    Hi Chris, you can do polar alignment during daytime like this: attach a mobile phone with "Google Skymap" on top of the mount where the polar scope looks up to the north pole. On the mobile phone, you will see the celestial south pole. Align to the south pole. Voila! The compass in the mobile phone may be a little bit off from the metal in the mount, but it is better than nothing.

      Thanks for this great tip!
      I have another trick I go with: On my patio the bricks match the orientation of my house - and the patio is exactly lined up with the north-south axis. So as long as I orientate the legs of the tripod along the stones/bricks of my patio - I'm fine, more or less.
      That works for every place you build up your rig regularly: Polar align and then put marks where the legs of the tripos are. Bäm - there yo are.
      Clear skies!

    Thanks for stopping drinking coffee on the videos. I used to drink a whole cup for each of your videos :)~

      :o) My audience seems to be divided - some think drinking coffee within videos is nothing to worry about or even funny but some tend to be offended by this. So I decided: No more coffee within tutorial videos and maybe someday redo's of earlier videos - but that will take some time. Thanks for sticking around man, highly appreciated! Clear skies!

    Would the two planets just align to visually give us the effect of one brighter star or would they actually be super close to each other?

    • @catchingphotons
      @catchingphotons  3 роки тому

      The two planets were "just" super close - and even if they aligned perfectly in the night sky - the overall brightness would not be too high, because Saturn is not the brightest object in the night sky.
      Clear skies anyway! -Chris

      @@catchingphotons Thanks for clarifying. I was able to see how it unfolded here in the Bay Area. Hope you enjoyed too for the memories. Keep your eyes on the sky!
