  • Here we have the new MTX8 Pin Matrix from Future Sound Systems. This is an 8 input, 8 output pin matrix device that can route and mix/sum signals and create feedback paths. It’s an active powered unit that runs internally on +/- 15V rails making it suitable for guitars, line level, studio gear, FX pedals and modular. It works with not just audio but control voltages and modulation as well as clocks, gates and triggers. The guitar version has a high gain JFET pre amp with low end roll off, aggressive tone control and bags of level on top. Flicking in the clipping and we have tubescreamer style overdrive that’s responsive and dynamic for not just guitar but synths and other audio too.

    For those interested there’s the MTX9 Eurorack version which is available in passive (EMS Synthi VCS3 style) or active versions for mounting and powering in a Eurorack system.

    Thank you for a very informative video! I've reached the critical mass of gear and routing needs in my studio where the MTX8 is quite appealing and may help me think more creatively outside of traditional linear signal routing patterns

      I've really enjoyed it with just a couple of pedals and a synth and also with a more involved, larger set up.

    I am so glad I saw this. While I am 100% not buying the standalone version, the link following I did because of this video led me to the eurorack module and that is 100% being bought

    Excellent Ben great to see the face behind the modular videos. Great demo too. Good to see you play guitar as well. Trying to decide between this box and the new Erica Synths one that has more ability to create presets.

      Yeah it really is. I'm considering a second one, as I want to tie this one up to routing keyboards into pedals before my interface then another to float around the studio for various creative routing on the fly.

    I had the same Copicat but sold it to my friend. I want it back!

    • @DivKid

      I was never that fussed for the WEM Copicat (forget the model no./name) that everyone seems to have (more widely available). They're about £200 and easy to find but no rate control so just speed selection from choosing the tape head. The IC-400 model though I've really been enjoying. There's a few unknowns of the tape echo world for not much money but it's often a case of just taking a risk with them. My Simms Watts Echo Dek I'd never heard of but found one cheap.

      @@DivKid I bought a broken RE101 for about £200 a couple of years ago, and found this old boy near me who use to service video players back in the 80's to have a go at sorting the tape bias out, got it working like a dream.

    Great video as usual. Any thoughts on the one without the gain/tone? I ask because there is a standard version on sale locally. I'd be using this with my eurorack and various other synths and pedals. No guitars.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 роки тому

      Hi Andreas, well you can work four stereos without the pre amp, however I really like the pre amp. Whether it's before or after FX, driving and adding some character to synths, in a feedback loop it's great.
      But it may just not be desirable or necessary for you. I guess re-watch the bits of the video where I'm using the pre amp and get a feel for whether you'd like it or not. I guess if you're not into overdrive pedals and that sort of thing for your sounds then maybe go for the one without?

      a matrix mixer is what you're looking for. Few options in modular and some units outside of modular too. What format would you prefer it in?

      @@DivKid I've been checking out many different ones just now, I guess at this point I'm looking for inspiration from unique/creative/novel/endgame matrix mixer setups, so I can build the ultimate one in m4l.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  3 роки тому +4

      I'd just get straight to building it in Max4Live. Fairly simple premise, multiple ins that can feed multiple outs in varying levels. Most are 4x4. So 16 knobs.
      Here's a passive simple one, it's a module but like many of the pedal /desktop format ones. shop.256klabs.com/product/matrix-mixer
      Here's a larger one with more control www.modulargrid.net/e/low-gain-electronics-dubmatrix
      Here's one with VCAs and mute switches so you can vary the level with voltage to each of the mixes you're building. 4mscompany.com/vcam.php?c=5

      welcome to be curious and ask @thomas synths ... my thought too @stephen Mandelbaum
      To answer both of those ... I've been making music in a professional capacity for 15 years or so now. Playing music for over 20. So over a longer period I've amassed a lot. I've also dedicated my life to nothing but music, don't care for cars, drinking etc and that's saved a lot of money over the years. In terms of the day job ... doing this, making demo videos. Income is split between the videos, composition and production music royalties, some engineering jobs and a few little side bits.
