Excellent choice of tunes, these bring back memories, I make my own tunes as a hobby and always try to incorporate the "SID" in my music, well, my later tracks at least. Brilliant machine, great times.
Admittedly, these aren't the best SID choons I've ever heard, but the zax in this vid is stuff I've never listened to. Two thumbs up for making this video!!! :-)
Love the music. Brings me back to when for some odd reason I had to run my disks a few times to get them to work... almost like they needed to be heated by the floppy drive =) Games I remember: Ultima 2, 3 and Aliens and some alien corridor runner game =) thanks again
Hell, YESSSS! Even though I was born in '80, hearing this stuff now makes my blood boil - and makes me want to play a round of Commando Libya again. :) Oh, the memories. :)
Ghouls'n ghosts is in Kirby's Adventures on Nesticle. This tune (with slight changes) plays when you for the first time enter a forest level. GOOD OLD TIMES FOREVER! I so remember this when I played Kirby on Nesticle. :')
It for sure is. Not only did it have a 3 voice fully programmable synthesizer, it also had the ability to play back lo fi samples. Which made it even cooler
@djonescph - It's from the title screen of Rebel. The crack group Abyss also used it in their intro to Super Mario Bros (a modified version of Great Giana Sisters.)
I think most of the music on old consoles (like the Commodore 64, NES, SNES, Genesis ect) are better then some of the background music in today's games. It adds so much more character to a game in my opinion.
@Cablo102 Yes the laughing witches, in the castle... it was Super Cauldron (II?) or something like that. With the candles, sharp points, tables, brooms... I remember that one
My C64 developed a problem after one too many homemade flashcards had been plugged into the expansion slot and one too many resets had been done on the reset switch I'd mounted myself. I had an early version where the soundchip had legs covered in gold. Apparently they replaced the motherboard to fix it so the innards was completely different when I got it back. It worked, but I felt so ripped off. The C64 sound was awesome, but I was convinced it was never the same after that switcharoo!
There's something emotional about the sounds of the SID chip. I don't know. Maybe it's just because I grew up with a C64 and have so many good memories of it. It gives me chills every time. I also recall how scary some of The Last Ninja music was...
@thelasthallow That's a standard 5-pin DIM cable, I believe. Radio shack should have them. I think they are also used as MIDI cables. I could be wrong.
My first Commodore 64 had a bad SID chip, shown at 3:45 in the vid. I had to buy a replacement "6581" when I finally figured it out after programming a few games and not being able to get any sound from the computer. I still have a game called "Rabbit Hunter" on 5 1/4" floppy I programmed which had zero sound (due to my SID chip not working when I programmed the game), lol! Commodore 64's ROCK!
gthe days when you knew if Rob Hubbard was involved the sound would be great... have a lot fo great memories of my first c64.... later bought the updated version and am external 5.25 floppy drive for it :)
My favourites are probably the zax from the Pieces of Light demo and the choon Falcon Dump by Reyn Ouwehand (used in the trainer for the game Wasteland). :-)
i never owned an commodore 64 when i was little, but now i have 4 xD. i have played a little but the reason i bought them is for the awesome music from the games :).
I listened to some Camerica games (Dizzy the Adventurer, Firehawk, Micro Machines, Mig 29 - Soviet Fighter, Quattro Arcade - CJ Elephant Antics, Stunt Kids, & Ultimate Stuntman) and some of the tunes do bear a resemblance to the 64. I'm thinking the developers of those games had a fondness for the 64 and tried to recreate the same sound (arpeggio notes) on the NES.
@JanitorMaster I did, and recently had some nostalgic throw back memories so had a hunt around. Found Linux MultiMedia Studio (LMMS) which is an Open Source sequencer and synth thingy (which also works on PC) includes a C64 SID emulator (sound chip) - and before too long i was on there forming my own notes from sa, square and triangle waves and tweaking attack and dealy values and all kinds of shit to make fantatsic synth noises. Oh god Im such a nerd lol.
I liked the theme song to "Commando" as well, not to forget "Fur Elise" which was played on "Elite". Finally there was the "chariots of fire" song; I think it was from Summer Games..... oh so many great memories. Funny that you can still find it interesting today, with the crap graphics and the slow speed; and still turn around and knock the graphics on a 2010 game for not being realistic enough... the rose tinted glasses of yesteryear....
@JanitorMaster BUY ONE! i'm 26 and i'm just missed the awesome time... BUT with my 80368 and my daddy's 80468 DX4 i got his old C64 we played more with this MONSTER as with the DA-DOS 368 :) it changed after i got the 486 DX4 and commander keen i guess 3 or 4 :) .... @6581r2 THX for the lovely flashback! i miss the old times! long life demo.scene!
well, i'd try that if i had a dishwasher... but i'd be a little bothered about water seeping nto the inductors in the RF modulator, and into the electrolytic caps, im not really looking forward to fixing this thing any time soon, but i may just keep it as a future project.. after all, i can make tunes with my ADLIB (go ahead and laugh) at the moment, so its not a priority... my dad used to clean vinyl records in the kitchen sink with warm water, and Palmolive dish soap, then played them damp.
You easily could haha, like the Ghosts and Ghouls song, you could easily do some kinda weird style of rap over that. And DJ's use some of this stuff in their battles to scratch over and stuff. It can happen lol.
Lucky for me i still own a commodore 64 and i even have the original TV thing that it came with. i also have a flopy disk drive and some kind of 56k adapter to. oh and a whole slew of games. but i lost the damn cable that runs from the flopy drive to the C64 so i cant play any of the damn games. im so pissed!!
Hi guys, When I was a kid I played a game on the commadore. I cant remember its name wich pisses me off. I had had exelent music. All i can say is that lvl 1 was a piramid lvl and I think you had to jump on things to progress. Does anyone have a clue what Im talking about? If you do please reply=) thanks
Did not recognize / like most of the tunes with the following 2 very noticeable exceptions: 4:59 - its amazing though I don't know what game it came from... I REALLY like the 80's electro style of it though 7:21 - Target Renegade; Unbeatable. To this day the quality of that composition gets me.
No suggestions for music, but you might care to list the names of the tunes or the game/demo it comes from at least; either in your description of the video, or as part of the video itself.
Thanks for commenting. It's nice to come across people who still appreciate this type of music.
Here's the track list from the description, with time offsets added.

