I originally bought Subnautica because I have submechanophobia and was curious if I could treat it. I used to play submarine ambiance to stop being afraid of them but it never helped. I went in completely blind and oh boy, what a journey. Not done with my playthrough yet but I dooooon't think my phobia has really gotten better, but I do admit my base in the Safe Shallows feels quite comfy.
Ironically, I bought the game because I’m joining the navy, but I have a fear of looking down into the depths of the ocean (perhaps an underlying theme of a fear of the unknown?). Anyways, I can confirm that so far, this game has not sedated my fears in the slightest lol...
@@Just_som_Ottur That's called Bathophobia (Bathios means "depth or deep" in grec and phobos means "fear or dread"), but there's also Thalassophobia which is the fear of the sea in general (Thalassa means "sea" and again phobos means "fear") like waves, deep bodies, big emptiness, being far from land, etc.

every bit of exposure to feared stimuli is a repetition in the memory bank of that stimuli not requiring panic, i bet you'd be surprised just how much better you'd handle real life stress involving water. at the very least you are on the right track to handling other fears and difficulties in life. if you cant do the thing right now, find a way to simulate it and expose yourself to it gradually, removing training aids until you can continue the incremental process in the actual presence of the feared stimuli and add on practicing the various skills you may need in those ever-more realistic training sessions.
15:42 You know, I can almost faintly here a Reaper roaring in the distance. I don't know if it's my mind playing tricks on me or if their calls can travel that far. Maybe one spawned closer than they're supposed to be? It's very hard to hear, but you can kind of hear the high-pitched ending of the roar at the time stamp above.
@@Oaksparrow I hear the Stalker, but I think I faintly hear a reaper RIGHT at the end of the Stalker noise. I don't hear its full roar, just the end of it when its voice goes several notes higher. I even kind of hear the echo at 14:54. If you listen for a very slight, barely-noticeable shriek, it'll be easier to hear. I also hear it somewhat distinctly at 15:05. It took me raising the volume all the way up and using 200 Audio Technica headphones, but I'm hearing something other than the regular fish in the shallows. Maybe I'm hearing a thermal vent.
I've decided to stick with these Subnautica videos for a while longer, and upcoming videos include Lost River, Degasi Island, Aurora (yes, even though I said I wouldn't), Grassy Plateau, Koosh Zone and more.
My channel isn't monetized yet, but when it is, I'll have to go through all the videos and remove the mid-roll ads that will automatically be added. Definetly don't want those.

I too have very bad submechaphobia and I'm still till this day petrified of the aurora, its a real strange phobia ain't it?
