the first time I saw this movie was in Venezuela, 2012 a few months before leaving my country, this movie moves everything inside myself, I saw this film every single night before leaving... in the aeroplane, I always keep in my mind "never swim back, never swim back, never swim back"... I went to Mexico, after a while I become a Mexican citizen and I work as an architect for 5 years, my dream profession. Then I move to Canada following my architect dream. 3 months ago I get married with a beautiful woman, the woman of my life... I'm still swimming, but never back. mom, I love you and I miss you.
Saw this in the theater with my best friend when it came out more than 20 years ago. We just sat there, staring off into space, long after the credits rolled. The movie blew me away then, and it does now. It is, for many reasons, my favorite film of all time. The soundtrack only adds to that.
I think Titanic won it, as well as best picture and others. This film got so little recognition because of Titanic. But yeah, should've at least been nominated.
"You want to know how I did it? This is how I did it, Anton: I never saved anything for the swim back." Quite possibly one of the strongest delivered lines at a critical turning point in cinema history. Chills every time!
@@enigma51ted Anton, who is genetically engineered to be a stronger, superior swimmer, wants to know why Vincent, who does not have his genetic advantages, was able to swim farther than him when they were kids. Vincent's explanation is that Vincent, unlike Anton, was not saving his strength to swim back to shore. Vincent was able to go farther because he did not care if he swam out too far and could not make it back. They both do swim back but Vincent was willing to drown to win, while Anton was not. The quotation is powerful because it speaks to the indomitable human spirit-specifically, Vincent's refusal to let his physical limitations define his potential or success, a recurring theme in the movie.
This movie changed my life & perhaps saved my life when I was 18 and lost in this world. A brilliant cinema class teacher made me personnally watch this movie and write an essay about it. The following discussion this movie brang to me and that teacher made me realise so many things about life and, 10 years later, I get emotional just hearing the soundtrack now. I have almost the exact opposite story from my cinema class: Our professor was a writing instructor, and we watched everything BUT this film. When it came time to write and present on one of the films I was completely uninspired by any of them, so I decided to do my paper on Gattaca. Ended up with a pissed off professor (and somewhat confused classmates except for the other weird kid who'd seen it) but got an A out of the class anyway.

An absolute, though rather silent, hit of a film. It captures the essence of what is truly human in all of us...beyond molecular strings. I sometime believe this film does not receive the attention it should based on how close it comes to reality. The premise of this film is not far off, but I often wonder if, as a species, we are so well aware of what constitutes our humanity to make such choices with our genes? Perhaps that is why it is often underrated. Its reflective nature might prove insulting to our more capitalistic, supply-demand, customer-service, buy what your pay for mentality. Being human, after all, transcends such superficial misconceptions. This film forces us to look in the mirror, and question our science, our reality, our preconceived notions of ourselves. Well written and extraordinary direction. A diverse and talented cast from the main characters down to the supporting roles. An extraordinarily beautiful film with cinematography that is both ethereal and gritty. This is a movie that I still recommend to people, if they have not seen it. My favorite scene is that final urinalysis! That is, in my opinion, one of the most awesome reveal pieces in a movie right next Keyser Söze and "I am your father." If you never seen it, that is all I will say. The music captures this essence so accurately. The strings and percussion seem like the spirit pushing against a tide that shows no mercy, no quarter...yet continuously continues to challenge, protest, and struggle against incredible odds to break the bounds of the acceptable and impossible and demonstrate the possible. An unforgettable piece by Michael Nyman.
Christopher... Oh how I enjoyed your capture of this movie. Are you a writer? Reading your comment while listening to this music, somewhat gave me an outer body experienced, thank you Sir🤭🌹
Thank you, Mr. Nyman, for this composition. this is a poignant blend of sorrow and hope, evoking both tears and a quiet sense of optimism. I feel immense gratitude for the privilege of being able to experience such music in my lifetime. It’s a gift that touches the soul and stays with me forever.
I quite enjoy the fact this film has a relatively small following. It really gets under my skin and commands me to watch it, and it's good to know that in doing so, I'm a member of a small, select club.
Gattaca is my favourite movie of all time and I have seen thousands. It speaks a particular message to all of us, ahead of its time, yet it is relatively unknown. Poignant, powerful, passionate and pained - all emotions triggered by this spectacular work.
Jerome and Vincent’s bond is quite something. At first curious and cautious but later one of mutual respect and understanding as they recognise each other’s strengths and faults, leading to a deep friendship. Superb film.
