re in a high speed tank why do u need guns to kill those thugs, just take out the car so they’re not a threat. Another few reasons I dis not like Ben Affleck Batman was his suit, yea it had the colors but the bat symbol was too big and blocky, u could so obviously tell it was a muscle suit inside the bat suit cause we’ve seen Ben Affleck and he’s not built that big, and his cowl just looked too rubbery.
@@tonysoto8949 Just me personally and my opinion, Robert punching thugs repeatedly was done better cause he’s portraying and Batman who’s only 2 years in his career and is full of rage and vengeance as well as obsessed with being The Batman, Bruce for 2 years has always been obsessed with being The Batman cause of his parents killed by the crime element.

I always adore your reactions to movies and most especially this one, when I first saw Man Of Steel at the movie theater and having grown up watching the original Christopher Reeve's films Henry Cavill's Superman blew me away. Everything you described about liking this movie that is exactly what I felt at the time and still do. I hope in the not too distant future you do reactions to the other DC movies featuring Henry Cavill's Superman and if you do for Batman Vs Superman the better version is the Ultimate rather than the theatrical and for Justice League the Snyder Cut rather than the theatrical version. Thank you Oedo! Man of Steel definitely blew me away, Henry Cavill was an awesome Superman! I am very excited to be watching Batman v Superman very soon, as a new fan of Henry Cavill I can't wait to see more of him as Superman. Thanks for the kind words Oedo and thank you for watching!🥰
@@LoveLaurenn Agree with this. Make sure you watch BvS: Ultimate Edition, as it's canon to Zack Snyder's true vision. The idiot executives at WB forced him to cut the run time so it can be shown more times in theaters, but that's a different story.
This move is phenomenal. Zack and everyone really made quite something to show everything a Superman movie should have. Really happy to see how much you enjoyed it!! Gonna be interesting to see your reactions to BvS Ultimate Edition and Zack Snyder's Justice League!

Love this reaction 8:40 , perfect for mind bending sci-fi which, most people forget is a huge part of Superman. He’s an alien. All the Kryptonian aspects of this movie are so dope in that respect.
Henry Cavil is this generations Superman as Christopher Reeve was to me. You are in for a wild ride with Zack Snyders version of the DCU! The cinematography is amazing in all of Snyders DC movies. It's always been 50/50 with people who love/hate his movies, but you can't deny that they are BadAss!! I can't wait for you to watch and react to Batman vs Superman!! The reason I Love the DCU is because it's Darker and rooted in human turmoil. Thank you for sharing your first time with us! 🥰🥰🥰
Absolutely fantastic to see you finally watching this great movie. The cast was awesome, especially Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner. I like the atmosphere on your channel it makes so much fun to watch these classic movies with you and hearing your thoughts. It's amazing to see you smile so much while watching.
I love the subtle nod to Christopher Reeve when Superman rides up the beam to kill the world engine. Cavill's face briefly morphing to into Reeve's was a nice touch. I also think Brandon Routh did an underrated job with his version of Superman (Superman Returns - 2006), especially in his bungling Clark and the way he get's the vibe of Reeve's portrayal so well.
In the world engine scene where Henry is in the energy beam, they deliberately morphed Chris Reeve's face on to his for a second or two as a homage to his Superman. Totally awesome shot!!!
One thing a lot of people companied about was when Superman killed Zod. The big outcry was "Superman doesn't kill ever!" Thing is, that's not true. In the comics, in issue 22 back in the 80s, Superman fought a Zod from another reality, along with his two cronies. Superman was faced with the realization that he has no way of containing Zod, like in this movie. And like in this movie, he was forced to kill him, and his two cronies. In the comic, he actually used Kryptonite, but the end results were the same. Like in the movie, the act of killing was traumatizing for Superman. He mourned Zod, like he did in this movie, and even suffered a form of PTSD over killing him.
Times change as do our heroes. It was very a human response to what he did and I wasn't mad at all. Nobody wants to really take a life in order to save another. It happens everyday with Police, Military (real soldiers and officers). Nobody is perfect. Our heroes don't have to be nether.
