Wow, i'm almost lost for words... What a clever little module, and the applications look to be endless. This opens up so many possibilities for sound design before the audio even hits the DAW for recording!
Man, I love this module. I commented on the Superbooth preview that it reminded me of those LCR mixers of yore, and I think that still holds, but the feedback section at the end of the video is unexpected and really inspired.
I wanted to split my subharmonicons 6 voices into a stereo setting but since its paraphonic i need to run it through a new filter. This is the perfect solution for something like that
So the way this module lays out what it is doing is so great that it made me figure out how to do the same thing with my Hexmix and proper routing of my current setup.
spetznaazz basically by adjusting the equalizer settings and L/R per track, you can basically spread various sounds around the stereo image of your mix.
Sorry if this is a stupid question (I'm new to modular synths). At 5.30 minutes, where do the black cables go to out of shot? Is it an output module or another mixer? Do you patch to the left in and right in of another mixer? Thanks!
Hello, not a stupid question at all. No stupid questions (at least not here, not to me), we're all new to this at one point and new nothing about it. So feel free to ask anything any time. At 5:30 in the video those black right angled cables are inputs from another module. Everything in the 3D square graphics up top is an input to the mixer. Left to right deals with the panning, so those black cables are the most extreme left and right and vertical position deals with filtering to place frequencies in the mix in a "3D soundstage" as is the intention of the module. So the left hand black input will be weighted to a darker lower frequency sound in the filtering while the right side black input will be filtered around higher frequencies. The output of this module is the two yellow cables under the knobs with L and R (hard to tell with fancy fonts sometimes) on the boxes around those sockets. I hope that helps. You could take that stereo out (the two yellow cables I mention) into another mixer, or output module, or speakers. It's up to you where you want this mixer to be in your signal chain.
I experienced that soundstage gets quite when depth is on noon position. Anyone else experienced the same? Is it meant to work like this? Maybe I do something wrong, thanks for tips:-)
Do you mean on its inputs? It is possible to overdrive the inputs; from what I understand it's not meant to have all of the inputs going at once. Right now I have a patch set up using 7 inputs and it sounds fine. Combined with the LRMSMSLR, it's KILLER.
I presume with the much lower line level outputs from the RD-8 you could fill a lot more Soundstage inputs without it overdriving, but I’m curious if the level control has enough make up gain.
@@wordsoundpoweri8149 I could test it with a line level source to be sure, but I would venture to say yes. However, if you are mixing and matching euro with line level, there's no way to balance them within the Sound Stage itself.
Hey, thanks for the offer Ben! I wouldn’t be mixing levels in the soundstage. I’m really just trying to get 12 drum machine outputs into my WMD mixer with panning, the filtering is huge bonus. I’d take the stereo outs from the SS and put them on a channel in my main mixer for fader control over SS level. I’ve also got a LRMSSMRL and it is really useful in euro. Found a Shakmat version that’s only 2hp. But of course; same function at half the hp equals more expensive.
Clever module, probably perfect for some. It’s maybe not so well suited to a large-ish system, although I suppose it could be an interesting submixer. Makes me intrigued by a slim module with a bunch of fixed resonant filters-Soundstage minus the panning and summing. I don’t think any such thing quite exists. Bastl comes close with the Propust.
Agreed, a larger system would probably need two Sound Stages; I can see myself having two Sound Stages and two or three LRMSMSLRs, and my system isn't even that big, about 400 hp.
This is amazing... My only worry is mono compatibility; as when I set this video to mono and invert the phase; there's a lot of sounds that would get rejected.
Worng really gets it right. They SO SO SO get it. This module is brilliant. Nothing like it outside of a DAW. A skiff of just this and format jumblers would make a Buchla or Serge come to life (attn @DARK SPARKLER) Just don't put bass too wide or I'll come to your house and beat you with my Mastering Stick. :-p

Genius module concept. Not having tried it myself it seems the delivery is there as well.
Thanks for all the excellent content you are creating!
Cheers David I appreciate that.
I am absolutely loving the Sound Stage; mixer AND filter?! Pefect! Great review/overview!

This rules
Yeah smart music production ideas applied to simple to use Eurorack modules. Total win.
Absolutely ace. The feedback made the hairs on my arms stand up

Really nice example patches. I've really enjoyed mine so far. Very clever module.

Can the hexmix do more than this module?
What did you learn to do? I have a hexpander but use it in a very basic way

11:45 Ooohhhhh yessssss!
What an insane module
Very useful, future me wants this.
yeah it's fantastic.
That feedback patch is lush
17:13 impressive patch!
Yeah, I’ve been waiting for this video!
Aww yeah I really love this.
Just putting it out there: if you still don't have headphones on for these, I don't know what to say.
What if I've got two genelec studio monitors pointed at me
@@lewissmart7915 then you would probably tell everyone
This is amazing. Such a fantastic idea from Worng
8:00 That long yellow cable hurtssssss 😓
I was wondering what note it would play if he plucked it.
If only it had the option to move the pan position via cv too....... An expander module for that would be amazing.
Grrrr I've no budget left but this looks kinda essential! :)
Thats fantastic!

Very cool module
How does it handle line levels? I would love to run the individual outs of the upcoming RD-8 into it. Does the level control have enough gain?

@@wordsoundpoweri8149 Okay, no problem. When I break down this patch in the next few days I will get something recorded for you!
Yes, please.
Great Vid as always! Which is the sound source at at about 16.20? Thanks :)
Very nice! That feedback patch is gold. I'm guessing you could effectively get the same result by pairing an FxDf with a TXn or Nearness?
This would pair very nicely with a planar or 2 methinks. 😀

Holy fuck! The feedback patch...
Great it looks like an equalizer and pan mixer, but what about the gain Of each insert ?
\/\/hat a module! It’s finger licking good

And brilliant patch ideas, Ben. Well done.
And the patch at 09:10 is totally negatively correlated. Totally silent in mono. Caveat emptor.