One of the best soundtracks to compliment a movie. Inspiration and beautiful and haunting. It made Gattaca one of the best movies ever. The swooning violin and piano chorus of recapitulation just haunts me.

Just beautiful. Haunting. A perfect complement to the acting and cinematography. I always tear up or cry when I watch this movie, the music being a huge reason why it all resonates with me. I first watched this in biology class in high school, and it has always stuck with me. Something about the atmosphere of the film, how the composition of the music and the eery cinematography and film style combine is something special to experience.
I saw this movie just because Michael Nyman had composed the score. Not only was I especially pleased with the music, the film itself happily surprised me for having such an interesting story, theme, acting, design, etc. Nice touch to see Ernest Borgnine and, of all people, Gore Vidal.
I think Gattaca is an allegory like Pilgrim's Progress. On the surface a story about a physical journey to escape the restraints of earth's gravity. But underneath a story for us about a spiritual journey to escape the restraints on our souls. "I don't want to be in there [Gattaca]. I want to be up there [the stars]."

Watching it over and over, through the years. Never gets old, stays ever moving. I think due to the subject matter that hits right through to the center of humanness. As we progress through history, this one queston remains unchanging -- who are we, what are we doing here. This film, score, amalgam of so many sci-fi plots, is one of the best attempts to address it.
This music and film became sort of a secret ritual, those I keep closely to myself. I keep on coming back to it and it never wears me out, always bringing tears to my eyes. I love the film, have seen it many times but must confess that without the music it would probably never have become one of my favourites, it has so much, emotions, pain, dreams, memories and everything you can picture to yourself. In other words, I just love the score. Ok, and Jude Law as Eugene as well, this languid look of his)))
Although I love other quotes such as "I lent you my body, you lent me your dream", I think this one is the most powerful because without the complicity of this doctor, who knew everything from the beginning, finally nothing would have been possible !
This movie was shown to me in high school in biology class back in 2005. Since then, it has become my favorite movie of all time. What a film! And the soundtrack 👌
I was 29 when this came out maybe saw it age 30 yes it was a revelation, none of my friends saw it, but it was an inspirational film. Glad to see other people love it.
I watch this movie every few years and are still amazed at how MORE relevant it is getting. I remember watching this in biology class basically thinking how far-fetched it seemed. Watching now, it's incredible how true this world may mirror the real world. Jude Law is really incredible in this, although everyone else is strong too. It really is a movie you don't forget watching.
This movie grossed $12.3 million and has an 87% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The week this was released it was up against some bigger movies like Boogie Nights and The Devil’s Advocate. Gattaca is one of my all-time favorite movies and quite frankly I think it was just way ahead of its time. Andrew Niccol penned/directed a masterpiece.
I'm the youngest child and have always been the dumbest, dropped out multiple times, and almost went to prison. I remember having a lot of excitement for this film although nobody I knew close to me was, so I watched it in the theater alone. I was moved so much I went to see it again the next week. I deserved a lot more credit than it initially did but I'm glad to see that it's standing the test of time.
Watched this in bio 101 back in 1999, absolutely adore this film, criminally underrated. This, together with Back to the Future part 1, are my all time favorite films, will never get tired of watching this.
Anyone who has seen the film Gattaca knows the great motivation that drove the main character to fight against social conventions in order to achieve his goal. I saw this film when I was 22 years old and it motivated me to study psychology to get out of a situation of harassment in the army. Today, at the age of 35, I still listen to his BSO, now it still motivates me, this time to study computer engineering, in other circumstances, also difficult.
I watched this movie during a French lesson (I mean a French lesson in France so an English lesson for you) and however it's a quite an old movie I've never been so touched by a movie.

This film, score, amalgam of so many sci-fi plots, is one of the best attempts to address it.
One of the all time great movie scores. There’s still nothing like it.
My all time favorite movie with my all time favorite score and composer!!
Ok, and Jude Law as Eugene as well, this languid look of his)))
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!🌿🌷🌹🍃
You're going to miss your flight Vincent.
Yes💚
For future reference, right-handed men don't hold it with their left. Just one of those things.
Although I love other quotes such as "I lent you my body, you lent me your dream", I think this one is the most powerful because without the complicity of this doctor, who knew everything from the beginning, finally nothing would have been possible !
I tear up during this scene
He did it... just in time! ;-)
This movie was shown to me in high school in biology class back in 2005. Since then, it has become my favorite movie of all time.
What a film! And the soundtrack 👌
So much depth this movie has that a lot of modern movies seem to lack.
This movie has in bucket loads.
So underrated film!!! One of my favorites. I watched it when I was 26 :D
20 years... time is running fast...