Lauren, Man of Steel is a beautiful superhero film, hands down. What Zack Snyder did with the film is something so real as what a Superman in real life would be Quick add: if you like Man of Steel, just wait til you see Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition and Justice League SNYDER CUT
Many who watched this the movie said it "Doesn’t have heart like the original". It still perplexes me till this day why would anyone say this movie doesn’t have heart when it’s filled with many heartfelt and purely human moments in it showing Clark smile, cry, and the many philosophical questions they pose about people’s reactions to superhuman abilities and of gods existing among us. I think people who felt that about this movie either expected a bubbly Superman like the old movies, or a fun Superman with quips and jokes like in MARVEL style. Personally I think the realistic, pure, dark, and human interpretation of this Superman and basically the DC Snyderverse is what made it different and it’s what separates it from the MCU. Honestly, I’m not hopeful about the new reboot of the DCU ushered out by James Gunn because I’m afraid the DCU will be MARVELized for the sake of earning more profit at the box office. We’ll see about that. Enjoyed your reaction and subbed 👌. 32:04 also at this moment of your reaction, Zod’s loyalty to his people is genetically codified within his DNA. So he’s not going about it in the wrong way. He is designed to serve that purpose and is not fortunate to be free to forge his own destiny like Clark does.
There's been so many lies, misunderstandings and nitpicks from this film that you can't even take the criticisms seriously. But yes, people were expecting the cheesy, big blue boy scout who's cartoonishly optimistic with a smile on his face. But instead, Zack Snyder went for a more realistic interpretation of Superman who has self doubt and trying to find his purpose. Apparently, the critics and certain audiences couldn't handle it. They claim he didn't save people, doesn't smile enough and caused all the destruction in this film. They're still crying to this day all because Superman snapped Zod's neck which was the most logical thing to do considering he was never going to stop. As for the Synderverse, one of the reasons I enjoyed his vision as you stated above is because it was different to the MCU. The MCU made lighthearted action comedies while Snyder did the opposite. Zack Snyder's tone is exactly what the DCEU should have stuck with. Unfortunately, the majority of criticisms against Man of Steel and BvS was because it lacks humor, levity, too serious and too dark. It's obvious that people wanted the DCEU to be Marvel 2.0. And yes, James Gunn is definitely going to bring the marvel formula but the DCEU has already been marvelized. It started with Suicide Squad (2016) when they did reshoots to add more humor and lighten the tone of the film. They also added all those pop songs into the soundtrack when it was never present in the original cut. Then you have that terrible Justice League theatrical cut from Warner Bros by bringing over Joss Whedon to rewrite and direct the film during reshoots. Then you have, Aquaman, Shazam, Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad. Once they got of rid of Snyder, all the films turned into lighthearted action comedies to the point where nothing is taken seriously. You're just going to get a repeat of that with James Gunn.
@@dondreg16 I hate this, I really hate this. Not ready to see anything DC made for PG-13 audiences. How about Matt Reeve’s Batman? Did you enjoy that one? I really did and the tone was perfect but I guess James Gunn will put that in ”Elseworlds" and will not canon. Shame, and it feels like it’s the end of an era.
Being a man who, in his childhood, hallucinated with Chris Reeve's Superman, Man of Steel is my favorite Superman movie ever, it's all I ever wanted to see of the character in the cinema.
I also want to throw a shout out to the scene in the ship, when Lois was attacked by the robot sentry, followed immediately by Clark super speeding in and crushing it like a beer can. It's just a cool scene.
The part where Johnathan is telling Clark he has to decide what kind of person he wants to be is kinda scary. What if he decided to go the evil way? That is premise of the movie “Brightburn”.
I find both ideas to be somewhat unrealistic (which I know is a silly thing to say about a fantastical concept like super heroes). I think very few people would ever be as selfless and altruistic as superman, and most people aren't insane mass murderers, of course, and so wouldn't go full villain. But that has always been the root of my dislike for Superman as a character. The combination of him being so ridiculously powerful that very little is even a threat or challenge to him while also being so "perfect" of a person. Power corrupts, and it never seems like he struggles to do the "right" thing." That's what I liked about the ending of this movie. Zod forced Superman into a position where he had no good options. Superman made the better choice of the two, but I liked that he had to end the situation in a way that he didn't want, and was left to deal with the emotional impact of having his hand forced. I appreciated that.
