I had this on VHS years ago (uncut), lost track of it, and am so grateful for it being here on YT. Say what you will about the movie, Liz was drop dead smashing in that black swimsuit.
I was only eight years old when this movie came out. And despite that my parents back in the early 1970s would take me and my brothers to those drive-in movie theaters, I don’t recall this specific film. I learned about this motion picture through a book I read many years ago. The book explained about Burton’s earlier film, “Where Eagles Dare”, and about this Hammersmith movie being a disappointment.
I was a projectionist at the Seminole Cinema in Casselberry Florida when this came out. I remember thinking, wow, the both of them went from Cleopatra to this in nine short years!
Saw this when I was 22 ... can't really remember my reaction then ... other than watching Taylor parade around in blond wigs and outrageous costumes. ..truly only for the die hard Taylor fans ... yes confess to being one !!😂
I saw this when I was 20 and I knew it was one of the worst movies ever made, but so much fun to watch. I've been looking for it for years. I thought perhaps Liz had it destroyed.
It has some pretty tasty scenes among it's spectacular tastlessness- i was wondering how Liz and Dick were talked into making this dogshit of a movie? Incredible!
It shows like some typically low budget midnight TV movie. But hey, at least it's got some that groovy get high get drunk and get laid 70s music in it. :)
Thanks for this. Not sure why all the negative criticism for this film. Burton is commanding (he would've made a good Hannibal Lechter), Liz won the Best Actress Award at the Venice Film Festival and brays and snarls in a way left over from 'Taming of the Shrew', and Beau Bridges holds his own in a difficult part. Sardonic fun, a few guffaws, a few head scratching moments, too. Very much the embodiment of what one thinks when one thinks "'70's movie."
@@DonatoDamiano-r2g That's just what I thought...😢 R.B. did do his chilling " smouldering" look, though, always a treat ! 😊. Could have been a prank, like you said, I don't know. I've always enjoyed Burton and Taylor together on the screen, but this mess, this sinking disaster makes 'Boom' look like Shakespeare, ironically, though it was based on Tennessee Williams. Hold that 1968 bomb up to 'Hammersmith', and you can really see and tell the difference. Burton's performance in this was so like his character in 'The Medusa Touch' , it's as if he had walked right off the set in '72 and reappeared five years later in '77 holding the same character for use in 'Medusa Touch.'. I must say he is one of my favorite actors, and that incredible voice he possessed was a godly gift. Don't mean to be a film critic, as I am not so well versed in that world, but I do love movies, especially the ones from long ago. 🎥🎞️🍿😊
Nothing on TV so glad to watch Taylor and Burton, good morning from SWANSEA February 2024
I was in my early 20s watching on a small late at night after partying crazy
Thank You ! Vary rare Wow ! One of my top desired films to acquire.
Yes, I have been looking for this as well...

I actually paid to see this back in 1972, in it's theatrical release, when I was 16 years old. WTH did I know? Now, 51 yeas later ...
Same here☹
"Live and Learn", as they say. 😊

Diamonds and booze cost money!
thanks for sharing!
I love Richard Burton. Ive been reading a biography about him. I still dont kno why he wasted his talent on toilets like this
he was buddies with peter ustinov the director
For the love of easy money to keep her in the lifestyle to which she was accustomed.

They didn't care about their reputations. The money offer was more important.
Rumor has it that Taylor and Burton bought up all of the negatives and destroyed them. All that's left are 16mm prints on VHS.

:)
Costumes by Edith Head...worth it for those visuals alone!

Roger Ebert gave it 3 1/2 out of 4 stars.
Never heard of this flm until now, how the mighty have falling! Really really bad.
What am I watching????? 😮
2:29 best jump-scare ever
❤
Beau Bridges peaked early, didn’t he?
🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄Too Much, Or Not Enough 🤔🤫🤭🤩
seence then i love Tomatoes 🍅🍅🍅🤣🤣
My chief takeaway from this movie is that Richard Burton has terrible hair. It's dangerously close to mullet territory.
Did I miss something ?
What made E.T.
& R.B. do this film ?
They are both
capable of better
than this, surely ?😢

It is sad. To see two fine actors appear in something that is so beneath them.

Working together narrowed their options, probably.
Nope.
