You can see the wind blowing through his hair right before he shot so he knew when he was aiming for John he would hit the pillow. Marcus didn't accept the contract until he found out it was open, which meant other assassins would be trying to kill him.
Hey Lauren, so fun fact: when john comes out of the darkness with the gun to Francis the door mans head and Francis proceeded to tell john how much weight he lost it was actually code talk. John was asking how many guards were in the club and he replied over 60
Thats true. But they messed up the translation. Cause he cleary said 60 Kilogram in russian (about 132 lbs). Makes it more clear that they are NOT talking about actual weight loss... cause loosing 132 lbs is extremely unreasonable. So every European knew right away that something was fishy here...
@@Smido83 Clearly the translation couldn't say 132 pounds because then the coded number would have been wrong, so the "incorrect translation" was okay. Even better would have been to just leave it in kilograms, though. Americans as a whole might not have a sense of how big a kilogram is, but most do know it's a unit of weight.
@@Smido83 Actually, no. Francis didn't say 60 kilograms, he said 28 kilograms. Which is somewhat accurate to the translation "over sixty pounds", since 28 kg is 61.6 pounds. But it does throw off the context of the line, and there were only twenty eight guys around Iosef in the Red Circle
@@Anino_Makata No, he clearly says 20 kilograms (Dvattsat) in Russian. 28 Kilograms would have been dvattsat vohsyem. If you count them John kills 21 people in the club but the first 2 were not guards and 1 guard survived so 20 would be an accurate count of the armed guards.
I have watched many people reacted to this movie. Nobody ever comments on the one thing I thought was amazing the fact that even though Daisy was dying she crawled all the way over to him and lay next to him.
@@somerandoonyt9553 no I don't believe so. If it was a bigger or larger dog it would be a possibility as they would have dragged it over to him. I'm pretty sure the puppy crawled to him.
when John talks to Francis the door guard his question about weight loss was a cover for his real question, how much muscle was inside. when he had his answer he let Francis go before the Bad Things started happening.
Whenever I see a reaction to this movie, I usually put some comment in about how well portrayed the grief and the effects of grief are because I went through that journey myself when cancer stole my wife from me ... and just now I recall that why Keanu can act that aspect so well is because *he* too has endured it.
It's a great film, Laurenn. Marcus took the job to stop it being offered to someone else who might have killed John, then kept watch on him to make sure that he wasn't killed by others. Other films that I recommend with Mr Reeves are; 'Speed', 'Point Break' and 'Constantine'.
Laurenn, you are a joy to watch with. You are going to love this series. No spoilers from me, but here are a few things I will tell you. They call the movies chapters because the story of each picks up where the last one left off. Also IMHO the chapters get better and better. There will be lots of action obviously, but as it goes on you will get more of Johns story as well. There will also be some really great guest stars too. Strap in Laurenn. I will be catching up on your reactions. Meantime, stay safe and well!! Oh and when John was talking to the doorman at the club and he asked about his weight loss, he was asking how many guys were there to protect the kid, and Francis answered about 60.
I feel Pitch Meeting had one of the best comments on this movie; "So John Wick is going to kill people for 90 minutes because they murdered his dog?" "Yes." "I'm totally ok with that."
Marcus was always on John's side. When Vigo offers the contact, his first question is if it's an open contract, meaning would other assassins be trying at the same time. Only when he knew it would it be open did he accept the contract, so he'd have an excuse to stay involved and help John.
The World building in this Franchise is just INSANE. Every question you might have in this movie will be ansered in the later ones. And also the Action just gets better and better...
John Wick is one of those movie that perfectly personifies badassery. The gun fu is insanely well choreographed, the world building is so good, and Keanu is the man. I don't know how anyone couldn't root for John, especially after what happens to his dog. I wanted John to lay the SmackDown on all those guys after what they did to him, and John didn't disappoint lol You will definitely enjoy Chapter 2, and probably Chapter 3: Parabellum. I haven't seen the latter yet, but I've only heard good things about it. P.S. I appreciate you recognizing Willem Dafoe lol
Fun fact: the guy who was "getting some good hits in" in the club was the agent that fought Morpheus on top of the truck in the second Matrix movie. He was also in a really bad movie called "Future War", but that's not directly relevant, it was just really bad.