@@BubblyRainbows power only corrupts you if you only let it corrupt you. There are many people in this world who are as altruistic as superman. What makes superman such an amazing character is that he always does the right thing, it’s his compassion, his kindness etc.
Henry Cavill not being superman anymore is a serious gut punch to the fans. I'm glad you enjoyed it. A movie I'd recommend you watch is the original "Clash of the titans" from the 80's starring Harry Hamlin. Take care 👍🏼
It's what made me check out of DC. I'm watching the rest of thr snyderverse movies then... Gunn will have to earn my money because they are dead to me after aquaman 2
Just the same as the Witcher, they're just comparing sizes and who controls the rights. Issue is, us fans tell them to simply bend over and take it. We value these types of movies because of adaption and adherence to the source. Henry or not, this is a classic. The idiots remaking yet another version will fall flat just as much as Cleopatra series has, what a joke. Don't waste my time on that crud.
This is a pretty decent remake of Superman mythos based on several renditions of the comics reboots of the DCU. Plenty of fans of the Henry Cavill Supes. Loved your art for Superman 78. Can't wait for BvS, the followup film to this series.
Awesome reaction! Man of Steel is definitely a masterpiece! Can’t wait to see your reaction to Batman V Superman! Make sure to watch the ultimate edition. It’s 3 hours but gives you the whole story as opposed to the theatrical release, which was only 2 1/2 hours.
Never was a big Superman-Fan, but this Movie is pure Awesomness with an incredible Cast. Michael Shannon crushed it as Zod, easily one of the best Villains when it comes to Comic-Book-Movies. Very excited to see him in The Flash again and MoS has probably my favorite Hans Zimmer Score - nothing but Goosebumps.
I don't care what anyone says, Man of Steel was an awesome Superman movie. The score is phenomenal too. Christopher Reeve will always be Superman to me though!
Who doesn’t love Lauren? I’m elated that you reacted to this version of Superman. This is by far my favorite movie of the last push in DC films. Also, Amy Adams is the best Lois of all time.
Yes, Zod was very different from the old 1980 Superman II version. The Terence Stamp actor for Zod in 1980 was a typical villain wanting to simply conquer the world and get revenge on the son of his jailer, Jor-El. In this movie, the Michael Shannon actor for Zod used to be friends with Jor-El. They were both in agreement about the threat to Krypton dying and disagreed with the Council. But that's as far as sharing ties goes. Zod was bred for a single purpose. To protect and save Krypton. He saw what Jor-El did, having a natural birth, as heresy. And the fact that Kal-El chose to save the people of Earth over his own added to Zod's madness. Superman called Zod "a monster." But you're right. Zod was only doing what he was bred to do. His only singular purpose. Then Zod made it clear to Superman that only ONE of them would come out of this alive. Zod gave Superman no choice when he was about to vaporize innocent people with his heat vision. His cry of anguish certainly spoke volumes that he did not want to kill Zod. In short, (too late, I know) 2013 Zod was a character that had much greater depth than 1980 Zod. -OG
I have seen all the other iterations of Superman over the years. And this is by far my favorite version. It's a shame Henry Cavill's run as the character has been cut short. No one else really ever had the consequence of collateral damage when telling Supermans story. That is what i like about Zack Snyder's version, and Henry's portrayal of him.
The music and all the hopeful speeches his dads gave him were my favorite parts the writing was really damn good and YES I loved Henry as superman hs fits it really well and I love how Lois just found out who he was so easily she is a great reporter in any randition I've seen her in
Has anyone mentioned the way Henry Cavill looked exactly like Christopher Reeve in the light when he shot up to destroy the world ending machine? Was one hell of a scene, for people as old as I am, who watched the Reeve originals.
