dear Dr Bikman, you keep on repeating you’re not a doctor, not a personal trainer, not a nutritionist: thank God! Most of these people don’t know anything about metabolic health. So cheers to the professor who can open up a lot of eyes! So excited about this book, after devouring the other one!
There is value in understanding. I reversed type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, kidney stones, peripheral neuropathy, chronic inflammation, and pain... Basically, by following your principles. I actually went carnivor and used intermittent fasting. I've done it for 3 years now and feel great!! Oh. I also lost 90 pounds too!
I was on 7 meds for 20+ years of my life. January 2022, I went Keto, OMAD and walked 8 miles every other day. October 2022, I lost 50 lbs, got off the 7 medications, guided by the same doctor who put me on them, and had the best blood test results ever. My doctor said, “You now have a 5% chance of continued success.” He also said, “I’ve given up trying to convince patients to change their diet. It’s a waste of time…OH and by the way your LDL cholesterol is within range but if it gets too high, I will need to put you on a statin.” I realized I’ve had a highly educated prescription drug dealer.” I fired my doctor.
Yes, and the 5% he quotes is from an old small study of obese people put on a low-fat reduced calorie diet (that isn’t randomizable to the general population). Doctors are strongly biased against “lifestyle” changes to the point that they can’t be bothered. Of course the Dietary Guidelines, and the all the mainstream advice haven’t been too helpful. At least that’s my experience as a retired dietitian. I will be recommending Dr. Bickman’s books and channel to everyone I know.
That's the saddest. I've met doctors who bitterly say "But patients are stupid," when you ask them about lifestyle prescriptions. No, the patients are not stupid; you just don't know how behavioral change psychology works, doc! Just giving a 5 min lecture on drugs and "don'ts" is usually not enough. People have to have their own reasons. Health coaching is really useful for this. I'm really glad for your success, William! My dad's been on so many meds for 20 years too, and recently got prescribed injectable insulin and Ozempic... I wish I could support him, but he needs to decide if he wants to change his lifestyle. What made you shift? How did you push through your old habits?
When you said "I have to believe that there is value in understanding the process" -- THAT is the exact reason I follow you and listen to many of your seminars and talks. I am hungry to learn and understand what is happening and why. You, Dr.Bikman, are a rare gem in your ability to make complex human physiology understandable. I am truly grateful.
My type 2 diabetes is completly gone because of you. In hindsight I can understand how and why i dogded a bullet at my doctor's office when diagnosed with this illness, because you put your ressearch out on youtube, and I listened to you instead. I can give a coherent explanation to other type 2 diabetics whenever i meet them. So if anything we are grateful to you, because you have saved/are going to save our entire species. Thank you for saving my life. 🙂
Dr. Bikman, I wish I had you as a professor...you have educated more people and saved more lives than you will ever know. So grateful for your work...thank you. Eagerly awaiting your latest book.
Before I even started looking at low-carb and ketogenic diets, and while I was on the brink of Type 2 Diabetes, the questions in my mind (and frequently passing my lips) were, "what is the root cause?" and "what can I do to address it?" No matter how many people I asked, the answers I received were unsatisfactory, until I stopped asking those who treated my symptoms and started looking for answers elsewhere. There are thousands of people out there, telling me how to address it, but the reason I follow you is that you provide such clear and eloquent explanations of the mechanisms and processes: the root causes of metabolic dysfunction. Thank you for being you, and for presenting what you know with such balance, clarity and attention to detail.
This is the thing for me also in this age. I tend to place my trust in arguments that are backed up by explanations. Given I'm highly educated and have far above average reasoning capabilities, with years of working experience in positions with scientific aspects, I might have it easier than many to do this. But still I would encourage everyone to not trust anyone just because of their position. More so if there are competing ideas WITH explanations and reasoning attached. This is why I like Ben Bikman. He tells the WHY not just the WHAT.
From the sound of it, this book will quite literally save lives. You do important work, Dr Bikman, and making it accessible to laypeople is a great gift. Thank you.
A well-trained health coach is not giving a "one solution for all" type of an answer but listens and elicits knowledge from the patient who is the expert of their own life. Look up NBHWC accredited schools if you wanna find legitimate schools, to check the certificate of a health coach.
I have found that understanding what is happening in my body helps me to stick with low carb because I understand the why I do it, not just what to do. I've watched a wide variety of videos on various body processes. I've also watched a BBC documentary of an autopsy on a morbidly obese lady, as well as on various parts of the body. When you see what is inside the body when it's not the way it should be it makes me not want to have that in my body. I remitted my diabetes, got off BP drug and lost more than 25% of my starting weight without trying and now weigh what I did in the mid 1980s before having children. Just by changing what I eat.