Fantastico, specialmente la prima canzone di Turrican........1990, che ricordi!
Gives me the chills everytime i listen to these tunes.. :)
Love the music.

man, the music to Commando just brings me right back. now i need to find the music for Druid 2 again, too.
Hell, YESSSS!
Even though I was born in '80, hearing this stuff now makes my blood boil - and makes me want to play a round of Commando Libya again. :)
Oh, the memories. :)
Beautiful shot of the SI:D!
great times! it is already about 20 years ago i used the C64 to make some little routines. but for today i use it too.
Ghouls'n ghosts is in Kirby's Adventures on Nesticle. This tune (with slight changes) plays when you for the first time enter a forest level.

AWESOME STUFF!
sound absurd, really, truly had a heart the Commodore 64.
I still have the instruction manual and power adapter for my old C64. Awesome video.
(2nd song).................I can't believe how good ghouls n ghosts sounds....hardly beeps and bleeps.....damn awsome!!!!
this is c64 game music, and it's magic, it always has and always will be no matter how many times you hear it :P
Amazing soundchip, great music... Nothing more to say, really.
What memories are associated with this ;)))
My C64 developed a problem after one too many homemade flashcards had been plugged into the expansion slot and one too many resets had been done on the reset switch I'd mounted myself. The song is 'Omen' by Brandis. Thanks for watching my tribute!
There's something emotional about the sounds of the SID chip. I don't know. Maybe it's just because I grew up with a C64 and have so many good memories of it.
It gives me chills every time.