Love your reactions, Laurenn. I feel that I should point out that the only reason that Zod chose Earth was that Jor El sent the codex there, and that the only reason to implant the codex into his son was to restore Krypton (on Earth). Jot El KNEW that he was sending it to an inhabited planet! Ultimately, Jor El is responsible for what happens and for everyone killed by Clark and the other Kryptonians. (Because you can't do what they did in the middle of an American city in broad daylight without killing a lot of people). In fact, Superman takes Zod from the Kents' farm to a heavily populated area (with an iHop). He didn't have to kill Zod either. It would have taken less strength and effort to turn Zod's head than to snap his neck. But Jonathan Kent, Superman's moral centre, has already suggested that 'maybe' Clark should have let a bus-load of kids die, so what can we expect?
I've never been a big Superman fan, team Bats all the way lol. But I really like Cavil as Superman, and its a shame Netflix screwed the pooch and drove him away from The Witcher.
I have always been such a big Batman fan and never really got into Superman until this year. I gotta say I am LOVING Superman I think he is freaking awesome. I love both Christopher Reeve's Superman and Henry Cavill's😍
I'm Brazilian and SUPERMAN the movie (1978) for me is the best superhero movie of all time! I watched it at the cinema when I was a child and I still feel like a child today and I am enchanted by the action scenes and special effects! For me it will always be a wonderful and untouchable classic.
The was one of the best reactions for a movie. I noticed that you were invested right from the beginning. This movie is the best Superman movie of all time and Hans Zimmer did an epic job of producing the background score which is on another level. Props to Snyder for having Zimmer on board. My favorite part for the movie is when Superman destroys the world engine. The gravity beam distorts his face and for a brief moment we see it change into Christopher Reeve’s. It’s a brilliant tribute to Reeve. The soundtrack during this scene in particular is just mind blowing
Great review Laurenn! I am a huge Superman fan and I loved this movie and Cavill as Superman. It saddens me to think he will never play the role again.
??? So he didnt want to overthrow the kryptonian council and rule Krypton? And then he didnt want to kill every last human to build a new Krypton under his dictatorship? What movie did you watch? All Zod wanted was to rule, cause he thought he knew whats best!
@@Smido83 He did all that for the greater good. The current council DID trash Krypton to a state of no coming back. He is right on that. @@Smido83 The difference is that the 1978 Zod wanted to rule no matter who he was ruling. He wanting all of Kypton to knee before him for no other reason than to be ruler. Then, when he discovered Earth, he wanted humankind to knee before him as ruler for no other reason than to be a god. He was completely self serving. 2013 Zod says, more than once, that everything he does is for the greater good of KRYPTON. Even if that meant taking control. In the end he wants the Kryptonian people to thrive. He didn't just want to rule mankind, which he could have done very easily. That's not for the greater good of HIS people. Did you not hear what he said to Superman after his people were sucked back into the phantom zone? What movie did you watch?
@@McPh1741 You still dont get it... I KNOW AND UNDERSTAND ALL THAT! Hee still was evil and he still wanted to rule! Just portraying him more "human" and not just as a basic villan doesnt mean he wasnt evil or didnt want to rule like you said. He was evil and wanted to rule... they just gave him a purpose why. If you portray Hitler as a guy who just wanted to save his people, does he become less evil for killing 6 Million people in KZ's and tens of million more during the war? Didnt he just want to rule the world? Cause belive it or not... thats how he started!
Clark smiles genuinely for the first time while flying, because it's the first time he's ever been unconstrained. It's the first time he gets to be everything he is, without hiding or having to hold back. It's the first time he's truly free, if only briefly. Especially after learning so much about who he is and where he's from. It had to be an immensely cathartic experience for him.
If you didn't notice when he is standing in the beam at the end and his face is rippling under the pressure of the beam his face turns into Christopher Reeves for maybe 2 seconds, when a fan asked the director about it he said, you can't have the man of steel without Super man. If you didn't catch it check it out it's absolutely chilling. As always love your videos reactions can't wait to see what you watch next!
