So I was playing Destiny 2 last night and decided to solo the latest dungeon, which is no mean feat because it's an activity meant for 3 people. The bosses in there take 5-6 damage phases on a good day if you're by yourself, in between each damage phase you have to complete some mechanics while being swarmed with enemies from all angles. It is tedious to say the least, filled with enemies who like to charge you and blow up in your face to kill you. I could have chose music to listen to, but instead I chose this. Oddly enough your narration kept me calm and collected and gave my mind something to focus on. It allowed me to achieve a zen-like state of "this will take as long as it needs to take" instead of getting worked up or panicked when things started to go sideways and I was cornered a few times without a way to heal myself. So thanks for this. I'm convinced that if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have done beat it without dying.
One of my favourite novels of all time is Bram Stoker's Dracula. Not for the story which, while fun, is hardly high art. No, the reason I love it is because of its format - a collection of notes, journal entries, newspaper reports, wax cylinders and more. This style of storytelling provides the story, but it carries with it a huge amount of bias in every entry. This encourages thinking and engaging with the story. Throw in the gaps between the notes or letters and see if they provide an opportunity for other less worldly adherents to make changes.
I fell in love with pride and prejudice for the same reason. Admittedly the first revision i read was an adaptation called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (which, secretly, is better.) The genre is widely used on sites like literotica as well, and is usually just called Correspondance or Correspondant Storytelling.
@@smokintoes Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is indeed a stonking read. I've never found Austen to be an author who holds my interest but the rewrite was great fun. 😁👍
I heard that the entirety of 40k is the compilation of just such disparate reports and not from one omniscient truth. This helps explain any contradictions and plot holes as two or more imperfect interpretations.
I'm listening to your fabulous rendition of this epic saga for what must easily be the 4th or 5th time at least. I thoroughly enjoyed this epic tale! I'm fairly new to Warhammer 40K so I didn't know that certain things in this story have been retconned since it was published. Therefore it didn't spoil my immersion at all, not like perhaps for someone who has been into the 40K universe for a long time. The religiosity of the imperium, and how it affected the way they remained steadfast in battle had strong emphasis in this story, along with the enormous scale of the battle. Great stuff!
Great story!! I notice the difference between the different versions. I feel that overall the two stories together actually give a fuller account. Thinking of it from the fact that these are both written in a different way, and that all the details may not have been available from the narrators point of view, like hearing of a concert from various friends. We were all there, some noticed this… and others that… Some witnessed certain things, while others didn’t. But, from hearing everyone eye witness account, you get a grander sense of the entirety, I guess what I’m trying to explain.. Again, well done!! I know this is an older one of yours, but, you had it then, and still got the narrative chops!! Thanks mate!
You know, I could see this kinda fit with your reading of 'The Fall of Cadia' reading. The necros drove off the blackstone, then it comes back with a greater fleet lead by abby himself at its head. The Necros were different to Trayzan too. Different dynasty or something.

In one of my first play throughs I played as a criminal megacorp. I rushed opening the gateways, not knowing what it could hold within. At that point the galaxy was crippled by the crime I caused, rendering anyone unable to deal with the grey tempest. One by one, every empire fell to the tempest while I feverishly defended my territory. Because I was xenophile, all refugees ended up on my broken ringworld. In the end, there was not a single habitable world left, except for my ringworld.
