Awesome design. I'll have to keep that in the back of my mind for future projects. I think reed switches would also have good potential for some kind of patch matrix design.

oh yeah and then the pins have tiny magnets on them/ are magnetised. I like that that has no necessary contact to make it work

Very nice. Exactly as imagined a diy pin matrix would be fabbed. Definitely need one meself.... now to figure out the pcb ordering process....

How is the durability of the metal inside the holes? I am a bit worried that it will wear off relatively fast. But it still is a nice idea.

depends on the thickness of the copper and the coating, I suspect. I had no problem using this one more than 100 times and not really noticing too much wear, but I haven't had time to test it 1000's of times, unfortunately.
