RIP John Candy. You were one of the best comedic AND dramatic actors of all time. You got to show us what Farley and Belushi might have done with just a bit more time. I hope you’re making Him laugh hard up there. You’ve earned that privilege.
Out of all road trip movies, I think this is the best. This music gives you freedom vibes of hitting the open road and at the same time a little emotional because you'll have to drive back home after visiting family.❤❤❤❤
The scene on the train where he first smiles thinking about his family, then humor when he recollects his trip with Del, then concern when he thinks back over Del’s words about his wife. So powerful and not a single word spoken.
Did you know that scene wasn't scripted? He was going back home after filming and he was actually thinking about all the things that happened on set. The camera guy saw him and filmed him. It's was unplanned and it lead to that scene at the end.
@@devenous They used footage from in between takes on the train. They were filming Martin's scene on the train but decided to include footage where Martin was preparing and trying to focus on his lines. The way you said it doesn't make any sense. They weren't surreptitiously filming Steve Martin as he made his way home on the train after filming lol
Sad thing is..nowadays a lot more people including myself, are alone on the holidays. This is a good movie and song to remind you to cherish those important family ties...because no matter how old you are..your family can be taken in an instant.
Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday in honor of my mother and father and grandfather being humble at the table altogether and enjoying their love and company.
One of the most powerfully haunting, and beautiful music scores that I have ever heard. It's ambient and highly emotional human connective nature cries and speaks volumes about many things. It's very humbling and for me it just sets my brain straight. It's also very sad because it makes one realize just how much loss there has been in the last 27 years and how far this country has fallen. I feel like I live in a world today where everything is cold and shallow. Like no-one has any depth to them or feels any real human emotions anymore. This song is like a much needed cry and it feels so good. I literally feel like I haven't been home in years because America is just not the same place anymore.
I might not be on earth right now, but look into your heart and believe I am with you doing this and truly believing and you will see me, sure not with your eyes but your mind. Your mind is a powerful device.
I think everyone knows someone like John Candies character "Del''. Talks too much, does things that make no sense, but has the biggest heart you could ask for; so that other stuff just doesn't matter.
I had this song on my IPOD a few years back. I plugged it in to my stereo and this song played. I had just got back from Germany, I had been gone 2 months. I was an equipment engineer for a large company. I took a cab from the airport and picked up some pizza and a 6pack of beer, it was the day before Christmas and it was cold wet and raining outside. I sat in my tub eating pizza and drinking beer while listening to this song feeling so good that I was home, I almost didn't get the flight. It was the last time I was gone that long and I never went out of the country near the holidays again. I don't travel anymore in my career, those days are over, I don't miss it.
This film is really special for so many reasons, especially at this time of year when hopefully we all take the chance to really think about others and not just ourselves. It's funny, heartwarming and you can understand both characters......John Candy = legend.
A great soundtrack. You cant help but feel the emotion between these characters. To feel what Del has gone through and never looked back and live in this lonesome world he made of his own. We feel such compassion Del gives off despite some differences others like Neil may have had a problem ajusting at first. The fact is we sometimes forget were human.
One of the best comedies ever made and this scene always brings tears to my eyes. Love it and never get bored of watching it. RIP John Candy remember where I was and what I was doing the day you died. 😭
Such a thought provoking, atmospheric song. I live the 80's for the films and synth driven soundtracks. Definitely one of the best decades ever.... Very happy i bought this on vinyl recently. Thanks for the upload.
Beautiful song and movie- it's a timeless classic that'll never die in our hearts and memories. Thank you, Candy and Hughes...you will forever always be remembered.
I've never felt so sad watching a comedy then at this part. Feel so bad for Del and then it makes you think about the people in your life past and present. Great ending though when Neal goes back and brings him home for Thanksgiving. Really a good movie.
I have to agree that this movie was certainly one which sticks in your mind. The chemistry between the two actors was magnificent. The film was very very funny yet the ending was sad and heartwarming. John Candy was one of those actors you could not fail to love and he and Martin were an excellent blend together..
I don't have a particular bond with this movie or even John Candy.. I know he was great, but am too young to have really lived through that era.. Yet, I tear up during this scene, every time I see it. It's so genuine
John Hughes didn't just make movies, he made you a part of them. And the music he chose helped make you a part of them. Amazing talent, may never see another like him. We'll certainly never see another guy like John Candy. Forever missed.
every time i hear this........i get so upset and cry because john candy died march 4th,1994 at age 43. I love john candy. he's one of my favorite actors of all time. i really miss him so much. i wish i could have seen him in person but i couldn't cuz i was born in 1996
Am I the only one who actually will hear this instrumental play in their head during reminiscing? If I think about things like my childhood, or my highschool years, I hear this song.
“You wanna hurt me? Go right ahead if it makes you feel any better. I'm an easy target. Yeah, you're right. I talk too much. I also listen too much. I could be a cold-hearted cynic like you, but I don't like to hurt people's feelings. Well, you think what you want about me. I'm not changing. I…I like me. My wife likes me. My customers like me. 'Cause I'm the real article. What you see is what you get."
Thank you John Candy, Steve Martin, John Hughes, and for all that worked on this movie. It brightens my home every Thanksgiving. Every year I laugh when John laughs and says "I know you." That scene and the hotel room with the bottles of booze reminds me of my friend Bill and I and all the laughs we had. Just like that. Every day felt like summer camp.

Yep.

M. Night Shyamalan was like, "Hmmm...".
It was great writing honestly, very believable and definitely not mawkish.
