Brilliant? Yes. Incredible? No. He had a magnetic personality and speech intelligence, yet his voice was guttural and he never managed to sound English. Very much like Anthony Hopkins who has a more pleasant and melodic voice than Burton. It's a common place to say it - nobody has ever come close to Lawrence Olivier. Second best is Alec Guinness.
Thank U for posting. I never knew this movie existed even after all these years. Been a Burton fan since my family used to watch The Robe every Easter holiday during the 1980’s. 👍
I saw an excerpt of this his hamlet and was so mesmerized that I had to find it the whole movie I had no idea it was the story of the Booth brothers but Richard was perfectly cast as the tormented brilliant actor he played himself and Hamlet so beautifully that I mostly just watched with my mouth agape at his emotional depth and delivery thanks for posting this
I first watched this film as a teenager, courtesy of BBC2's "Midnight Movie" slot. I've never forgotten it, particularly the rather offbeat ending. It's partly a primer for cinema audiences who are not familiar with Shakespeare, and for this Burton was perfect casting with his muscular renderings of the texts.
Thank you for uploading this movie! They definitely took liberties with the story line, but it was well done. Richard Burton always did do great Shakespeare, modern day Too bad alcohol damaged him so badly, along with so many other greats
A year earlier there was A Star is Born, with a screenplay by Moss Hart and Charles Bickford as a manager, with an alcoholic male star character. And then this, with a screenplay by Moss Hart and Charles Bickford as a manager, with an alcoholic male star character. At 1:01:40 we have an extensive excerpt from Hamlet with the eminent Eva LeGallienne.
I haven't seen PRINCE OF PLAYERS in over 40 years. It is still as good asI remember. Thanks for downloading it.
Good evening from Swansea in South Wales..I'm proud to be Welsh and proud of Richard Burton..My father loved him and now I do.. Happy October 2022
Brilliant and incredible actor was Richard Burton

Burton broke Booth's record for NYC performance of "Hamlet" (100).

I saw Burton for the first time in this film during my college days

Not just Shakespeare, American history. Vincent Price performs Shakespeare in Theatre of Blood.
It is kinda ironic that Mr. Massey plays the father of John Wilkes Booth since he played the man he assainated in 1939's "Abe Lincoln in Illinois."😮😢
Thanks voice. It sure wakes you up out of a deep sleep.
Thank you. this is a little known movie of Burton.
Bravo Bravo Bravo fantastic 👍💯✔️🇦🇺
I loved AMC host, Robert Dorian, almost as much as Robert Osborne!!

Didn't his father die the same way?

Raymond Massey as papa Booth. John Derek, Bo's husband, as John Wilkes. Maggie McNamara, from Brooklyn, as Edwin's wife.
Prince of Players is a good book, the film is ok, not as good as the book though. Edwin Booth's life was sad. And so was Burton's, ultimately.
Burton achieved much, regardless.
I watch later

Richard Burton was up there with Sir Laurence Olivier and Sir John Gielgud ..His private life was more entertaining than his career lol ..Diolch
Sir Richard Burton.
Most great British actors' lives more interesting than their characters, & they played Popes & Kings.
Not to him. It was pretty difficult. He drank and smoked himself to death. Died at 58. A tragedy. He was a great, great actor.