OK, I will preface this by saying I love this channel. Your reactions are tremendous and I hear how thorough you are in your observations. Now, that being said, I love the Superman lore, and it took me a long time to truly appreciate this film and its interpretation of what I grew up loving. After going back and watching this again after viewing the rest of the Snyderverse films, this movie ranks in my upper echelon of superhero flicks. Kudos to you for enjoying it!❤
I loved Henry Cavill as Superman. and there was a hidden homage to the Chris Reeve version. it was when Cavill was looking up in the midst of caombatting the world engince, his portrayal in that instant directly copies Chris Reeve's portrayal... and every time i see it, it brings me to tears, because of how powerful, and honorable of another actor it is
Your review of this movie was absolutely spot on!!!!!! I couldn't agree more with pretty much everything you said! Your reactions are awesome to watch and if I may be permitted to give you a compliment, You're a gorgeous woman and your neck and chest tattoos are mesmerizing!!!!! Thank you for your reactions!!
So happy you loved it, this movie is absolutely beautiful. I’ve loved this character and read every damn comic since I can remember and this made me so happy. 10/10. 🍻
I was an 80s kid, (saw Superman in the theater in '78) and a true blue "Christopher Reeves IS Superman fan" But Henry is the befrigged truth. He was born to be Superman...possibly on Kryton.
The other major difference in contrast to Christopher Reeve's Superman v Henry Cavill's Man of Steel is that there isn't this drama about hiding his identity from Lois. In Man of Steel, Lois knows Clark is Superman from the get-go. I think it makes their relationship all the more genuine as a result. Too many superhero movies focus on trying to hide their identity from their loved ones. I think comic book fans grow tired of watching that game on screen. I'm glad this was out in the open. -OG
Although I also like this Lois more than the 1978 imagining (which I grew up with) I've never seen any version of her as a damsel in distress. She is always stronger and more complex than that label implies.
In comparing the Christopher Reeve Superman to the Henry Cavill Superman, we also have to compare the time frame and the comics published leading up to the different movies. Superman of 1978 was very much like the Superman comics I had grown up. It was very campy but so were the comics. As the comic book publishers realized that the 12 year olds that they were marketing to were still buying the comics as they became adults, they started to write for an older audience. Man of Steel reflects the changes to Superman that happened after Crisis on Infinite Earths. Even though I grew up on those campy Silver Age comics, I prefer the more modern take.
I say this as someone that saw the original in theaters in 1978 as a child...and that film has remained a very personal one to me since.....but Man of Steel is a really great and exciting take on Superman. Reeve will always be the true Superman to me, but Cavil did an amazing job carrying the torch. Like many fans, I'm disappointed by recent news that he will no longer be wearing the cape. And as much as I love John Williams' score for 1978, I LOVE the Hans Zimmer score for Man of Steel. This is truly a great entry in the Superman mythos. Thanks so much for reacting.
37:04 she's a soldier, probably many years of hand to hand combat training, and weapons, same with General Zod, Clark never had the military training, he's just winging it, using his brute strength to hurl them around. this is one of my favs, same with the original 70's Superman. i hope you watch Batman Vs. Superman as well, i suggest the Extended cut. Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League is the best option as well, if you decide to watch all the MCU films. great reaction! 👍
Also Henry was a huge fan of Superman so when offered the part it made him very happy it was a dream come true for him then DC screwed up and fired him
I am going to reiterate my suggestion from The Crow. Please watch, The Count Of Monte Cristo (2002). Besides being the greatest story of revenge ever written, over 150 years ago, it is also one of the first movies Henry Cavill ever did, he was around 17-18 years old.
The scene he's jumping right before he takes off in flight It's in reference to the comics because in the beginning he could only jump he couldn't fly but then later on he picked up the flying thing, That's why early in the comics his thing was that he could leap buildings in a single bound
This was and awesome reaction video. Your reaction was so refreshing and made me feel like I was reliving it all over again. Sorry it took you all these years to finally watch it. But so glad you did. Subbing!❤
Poor Clark, having to snap the neck of the last living link to his parents and home planet. Beyond the act of killing someone, that had to be so traumatic. And Lois' act of comfort saving Clark in that moment. To me, this is the best DC movie in decades.