LOVED this reaction! Your editing is so great! Love the add in bits, like the "he f'ed up" overlay on Iossef. So funny! Can't wait for you to see the plot unfold in the sequels!
I love the scene with Jimmy, when he takes off his hat, symbolizing that he is not a cop right at this particular moment. He knows whose door he just knocked on. If John is killing guys who busted into his house, it's none of his business.
I love the symbolism of John destroying the foundation of his new life, the basement floor, to re-enter his old life, the weapons and coins. Friggin' poetry.
Plus, after he did it, I feel like I've seen the sledgehammer thing a dozen times since... so he kind of created a new trope right? Unless it's a throwback to something much older I haven't seen
Well the house has always been an analogy of the mind. The attic, represents the super-ego - our ideals, a state of being the perfect version of one's self; the living space is the ego - the life we consciously make for ourselves; and the basement is the id - the things we try to hide or bury. So not only is the basement symbolic, so is the lack of the attic. John knows he's a failure of a human being, and the best thing he can achieve is to live an honest, grounded life, without any hope of reaching any ideals he might envision for himself. He's given up on his super-ego, but when the thugs invade his ego too, all he has left is his id - the thing he tried to bury.
When someone shows up in your home and uninvited and requests something, assume that saying "no", will have consequences that he had prepared for and you have not.
Keanu is best when he gets minimal dialogue and is pure physicality, I think. He conveyed real emotion reacting to that letter and his stunt work is impeccable (when dude says more than a few lines of dialogue, it's a bit..bland? Monotone..I dunno, maybe just me). Love your reaction, as always. 'Nobody' should be next.

@Nick the Constitutional Peasant - because it is like that in a reall life at the end. The series has been so good of John Wick. Part 4 will be out next year in March. Hope you watch the next 2. Hope you watch his older movie Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure. 4000 hrs of training for this movie.
Loved your reaction, you have super expressive eyes that convey a lot of emotion, and apparently are really good at observing detail. Most people I've watched John Wick with, (or seen reactions of), don't catch the super tiny details like that the dog at the end was scheduled to be put down... Which is a detail that puts John taking the dog into a completely different context than if he was stealing someone's family dog. instead, by surviving, John ends the movie giving that dog the gift of life, (showing that he does not kill needlessly.) What happened to John's car? You'll have to watch the sequel to see if they address that loose end. 😈
Great video! So at 19:07 when door guy said 60 kg. He was actually referring to their being 60 security personnel in the club that John Wick would have to deal with.
Love the John Wick Movies. That part with Jimmy at the door always creases me lol. Great reaction. Look forward to you doing parts 2 and 3. Can't wait for part 4 next year.
Echoes of the tv show, "The Prisoner" .. If you haven't seen it, give it a go. Sadly, it ends weirdly because it was a fk you from the writers to the BBC who promised another season and then canceled it..
So many excellent few-line scenes... Mob Father calling the auto-shop guy "I heard you struck my son. Why?" He asks the right question immediately. At the Red Circle club, talking to the big Security Guy, "Why don't you take the night off?" Instead of one-liners, these are few-liners, and so impressive.
"Why would they have a house doctor?" I hope someone will point you to Jodie Foster's excellent 'mystery' film, HOTEL ARTEMIS. By the way, even the mystery isn't revealed AS a mystery until the last segments.
Keanu fan, but the only scene he's done where I got misty was when he broke down after getting that lovely dog as a gift from his late wife. Kinda touching.