Excellent review of what is in the book and how to use it. - As an Insulin sensitive person thanks to lowcarb/keto/lifestyle changes over the last 8 years, I will get the book for my "bookshelf" and past along this video. Love your Insulin IQ videos - keep them coming
Preordered! Thank you for your wonderful manner and dedication. Appreciate you so much. What I learned from folks talking about insulin resistance took me from over 100lbs overweight to slim and pain free… healthier than ever in my life, and at 62 I enjoy so much that poor quality food once robbed me of. Mental health, size 4 clothes, exercise endurance, shapely muscles, excellent blood pressure, blood sugar, insulin, waist circumference and confidence. The relentless hunger has given way to easy 16/8 IF most days. Ben Bickman is a brave hero!
Dr.Bikman, after listening this video I just wanted to express my gratitude for the way you put your passion/mission out in the world and how it keeps motivating me doing my job more efficient and with the same passion. You just are being you in the way you presented this information for us to pick it up and"spread the word". In that coach, nutritionist and med.trainer in a big organisation and I encounter the serious changes in damaged health from people who struggle to get healthier and I do my very best to support them into a healthier situation. Your information makes me more complete and keeps me on my toes and motivated to do my very best in the things that I do because sometimes it's hard. And I do this for a long time. So, thank you very much and keep the info coming please! Warm greetings from the Netherlands!
To me you’re the guy that gave me insight. 68 with a history of symptoms of multiple metabolic dyscrasias. Your discipline clearly explains why I didn’t succumb and why maintaining has brought immense joy into life again. Much gratitude!
I think this book will be very helpful, especially for people who don't have the time to listen to the information online. I've listened/watched hundreds of hours since being diagnosed diabetic in Oct 2021. Successfully remitted by changing to low carb.
Pre-ordered today. I reversed my T2 diabetes by going low carb and keep motivated by understanding my condition. I find your explanations clear and backed up by evidence, unlike the dietary advice we get here in the UK.
The value in understanding my own health has been foremost in my personal journey with t2 diabetes and learning to care for myself. I MUST understand what is happening before I can turn this ship and move a different direction. Im deeply grateful for the knowledge that you have imparted which I can apply to myself. I feel as though I have been given the key to the “medical secrets” that have prevented me understanding my own body. Heartfelt thanks for teaching in a relatable manner, and reaching out to whomever will listen and learn.
dear Dr. Bikman. you are a great professor and it is by no means a weakness that you are not a nutrition and exercise adviser. you are great at your professor job and I am grateful that you teach us via these UA-cam metabolic classroom. I have learned more from you than I would in a regular classroom so please stay who you are: a great professor who has a positive impact on everyone who wants to improve their metabolic health. kind regards, Reimara
You are an awesome person and I enjoyed learning about your new book. Love that you love family and never swear or use God’s name in vain in your wonderful teaching. Thank you and may God bless your book sales and your message for how we can turn up the health in our miraculous bodies. ❤
Reading Why We Get Sick right now. I am very likely to buy this next book too. It has helped tremendously to curb my sugar/carb addiction by knowing about the damage that excessive amounts of sugar and other carbs has already caused to my body and things that it will cause if I don't change my lifestyle.
I sometimes have a difficult time understanding and grasping certain kinds of scientific concepts, processes, etc., but YOU really do explain these types of things so well and in such a simple way that I usually do learn and understand ... thank you so much for what you do and the way you do it!! ❤️
As a now retired college professor with a PhD, I appreciated your opening comments. It is ironic that just yesterday I defended you on another channel: The UA-camr, who touts some sort of doctor title, was carrying on about a short you did in which you described someone else’s study about fat metabolism. He was criticizing you for not describing how the variables impacted weight loss. He apparently could not identify the major dependent variables; although weight loss was measured it was not the major DV of interest. In any case, I made the point that basic research, as opposed to applied, is absolutely essential in our quest to figure out practical matters (as he should know and educate his viewers on that point). Thank you for making the basic mechanisms understandable, and for trying to use them to help us in practical ways. You are indeed an excellent teacher. I hope your book does well.
Thank you so much for your teachings, you changed my life a couple of years ago. You are right , once I began to understand the mechanisms and what really happens in one’s body, I could not go back to my former lifestyle. No one is too old to learn…. I am now 85 years…. Question: do you think there is a chance that your new book will be translated into Dutch?
Your new book wont be released here in Australia on Amazon till late Oct. Looking forward to it. Really enjoying your first book! Everyone should read these books.
Thank you, I am a thin person you have helped me reverse fatty liver a lot by your talks on utube, you have even helped me choose great Christmas presents for my family - your book!
