the fall of the sorcerer started when he put level up points into health, not magic
the fall is that he didn't use mana shield and had 1hp* (as you could done in D1 100% legal**. All guys on BN did it as if you had less than 10hp you couldn't be stunned or blocked. You had constant perfect FHR)
*max 1hp 1/1 with full points in health
** in 4lvl you had yellow zomies, didnt remeber the name, and those zombies decreased your max health by every hit. Just take hew hits and your max health go down
I even have my chars form battle new saved somewhere on mail:)
But he didn't put points in health, The Summoner goes down in like 2 hits once you actually reach him.

I absolutely agree with what you said about the sorcerer not getting credit from anyone. Prominent characters who sacrificed themselves like the three heroes in 1 and tal rasha just don't get the legacy they deserve. Heck deckard cain was so careful to make sure that diablo daughter host character in 3 would get a clean legacy. The aforementioned deserve far better than her.

That cringe at the end. What a disgrace. They know nothing about the legacy of D2 and it's disgusting. The triumphant success of Diablo continues to make that company filthy rich and they don't even have respect for what David Brevik and his team accomplished for them.
You know who needs to "go back to the beginning"? Blizzard, that's who! Sign the petition asking...Nay, DEMANDING Blizzard to release a HD version of the original Diablo, complete with all the content that was cut from the official release; all the NPC's, quests, areas, items, etc. Blizzard owes us (not really. They don't owe us shit)! Blizzard needs to do the right thing and give us what we want (Really, it's just me...this is what I want...).

Diablo 2 held up so we'll over the years a remake of D1 probably would've been better. Quality of life improvements like hold to repeat effects, higher resolution, and a run and such.
Today's Blizzard isn't the one who made Diablo. That talent is gone. It's ancient alien technology to the current Blizzard.
This was one of your best lore videos by far. It really covers the length of the character in all of the franchises incarnations.

David Brevik literally wanted Diablo to have no story at all, the lore for D1&2 was written by Chris Metzen and Phil Shenk amongst others. Chris was the guy sitting at the left.
Edit: I’m no so sure, but I also believe the one in the center to be Phil Shenk.

ok, the idea that the summoner is a sorcerer from diablo I is great. I just don't get it why they make him look like a white guy then. Sorcerer was black then why summoner is made to look like this. Strange.
I never looked closely at him but think he is lighter, yes.
He was more tan to brown skinned.
When evil corrupts someone, his or her appearance changes. Aidan gradually became uglier the more closer he is to Travincal. Maybe the sorcerer became more pale as life leaves his body.

An idea I have about the Sorcerer from Diablo 1 is that maybe he was still sane enough to seek refuge, and hoped that Horazon’s sanctuary was still safe from demonic influence.
Only after reaching the arcane sanctuary was it revealed the sorcerer had been manipulated by the forces of Terror, and was at some point trapped by the demonic forces.
Whether the sorcerer was lured into a den already filled with demons or corrupted by dark influences to think he was able to control demons as Horazon supposedly did, I think it makes sense that for a while the sorcerer stayed sane in the same way the warrior took time to be controlled by Diablo himself

Probably we should wait for a David Brevik official statement about the Sorcerer. The Blizzard crew that was on stage didn't even know what the guy was asking.
David is no longer with Blizzard and doesn’t have control of Diablo anymore, anything he says now is not canon due to him having no control over the subject. Simply he can say one thing and Activision can make it false.

Thank you very much for making this, I was running this in my head for a few days after your Blood Raven video, but wanted to exhaust all possibilities with what I know of the lore before asking.
After many years of playing D2 it surprises me to see i never did hear all the dialogue options from the NPCs in towns. I had no clue that the Summoner was an imposter and not the real Horazon. Learning new things every day. TY for your comprehensive lore videos.

You probably did listen to all the dialogue from your first play through on normal with your first character. Then just progress into constant runs. Trist, Andy, chaos, Baal. It goes so quick 1 to 85.

Man i hate the sorcerer, not because its hard, but because its so easy to kill and he has an Great presentation (evil laugh, some dangerous spells), but the first time i Meet him, i just killed him by accident (i kill him with the spear spell from the necromancer, which wasnt for him) and i Didnt know what to do in the moment.
Always love it when the Blizzard people on stage are suppose to know the game don't know the first game summoner...

@@ameiru1 dude that was Chris Metzen on stage. He was one of the guys who created the Diablo universe and worked on the story for Diablo 2. This is decades later so he probably just forgot?

I would LOVE to see a summoner in Diablo 4. And as for Horazon's kill quote, I think Necromancer summed it up the best.

Those guys at the lore panel handled that question so shittily... no even remembering where the summoner is encountered, what a joke. Why were they even on a lore panel if they had trouble answering this question about a pretty important character from D1...