One thing that even the comments on these videos don't mention, is how John has that incredible car, and clearly takes exceptional care of it, and yet has no qualms at all about the puppy running all over the interior. I really enjoy that. It shows that the car matters to him and he takes care of things that matter to him, but also that he values a living thing over an object, in spite of what he himself is. It demonstrates that he knows a few marks on the upholstery or something like that can be fixed, but that the puppy is irreplaceable. It's one of the things that humanizes John for us, so that we take it even more personally when things go bad and we cheer when he starts murdering dudes. But almost nobody notices it. By then, they've introduced him so well that we're really kind of already on board, and we don't think twice about the fact that he'd just let a puppy run around inside his amazing car. We already kind of expect John to be that sort of guy. But I still think it's important that they showed it, and that it really solidifies that we're all completely on John's side.
Great reaction 👍. There are many great movies with Keanu but there is a criminally underrated one he starred in from 2008 called Street Kings. Fantastic cast including a pre Captain America Chris Evans, definitely worth watching.
The opening of this movie is a cinematic masterclass in setting the emotional hooks into the audience. I’ve yet to encounter anyone who isn’t 100% on board with his vengeance, after they see what happens to Daisy.
Ke'anu reeves does all his own stunts in these movies, there's a video you can find on UA-cam that's of him sprinting through a shooting course. He's legitimately a badass
Watched a lot of reactions on John Wick and you do a fine job in noticing the arc of the story or John's character as time progresses and little bread crumbs are dropped along the way. I also liked how you dissect, analyze and diagnose after the movie ended with crucial moments and detail.
The John Wick house is out here on Long Island in a very exclusive town called Mill Neck.. (At the end of Horseshoe road right by the water.) -- The runway he drives on is at Republic Airport, Farmingdale, NY ..
So a couple of easter eggs (there are others, these are just some of my favorites). The cops not messing with them is an agreed upon thing, that they talk about in an interview. Also, when he lets "Francis" go (Kevin Nash), the weight is supposed to be the number of people in the building. Also in interviews, they say Francis used to drive for John when John was doing his job. Watch Keanu's gun training for this film, it's impressive how much he pushes himself to make the gun play in the movie as accurate as possible. Also at 22:50 you mention the vest. Looked like soft armor and the goal is to keep you alive. It covers your vitals (heart, lungs, etc) but is meant to allow you to escape, not shrug off bullets. You could get a couple of broken ribs based on the bullets impact alone. Sorry for the long post, love this movie and all the detail that went into it. Might want to watch "Nobody" with Bob Odenkirk as well (even if not for the channel).
To Add to being so Badass, no matter who he killed, in any situation, he ALWAYS followed up with at least one Head shot! You should see the UA-cam video of Keanu at the Practice Range! GREAT Reaction!
One of the best things about this movie is that the bullet count for each gun is perfectly accurate. If the gun only holds 9 rounds, after 9 shots, John has to stop and reload before shooting again.
So the actor that played Marcus is Willem Dafoe. There’s an incredible action movie called “To live and die in LA that put Willem to full on the map. His performance was so good he actually got street CRED, Real life organized crime figures that loved his performance.
Love that you have the Hellraiser Grogu in the background, I just got one myself, it's awesome. I may have to buy or sculpt all of the other mashups. I sculpted a Darth Maul Grogu mashup.
2 of his oldest movies when he was a teen are "brotherhood of justice" which i recommend because it also has alot of big name celebrities when they were younger too, and "one step away"
Enjoyed your reaction to John Wick. You know you were the first reactor that I've seen to make note of the dog being scheduled to be put down. Keep up the good work.
Marcus asked if the contract was exclusive and the answer was no, he never intended to kill John but I guess hadhe said no at that moment he would have sealed his fate and gotten a bullet right then and there.
Another movie with Keanu was Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure back in the 80's. For John Wick, he took weapons training, and martial arts training. Just shows how much he is dedicated to his craft, and is one of the humblest actors in Hollywood
Great actress that played Ms. Perkins. Starting on the Orville, had a good character part for over a season on Agents of Shield, was in GI Joe Retaliation, and was in the remake of Red Dawn.