Yeah. While I didn’t agree with it, even I understood that it wasn’t like he wanted to do it. I just hated that watchers wanted to act like a superhero killing was something that they haven’t seen before. Especially with the Marvel movies that came out before MOS. It’s barely a big deal with them.
When Jor El says Kal on the ship that you can save her kal. You can save them all. Then Henry exiting the ship making a cross pose resembling Jesus as he is the saviour of the planet and a literal God amongst men. These little details are worthy to notice and makes the movie even better. Zack Snyder knows how to make an action packed movie. That was one of the most powerful scene in the movie
Always appreciated Superman, mostly because he was great in the JL animated series, but I never really loved the character. Snyder and Cavill changed my mind with this film. Watching it in Imax in 2013, the first flight scene with Zimmer score was just...insane, one of my favorite moments I had in theaters. This movie just made me love Superman and it's really painful to see how bad Cavill was treated by WB and very sad that he's no longer portraying the character. Wish all the best for the next actor but he'll have a really hard time cause just like Christopher Reeve, Cavill is the embodiment of the character
See this is the sort of reaction I wished more people had. Was so annoyed they didn't make a second standalone move with henry. Awesome video LoveLaurenn 😁🤙🤙
Henry Cavill is the defacto superman of our generation. No one can top the role of Supes that Henry does. Man of Steel with Henry was DC's best film in the last 4 decades by a long shot and they screwed him over royally unfortunately.
To this day, the best Superman film showing how hard it was for Johnathan and Martha raising Clark, and the difficulty he had becoming who he would be. (Outside of the "Smallville" T.V series). But mos def a great movie, great sets, action, drama..I love the closing scene where the Kents are watching Clark play superhero in the yard...The look they gave each other tells you they knew he was going to do great things in the future.
Watch rest of the movies of DCEU ,:- Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman Dawn of Justice Extend Cut, Wonder Woman, Zack Snyder's Justice League. All in UA-cam itself.
What I took from this movie, because it was co-written by Christopher Nolan, who did the "Dark Knight" trilogy. Just as Nolan tried to say what if Batman were real. In this film, he's saying what would be the world's reaction if all of a sudden a super-powered alien showed up.
I'm gonna miss Henry Cavill as SUPERMAN as some people considered him to be the best iteration of the character while others consider Christopher Reeve to be the best SUPERMAN
Still absolutely love this movie!! I've seen this over a dozen times and it still hits. That Zod message to earth is still great. If you re-watch the scene where he is getting hit by the world engine and he looks up at the beam before the final blow his face almost changes for a split-second into Christopher Reeves.
Glad you loved this movie. Yes, I too loved this movie. It seems a more realistic viewpoint. Just a note Henry said he wanted to do this right and not tarnish Christopher Reeves portray of him and for me he did amazing. I do agree with Lois she was a great reporter, but also a good woman. She was kind and compassionate. I actually though Faora (Antje Traue actress) played the antagonist better than Zod. Her small dialogue (taunting) was so key to how their viewpoints. I will miss Henry as Superman, but his movie will always be a top notch for me.
Man of Steel is one of my favorite movie of all times and the best Superman movie ever. Henry Cavill nail the part and God this had everything. Casting, costumes, Action, soundtrack, heart pumping. I was finally glad Superman finally punch someone which the older films never delivered. I was glad to see this on opening night with my sister and she liked it too. I'm glad you enjoyed it and will see you next time.
It was a great film wasn't it? The soundtrack was always great, Henry made an excellent Superman and the movie could really show what Supes can do, I grew up with the originals but this Superman movie is my favourite. IMPORTANT TIP FOR WATCHING THE SEQUELS - Watch "Batman V Superman Ultimate Edition" then watch "Zack Snyder's Justice League", the theatrical versions for both movies were disjointed and can ruin the experience leaving you confused and disappointed.
Lara: He'll be a freak. An outcast...they'll kill him. Jor'el: How? He'll be a God to them.
@@richwilliams7787 Yeah lmao needless to say I think I have a new crush on Henry Cavill😂

One of my favourite parts of this movie is the soundtrack. Hans Zimmer is a beast, he never fails to send chills down my spine with his breathtaking scores, definetly one of the greats of modern music.