Great tunes from the greatest game home pc machine of its time
Good old times Greethings from austria
@thelasthallow That's a standard 5-pin DIM cable, I believe. Radio shack should have them. I think they are also used as MIDI cables. I could be wrong.
Great mix, dude!
Amazing what this sid chip could do, wish i could have owned one of these wondrous machines, im 16 and haven't even seen one before.
The C64 was one helluva machine.. That SID chip was great
My first Commodore 64 had a bad SID chip, shown at 3:45 in the vid. Thanks to all who rated my video. If you have any recommendations for the next one, let me know.
OOHHH!! DAT SOUNDCHIP! If only the NES had a MOS Technology SID.
The Rambo loader by Ocean was my all time fav. Lazy Jones was also awesome.
@1D0N I grew up with the nes 8 bit days instead and yet the SID chip still gives me chills.
I salute you SID! C64 is awesome, and probably better than the NES (capability-wise at least) when it comes to games.
There was a game called Desert Falcon on the 2600 like that but not sure if it was released for C64
My favorite on the C64, was the 16 second sequence of Paul Hardcastle's "19".
AAAA++++
The vintage synth chips are the best. Feed them into later reverb and feedback today....
End of story.
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing!
I'm working on the next tribute - recommendations are welcome.
Mine has been long gone; thank heavens for emulators.
My favourites are probably the zax from the Pieces of Light demo and the choon Falcon Dump by Reyn Ouwehand (used in the trainer for the game Wasteland). :-)
Thanks for the comment. Music is subjective - what are your favorites?
i think is cause of 80's music thet i s THE REAL DANCE-ELECTRo music of all times. All the music of 80's is wonderful.
PURE AWESOMENESSSSS !
"DLC", DRM, internet video games stuff...
I miss this (C64) days
i never owned an commodore 64 when i was little, but now i have 4 xD. i have played a little but the reason i bought them is for the awesome music from the games :).

Thanks for the comment. I'm not sure which game you're referring to. I wish I could help you out.
Ohh beauty times.....
Like this?
really need to check out all the songs of machinae supremacy!!! most of theyre songs are mad with commodore 64.
I really love it!
Watched a youtube video of someone opening up a brand new C64 from the original packaging in the 2000s!
@JanitorMaster I did, and recently had some nostalgic throw back memories so had a hunt around.

@JanitorMaster Great to hear! Thanks for commenting.
Love this bid. The c64 can play sweet music.
These tunes are where melodic metal comes from...

The music is from Commando by Rob Hubbard.

@R33Racer Click on the double down arrows to the right of the video description
Well selected
well, i'd try that if i had a dishwasher...
but i'd be a little bothered about water seeping nto the inductors in the RF modulator, and into the electrolytic caps,
im not really looking forward to fixing this thing any time soon, but i may just keep it as a future project.. after all, i can make tunes with my ADLIB (go ahead and laugh) at the moment, so its not a priority...

@FurryFox97 'Omen' by Peter Hölsken (Brandis)
Thanks!
2:01 i could remember that tune anywhere, litrelly, if i was strander and a car on a car ferry had it on the stereo i would yell COMMANDO!!!
hehe i will put some of that music to my car, put the volume up, open the windows and drive through the city :D
You easily could haha, like the Ghosts and Ghouls song, you could easily do some kinda weird style of rap over that. And DJ's use some of this stuff in their battles to scratch over and stuff.
It can happen lol.
Grazie :)
fantastic
@KubaPSP ok i have never tried a atari but just typed that because atari and commodore were rivals back then :P
i've ripped the audio and made me some ringtones ^^
commando theme ftw ! ^^
Still have 12 x C64, 4 x C128, 1 x SX64, 6 or 7 1541 drives, tons of software, some cartridges, ... :) And soon a 1541u cartridge (thanks gideon!)
My C64 died long ago but. I took the chips form it, made one into a keychain and the others are just laying on the shelf.

@JanitorMaster Thanks...I waited until the sun was setting to take the pic.
@BoomRoomFive Thanks!

Now check out the Neo Geo game console sound chip made by Yamaha!
Incredible how tiny slices of silicon can sing :)

I love SID!! :))
@JanitorMaster I'm 17 and I just got a C64 breadbox for $15, just waiting on a cable so I can actually hook it up to my tv, can't wait =D

I got into rage when i heard G'n'G theme music....that game was FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE!