Hey Laurenn, you GOTTA keep going with parts 2, 3, and the upcoming part 4. Each one really builds upon and expands the worldbuilding and it's sooo good! You get introduced to new characters, rules, baddies, interesting fight sequences, stunts, etc.
Love your reactions as always. My favorite line of yours before knowing what John would do.... "Well, what goes around, comes around, right?" Did you know Keanu did a lot of practical shooting sports training to get his gunwork up to speed? Looking amazing, Laurenn. Also love the intro ❤️
love your reactions, and the way you enjoy and express yourself. also reminds me of the times when i watched the films. its like we are all watching it with you
Its a small thing but its worth noting that while a bulletproof vest prevents being perforated by a bullet, you still absorb the kinetic energy, the impact, of the bullet. It is quite painful to get shot wearing a vest (depending on the caliber, vest, etc) and leaves a pretty significant bruise. Depending on the vest standard it can be anywhere from 20-44 mm of allowable deflection of the back panel, meaning the bullet being stopped might still push a distance past the vest and into the wearer.
Every time I see this, I always tear up two or three times toward the beginning: his wife, the letter, and the pup with the blood trail. 😢 They really did well with the setup of this movie.
I don't know why it only consciously occurred to me while watching your reaction, considering I've seen the movie itself at least a dozen times, but the only reason Marcus accepted the contract on John was to protect him due to it being an open contract, I'd imagine that if it was an exclusive contract he'd have said no and either still protected him or warned him. I love that, for all three John Wick movies so far, the crew AND Keanu put so much effort into keeping the gun play as realistic as possible, like not having 'endless clips' and such, and Keanu doing so much actual gun training to prepare.
Fun Fact: Chad Stahelski, who directed John Wick was the person who body doubled for Brandon Lee in The Crow, following the fatal on set accident that ended Lee’s career far too early. For a handful of scenes, including the one in which Eric sports his eerie makeup for the first time, approaching his window as lightning briefly illuminates the room, Stahleski stood in for Lee during shooting. Then, Dream Quest used previously captured footage of Lee to digitally graft the actor's face on Stahleski's body.
Not sure if you caught it, but the actor who plays Charlie (the head of the clean-up crew) in this is the actor who played Sully (the creepy dude Arnie drops off the cliff) in Commando.
Marcus was a true friend, he took the contract to be John's overarching, his guardian because the contract put on John by Viggo. Overarching is a sniper in the Military or a helicopter to watch your teams back during a Operation , by Special Forces Units.
The "guy who threw John off the balcony" (who was later choked out) was a former stunt coordinator himself, and first-time Director on this film. Chad Stahelski. He went on to direct and/or produce the sequels and more after this film's success.
The guy that told Iosef the he should be afraid and dropped John over the edge in the club is Daniel Bernhardt. A martial artist and action movie star in the late 90s, his first big movie was the sequel The Matrix Reloaded which you may or may not get to watching.
Vigo, with a single word, "oh", conveyed more meaning than many entire story lines. 😄 (Keanu did so much training that they could shoot all these scenes with wide lens, and long takes since it was not filmed with stuntmen. Keanu in fight scenes is pure poetry in motion) Also I think the black Pitbull at the end is Keanu's pet dog.
I too loved all the casual interactions John had with Jimmy, Francis, and Harry. Sux that Perkins killed Harry though. She did get delt with in the end at least.
Bullet proof vests, not all the same, however some are thin enough, if you get shot with typical pistol rounds they can break ribs, and do some damage without going inside someone.

Also the same things when Marcus shot at the pillow. Marcus is an excellent marksman and would never miss a shot.
And Francis is played by retired pro wrestler Kevin Nash.
I have watched many people reacted to this movie. Nobody ever comments on the one thing I thought was amazing the fact that even though Daisy was dying she crawled all the way over to him and lay next to him.
Oh my god, I keep hoping for someone to mention it in their reaction.
Doesn't usually get mentioned by the reactors, but does normally get brought up in the comments
@@StillFree_4now well I guess I've just added to all the other normal bringer upers lol
Are you sure she crawls to him, and the guys didn't drag her so thats the first thing he sees when he wakes up?