Soundtrack is all inspiring
What makes him stand out individually as a composer is his heavy usage of percussion. His scores are very bombastic because of that.
It gives hope always.. 🙏 💯
An Ideal of hope......nuff said
Criminally underrated movie. This was quite the masterpiece and will always go down as one of the best stories told of Superman. Christopher Reeves would have been proud.
Still my favorite CB movie of all time
Reeve* and sorry, but me being a Reeve fan, I think Christopher Reeve would have been extremely disappointed and appalled by this version of Superman being so careless about the destruction he caused, and Jonathan saying “maybe” he should have let those kids die on the bus.
@@beethovenstrance5042 Superman carelessly smashes Zod into a 7-Eleven gas station and Faora into an iHop restaurant. And way more than that.
This movie will be looked at in 30 years as one of the greatest superhero movies ever
@@darkhorse1280 100% agree.

This movie is a classic 👌
Exactly. It's a shame. :(

When the Colonel says "You're right a good death is it's own reward" and pitches the plane down into Zod's ship I get chills everytime I watch this. It's literally the most badass moment I've every seen in cinema.
Takes huge balls to challenge a kryptonian to a fight with only a earth knife. 10/10
Yes! I love the rivalry between him and Faora!
Chris Meloni(whom people know from L&O SVU) is an AMAZING actor
I have to say, I always did like Zod's statement to the Kryptonian Council, showing he and Jor'El were once something resembling friends..."Jor'El was right, You're a Pack of Fools...Every. Last. One Of You!!!"
Yeah very true, they kind of want the same thing, just their means are vastly different.
Agreed. Love that line from Zod. Always gotta have a 3 dimensional villain
I had the HUGE privilege of seeing this film in the theathers, for a 12 year old it was a magical experience, and now with 21 years seems to me getting better and better 😂
I'm extremely emotional that you reacted to this movie
So damn gooooood !!!! 💙💛❤️
I will never forget that day! It's the only movie I've seen twice on a premiere day! That's how shocked I was, still am! My absolute favourite superhero movie!
unforgettable experience
I know a lot of people LOVE the 1978 film (myself included) & my fellow comic nerds dislike this film, but this is my favorite live-action Superman film so far. It feels a little more weighty. Plus, I prefer this version's Jor-El, Lara, Zod & Martha Kent. Also, the maestro Hans Zimmer's score is a blast.
This iteration of Superman has it's fanbase, especially in recent years, but it deserves even more love. Can't wait to jump into this one with LL.
it does, I really wish the Routh Superman universe had better writing.
Don't forget David S Goyer was the screenplay writer. It was an awesome collaboration
This was a beautiful drama. A first contact film.
Still my favourite DCEU film. Can't believe its almost 10 years old. Great reaction and glad you liked it.

Reeve.
I thought I was seeing things. Great homage. For a while I thought I was the only one who noticed it.
11:17 aqua man calling the whales to save Clark. Now you gotta do Bright Burn
What Zack Snyder did with the film is something so real as what a Superman in real life would be
Quick add: if you like Man of Steel, just wait til you see Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition and Justice League SNYDER CUT
Why? Both movies are so much worse then this one...
@@Smido83 WRONG! Notice he posted the Directors Cut's of Each movie which are Vastly superior to the Theatrical versions.
@@Fenris30 I've seen BOTH... they are better, but still bad!
@@Smido83 Agreed. The re-edits/reshoots helped them a bit, but both are still nowhere as good as Man of Steel.
How in gods name am I supposed to concentrate on your reaction to this? I was literally watching you the whole time. Good lord Laurenn…. 😍
Power corrupts, and it never seems like he struggles to do the "right" thing."
That's what I liked about the ending of this movie.
Fun Fact: Jor El's wife, Lara is played by Ayelet Zurer, the same actress who plays Wilson Fisk's love interest in the "Daredevil" TV Show.
Need a Supergirl as fierce as this Lara and Faora.
