Born and raised in NYC moved from Bushwick Brooklyn to Chelsea Manhattan and I had more friends than I would like to admit that got sent to Rikers as we grew up and when they came home none of them was the same. Almost like they experienced so much stress that their minds was just dead and it was so hard to hold a simple conversation with them just heartbreaking man. Rikers is one place that I always told myself I would never want to go. It’s why I walked a righteous path all of my life. My mom always told me never do anything fast take your time and get your money the right way. That always stuck with me.

Some fun info about Eddie White: His first escape was in 1989, though it wasn't from jail. He was being questioned at the precinct when he threw a typewriter at a detective and booked it by jumping through a second floor window. He was caught 4 months later. He was charged with shooting a stock broker during a robbery. His second escape was in 1991. He wasn't in Rikers, he was in Brooklyn House of Detention. He escaped from a windowless cell on the 5th floor. He used a dummy and everything. He lasted about 7 weeks on the streets before killing a bartender in another robbery gone wrong. Police had no idea that it was him who did it, they just rolled up on his apartment and were like "oh... well, shit."
If Eddie White is still alive, he would be about 58 years old. Probably still in prison, though I can't find where. He has at least 2 murders under his belt, one of which was committed while he was on the run for the other one, plus with 2 escapes, there's no way he ever saw daylight again.

Man, rikers island. My uncle was on Rikers Island for 3 years before being sent down state then being shipped up north. Before he went to Rikers he was a wild dude. He did a nine year stretch upstate and came back a completely different person. Said Rikers Island was harder than the nine years he did and was only the island for 3 years fighting on trial. After having a lot of friends go there I don't wish it on no one. Especially the current state that it is in now, hell even before that. Stay off the rock and don't let your emotions dictate your future.

I rarely see you even slightly taken aback or not in the know about "thangs" on the inside, but it seemed, by your reaction, your not up on razors in mouths.
It's very common in the NY system--especially so on Rikers.
Its one of the first things I learned how to do at Rikers when I was 14(C-74 adolescent unit). Razor were in abundance there, even for juveniles.
Long story short is you pop the blade out of a disposable razor. You tuck this behind your upper lip, sometimes the lower. There is a reason for that positioning.
The blade is called an "Ox". I do not knoe why. That's what it was called even in my Grandfather's days and, I surmise, it still is.
Carrying it in your mouth is called, "toting ox" or just "toting"(Banger is also used interchangably).
Up above you may have noticed I said that it was one of the first things, " I learned".
Doesn't seem like it is a skill one would need to learn. Oh but it is. Think about walking around all day with a very sharp piece of metal tucked in you lip like some dip.
Now also try(I stress try. Why? Because until you actually are all in and doing it, you do not think about just how careful you must be. Very careful.
After you wrap your head around just toting it, eating with it, drinking your beloved coffee w/ it safely in you lip, then you need to stsrt thinking about HOW when that beef starts to cook and come to the moment where the steel needs to come out, HOW the fuck are you getting that damn thing out in order tp use it. Before you read on take a second to answer that to yourself.
The answe, and it may sound far fetched is to spit it into your hand.
    Yup, spit that shit.
With practice it can be done with amazing speed by just doing what looks like just quickly wiping your mouth.
Most times the other guy is left wondering. A low "phhwippp" is the only sound it makes and that is usually drowned out by the bedlam of other sounds that are constantly bouncing off of all the cement walls.
Practice and some study is very necessary for you to even know what parts off the human anatomy is his type of weapon proper to be against.
This is not an easy tool to kill with. Its actually almost impossible to body a person with an Ox, especially when your opponent isn't usually real big in getting sliced.
Most ppl who know what they're are doing go first for the eyes. Whether Homeboy blinks or not it really doesn't matter. I saw a kid(yes, a kid. Him and I were both in C-74, the old Adolescent unit. Its something else now. RNDC(?) with one dead, milky colored eye and a stitch scar across his eyelid. Nasty fucking scar, too. All raised and pink against his boot black skin tone.
The neck is also a common place as are wrists and the crock of the arm. Real messy in those places, and once you hsve blood on your hands there is 0% chance of still being effective with it. You might as well toss it.
The most popular spot, though is down the cheek. The slice being given from just below the ear down to the corner of the mouth.
I'd be shocked if you have not heard the common slang term for this type if wound:
    The Buck Fifty.
Named as such because it is said that's how many stitches it will take to sew you backed up(also called laced. To lace a person means to slice them.
All in all going for your Ox is a last resort or more importantly to get a motherfuck, or motherfuckers, plural, the fuck up off you long enough for you to either go for your primary banger or hope a C/O happens by to save your ass.
    Which rarely happens of Rikers.
Note: A lot has changed on Rikers. As I said C-74 isn't adolescent and most importantly somewhere in the 90's staff on thecIskand have begun free world charging cats get caught walking around on Rikers "wit dat stainless on 'em".
Anyways, good channel, and sorry for such a long post, I know you got a fucking assload off comments to read through
All spelling and grammar mistakes are intentional. You know, to let a motherfucker know I'm so 'bout that life I even break the laws of grammar.

How’s it going Josh? Thanks for that awesome look into how things were back then. I can see many changes, I’m sure the basics are the same but they definitely do not allow inmates to wear sunglasses and hats as they please. I know at one time there was a severe shortage in staffing and the inmates had a lot more rights than they do today. I’d love to see some video around when the riots happened in Attica. My brother served several years there and according to him it was the most corrupt prison he ever served time in. If you ever want an interview with him he served 25 years all in a max-a facility. Almost 3 years were in a box facility near the Canadian border. We don’t speak anymore but I’m sure he would talk to you if anyone is interested in hearing his story. He claims to have spent his time self , that means no gangs , no pc , just touching it out by yourself with no protection. I honestly don’t know if it’s true or not maybe you could figure it out. Thanks again Josh. Take care man!!