Because besides Chris Metzen, the rest are new Blizz people that didnt work on D2 and D1. Only a few people from Blizzard North ended up staying. They should have just kept all over Blizzard North to work on D3

Always slightly bothered by how powerful your sorcerer character is by the end of D1, and how easily he fails from grace in the sequel. Not sure if this is a testament to how much more powerful the new batch of heroes are supposed to be in comparison, or if Diablo hadn’t reached his full potential in D1, and as such the heroes from that story weren’t as mighty as we were lead to believe.

Diablo in the original game was inhabiting the body of a small teenaged prince. Not the strongest vessel from the get-go.

I don’t believe so, Sierra didn’t really flesh out the lore of their expansion very much, and since all of it is considered non canon, nobody really delved much into the lore of that game; if any exists at all.

I believe the character of Horazon is strongly influenced by the Islamic version of King Solomon. He is considered unworldly wise in all Abrahamic traditions, but in the Quran he is a full blown sorcerer with magic carpets and a magic ring, which he used to command and compel demons to do his bidding and construct the first temple of Jerusalem.

The energy on that panel was underwhelming. If I'd been answering questions up there, and someone asked me if the sorcerer's fate was that -- I would have given it a delivery. Without the context from Dash, I'm not certain I'd even have realized what was being talked about. They glossed over something pretty fascinating imo.

@@DarkLOREDash OMG my thoughts exactly. The "one day too late and dollar short" theme completely disappeared from Blizzard in 2010s, everything is "Just in Time" and conveniently set up... higher power intervention etc... ok enough from me i don't want to intervene with your craft!
10 years late and not really told in the original game = not true. but blizzard is happy to say it was the sorcerer from d1 becaue some people want to hear it and it actually makes blizzard look better in their eyes. thing is, the guy from the arcane sanctuary is just who the people in town say it is. is not like bloodraven with is clear that is the rogue from d1 and there are several dialogs that hint at it.
i would have been cool if the sorcerer was him, but it wasnt planned for.
I had a level 99 sorcerer in Diablo 2 and it was so powerful it made the game to easy.
where can i get all these mods/diablo hd version? seems a far cry from a simple patch loader that allows qol like holding alt to see items,HD support, and allowing different difficulty on single player, or belzebub

Well that explains my confusion when I was 14-15 and playing D2 like a madman (hardcore ruined me, I've been a permadeath junkie for 16 years because of this game). I always wondered why he was called a "false summoner" when he was tagged as "The summoner" in combat... And no, I hadn't played D1 at the time and didn't really follow all the intricacies of the lore.
Because your character and every npc in Diablo 2 believed that it was Horazon himself in the sanctuary, everyone assumed that the Sorcerer from Diablo 1 perished in the sanctuary. So when everyone found out it wasn’t Horazon(the true summoner) himself, the summoner in Diablo 2(Diablo 1 sorcerer) was labeled the false summoner. The heroes and npc of Diablo 2 were pissed off for it to not be Horazon due to the fact that everyone wanted closure and answers, some of the heroes wanted the feat of killing the true Harazon, only to be robbed when they found out that it’s simply a normal sorcerer.
Poor guy fell so low Diablo2's Necromancer canonically roasted him....

The answer was "No," though this is entirely possible as seen in "Legacy of Blood."
As far as Horazon's fate, this is indeed unclear, however we do gain sharp insight in the knowledge that Horazon exists both within and as part of the Arcane Sanctuary, which exists in its own demiplane spanning a distance greater than just Aranoch.

Can anyone explain to me why Marius says "lo lo lo lo lo" in the cinematic with baal? I always thought he was saying no no no but after watching the cinematic with subtitles in D2R they explicitly show him saying "lo".

He is not corrupted in my playthrough not any more than the other three classes (including monk) anyway. When I finished the game with Sorcerer, same ending cinematic played anyway :)

Blizzard North compared to Activision Blizzard is like comparing a wild cat to a neutered, groomed and collared city cat. It's but a shell of it's former self, riding only on the shoulders of it's past glory. Alas the Blizzard you once knew is now but a drizzle in the wind.
Legacy Of Blood Is my Favorite Story The Book is so good. The Witch, The General with the Helm and the poor veteran wearing the awesome armor. Cant forget the female necro and her two undead friends.
of the 3 stories, I'm disappointed with the rouges disappointing ending by comparison... 2 thoughts here, she was the second boss, creature thing... compared to the Wanderer of the 3, but neither comes close to that, or even the Summoner, who is a late stage boss in Act 2... either it's disappointing she was the second boss thing, and she should've been a later act boss, or, she was the second boss thing, because she's iconic and for many people perhaps playing Diablo 2 and not 1 it was a good introduction to the game... power still feels a bit underwhelming after taking on Diablo

I'd really love to hear how the brothers 3 were kicked out of hell? I believe the lesser evils all teamed up and banished them but getting the full story would be cool to know. If done that would be an excellent war. Hell vs Hell a civil war.
