A true Celtic love ballad with the voices of angels in a fallen world. Beauty in a fairytale of folklore fit for a mystic wedding.I simply love this song Carly and Ben.
A beautiful song sung by the beautiful voices of Carly and Ben Simon . These are classy , artistic and lovely performers . Ben surely has influences of his talented father and super-talented and sensitive mother. Carly has been one of my very favorite artists since I first saw her perform in Princeton some 45 years ago . Not only is her music superb , but her intellect and humanity are par excellence . Ben should go very far in the music business ; he's got all it takes . Rock on, Ben ....and Carly , I can't thank you enough for your delightful contributions to this often sorrowful world . George Lewis, Sr. (. . . Please check out my son , Twin Shadow , aka George Lewis, Jr. )
Wonderful...Mom and son! I came of age in the late '60's and early '70's...Carly and James were all over the radio and in my music collection. Great to hear Ben and Carly on this lovely ballad.
amazing song and i had tears in my eyes. i asked David Saw when i was chatting with him after the Ben Taylor concert here in SC what Carly was working on and David said 'she's writing songs for a celtic album' and then i heard this lovely song and thought maybe this is what he was speaking of? its a beautiful song and on my meds these days i can break down and cry whenever i hear something so pretty as i did when i heard this. thanks for posting it. peace, marc
How gorgeous! I'm so glad I stumbled across this. I too have no idea where or when this beautiful rendition was recorded, but Carly and her sister Lucy originally sang it on their first album ("Meet the Simon Sisters"; 1964), where it was called "Waley, Waley (The Water Is Wide)." Thank you for sharing!
I just gave this another listen, with thoughts of Carly, in light of the death of her sister Lucy (with whom she first recorded this tune) on Thursday, along with that of her sister Joanna, who died Wednesday. Lucy and Joanna were both exceptional talents in their own rights, Lucy first as half of the Simon Sisters (a folk-duo with Carly), and then as a celebrated Broadway composer; sister Joanna had an illustrious career as an opera and concert singer; their brother Peter, a renowned photographer, died in 2018. My heart goes out to Carly and family in this time of loss.

an old folk song
Song is out of balance. The harmony is overpowering the melody.
Pretty but yes, the melody gets lost.
It’s a gorgeous, stand alone harmony line - I’ve no problem with this
Beautiful!!