Henry Cavill not being superman anymore is a serious gut punch to the fans. I'm glad you enjoyed it. A movie I'd recommend you watch is the original "Clash of the titans" from the 80's starring Harry Hamlin. Take care 👍🏼
I'm holding out hope that he'll come back some day, somehow. It's a multiverse, after all. And he already has the Earth 2 logo! ;)
It's what made me check out of DC. I'm watching the rest of thr snyderverse movies then... Gunn will have to earn my money because they are dead to me after aquaman 2
@@prodigalbrock couldn't agree with you more.
I'd say that I'm a new Henry Cavill fan for sure lol. Thank you Jesus! I'll be watching Batman v Superman very soon😄
Oh shit... Laurenn getting into more DC movies! Hell yeah!
SOOO many goosebumps! The cinematography combined with that Hans Zimmer score, INCREDIBLE! Thanks for watching Kaitschi😄
@@LoveLaurenn Shannon is back for The Flash
Superman called Zod "a monster."
But you're right.
The music and all the hopeful speeches his dads gave him were my favorite parts the writing was really damn good and YES I loved Henry as superman hs fits it really well and I love how Lois just found out who he was so easily she is a great reporter in any randition I've seen her in
This movie is extremely special to me because I can connect to Clarks personality and how he went through life as a kid as well
Has anyone mentioned the way Henry Cavill looked exactly like Christopher Reeve in the light when he shot up to destroy the world ending machine? Was one hell of a scene, for people as old as I am, who watched the Reeve originals.
Yes prob everyone 😅
But Jonathan Kent, Superman's moral centre, has already suggested that 'maybe' Clark should have let a bus-load of kids die, so what can we expect?
if released today this would easy a billion dollar movie. That's how good it was
I've never been a big Superman fan, team Bats all the way lol.
I liked Lois more too. I also liked Zod more. His sense of Loyalty is what what was driving him. He just wasn’t evil and wanted to rule everyone.
A revolution is a legit thing if the current government is corrup or killing your people as he sees it. You have the right to disagree to it but he not just "evil". It is way too simple of a description for him.
@@Humstuck I never said evil... I said he just wanted to rule! Never why or if he was somewhat right. YOU said he DIDNT want to rule everyone. And THAT is wrong!
And one more question... Killing billions of innocent people who didnt do anything wrong, so that your contry/people can survive is doing something for the "greater good"? That tells me everything I need to know! Does that mean the monster ruling Germany in the 30's and 40's also wasnt evil? I mean he just wanted his people to get everything they want! He did it all for the "greater good" of his people... while also trying a revolution that failed before he rose to power!
Can you see some similarities here and after what historical person Zod was created after?
I was an 80s kid, (saw Superman in the theater in '78) and a true blue "Christopher Reeves IS Superman fan"
But Henry is the befrigged truth. He was born to be Superman...possibly on Kryton.
Loved this movie!! Awesome reaction and brilliant editing as always Lauren.I loved Michael Shannon as Zod.🥰
One of the best superhero movies
Kryptonians are not invincible they are just incredibly resilient and resistant to pain and damage but with enough force, they can be killed
Also Henry was a huge fan of Superman so when offered the part it made him very happy it was a dream come true for him then DC screwed up and fired him
So underrated it’s a masterpiece. James Gunn has a major job on his hands to top this.
I am going to reiterate my suggestion from The Crow. Please watch, The Count Of Monte Cristo (2002). Besides being the greatest story of revenge ever written, over 150 years ago, it is also one of the first movies Henry Cavill ever did, he was around 17-18 years old.
As a new fan of Henry Cavill I will definitely add that one to my watchlist! Thanks LoneStar!
Henry Cavill is also in the fantasy movie, "Stardust."
Subbing!❤
My best Superman cast. Henry Cavill is everything I pictured Superman to look like in real life.
Reeve.
Henry Cavils Superman is so relatable cause he's just a man trying to find out who is he and looking for his places in the world
15th like😁 15 is my lucky number. hope you all have a lucky day. loving your work lauren have a great week
Thank you Kevin!🥰
Laurenn definitely needs to watch Wonder Woman after BvS: UE for proper context heading into ZSJL.