I feel old...even though i wasn't even born when this came out but still
Word.
Now I feel old because I was alive when this came out...
lol same..
I saw this when my granddaughter was 1. I saw it again a few weeks ago. My granddaughter is now 23. Time does indeed run fast...
One of the most moving soundtracks that I have heard in a very very long time
Sound wise this is my FAVOURITE movie sound track , it fits it perfectly ! This movie taught me about pushing boundaries and following dreams .
Just watched it again.Truy unique work of art.
A few times in life, music, film, and meaning touch your soul down to your DNA.
Top two (2) favorite movies. Theme & music are both amazing. I love it!
What's your other one?
This movie grossed $12.3 million and has an 87% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The week this was released it was up against some bigger movies like Boogie Nights and The Devil’s Advocate. Gattaca is one of my all-time favorite movies and quite frankly I think it was just way ahead of its time. Andrew Niccol penned/directed a masterpiece.
Correct. It is one of my absolute favorite pieces of my 4K collection.
Best movie ever! Ahead of its time
Great movie. I thoght whilst watching it "this sounds like Michael Nyman". Checked the end credits and it was him. has a distinct sound of his own.
A tune, a melody, a song, a soundtrack can take you place's without even leaving your chair.
Both soundtrack and movie is a masterpiece. Thank you for uploading this
isn't this the best thing ever
One of my favorite movies, also because of this most beautiful soundtrack.
This movie is a masterpiece. And the score is haunting and beautiful.
Just beautiful!
I'm the youngest child and have always been the dumbest, dropped out multiple times, and almost went to prison. Today I'm 28 and next year I'm finishing my degree in Mechanical engineering and have made a fortune in crypto investing. All of the grit, pain, and hours of hard work were thanks to this movie.
Tränen ,zu Paul nyman ,Habib Buz ist Tod er fragte mich ob ich ihn liebe zweimal dreimal .
Und er starb für immer auch noch auf zu mysteriöse Weise ....
In einem Wort 💓"Danke" für alles.
Dein Florian Schramm
I remember having a lot of excitement for this film although nobody I knew close to me was, so I watched it in the theater alone. I was moved so much I went to see it again the next week. I deserved a lot more credit than it initially did but I'm glad to see that it's standing the test of time.
good music, brings back memories. Thank you!
4:56 "The One Moment" is the alarm ring on my cellphone. That's the only song that does not wake me up in a shitty mood!
Watched this in bio 101 back in 1999, absolutely adore this film, criminally underrated. This, together with Back to the Future part 1, are my all time favorite films, will never get tired of watching this.
Watch this Film NOW it will awaken something in you, what's ahead of us sadly we are going this way if we don't STOP it!
I agree. This scamdemic is destroying the foundations of what it means to be human. Eugenics program accererated.
one of my favorite films. the soundtrack is beautiful.
I have never seen the movie, but this music is so rich and compelling.
Grateful I bumped into this.
Have you seen it yet?
Anyone who has seen the film Gattaca knows the great motivation that drove the main character to fight against social conventions in order to achieve his goal. I saw this film when I was 22 years old and it motivated me to study psychology to get out of a situation of harassment in the army. Today, at the age of 35, I still listen to his BSO, now it still motivates me, this time to study computer engineering, in other circumstances, also difficult.
I love this movie, but it always makes me feel sad.
This track is more emotional than I remember it to be.
Ho il CD e quando sono in auto lo ascolto molto spesso.........mi rilassa e mi fa riflettere................
I watched this movie during a French lesson (I mean a French lesson in France so an English lesson for you) and however it's a quite an old movie I've never been so touched by a movie.
If they decided to play this soundtrack live again, I'd be there in a heartbeat!! Ideally with the movie in the background, amazing!! ❤
Why would they slam this with commercials 🤦♂️ ughhhhj UA-cam!!!!!
Im in love with this theme! so romantic!
My friend, did you remember this piece, a riddle, the movie? You were very happy after watching / listening this. I remember very clearly because I was also happy. Happy moments cannot forgotten, but sad moments. You were my friend. Your books, my books, books.
Great movie. Really gets me fired up.
I remember watching this for my biology class
lol I watched this in biology yesterday
@@spartan045 I finished watching this in biology class yesterday, when your comment was 1 week old. So... 1 week after a yesterday in the past i watched it yesterday, oh, and i just realized that by yesterday i meant today, so... i give up, not editing that, figure it out for yourself :)
I did too, in my first year of high school. It hasn't been that long since, but it's one of the few things I remember from that year...
My bio class just finished watching today too
