What I love about subnautica is that it's pretty unique. The hole idea that you get stranded in an alien ocean planet without any partner or companion, just you, alone in a deep unknown planet in which you can don't know what you're going to encounter. This game feels like a survival horror, especially if you're afraid of the ocean like me. Seriously, the first time I heard the reaper roar I literally paused the game and got almost had a damn heart attack. My heart was beating so fast and hard, I could feel it, then I saw the big big mama at the distance. I almost shit my pants. He killed me. I remember that I was in shock. Never touched the game for a week because I was scared of it. Glad I played it again being more brave. This game is freaking awesome.
Yes, I love the fact that you are completely isolated on a water planet. Below Zero has more characters and voice acting, so the concept is not as good as the first game. Still great to play, but the base game is the better of the two :)
you just described like minecraft or Ark or really any survival game, you alone on a weird world full on monsters and demons and you have to survive and finish the game by defeating insane powerful monsters
I remember in my first playthrough when I was trying to find silver to make a habitat builder I was going as far from the spawn area as possible. When I eventually found it I looked behind me and out of *NOWHERE* a reaper leviathan less than 5 meters away from me was roaring at the top of his lungs! I have never felt more frightened in a game before!
@@chimerical8746 Well yeah. I guess I did. I have played minecraft since I was a little brat and still like it. But if a want to have a survival game experience it would be Subnautica. Minecraft over time gets boring and really easy. Although I'm looking forward to play Ark (never played it) , seems interesting to me.
tip for y'all: if you're exploring this area with your prawn suit but you want your lights off so you don't attract the crabsquids, take out the left battery.
It's not the warpers, the reapers or the ghost leviathans that scare me in this game, it's the crabsquid. They're absolutely terrifying. I can tell myself "its sounds were made from a creaking door and a dolphin click" but everytime i hear a crabsquid sound in game i freeze.
Really, I find them the least intimidating in the whole game, they just look stupid and silly and that’s all I’ve ever seen them as. If it helps, just stasis rifle one and kill it, they aren’t as threatening as you think
@Christian-jc6gf Same here, crabsquid are by far the creature that gives me the most anxiety. I can deal with them, but i have to focus and hunt all of them in the area so they don't catch me off guard.
Reapers scare me the most. I studied their patrol areas, hit boxes and safety distances so much I always avoided them. I know where every single Reaper spawns, its easy to never face them
They're utterly interesting but at the same time annoying. Fascinating to look at, I hatched one once in my main base just to watch it for a while before releasing it. I released it in the Jellyshroom cave, funny enough I saw less crabsnakes where I released it and I see it on occasion when I go down there.
The sounds they make are literally like everywhere all at once. You can hear them, yet it still scares the crap out of you when you turn around and its all up in your face. I just visited the degasi seabase the other day in pure survival for the first time, and i was having a panic attack, both from the crabsquids and the warpers.
I gotta admit, the Deep Grand Reef is the best looking and sounding biome in the game. The glowing pods, the blue tint, the jelly rays make it pop out a lot, and the sound is amazing as well. Since it's in a cave it echoes a lot, and it fits perfectly with the crabsquid sound.
This zone made me realize that an horror game based in a sub-marine base in deep deep water would be terrifying Like imagine a game similar to outlast or Alien but instead of a spaceship, your are blocked in a base at the bottom of the Mariana Trench or an Alien planet.
Duo to sleeping disorders I have auditory hallucinations at night, which can make falling asleep quite the hassle... The only thing in this game that scares me are the reapers and even with a map, compass, and all, I'm still terrified due to my imagination when I hear a foreign sound and immediately picture a reaper, even though I know the biomes they roam in, the sounds they make, and just how not so scary they really are. But I love the crab squids