@@somerandoonyt9553 no I don't believe so. If it was a bigger or larger dog it would be a possibility as they would have dragged it over to him. The fact it was a puppy they would have just lifted it up walked over and dropped it next to him. This wouldn't have left the smeared trail of blood along the floor. I'm pretty sure the puppy crawled to him.
You don't get the full range of Keanu Reeves without also seeing Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
when John talks to Francis the door guard his question about weight loss was a cover for his real question, how much muscle was inside. when he had his answer he let Francis go before the Bad Things started happening.
Great comment & perfect Keanu Reeves movie recommendations👍
I think Constantine is very underrated.
Oh hell yes, Laurenn. Do a reaction for Speed!
YES! Please watch Constantine, Laurenn!
Don't forget "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure'
I feel Pitch Meeting had one of the best comments on this movie;
"So John Wick is going to kill people for 90 minutes because they murdered his dog?"
"Yes."
"I'm totally ok with that."
The Devil’s Advocate is another Keanu classic. Highly recommended!
It's one of my husband's favorite all-time movies. I swear he watches it at least once a week!
yes! Devil's Advocate is good. might as well watch Constantine right after. i also recommend Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
27:20 the word is "stoic". Also elegant and gentlemanly.
Elegant, gentlemanly stoicism.
After Lauren sees both JW2 & 3, she will enjoy new one coming out next year: John Wick 4.
Well that is what happens when the "artist" directing is a STUNT MAN.
This movie is the definition of "fuck around and find out"
Fun fact: the guy who was "getting some good hits in" in the club was the agent that fought Morpheus on top of the truck in the second Matrix movie.
Best scene of the whole series is when Wick is in the basement penthouse . The stare down , no look headshot, badass.
Friggin' poetry.
yoooooooo I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT! THAT'S SICK!
John Wick is a speedrunner, these are all games he's played to death, literally.
I'll be charitable and call his line delivery 'understated'.
@@fnglert Why do people act like they could do a better job?
Yes he isn't the best but he isn't the worst as people portray him
Infact he's actually good when given a proper good script with good direction
@@wickedsouls3402 Never considered him The Worst or anything, but he has limits, same as Morgan Freeman wouldn't do intense action movie training and stunts.
@Nick the Constitutional Peasant - because it is like that in a reall life at the end.
None of that "Hollywood" crap, explaining why you doing it, some crazy long dialogue, or explaining something to the "bad guy".
None of that exists at all out there. Never.
If you want to do it, or have to do it - it is done. Just do it. And there is no talk at all. Pure professional job, and the approach.
@@tannhauser5399 Amazing explanation
The series has been so good of John Wick. Part 4 will be out next year in March. Hope you watch the next 2. Hope you watch his older movie Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure. 4000 hrs of training for this movie.
I wonder how much time travel training he did for Bill & Ted? 🤪
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 more than we could have apparently
"aww, is that the end?"... nope it's just the beginning. 😉
Glad you enjoyed this great flick, time for the sequels...
The ultimate "u f*cked with the WRONG guy" movie.
I absolutely loved your reaction to this movie Lauren. Can’t wait for your next reaction ❤️❤️
One of my favorite things about the John Wick universe is how it's a thing to say "be seeing you" to someone you just fought.
Don't think his name has an apostrophe in it
@@Cifer77 autocorrect
11:08 -- Yes, that's actor Dean Winters.. He's from Long Island, NY. :)
I didn't realize till recently, the guy Charlie who runs the cleanup crew, he's Sully from Commando.
"remember when I said I'd kill you last? I lied."
Watched a lot of reactions on John Wick and you do a fine job in noticing the arc of the story or John's character as time progresses and little bread crumbs are dropped along the way.
I also liked how you dissect, analyze and diagnose after the movie ended with crucial moments and detail.
