I've been in the indiana state prison, but only for a day. I played college basketball and the prison invites teams in to play their prison team! No joke. This was in 1999 when I was a freshman in college. Their gym was really nice, with pool tables along one side and weights on the other. The inmates actually rooted for us, it was crazy. I'm only 6 foot tall but could dunk and they kept calling me "Springs". Little white boy dunking. I had 25 points and made a few of them look like fools.... the inmates went nuts. Crazy part is the refs were inmates!! But as a 18-19 year old kid it was an eye opening experience and a privilege for the inmates to have us come in and play. Not sure if they do that anymore but it was something I'll never forget.

How’s it going Josh? Those dog cages remind me of visiting my brother when he was in a box facility. It was a prison specifically for people who commit violence within the prison system . This was in upstate NY a place called Southport, it was 231/2 ton1/2 . Only 1/2 hour a day through a door they open at the back of the cell your locked in, no transport anywhere, they do everything right in that cell, shower, eat, everything! Just 1/2 hour in that cage by yourself. It was in the first couple years of him being in prison and he was in the gladiator school at that time, a max -A prison with mostly young violent offenders who will never get out, the only thing they have to lose is what freedoms and and luxuries they are given in prison for good behavior. It’s all some have. Take that away they have nothing and are reduced to a very dangerous person who has absolutely nothing to lose. He was being tested by certain individuals and they chose to do the one thing that would have set him off and made him not care about the consequences, they stole his necklace that our father had given to him before he died. My father died while my brother was in prison and he chose a deathbed visit and was brought to the hospital accompanied by 4 guards, fully handcuffed and shackled. They was the last time he saw our father and it was an extremely emotional experience they I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I could barely function and deal with it myself and I had my wife and relatives to comfort me, they refused to release even one arm so he could hug my father one last time. We begged them but they were cold and didn’t give a crap , they felt no compassion . He was sobbing the entire time , we all were it was beyond horrible. Afterwards they took him away. I honestly cannot imagine having to see what we did and to see your father for the last time and then have to go back to that horrible place where no one cares about what you just lost and how you feel. It was shortly after that that someone stole the necklace our father gave him. He stabbed two guys and hit two other and beat them all pretty badly. They put him in shu , a guard had been bringing his food and would taunt him, they would laugh at his sorrow and pain. It came time for him to be transferred and they had handcuffed him through the door in preparation. That guard came and asked him to come to the door and my brother told him to fuck off and come in and get me and refused to obey. One thing anyone should know is you might be tough enough to get back at other prisoners but if you cross the guards in the right place, you’ll wish you hadn’t. They sent in a special unit of guards to extract him from the cell and they beat him senseless handcuffed. He was bruised from head to toe and had a literal foot print on his chest. That’s when he was sent to the box facility for 2 years. It’s how they teach you a hard learned lesson, that you better listen or things can get worse than you think they can. Your time can go smoothly or not. When I’d visit he was behind a cage handcuffed from the ankles to the floor and his hands handcuffed and could reach under a 6-8 inch gap at the bottom. I’ve been on many prisons and none quite like it. Prisoners had no contact with each other, only to shout to one another if outside close enough to their cage. The only time he left his cell was for visits and he’d be handcuffed and cuffed at the ankles to the floor. I’m sure they was a rough stretch and I’m sure taught him a lot. So I guess the moral of the story is, anyone who thinks that just being in prison is bad and you have nothing to lose, think again, it is bad but can get alot worse and you have much more to lose than you think! Thanks again Josh, your channel always reminds me of different things I’ve experienced over 25 years visiting my brother and experiencing what it’s like to have a loved one in prison. Thanks man. Your an inspiration for anyone who thinks they can’t turn their life around. Really powerful.

I was on a maintenance detail at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison which houses the states death row. My detail had to do some electrical work there. For 3 days I was stuck there trying to fix the fucked up out dated wiring system that had malfunctioned.
Really the main difference I noticed between there and any other mainline I have been on from Jersey to Georgia was that it quiet. Even when the convicts spoke to each other through the doors it was in fairly subdued tones.
It would have been a relatively unmemorable time if it wasn't for the reason one of the convicts kicked up a conversation with me while I was in the "trap" that is like a closet between the cells and houses the plumbing and some electrical shit.
Small talk, really. I wound up telling him about New York and we talked about Savannah, where he was from--and where he killed cop or was said to have killed a cop.
We wound up talking chess. The only guy that he used to play with there there was currently "being a bitch" about some coffee.
I wound up telling him, I'd play him, and how one of my girl's father and I played through the mail.
Fuck it stamps were cheap and I still had 14 months to build.
Him and I played together even after my release.
In all our record was 76 to 42 games my way.
With his last move in our last game he took my knight with his rook. It was a sacrafice move on my part. A sucker move that I was about to capitalize on a lay down his whole rank and file.
I got the move in the mail 28 Sept 2011.
I didn't know it then because I had never wanted to discuss his case, but there would be no more moves.
Troy Davis was put to death on Sept 21 2011.
I'm still kind of mad that I didn't get the chance to beat him that last fucking game. I had been setting that move up for over a month.

I remember when that kid first came into the prison. He was placed in F-dorm. Most people are sent to cell houses, but because of his age he was placed in the dorm, which is an honor dorm. Rarely any violence in the dorm. One thing I'll never forget about him is I remember him playing basketball in the gym and he twisted his ankle. He started crying hysterically like the baby he was!🤣😂. I was 23 yrs. old when I went in and I am now 62. Had a 50 yr. sentence and I've been out now since 2004. Never thought I'd get out of that system, much less stay out about as long as I was in there. Only by the grace of God

Laid down for almost 2 years to beat every case. If you get a chance there’s a pretty historic prison here in Missouri. The old walls, the bloody 40 or better known as JCCC. I’m really blown away by the living situation here. I was on death row as overflow for the hole with a few other guys and it was nothing like this. SCI Graterford in PA. J block. It was just a standard cell with anything you can order on commissary. It’s just totally mind blowing to me the size of these cells. Some are like studio apartments in New York.
I am really impressed to see that the one man had a cat. I think that may be possibly the most therapeutic thing I have ever seen in prison. This men are sentenced to death and even if they did commit the alleged crimes, it doesn’t dehumanize them. They should be allowed to have something to care for. Something to help deal with the mental anguish of knowing your fate.

That Ritchie I remember when he caught that case for shooting that officer. I've met guys who got their case outcome changed that was in that death row. Rough existence

Here in north carolina they have the dog program. The local animal shelter bring dogs down for 6-8weeks to get use to people and be trained. Most camps the dog stays in the dorm with the trainer.

Glad U caught this Vid Death. Indiana State Pris. is just outside of Chicago. 'Sir' Trevor McDonald did this Vid. McDonald did many of these in Indiana. The black bguy, Mr. Ronald Sanford, well they are trying to spring him OUT of Indiana after the double homicide at 13.. Really. Frederick Baer, the white dude with long red-hair is apparetnly NOT on death row anymore. He is a 'lifer' now since his death sentence was commuted down to Life. Sir Trevor McDonald is well known in the U.K and is big name in U.K. for this and other documentaries - Knighted, really. Mr Baer, long red-haird guy who is now a lifer did a home invasion, killed mother and daugther - unbelievable on a Meth trip. Incredible you found this dude. Dam good Catch....