Pre-ordered - 2 of them. One is for my friend who sadly has a problem with weight, addicted so badly to carbs, and has no faith he can beat it. Never tried a low-carb approach, only calorie restriction and exercise...failed a few times. Hopefully, I will be able to catch you for a brief moment during a conference in Poland, and you can perhaps sign them for me :)
I have ordered your book, Ben, it will be coming my way soon. I wish you had been my teacher when I was younger. You have that way of luring the student's latent interest and turning that into a desire to delve a little deeper. Why? How? A big Thank you from New Brunswick.
Nope, IT is STILL Publish or Perish . When I was a college professor, I was always writing and publishing. The average person has no idea the outside stress of that directive. Tenure is much more difficult than it used to be. And for me the publications had to be purposeful, not just a compilation of manuscripts to fill my CV. SO I appreciate your books. I have studied Why We Get Sick and the pages are dog-eared. I will be getting this new book. Thank you, professor Bikman.
Your first book was great, I bought it on kindle, I wanted a hard copy to keep at home, but I just pre-ordered this new one instead. You are so good at explaining things, I just know it's going to be another fantastic reference. Thank you Dr Bikman!
It would be cool to have an associated app to keep track of our progress as we implement the recommendations in the book. And thanks for the demo. I pre=ordered the book because of it.
Ben you are a wonderful person! I already ordered you new book. I have given other people copies of your first book! So amazing! Love you and all of your videos and written info! Mindfully with love and gratitude!
Book ordered!! Yippee. Loved your previous one, hopefully love this one even more. THANK YOU and your co-author for all the hard work and care. I totally agree about understanding. Oh how I wish school education had content teaching us how to care for ourselves so it became just part of the daily living experience. But certainly in the UK the little that is taught is still the good old 'science' about the food pyramid, and avoiding saturated fats and salt etc. So depressing. I actually had to email my daughter's science teacher to point out that her understanding is already based on a different scientific ideal, and she might get answers to tests 'wrong'. Grrrrr. I've spent nearly 20 tears teaching Pilates-based exercise, and I read and study all the time and try to pass on everything I've learnt to my students. The commonest comment I get is "I wish I'd know all this years ago then I wouldn't have got injured". Me too! Please keep doing what you do, because you are WONDERFUL. xxx
I am interest to know why my doctor said to me I have diabetes even though I have no symptoms whatsoever of it! And nobody in my family has it. So it is not from hereditary. My doctor was so happy to write a prescription for it. Also my BP is a little high as well. I am eating low carb and no sugar as well. One meal per day.

Love you Dr Bikman for your passion to help people get metabolically healthy! I read your first book and was inspired to get healthy and make better choices. I feel this is the piece to the puzzle that will definitely help continue to push forward. I really hope to get to meet you I live here in Utah also! 🙏🏽💜😍
Hi Dr Bikman, Your new book will arrive at my door this afternoon! Purchased Why We Get Sick when I first heard you speak a couple years ago. Thank you for the InsulinIQ videos. You are a great teacher and explain things so well.
What is the optimal range of the trig/glucose index. Mine is 4.399999 My trig/hdle ratio is 1.1 My fasting insulin is 3.6 But my fasting glucose is always in the 100-110, its been this way for years, My a1c is 5-4-5-6 So can you give us the ranges for being insulin sensitive with the index score, ive never heard if that. I definitely enjoyed your book.
For independent thinking people, knowing the principles allows adapting the solutions, not only to fit varried applications, but also to choose the most enjoyable and rewarding tradeoffs. Thanks once again for insights that make life better in a world where personal responsibility for health is key to maximizing healthspan.
Thank you for taking your time to teach and help me and others. Look forward to your videos. Lots of people sharing info out there, but coming from a professional and studies is much more helpful.
Love it! Thanks! I read your first book twice in less than a year, looking forward for the second. Problem is, I'm a bit lazy to read it in English and I'll wait for it to be published in my country Bulgaria just like your first book. Or, I'd rather order a hard copy for it's illustrations and the general feel than get the e-book version like I typically do.
I am 59 years old, obese (275 pound on 180 cm high) and have all the signs of advanced Insulin Resistance (bordering Diabetes) - I bought your book today.
Hey! I really hope that a bit on down the road, you will be one of the many commenters who share their success story and encourage othesr! Our strength is in the Lord!
I am also a professor (of Nursing education) and I totally agree with teaching the "why" for everything my nursing students do. Knowing how is important but if you understand the why you will own the information and understand when it is appropriate to apply in each situation. Thank you for taking the time to create this video explanation of the book. Now that I know it has so much why in addition to the how, I am very excited to get it and use it!
Sold! I will say, I am insulin sensitive, but I do know that I don't handle carbohydrates well. I doubt the "Maintenance" phase would work for me; I'll be focused on the "Prevention" phase, best case scenario. Still, looking forward to 'digesting' the fruits of your labor!
Dr. B. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with the masses. Thank you also for having above your left shoulder a document on the family. Not only are you literally saving lives but you are an incredible example to emulate. Blessings to you and your family.