This movie comes with an important message: don't mess with people's dogs. 😅
Great review, Laurenn! I went mad for this movie, got it on dvd and Blu-ray. That club shootout was AMAZEB🎱LLS!!🔫
What was your fave scene in JW?
I loved the scene with the guard Francis. He was like "Hell no, I'm not dying today!".
The John Wick house is out here on Long Island in a very exclusive town called Mill Neck.. (At the end of Horseshoe road right by the water.) -- The runway he drives on is at Republic Airport, Farmingdale, NY ..
The fountain where Ms. Perkins gets her comeuppance is the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park ..
As a dog owner, this is what happens when anyone does that to my dog.
As action movies go, I recommend The Raid and The Raid 2. Both are absolutely insane!
Yea
Not sure if you caught it, but there's a path of blood where the puppy dragged herself while suffering & dying to reach John. That gets me every time.
Excellent in Platoon also :nods:
He's in Streets of Fire (1984) with Diane Lane, Bill Paxton.
16:19
Btw this guy played Sully in Commando. The guy Arnold promised to kill last :)
Great catch on the 'To Be Put Down' note on the cage door. Took some of the sting out of Daisy getting killed.
When people ask "What happened to him?" at the start, I love responding "The movie happened to him"
I don't know why it only consciously occurred to me while watching your reaction, considering I've seen the movie itself at least a dozen times, but the only reason Marcus accepted the contract on John was to protect him due to it being an open contract, I'd imagine that if it was an exclusive contract he'd have said no and either still protected him or warned him.
I love how they included the “key maker” from the matrix sequels in this movie. I jumped for joy when I saw him! He was the Continental house Dr.
Dialogue between Aurelio and Vigo makes this movie a classic movie for me
If you're a dog lover, you can totally get into the whole revenge part.
Your reaction to this movie is the best of all I've watched. You nailed every story point that made this movie so good! Thanks - Subscribed
If you like Willem Defoe, check out Platoon, a Vietnam War movie starring Charlie Sheen (before he went crazy).
Also has Johnny Depp!
Keanu Reeves is an international treasure, as is LoveLaurenn! Loved watching your reactions to The Matrix and John Wick back to back!
Don't mess with anyone's dog, especially John Wick's dog! That new LoveLaurenn opening is awesome btw
God I love this movie. Making a movie about a hitman and turning it into an art piece like that. Chefs kiss
You might also enjoy "Nobody" (2021). Think of "John Wick", but, a low key comedy with Bob Odenkirk as Keanu Reeves' character
Not sure if you caught it, but the actor who plays Charlie (the head of the clean-up crew) in this is the actor who played Sully (the creepy dude Arnie drops off the cliff) in Commando.
Id love to actually sit down and watch a movie with you, your reactions, comments and facial expressions are amazing.
Really enjoyed watching your reaction. I’ve seen the movie a few times and never saw the paper on the pittie’s cage. Great… lots of fun. Thanks.
Marcus was a true friend, he took the contract to be John's overarching, his guardian because the contract put on John by Viggo.
Overarching is a sniper in the Military or a helicopter to watch your teams back during a Operation , by Special Forces Units.
2nd reaction I've watched of yours and I'm really enjoying how you go thru all the emotions watching the movies.
Keanu reeves is one of my all time favourite actors. And he's John wick movies are phenomenal. Awesome video laurenn. Stay amazing
The "guy who threw John off the balcony" (who was later choked out) was a former stunt coordinator himself, and first-time Director on this film. Chad Stahelski. He went on to direct and/or produce the sequels and more after this film's success.
Just found the channel. Appreciate your editing, action reactions is what we want to see and that’s exactly what you gave.
One of the greatest lines ever said to describe someone.."Oh".
I too loved all the casual interactions John had with Jimmy, Francis, and Harry. Sux that Perkins killed Harry though. She did get delt with in the end at least.
You know that john is the most feared assassin when even the cops dont even want to fuck around and find out
Bullet proof vests, not all the same, however some are thin enough, if you get shot with typical pistol rounds they can break ribs, and do some damage without going inside someone.