I preordered mine today. I have your other book. I requested some blood work, I still insulin resistant, the results came at 13.3. I know in your book you said to feel comfortable it needs to be at least 9.3. looking forward to keep improving my health.

Preordered and awaiting delivery in 22 days here in Germany. Thank you Dr. Bikman for guiding me out of type 2 diabetes.
Schreib mir wenn du durch bist, ich Kaufs dir danach ab 😂
You are an awesome person and I enjoyed learning about your new book. Love that you love family and never swear or use God’s name in vain in your wonderful teaching. Thank you and may God bless your book sales and your message for how we can turn up the health in our miraculous bodies. ❤
Reading Why We Get Sick right now. I am very likely to buy this next book too. It has helped tremendously to curb my sugar/carb addiction by knowing about the damage that excessive amounts of sugar and other carbs has already caused to my body and things that it will cause if I don't change my lifestyle.
I just ordered your book. I am a biology teacher. I love your teaching style. Thanks for all you do!
Please have a research on prolonged water fast and insulin resistance. 7 days to 40 days
I sometimes have a difficult time understanding and grasping certain kinds of scientific concepts, processes, etc., but YOU really do explain these types of things so well and in such a simple way that I usually do learn and understand ... thank you so much for what you do and the way you do it!! ❤️
Illustrations help us to learn faster.
Congratulations Dr. Bikman on your new book! Can’t wait to read it!
Looking forward to getting my copy and while waiting I have ordered Why we get sick.
Dr. Bikman is correct. 'Why' is always the most important question.
Preach Ben!
Wishing your book much success and widespread notoriety
Will buy it and share it around my family xx
Pre-ordered mine today. Thank you for being there for all of us. You are greatly Appreciated.
This book is just what society needs. Thank you Professor!
Are you in the US? Did you have a blood test called A1c? It was likely diagnosed from that. If you’re unsure, ask your dr for your lab test results. Read Dr Bikman’s books.
Yay! I just ordered it. I LOVED your first book and think I’ll quickly read it again to refresh myself before the new one arrives. ❤️❤️❤️
Just preordered your new book. Thanks so much for all your knowledge and work.
Love you Dr Bikman for your passion to help people get metabolically healthy! I read your first book and was inspired to get healthy and make better choices. I feel this is the piece to the puzzle that will definitely help continue to push forward. I really hope to get to meet you I live here in Utah also! 🙏🏽💜😍
Looking forward to receiving your new book. Thank you so much for being a teacher who can explain in plain English.
Hi Dr Bikman, Your new book will arrive at my door this afternoon! Purchased Why We Get Sick when I first heard you speak a couple years ago. Thank you for the InsulinIQ videos. You are a great teacher and explain things so well.
I'm looking forward to the new book. I pre-ordered it in February. I've listed to your first book multiple times. Please offer the new one on Audible.
What is the optimal range of the trig/glucose index. Mine is 4.399999
My trig/hdle ratio is 1.1
My fasting insulin is 3.6
But my fasting glucose is always in the 100-110, its been this way for years,
My a1c is 5-4-5-6
So can you give us the ranges for being insulin sensitive with the index score, ive never heard if that.
Can’t wait to get the book delivered to my home, in Padova 🇮🇹😍
I am 59 years old, obese (275 pound on 180 cm high) and have all the signs of advanced Insulin Resistance (bordering Diabetes) - I bought your book today.
Hey! I really hope that a bit on down the road, you will be one of the many commenters who share their success story and encourage othesr! Our strength is in the Lord!
Love your book Why we get sick! I will definitely be getting this new one!! I need guidance soo bad. Thank you!
Wonderful book! I have followed you for several years, and have become MUCH healthier! HUGE thanks!
Let me personally THANK YOU for helping steering me through the gauntlet of nutrition and the science behind it 😊👍✌️
I've been looking forward to the release of your new book. Summer is the perfect time.
I just come for the astute articulate affable alliterations.
Thanks professor! Just ordered your book.

Looking forward to reading your new book! I’ve shared your first book with numerous friends this past year.
I preordered mine today. I have your other book. I requested some blood work, I still insulin resistant, the results came at 13.3. I know in your book you said to feel comfortable it needs to be at least 9.3. looking forward to keep improving my health.

You’re kind. Thank you. Not at all expected but certainly appreciated.
I have ordered the book and look forward to reading it.
Congratulations Dr Bikram. I can’t wait to get a hold of a copy. I love your passion and love of your job and your family, and more importantly great desire to help out to your students and society in general. We need more health promoters like you in our societies as the lack of understanding the value of food and exercise is so prevalent. Thank you (and your family for allowing you) for the great work you are doing.
Brother Ben, we appreciate you beyond description. God bless you and all that you do.
